The article focuses on a study which examines the applicability of Blue Rayon (BR) technique for detection of waterborne mutagens and characterization of chemicals in Galveston Bay, Texas, following the oil spill. The study conducted the sampling five-seven days after the release on 500,000 gallon of crude oil at eight sites on July 28, 1990. The results show that BR has higher mutagenic response in industrialized areas than distant sites.
