Whether proactive personality affects sexual satisfaction has been included in this research as a subject that has not been considered. It is also an important point of view to what extent body image and sensation seeking will have an impact. This research was conducted to determine the relationships between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction and body image and sensation seeking and the mediating effect of body image and sensation seeking on the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction. Data were collected from a convenience sample of 320 participants. Data analysis was done with regression and Pearson correlation coefficient. A proactive personality was positively related to sexual satisfaction, and sensation-seeking was negatively related to body image. As a result of the mediation analysis based on regression to determine the mediating effects concluded that body image and sensation-seeking had a mediating effect on the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction. These results improve our understanding of the underlying mechanism between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction, considering the roles of adults' body perceptions and exciting activities. LAY SUMMARY: Those in managerial positions are expected to have a proactive personality. To have a dynamic structure in the workplace and to be more productive, individuals' sexual satisfaction levels should be at a sufficient level. In this study, it was revealed that individuals with high levels of proactive personality also have high levels of sexual satisfaction. In addition, the level of negative perception of body image, which is negatively related to sexual satisfaction, is also negatively related to proactive personality. In addition, among the factors related to the relationship between proactive personality and sexual satisfaction, sensation-seeking has a positive effect, while negative body image has a negative effect. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to elucidate whether mindfulness was associated with relationship and/or sexual satisfaction among individuals in a regular relationship and to assess potential links with other factors. The research group consisted of 276 adults who were in a relationship regardless of marriage. Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI), New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS) were applied to all individuals. In the study group, 160 (58%) of the individuals were female, 116 (42%) were male, 62.3% were married, 59.8% were self-acquainted with their partner and 67.4% lived together with their partner or with their partner and children. Factors contributing to greater sexual satisfaction were shorter relationship duration and being a male, while those with an arranged marriage and those cohabiting with their partner had lower sexual satisfaction. Older age and, very interestingly, higher levels of mindfulness were associated with lower levels of relationship satisfaction. Finally, sexual and relationship satisfaction were closely associated and were respectively identified as independent factors for CSI and NSSS scores. There is a need for more comprehensive longitudinal studies evaluating relationship satisfaction and sexual satisfaction to assess causal relationships and to identify interventions that could benefit relationships. Background and Aim: This study aimed to determine the relationship between sexual satisfaction levels and the holistic well-being of women with gynecological cancer. Methodology: The sample for the study comprised 272 women with gynecological cancer gathered through the snowball sampling method. Data were collected online using the personal information form, new sexual satisfaction scale, and holistic well-being scale. Normality of data distribution was tested with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In statistical evaluations, mean, standard deviation, numbers, percentile, and Pearson's correlation were used. Results: The study determined that 38.2% of the women were between 42 to 53 years old and that half of the women had treatment for less than 12 months and the other half for over 12 months. The research found a weak positive relationship between the "new sexual satisfaction scale's self-centered sub-dimension" and "holistic well-being scale's spiritual self-care sub-dimension." Furthermore, there was a weak negative relationship between the "new sexual satisfaction scale's spousal/partner sexual activity-centered sub-dimension" and the "holistic well-being scale spiritual deterioration sub-dimension." Conclusions: There was no relationship between the other sub-dimensions of the "new sexual satisfaction scale" and other sub-dimensions of the "holistic well-being scale." BACKGROUND: Upper extremity strength and function are rarely assessed in routine multiple sclerosis (MS) care. This study aimed to evaluate hand muscle strength and functionality in individuals with MS and investigate correlations with upper extremity function, cognitive status, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and balance. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 45 consecutive individuals with MS between the ages of 18 and 65. Upper limb motor strength was evaluated using a hand grip strength dynamometer. Upper limb functional capacity was assessed using the Nine-Hole Peg Test (9HPT) and the Duruoz Hand Index (DHI). Balance, coordination, and falls were measured with the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), Falls Efficacy Scale (FES), and the 30-Second Chair Stand Test (30CST). Cognitive function was evaluated using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment instrument and the Symbol Digit Modalities Test. Level of HRQOL was assessed using the self-reported 54-item MS Quality of Life-54 questionnaire. RESULTS: Out of the 45 participants (80% women, mean age 36.6 ± 8.6 years), higher hand grip dynamometer measures were strongly correlated with better DHI, 9HPT, BBS, FES, and 30CST scores. In the regression analysis, a 1-unit increase in dynamometer measures led to a 0.383 increase in overall HRQOL score. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that increased hand grip strength (HGS) is associated with better hand functionality, balance, and HRQOL in individuals with MS. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of web-based marriage preparation education provided to engaged couples before marriage on their knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, marital adjustment, sexual satisfaction, and sexual self-efficacy. The randomized controlled experimental study took place between September 2021 and November 2022 at a municipal marriage registry office in Ankara. The study enrolled 60 engaged couples embarking on their first marriage (30 couples assigned to the intervention group and 30 to the control group). The intervention group received web-based marriage preparation education, while the control group received standardized follow-up. Data collection involved the use of the "Data Collection Form," the "Sexual and Reproductive Health Knowledge Test for Premarital Couples (SRH)," the "Marital Adjustment Scale (MAS)," the "New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS)," and the "Sexual Self-Efficacy Scale (SSES)." Data analysis employed descriptive statistics (percentage, frequency, mean, and standard deviation), split-plot ANOVA for pre-test and post-test comparisons, two-way ANOVA for intergroup scale score comparisons, and the Pearson correlation test for correlational analysis. The post-test knowledge scores on sexual and reproductive health for the group that received marriage preparation education were found to be significantly higher (p < 0.01). Additionally, the intervention group exhibited significantly higher scores on the MAS, NSSS, and SSES than the non-education group (p < 0.05). The study concludes that pre-marriage education played a crucial role in enhancing couples' understanding of sexual and reproductive health, marital adjustment, sexual satisfaction, and sexual self-efficacy. To determine the effects of depression, anxiety, stress, and partner relationship satisfaction on sexual dysfunction in women in postpartum first year, this cross-sectional study was conducted in a gynecological clinic in Turkey. Data belonging to 403 women in postpartum 12 months were analyzed. Data were collected using a multidimensional questionnaire, such as the Female Sexual Function Index, the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale, and the Relationship Assessment Scale. The association between independent variables and sexual dysfunction was analyzed using the bivariate tests, such as the chi-square and independent sample t-tests and bivariate (binary) logistic regression analysis. Out of 403 women, 266 (66%) scored below the cutoff point (<26.5) for sexual dysfunction. Perineal tears/episiotomy/trauma during vaginal delivery, primiparity, increased depression, and anxiety, and relationship dissatisfaction in the postpartum period increase the risk of developing FSD by 26% (χ2 = 106.699, p < 0.001). In addition, women with higher stress levels were found to be more sensitive to sexual dysfunction symptoms. This study revealed that most women in the postpartum period had postpartum FSD. Midwives should evaluate women regarding their sexual functions during postpartum visits. Health education, counseling, referral services for early diagnosis, and treatment can contribute to maintain and improve women's sexual health in the postpartum period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sexual satisfaction is an important concept in relationships contributing to psychological general well-being. The present study examined dyadic associations between mental health variables, particularly depression, anxiety, and stress, and sexual satisfaction. Using data of 102 heterosexual married couples from Turkey (mean age = 30.06 years), we sought to investigate whether a person's depression, anxiety, and stress were associated with his or her own as well as the partner's sexual satisfaction. Actor-Partner Independence Model (APIM) analysis revealed that husbands' anxiety and stress were associated with their own sexual satisfaction and husbands' depression was associated with both their own and the wives' sexual satisfaction. Wives' depression and stress were associated with their own sexual satisfaction but not with the satisfaction of their husbands. Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and predictive factors of sexual dysfunction and quality of sexual life in women with heart failure. Background: Symptoms of heart failure may cause a decrease in sexual performance, sexual satisfaction and sexual desire. Methods: This cross‐sectional study was conducted between December 2019 and June 22, 2020. The findings were reported according to the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines (n = 356). Results: The majority of the participants had sexual dysfunction (84.8%), mainly a reduction in sexual desire. Participants had a mean SQOL‐F score of 75.49 ± 19.37. More than a quarter of the participants stated that they were afraid of dying during sex (29.2%). There were changes in sexual dysfunction based on the class of medications that participants used regularly. Almost all participants stated that they were never informed by nurses or other healthcare professionals about sex (98%). Menopausal women are seven times more likely to develop sexual dysfunction than non‐menopausal women (OR = 7.0, p <.001). Conclusion: Women with heart failure are more likely to develop sexual dysfunction. Many factors affect sexual dysfunction and sexual quality of life. Therefore, nurses should take sexual dysfunction into account when caring for women with heart failure. They should monitor them for risk factors and side effects, draw up and implement plans to respond to problems. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Sexual dysfunction is quite high in women with heart failure. Nurses should encourage these patients to talk about sexual problems and provide sexual health education and counselling regardless of the level of their sexual problems. The aim of this research was to explore the experiences of a sample of disabled women about problems with romantic relationships/sexual life. For the study, eight disabled women between the ages of 20 and 38 years were contacted. One theme to emerge was "sexuality as taboo" related to the family. It also seemed that these taboos led to women not receiving health information during adolescence. A second theme to emerge was "forbidden before marriage", which means that women with disabilities were prevented from dating and having sexual intercourse before marriage. A third theme to emerge was "disabled people are targets of sexual abuse" related to the overprotection of disabled women by their families. The final theme was "ableism is the biggest obstacle to the romantic/sexual relationships of disabled women". There are three areas of harmony in human life that are related to each other: "work environment", "love-to be loved-sexual area" and "social environment". Incompatibility and dissatisfaction in one area can also affect other areas. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between job satisfaction, life satisfaction, communication, and sexual satisfaction of healthcare employees. The data collected by questionnaires from 394 employees working in university hospitals in Turkey were analysed using SPSS and AMOS programs. The findings show that there is a positive relationship between the job and life satisfaction of employees of healthcare organizations. Additionally, the findings revealed that communication skills and sexual satisfaction have a mediating role between job satisfaction and life satisfaction of employees in healthcare organizations. Life satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and relationships are some of the factors that should be considered by healthcare organizations. Aims: The aim of the study was to explore the effects of perceived stress during the pandemic on marital adjustment, sexual life and intimate partner violence. Design: A cross‐sectional design was employed in this study. Methods: The data were collected with an online survey between October and December 2020 from 901 participants in Turkey. Participants completed the Descriptive Information Form, the Marital Adjustment Scale and the Perceived Stress Scale. Multivariate analysis of variance and moderation analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Results: The pre‐pandemic marital adjustment scores of the participants significantly decreased during the pandemic. The marital adjustment and sexual life of those with high perceived stress levels were found to be negatively affected, and they were exposed to violence during the pandemic. In the moderation analysis, a non‐standardized coefficient of the marital adjustment variable in the model turned out to be significant, and the perceived stress decreased as marital adjustment increased. The marital adjustment was low, and the stress level was high in individuals exposed to violence. Besides, perceived stress was found to be effective in being exposed to intimate partner violence. Conclusion: The stress perceived by individuals during the COVID‐19 pandemic negatively affected their marital adjustment and sexual life. Besides, perceived stress was found to be effective in being exposed to intimate partner violence, and marital adjustment decreased during the pandemic compared to the pre‐pandemic period. Impact During the pandemic period, health care providers should routinely screen the psychosocial health of individuals. Continuous, accessible, free psychosocial support services should be available in order to increase the psychosocial health and marital adjustment of people with high‐stress levels and prevent exposure to violence. To date, the majority of research studying lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) health has been conducted in Westernized, predominantly individualistic countries. Building on minority stress theory and models of LGBTQ health, we explored how sexual orientation and nationality moderated the association between internalized heterosexism and life satisfaction for lesbian and bisexual (LB) women living in two countries (Turkey and Belgium) with contrasting social contexts. The results of two-way MANOVA, in a sample of 339 Turkish and 220 Belgian LB women, revealed main effects but no interaction effects. LB women in Belgium reported less internalized heterosexism and more life satisfaction than LB women in Turkey. The results of moderation analyses indicated no moderation effect, however internalized heterosexism and country emerged as the best predictors of life satisfaction. Findings were interpreted with a focus on how culture-specific aspects contribute to life satisfaction among LB women. Our findings suggest mental health professionals working with LB women need to tailor therapeutic interventions to reflect the social context connected to their patients' nationality, in order to effectively address internalized heterosexism, improve life satisfaction, and promote self- and social advocacy. Cultural values, such as adherence to collectivistic or individualistic norms, should be included as variables in future research examining determinants of LGBTQ health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This descriptive study aimed to determine the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the quality of sexual life. This study was conducted with 242 females and 87 males in Turkey between May and June, 2020. Mean quality of sexual life scores were 59.77±15.29 for females and 54.56±22.42 for males. The frequency of sexual intercourse decreased in both female and male participants compared to the period before the pandemic (p<0.05). Participants had a moderate level of quality of sexual life during the Covid-19 pandemic and had a decrease in the frequency of sexual intercourse compared to the period before the pandemic. Objectives: The study investigated the relationship between fear of COVID-19, quality of sexual life, and sexual satisfaction of women in Turkey. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between November 26, 2020, and January 26, 2021. The sample consisted of 811 women. Data were collected using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale, the Sexual Quality of Life-Female Scale, and the Pre-Pandemic Sexual Satisfaction and During Pandemic Sexual Satisfaction scores. Results: There was a negative correlation between the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and the Sexual Quality of Life-Female Scale and the During Pandemic Sexual Satisfaction scores. The Fear of COVID-19 Scale scores accounted for 86% of the total variance in the Sexual Quality of Life scores and 5% of the total variance in the During Pandemic Sexual Satisfaction Scores. Conclusion: Sexual problems due to the fear of COVID-19 adversely affect women's sexual quality of life. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the sexual satisfaction and mental health indicators in polygamous and monogamous women in Turkey. The study included 108 female participants: 36 monogamous wives and 72 polygamous wives. Materials and Methods: The participants were evaluated with the Symptom Check List (SCL-90-R) and GolombokRust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS). Results: There were significant differences between the groups regarding the total GRISS score and Dissatisfaction, Sensuality, Vaginismus, and Anorgasmia subscale scores. In comparing the SCL-90 scores with ANOVA, the senior wife group had significantly higher scores in the Depression subscales. Monogamic wives had higher satisfaction from their sexual lives and had less frequent psychiatric symptoms than polygamic wives. Conclusion: It is important to raise awareness about the polygamic family structure, draw attention to often neglected issues such as sexual health, and improve the health services provided to this group. Purpose: This study aims to determine how body perception and sexual life are affected in obese individuals who are hospitalized to undergo bariatric surgery. Design and Methods: Descriptive research design and the cross‐sectional method were used. The study was conducted with 53 individuals who consented to participate. The data were analyzed with the SPSS software package. Findings: Low body perception and sexual dysfunction were detected, particularly in women. Practice Implications: In obesity treatment, the psychological and social problems that individuals experience due to obesity should be handled and evaluated with a multidisciplinary approach. This study was conducted to investigate body image and sexual function of Turkish pregnant women and their partners. The descriptive and cross sectional study included totally 508 volunteer Turkish participants (254 pregnant women and their 254 partners). The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Body Image Scale, Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Arizona Sexuality Experiences Scale-Male Form. The mean scores of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain subdomains of FSFI of pregnant women were highest in the second trimester and lowest in the third trimester. Spouses of the women in the third trimester of pregnancy had sexual dysfunction more than spouses of women in the first and second trimesters. There was a significant positive correlation between body image and sexual function of pregnant women. There was a significant negative correlation between body image and sexual function of spouses. Sexual dysfunction increased among the women and their partners in the last trimester. The body image of women differed depending on the trimester and was more negative in the third trimester. Objective: Sexual satisfaction is a predictor of marital satisfaction, and marital satisfaction is a predictor of sexual satisfaction. This study was an evaluation of the quality of this relationship in Turkish women and men with diagnosed sexual dysfunction (SD). Method: A total of 65 married couples in which at least 1 partner had diagnosed SD and who had presented at the Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic were enrolled in the study. Data were collected using a sociodemographic and clinical data form, the Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS), and the Birtchnell Marital Partner Evaluation Scale (BMPES). The participants were divided into 4 groups according to gender and the presence of SD: SD+ female (n=44), SD- female (n=14), SD+ male (n=23), and SD- male (n=35). Results: Comparison of the men and women who were SD+ revealed that the BMPES directiveness subscale scores were higher among the males, whereas the detachment and dependency scores were lower. When compared with their SD- partners, the males also had higher BMPES directiveness scores and lower detachment scores. Analysis of the SD+ and SD- female group findings indicated a significant difference only in the GRISS vaginismus subdimension. Among the men, those who were SD+ had higher total GRISS scores than those who were SD-. Correlations between marital adjustment and sexual satisfaction scores demonstrated a significant relationship between dependency and reliability, and dependency and the total GRISS score in the SD+ male group. The SD+ male group responses indicated that a perception of the female partner as dependent was associated with a higher quality sex life and greater sexual satisfaction, in addition to a high reliability score. Conclusion: Gender and other significant complexities are important considerations for clinicians evaluating sexual satisfaction and marital adjustment in couples with SD. Sexual health is a subject that can generally be overlooked in follow-up examinations after transplantation. The aim of this study was to determine the perceptions of sexuality and sexual health care requirements of patients following kidney transplantation. The data were examined of 98 patients who underwent renal transplantation in the Nephrology Polyclinic between May and October 2019. The data were collected using a data collection form prepared by the researchers with the benefit of previous literature. The data obtained were evaluated using percentages, mean and standard deviation values and the Chi-square test. The patients comprised 57.1% males and 42.9% females with a mean age of 42.2 ± 12.09 years (range 21–71 years), Following transplantation, 52% of the patients reported an improvement in the quality of sex life, 79.6% an increase in sexual desire, and 70.5% an increase in sexual satisfaction. We determined that 52.0% of the patients could not comfortably ask healthcare personnel about sex-life-related problems. Sexuality after transplantation was stated to have had an effect on sex life. The researchers also found that support of the spouse and a change in the relationship with the spouse affected sex life after transplantation. We determined that the sex lives of both male and female patients were affected after renal transplantation. Despite problems related to sexual functioning in the period after renal transplantation, there was seen to be a need for information and counselling about sexual problems by all the patients, regardless of gender. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the prevalence of female sexual dysfunction (FSD) in healthy women and to investigate the related demographic factors. Studies that were conducted in Turkey were included in the analysis. The prevalence of FSD, arousal, desire, pain/vaginismus, satisfaction, lubrication, and orgasm disorders were 39.65, 31, 31.3, 17.6, 23.8, 22.7, and 18.7%, respectively. Crude divorce rate (β= −0.478, p = 0.004), crude marriage rate (β= −0.180, p = 0.037), and age difference between partners (β = 1.08, p = 0.001) had a significant effect on the outcomes. Aim: This study aimed to determine the effects of a postpartum sexual health education programme structured according to Levine's conservation model on postpartum women. Methods: The interventional study was completed with 67 postpartum women. The intervention group was given the postpartum sexual health education programme structured according to Levine's conservation model. The control group received routine discharge training. The data were collected using a personal information form, The Index of Female Sexual Function, Arizona Sexual Experience Scale and Golombok–Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction. Results: It has been determined that the decrease in sexual arousal and desire is the first among postpartum sexual problems experienced by women. This study demonstrated that sexual function, sexual satisfaction and sexual response were higher in nonbreastfeeding women, women who had sexual intercourse one to three times a week and women who could talk to health care professionals on sexual matters. After the programme, the intervention group had more adequate sexual function, and they developed a strong, easy and satisfactory sexual response than the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This programme was effective in increasing the sexual functions and satisfaction of the postpartum women. Models provide guidance to nurses for provision of care in a systematic manner. Sexual health is influenced by physical and mental health status, neurological and hormonal changes and life cycles that lead to changes in body structure or functions. This study presents beneficial and generalizable results for women in different life cycles.The sexual health education programme implemented on the basis of the Levine's model can contribute to the formation of easier/satisfactory sexual response by partners and increase the quality of sexual functions/intercourse. The harmony between the spouses is an important factor that may affect all aspects of a relationship. Marriage-related problems are an important stressor to affecting mental health. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between marital adjustment and sexuality with depressive symptoms in women. The study was conducted with 160 participants and the data were collected by the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale, the General Health Questionnaire and the Marital Adjustment Test. Result of this study it was observed that as the general health status of women was disrupted and their depression risk increased, their marital adjustment decreased and they tended to have problems with sexual functions. Body image and sexual life are often adversely affected in patients with chronic urticaria. The number of studies on this topic is limited. We aimed to determine the body image and sexual self-confidence status in patients with chronic urticaria and the relationship between them. In total, 64 patients with chronic urticaria who visited a dermatology clinic were included in the study. Data were collected by using an introductory information form, Sexual Self-confidence Scale, and Multidimensional Body-Self Relationship Scale. Shapiro–Wilk test was employed to assess normal distribution for descriptive statistics; the data were not found to be normally distributed. Therefore, nonparametric statistical tests were employed. Mann–Whitney U-test was used for binary independent variables; Spearman correlation test was used for correlation analysis. Relational hypotheses were tested by simple linear regression analysis; P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the patients, 57.8% reported that their sexual life was affected by chronic urticaria. Individuals whose sexual lives were affected had lower body image and sexual self-confidence scores. There was a moderate positive correlation between body image and sexual self-confidence. The predictive effect of body image on sexual self-confidence was 24.5%. According to these results, changes in the bodies of patients diagnosed with chronic urticaria and the changes in body image negatively affect sexual self-confidence, self-disclosure, sexual awareness, and sexual courage. Therefore, qualitative and quantitative studies should be performed on patients with chronic urticaria by considering body image and sexual self-confidence status, and treatment processes should be followed through a multidisciplinary approach. Negative body image appraisals may effect the sexual functions, avoidance, and level of finding oneself sexually attractive. The aim of the study is to assess the levels of sexual dysfunction and sexual satisfaction in patients with psoriasis and the effect of the body image appraisal on sexual functions and satisfaction. In all, 216 individuals were included in the study, and 112 of them had psoriasis; 104 individuals who never experienced any skin problems participated in the study and answered questions that assess depression and anxiety levels, sexual problems and satisfaction, as well as body image appraisal. Psoriasis patients showed significantly higher levels of sexual impairments and less satisfaction with sexual life compared to controls. The psoriasis group had lower body image satisfaction compared to the controls. Depression and anxiety levels in the psoriasis group were higher than in the control group. The cognitive meaning of skin involvement as body image satisfaction was found to be the most significant risk factor that affected sexual functions in psoriasis patients. It also predicted sexual satisfaction in the patient group. However, the objective measure of the severity of the disease as Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) was not a determinant of sexual dysfunctions and satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Adolescence, a phase of transition to adulthood, is the period in which there is great personal, intellectual, social and also sexual development. Once adolescents are more open regarding sexuality, through the media, in addition to his critical maturity in development, there is a greater predisposition to believe in myths related to the theme. The aim of this study was to identify myths and beliefs related to sexuality, in the adolescents’ and young adults’ point of view. An integrative review of the literature was carried out and manuscripts published in the last ten years were included. A total of 2,260 participants, aged 11 to 25 years, were included in studies conducted in Brazil, Ghana and Turkey. Among the myths and beliefs studied are: female virginity is important for male sexual satisfaction; circumcision is necessary for intimate hygiene; dress and behavior encourage sexual harassment; alcoholic beverages and/ or illicit drugs increase sexual desire; a boy always has more pleasure than a girl; the bigger the boy’s penis, the greater the girl’s pleasure; girls don’t get pregnant in their first sexual intercourse; masturbation is bad for health, among others. Studies show the need for educational interventions in order to demystify young people’s erroneous beliefs about sexuality so that they can experience it safely and responsibly. Background: Body image dissatisfaction during pregnancy may negatively impact a woman's psychological and physical well-being as well as her sexual life. Aim: The aim of the cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship between sexual function, body image, and the body mass index (BMI) in pregnant women. Methods: The sample of this descriptive and cross-sectional study were included 179 pregnant women. The data was collected via a questionnaire form and Turkish version of Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Body Image Scale (BIS). FSFI score ≤ 26.55 is classified as sexual dysfunction. Results: According to FSFI score, 88.8% of pregnant women had sexual dysfunction. Incidence of sexual dysfunction according to trimesters of pregnant women were 81.8%, 85.7, and 91.9%, respectively. Incidence of good level body image of pregnant women according to trimesters were 78.8%, 65.7% and 66.7%, respectively. FSFI total and its arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, pain subscales did not correlate with BIS, while desire did positively. Overweight and obese based on BMI among pregnant women had a negative effect on them sexual function. Duration of pregnancy, number of pregnancies, restricted sexual intercourse, and husband's changed sexual attitude were predictors affecting the experience of sexual function in pregnancy. Conclusions: The predictors related to the body image in pregnancy: being primary and secondary school, unplanned pregnancy and negative body image in pregnancy, desire, lubrication and pain subscales scores of FSFI. This descriptive study was conducted to compare the sexual function among women with and without diabetes. The study was conducted with 30 women with type 1 diabetes, 30 women with type 2 diabetes attending a diabetes policlinic at a university hospital and 30 women without diabetes, between the dates of September 2015 and December 2016. "Patient Information Form" and "The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI)" were used for data collection. p < 0.05 value was accepted as statistically significant. There was a significant difference between the mean scores of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain subscales of FSFI in women with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and without diabetes (p < 0.05). As the fasting plasma glucose level of women with type 1 diabetes increased, their sexual desire decreased. Women with type 2 diabetes experienced less arousal, as the duration of their diabetes increased, and they experienced less arousal and orgasm as their glycosylated hemoglobin value increased. As the post-prandial glucose level of women with type 2 diabetes increased, they experienced less arousal, orgasm, satisfaction and more pain in their sexual lives. The study results demonstrated that women with diabetes had more sexual concerns in comparison to women without diabetes, and women with type 2 diabetes had more sexual concerns compared to women with type 1 diabetes. Many patients who undergo stoma surgery experience erectile dysfunction or dyspareunia after the procedure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate sexual satisfaction and function in stoma patients. Data were collected from 100 stoma patients between March 2015 and 2016 using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS). Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive methods, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal-Wallis test. GRISS female (n = 24) and male (n = 76) mean scores were 6.20 ± 2.02 and 7.43 ± 1.44, respectively. FSFI mean score was 6.17 ± 8.97 and IIEF mean score was 23.5 ± 18.0. Severe erectile dysfunction was present in 60.5% of males (n = 46). Reportedly, 79.0% of patients had not been informed about possible sexual problems after surgery. Patients shared their experience with sexual problems with a partner (n = 28), medical doctor (n = 9), or no one (n = 20). Statistical significance was found between GRISS female mean scores and education level, marital status, chronic disease and stoma status (permanent/temporary) (p < .05), and between FSFI mean scores and chronic disease and drug use (p < .05). This study suggests that stoma patients experience sexual dissatisfaction and sexual dysfunction, and most patients had not been informed about possible sexual problems and treatment options. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of education on sexual satisfaction in patients who underwent lumbar disc herniation surgery. This research was conducted with pre-test/post-test control group semi-trial model between April 2009 and April 2011. The population of the study is consisted of male patients who underwent lumbar disc herniation surgery in a neurosurgery department of a hospital in Turkey. The sample of the study is consisted of 80 patients chosen by non-probabilistic random sampling method, who are literate; applied to the neurosurgery department for lumber disc herniation surgery; had no visual and auditory problems, no verbal communication problems and no diagnosed psychiatric disorders; and met the research criteria. Of these patients, 40 were included in the study group and 40 were included in the control group. The study group was given education before surgery, after surgery and before discharge, whereas the control group was subjected only to the routine applications of the neurosurgery department. An Introductory Information Form and the Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS) (for male) were used for the collection of data. For the evaluation of the data, the t-test was used for independent groups, whereas the t-test and Pearson's correlation analysis were used for dependent groups. After the education, the sexual satisfaction levels of the study group were found to be statistically significantly higher than the control group (p<0.001). Objective: This descriptive research is to compare women with gestational diabetes mellitus in their third trimester and healthy pregnant women in terms of quality of sex and sexual dysfunction. Method: The data of this cross-sectional study were collected between September and December 2015. The study population consisted of the healthy women and women with gestational diabetes in two region in Turkey. The study included a total of 130 pregnant women. Data were collected face to face interview using the "The Descriptive Questionnaire" which included demographical characteristics and "Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction Female Questionnaire". The data obtained were assessed by SPSS 20 Program. The data were analyzed using arithmetic means, percentage distributions and min-max values as well as the Mann Whitney-U and Student t tests. Results: The mean age of the women included in the study was 30.58+3.82 and their mean gestational week 31.75+5.12. Most of the pregnant women had education at primary school level, were married, lived in provincial centers, had less income than expenses and had health insurance. Of the women with gestational diabetes, 44.6% had their blood sugar measured once a week. The differences between the mean scores of total satisfaction, and the mean touch, frequency, communication, satisfaction, avoidance and anorgasmia subscale scores of women with gestational diabetes and healthy pregnant women were statistically significant (p<0.05). When the total and subscale scores obtained by the pregnant women from the sexual satisfaction inventory were compared with respect to the 3rd trimester, their total, touch, vaginismus, frequency, satisfaction and anorgasmia scores were found to differ significantly from each other (p<0.05). Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction was higher in healthy pregnant women in the 3rd trimester of their pregnancy compared to women with gestational diabetes. Our purpose of conducting this community-based study was to determine sexual functions of women in climacterium and effects of menopausal symptoms on sexual functions. It was descriptive, cross-sectional, and community-based. The study sample consisted of 282 climacteric women. Menopause Rating Scale (MRS), Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women (SSS-W) were used for data collection. The total score was 13.42 ± 8.82 for MRS, 18.73 ± 9.79 for FSFI, and 82.56 ± 18.07 for SSS-W. Seventy-nine-point four percent of the women had sexual dysfunction. This research, which is a cross sectional-descriptive study, aims to evaluate the self-esteem and sexual satisfaction of patients aged between 18 and 70 who had bowel stoma and applied to a Stoma Therapy Polyclinic of a university hospital. The study was conducted between 15 October 2015 and 15 January 2016, with 59 patients who applied to the Stoma Therapy Polyclinic and met the research criteria. The data were collected through the Patient Information Form, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, and Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS) Female-Male forms. Analysis of the data was performed using Pearson Chi Square test, Fisher Exact, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test. Mean score for the patients' total self-esteem was found to be 3.27 ± 2.02, and total GRISS mean score was 58.80 ± 16.44. There was a positive, significant relationship between women's self-esteem and frequency, communication and satisfaction sub-dimensions of GRISS ( p = 0 < 0.05). No significant difference was detected between women's avoidance, touch, vaginismus and anorgasmia scores and their self-esteem ( p > 0.05). As for the male patients, there was a positive, significant relationship between their self-esteem and frequency, communication, satisfaction, avoidance, impotence, and premature ejaculation sub-dimensions of GRISS ( p = 0 < 0.05). Results of the present study show that patients with stoma had moderate levels of self-esteem, they experienced above-moderate levels of sexual problems and there were no significant differences between male and female patients in terms of self-esteem mean scores and sexual functions (except for frequency scores). This study was aimed at determining the quality of sexual life and changes occurring in the sexual life of women with high-risk pregnancy. The study was carried out at the obstetric clinic of a hospital in a province located in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. The population of this cross-sectional study comprised 112 women diagnosed with high-risk pregnancy. When the period during which the women had a diagnosis of high-risk pregnancy was compared to the period during which they did not have such a diagnosis, it was determined that more than half of the women experienced adverse changes in their sexual lives. Background: Different contraceptive methods have different effects on the sexual lives of couples/individuals. Objective: This research was designed in order to determine the effect of the contraceptive methods on female sexual function. Methods: The study which is planned as a diagnostic type is realized following the permission of the ethical board commission of in a university hospital in Istanbul. The population of the study is formed of women of 18 years old and older who applied to the between January and July 2011. The sample of the study is formed through the nonprobability sampling method from the women who didn’t have a psychiatric disease, mental retardation and who were sexually active and agreed to join the study (n=479). As research instruments, an interview form and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) that evaluated sexual dysfunction were used. Results: It is determined that the women who use intra uterine device (IUD) as a contraceptive method have significantly lower FSFI subscale scores of desire average in comparison to the women who use contraceptives. In this study was determined that they still use the withdrawal method as a traditional contraceptive method no negatively affects sexual life in women. This cross-sectional study has been conducted in a descriptive, correlational design in order to determine the correlation between sexual satisfaction and depressive symptoms. In this respect, sexual satisfaction and depression scores were assessed in 102 infertile couples in a Turkish university hospital. There was a positive and meaningful correlation between Beck Depression scores and educational status and monthly income of infertile women on the one hand, and among marriage, infertility, infertility treatment durations, and the number of assisted-reproduction treatments on the other hand. It was found that there were more sexual dysfunctions in women than in men and that they were affected more deeply. The present study examined the prevalence of lifetime experiences of physical and psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) among members of the Turkish ethnic minority population in Flanders. In addition, this study explored how lifetime IPV victimization affects ethnic minority victims’ current mental, relational, and sexual well-being. Using a population-based representative sample, data from 392 adult Turkish women and men were investigated. Lifetime experiences of physical violence were reported by 14.3% of the Turkish respondents, while 66.0% reported at least one incidence of psychological abuse. Women were much more likely than men to report physical IPV victimization, but no gender differences were found for psychological IPV. With regard to the impact of IPV, it was found that lifetime IPV experiences do not appear to affect victims’ current mental health. However, higher levels of physical and/or psychological IPV victimization were related to increased levels of relationship dissatisfaction, anxious and avoidant attachment orientations, sexual dissatisfaction, sexual dysfunction (with distress), and to decreased levels of sexual communication. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of home care service on the sexual satisfaction of patients with gynecologic cancer. Sexual health and sexual satisfaction was greatly affect in patients with gynecological cancer depending on the disease and its treatments. Prospective randomized case control study. This study was conducted with 70 patients, of whom 35 patients were in the intervention and 35 patients were in the control group. Data were collected using An Interview Questionnaire, Home Visit Monitoring Questionnaire and Golombok Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction. The intervention group patients were provided with the nursing care service through hospital and home visits (1st and 12th weeks) within the framework of a specifically developed nursing care plans. The control group was monitored without any intervention through the hospital routine protocols (1st and 12th weeks). Data were evaluated using Chi square, McNemar's, independent t test and one-way ANOVA tests. It was found that, within the 12-week post-discharge monitoring period as compared with the time before treatment, patients within the intervention group (those receiving home care services) experienced fewer sexual problems as compared to the control group (patients not receiving home care services). The article discusses the impact of overactive bladder syndrome on asymptomatic continent women's sexual life. The study done by the authors centered on 1,504 women presented to Pamukkale University Medical Faculty Gynaecology and Obstetrics Clinic in Turkey, who were later divided into two groups using the Over Active Bladder Assessment Tool. The authors concluded that overactive bladder syndrome significantly affects the sexual life of those diagnosed.

The cross-sectional study was conducted to examine the relationship between sexual function, body mass index and body image among women. 193 women were included in the sampling. The data was collected using questionnaire form, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and Body Image Scale (BIS). The mean of the total FSFI score was 22.62 (SD 6.54, range 2.00-32.00). The mean of the BIS score was 145.29 (SD 17.73, range 93-200). The mean of the body mass index (BMI) was 24.50 (SD 3.75, range 16.05-35.56). Of the six sexual function parameters, pain (r = 0.044) did not correlate with BIS, while desire (r = 0.351), arousal (r = 0.335), lubrication (r = 0.242), orgasm (r = 0.335), satisfaction (r = 0.339) and FSFI total (r = 0.343), all p < 0.001 did. In according to BMI groups of women were observed significant difference in BIS scores ( p = 0.007), but FSFI scores were not ( p > 0.05). In conclusion, positive body image of women had a positive effect on their sexual function. Overweight and obese based on BMI among women had a negative effect on woman's body image, but had no effected on woman's sexual function. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This descriptive study investigated the relationship between depression and perceptions of sexuality in people with type II diabetes. The study population comprised all patients who came for check-ups at the polyclinic for diabetes at Istanbul Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital between November 2010 and February 2011. One hundred patients were willing to participate in the study and met the participant criteria. Socio-demographic characteristics, perceptions of sexuality, and other factors related to diabetes were evaluated from information provided by participants. The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) was used to evaluate depression. Results revealed an average depression score of 16.34 ± 8.06. The average level of depression was higher in women, those whose level of education was low, and the unemployed. Of the participants, 53% reported that diabetes has affected their sex life adversely. There was no relationship between level of depression and aspects of the illness. However, level of depression was related to sexual satisfaction. Findings suggest that depression and sexually related problems should be addressed when providing care for people diagnosed with type II diabetes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to investigate vaginal dryness (VD) problems among 40-65 year old married women in Southeastern Turkey and its effect on their sexuality and health. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 281 women aged 40-65 via face-to-face interview. The results of the study showed that participating women feel that they lose their sexual functions as a result of VD problems. Reported sexually related problems were as follows: decreased sexual desire was identified in 14 % of women, sexual coercion by her partner in 20.6 %, trouble receiving sexual pleasure in 54.4 %. The incidence of VD was found to be 47 %. About 8.9 % of the women stated that their partners complain about the dryness all the time, 73.6 % of the women did not take any action to improve dryness in order to facilitate sexual intercourse. Statistically significant relationships were found between a woman's having VD and violence from her partner, sexual coercion by her partner, and decrease in sexual desire and sexual pleasure ( p < 0.05). It is recommended that women who are in menopause or during transition stages be routinely assessed for VD and sexuality by nurses or physicians in a professional atmosphere in order to help relieve discomfort. Objective: Sexual problems are widely encountered in community. While studies clinically perforned concerning sexual peoblems in Turkey exist, there are no field studies related to sexual problems witnessed in both men and women. In this study, sexual problems in married population and the level of their sexual knowledge have been tried to be investigated. Method: The cosmos of the study consisted of the whole married population between the ages of 18 and 60 and living in the province of Konya. Sociodemografic Information Form and Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction were performed in 945 subjects accepting to take part in the study and appropriate. Results: Average age rate of the males taking part in the study was 38.5±9.5 and the same rate of women was 34.2±9.8. According to the findings provided via GRISS, the rate of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men was 14.5 %, the rate of premature ejeculation (PE) 29.3 %, the rate of anorgasmia in women was found to be 5.3 %, and the rate of vaginismus to be 15.3 %. Conclusion: Prevalence rates of PE, ED and anorgasmia in our sample was parallel to those provided from other countries at same age group. The article presents a study which examined the effectiveness of a premarital counselling program and its effects on the sexual satisfaction of married couples. Topics covered in sexual counselling program training booklets include conceptions of family and marriage, sexual health, and sexual anatomy. The study found that levels of sexual satisfaction were higher among women and men who attended premarital sexual counselling education. It is suggested that further studies should be planned involving groups with different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, research on the levels of sexual satisfaction of couples who are within six months of their wedding day, and pre-marital sexual counselling programs through group training.
