Climate extremes are more frequent and affect the carbon cycle. On 10–20 February, an exceptional winter storm in Texas brought severe ecological and economic effects. However, its impacts on vegetation activities and the carbon cycle are unclear. This study evaluated the early 2021 ice storm effects on spring phenology and the carbon cycle. The results showed that the ice storm led to a significant later vegetation spring phenology and a reduction of 42.32 Tg C in gross primary production (GPP) and a reduction of 34. 47 Tg C net ecosystem production (NEP) in spring. In the 2021 spring, Texas became a carbon source from the carbon sink. More precipitation in late spring and summer precipitation recharged the rootzone soil moisture, which enhanced summer vegetation GPP and NEP and compensated for the effects of the ice storm on spring carbon uptake. The summer GPP enhancement offset all the spring GPP reduction, and thus GPP was increased by 4.97% during 2021. 91.47% of the spring NEP reduction was compensated by summer NEP enhancement due to higher root zone soil moisture. Due to the NEP enhancement during autumn, NEP did not decrease as well and increased by 10.88% during 2021. This observation‐based research highlights the seasonal compensation effects on the interactions between extreme climate events and the biosphere. Plain Language Summary: Winter storms become more common and frequent in warm areas; however, their impacts have seldom been investigated. It is therefore essential to qualify the impacts of winter storms on ecosystems. In 2021 February, Texas was attacked by several heavy ice storms, which caused widespread economic and ecological influences. This study evaluated the 2021 February Texas ice storm effects on phenology and carbon cycle with satellite‐based measurements. Our results indicate a significant delay in spring leaf area index/gross primary production (GPP) phenology due to the ice storm. Both 2021 spring GPP/NEP was reduced and Texas became the carbon source from the carbon sink in the 2021 spring. However, due to the higher precipitation during April‐August recharged the soil water, which enhanced the vegetation growth and carbon uptake, and offset the spring GPP reduction induced by the February ice storm. Spaceborne profiling lidar missions such as the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) are collecting direct elevation measurements, supporting the retrieval of vegetation attributes such as canopy height that are crucial in forest carbon and ecological studies. However, such profiling lidar systems collect observations along predefined ground tracks which limit the spatially complete mapping of forest canopy height. We demonstrate that the fusion of ICESat-2 along-track canopy height estimates and ancillary Landsat and LANDFIRE (Landscape Fire and Resource Management Planning Tools Project) data can enable the generation of spatially complete canopy height data at a regional level in the United States. We developed gradient-boosted regression models relating canopy heights with ancillary data values and used them to predict canopy height in unobserved locations at a 30 m spatial resolution. Model performance varied (R2 = 0.44 − 0.50, MAE = 2.61–2.80 m) when individual (per month) Landsat data and LANDFIRE data were used. Improved performance was observed when combined Landsat and LANDFIRE data were used (R2 = 0.69, MAE = 2.09 m). We produced a gridded canopy height product over our study area in eastern Texas, which agreed moderately (R2 = 0.46, MAE = 4.38 m) with independent airborne lidar-derived canopy heights. Further, we conducted a comparative assessment with the Global Forest Canopy Height product, an existing 30 m spatial resolution canopy height product generated using GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) canopy height and multitemporal Landsat data. In general, our product showed better agreement with airborne lidar heights than the global dataset (R2 = 0.19 MAE = 5.83 m). Major differences in canopy height values between the two products are attributed to land cover changes, height metrics used (98th in this study vs 95th percentile), and the inherent differences in lidar sampling and their geolocation uncertainties between ICESat-2 and GEDI. On the whole, our integration of ICESat-2 data with ancillary datasets was effective for spatially complete canopy height mapping. For better modeling performance, we recommend the careful selection of ICESat-2 datasets to remove erroneous data and applying a series of Landsat data to account for phenological changes. The canopy height product provides a valuable spatially detailed and synoptic view of canopy heights over the study area, which would support various forestry and ecological assessments at an enhanced 30 Landsat spatial resolution. Purpose: Tumor cells from approximately 40% of patients with Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma express the type II latency Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) antigens latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1) and LMP2, which represent attractive targets for immunotherapy. Because T cells specific for these antigens are present with low frequency and may be rendered anergic by the tumors that express them, we expanded LMP-cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) from patients with lymphoma using autologous dendritic cells and EBV-transformed B-lymphoblastoid cell lines transduced with an adenoviral vector expressing either LMP2 alone (n = 17) or both LMP2 and ΔLMP1 (n = 33)., Patients and Methods: These genetically modified antigen-presenting cells expanded CTLs that were enriched for specificity against type II latency LMP antigens. When infused into 50 patients with EBV-associated lymphoma, the expanded CTLs did not produce infusional toxicities., Results: Twenty-eight of 29 high-risk or multiple-relapse patients receiving LMP-CTLs as adjuvant therapy remained in remission at a median of 3.1 years after CTL infusion. None subsequently died as a result of lymphoma, but nine succumbed to complications associated with extensive prior chemoradiotherapy, including myocardial infarction and secondary malignancies. Of 21 patients with relapsed or resistant disease at the time of CTL infusion, 13 had clinical responses, including 11 complete responses. T cells specific for LMP as well as nonviral tumor-associated antigens (epitope spreading) could be detected in the peripheral blood within 2 months after CTL infusion, but this evidence for epitope spreading was seen only in patients achieving clinical responses., Conclusion: Autologous T cells directed to the LMP2 or LMP1 and LMP2 antigens can induce durable complete responses without significant toxicity. Their earlier use in the disease course may reduce delayed treatment-related mortality.
