The article deals with the fetwas of the Diyanet that are issued by Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs (PRA) regarding the believer's deeds, creed and faith. In traditional Islamic communities, the fetwa was supposed to explain Allah's will in this world. Fetwa givers, or muftis, to a certain degree were acknowledged as the interpreters of God's will. An examination of the fetwas given during the Ottoman Empire is offered. When the Ministry of Serʿiyye and Evkaf was abolished on March 3, 1924, the PRA was formed to conduct religious affairs.
