Simple Summary: Yaks are important for the economy and livelihood of local herders in the Tibetan Plateau and are their primary source of income. Traditionally, the production performance of ruminants is generally improved by increasing the proportion of concentrate feed in the diet. To the best of our knowledge, the optimal proportion of concentrate feed is limited in actual production and research of yak. This study fed three diets with different dietary forage-to-concentrate ratios (50:50, 65:35, and 80:20) to 36 male yaks (Bos grunniens). The changes in the distribution of fecal microorganisms were studied by 16S rRNA gene sequencing and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. We found that the dietary forage-to-concentrate ratio significantly impacted yak fecal microorganisms. As such, these studies help us understand the fecal microbiota of yaks, further provide more complete information on the requirements of yak diets in terms of concentrate-to-forage ratio and improve yak growth performance, and provide a theoretical basis for accurate housing of yaks. (1) Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of different dietary concentrate to roughage ratios on growth performance and fecal microbiota composition of yaks by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. (2) Methods: In the present study, three diets with different dietary forage-to-concentrate ratios (50:50, 65:35, and 80:20) were fed to 36 housed male yaks. (3) Results: The result shows that Final BW, TWG, and ADG were higher in the C65 group than in the C50 and C80 groups, but the difference was not significant (p > 0.05). DMI in the C65 group was significantly higher than in the other two groups (p < 0.05). The DMI/ADG of the C65 group was lower than that of the other two groups, but the difference was insignificant (p > 0.05). At the phylum level, Firmicutes were the most abundant in the C65 group, and the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes was lower in the C65 group than in the other two groups. At the genus level, the relative abundances of Ruminococcaceae_UCG_005, Romboutsia, and Christensenellaceae_R-7 were higher in the C56 group than in the C50 and C80 groups. The relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae_NK3A20 and Rikenellaceaewas_RC9_gut is lower in the C65 group, but the difference was insignificant (p > 0.05). At KEGG level 2, the relative abundance of lipid metabolism and energy metabolism were lowest in the C50 group, and both showed higher relative abundance in the C65 group. (4) Conclusions: In conclusion, the structure of fecal microbiota was affected by different concentrate-to-forage ratios. The hydroclimate of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) and Central Asia (CA) plays a crucial role in sustaining surface water reservoirs and thus water resources in the respective regions. In this study, we investigate the changes in Asian hydroclimate and its driving forces during specific time intervals in the last 3 Ma. We conduct high‐resolution (∼0.75° per grid cell) general circulation model ECHAM‐5 experiments with boundary conditions for the mid‐Pliocene (∼3 Ma), the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM; ∼21 ka), the mid‐Holocene (∼6 ka), and the pre‐industrial. Results suggest that seasonally relatively high precipitation rates (>1 mm day−1) were longer in the mid‐Pliocene and shorter in the LGM, relative to the pre‐industrial. We calculate different monsoon indices to detect changes in the intensity, strength and duration of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM), South Asian summer monsoon (SASM), and the Indian summer monsoon (ISM), and construct climatologies of mid‐latitude high‐level westerly jet (WJ) stream occurrences based on the ECHAM5 wind fields. Our results suggest that in warm periods (e.g., mid‐Pliocene or interglacial), the WJ migrates northward earlier in the year (April) and reaches higher latitudes than in the pre‐industrial, resulting in a wetter TP and CA. During cooler periods (e.g., LGM or glacial), the WJ migrates northward later in the year (June) and remains over lower latitudes, resulting in a drier TP and CA. Increased/decreased local precipitation in TP and CA for the mid‐Pliocene/LGM experiments correlates strongly with (a) intensity, strength and duration of the EASM, SASM, and the ISM and (b) WJ latitudinal position. The Qaidam Basin (QB) in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau held a megalake system during the Pliocene. Today, the lower elevations in the basin are hyperarid. To understand to what extent the climate plays a role in the maintenance of the megalake system during the Pliocene, we applied the Weather Research and Forecasting model for dynamical downscaling of ECHAM5 global climate simulations for the present day and the mid‐Pliocene. When imposing the mid‐Pliocene climate on the QB with its modern land surface settings, the annual water balance (ΔS), that is, the change in terrestrial water storage within the QB, increases. This positive imbalance of ΔS induced solely by the changes in the large‐scale climate state would lead to a readjustment of lake extent, until a new equilibrium state is reached, where loss due to evaporation over lake areas compensates for the input by runoff and precipitation. Atmospheric water transport (AWT) analysis at each border of the QB reveals that this imbalance of ΔS is caused by stronger moisture influx across the western border in winter, spring, and autumn and weaker moisture out‐flux across the eastern border in summer. These changes in AWT are associated with the strengthening of the midlatitude westerlies in all seasons, except for summer, and the intensification of the East Asian Summer Monsoon. Given that the mid‐Pliocene climate is an analog to the projected warm climate of the near future, our study contributes to a better understanding of climate change impacts in central Asia. Presently, the prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is regarded as an emerging environmental issue, and many studies have illuminated biogeographical patterns of the antibiotic resistome. However, few studies have investigated elevational biogeography and associated assembly mechanisms of ARGs in natural river systems. Accordingly, in the present study, we used metagenomics approaches to analyze the biogeographical pattern of ARGs along the pristine Yarlung Tsangpo River on the Tibetan Plateau. Our study retrieved the baseline profiles of ARGs in the pristine river and showed that the ARGs were dominated by bac A, which was resistant to bacitracin and represented more than 91% of total ARGs. The diversity and abundance of ARGs in the pristine river were lower than those in the human-impacted area, suggesting that the antibiotic resistome evolved and was promoted in a human-impacted environment. Furthermore, an elevational distance-decay relationship of ARGs was observed along the pristine Yarlung Tsangpo River, which provided strong evidence of ARG dissimilarity under the elevational variation. Elevational gradients could lead to changes in environmental variables and spatial factors, and consequently alter ARG composition. Elevational gradients could influence the assembly processes of ARGs. The deterministic and stochastic assembly processes both played critical roles and equally participated in shaping ARG composition at the watershed scale along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, and with increasing elevational variation along the river, the ecological processes of ARG assembly shifted from deterministic to stochastic. Moreover, abundant and rare ARGs were tentatively separated to investigate the difference and similarity in their distributions. Although abundant and rare ARGs presented similar distance-decay relationships, rare ARGs were more diverse and vulnerable to the dispersal process and mutation. Overall, our study provides valuable ecological insights to profile the large-scale elevational patterns of ARGs in a pristine river system, thereby providing important information for public health and environmental management. The Mid-Pleistocene transition (MPT) was characterized not only by the transition of ice volume periodicities from 40 kyr to 100 kyr, but also by major changes in high latitude ice sheets, global sea level and CO 2 / ocean carbon storage after ∼900 ka, which had a major influence on the evolution of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM). However, there are different views regarding the trend of East Asian summer monsoon precipitation during the MPT and its driving mechanism. Together with published paleomagnetic and 26Al/10Be isotopic chronologies, we used pollen analysis of the lacustrine sediments of a drill core to reconstruct the vegetation history of the Northeast Plain of China. The results demonstrate a pattern of vegetation succession from coniferous and broadleaved mixed forest dominated by Pinus to woodland-steppe during the MPT, indicating a change from a semi-humid to a semi-arid climate. Palynological records from the Liaodong Peninsula, North China Plain, and the Tibetan Plateau also indicate a drying climate during the MPT, which was related to the decreasing trend of EASM precipitation. We suggest that falling global sea level caused by the expansion of high-latitude ice sheets, and the resulting the exposure of continental shelves and the increased transport distance of oceanic water vapor to the continental interior, was the main cause of the reduction in EASM precipitation. The weakening of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation and the southward movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in the tropical Pacific may have been additional causes of the decrease in EASM precipitation. • Vegetation history during the MPT in Northeast Plain of China was reconstructed. • A decreasing trend of EASM precipitation was revealed during the MPT. • Both global sea level and AMOC might play important roles in the reduction in EASM precipitation.
