Abstract

The authors reflect on ways to eliminate transmission of syphilis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) from mother to the child. The authors agree with the World Health Organization (WHO) validation of elimination targets achieved by Cuba and Thailand in 2016. An overview of common features that helped Cuba and Thailand to succeed are given. The authors relate the significant effect of government commitment to improve population health for the achievement of universal health coverage.
