Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and quality of Turkish videos about the provincial age exercise program on YouTube. Materials and Methods: On August 22, 2022, an internet search was made using YouTube, the popular search engine in Turkey, and the exercises recommended for the ages were evaluated. Forty YouTube videos were rated by two supervisors (physiatrists). The videos included in the study were evaluated using the Quality Criteria for Consumer Health Information (DISCERN) tool and Global Quality and Services (GQS) benchmarks. In addition, video duration, likes, dislikes, number of comments, duration of the video on the internet, video power index, viewing rate and liking rates were evaluated. Results: According to the evaluation of both observers, the videos were found to be of medium to poor quality. While the average DISCERN score of the first observer was 41.3±17.5, the average of the DISCERN score of the second observer was 44.2±17.1, and according to the analysis, the intraclass correlation coefficient value was found to be 0.898 and it was seen that there was a very good agreement. There was a high level of agreement between the two observers in terms of the DISCERN score category (κ=0.683, p<0.001). Again, according to both observers, GQS average of the videos was determined as moderate-poor results and positive correlation was found between both. Conclusion: It was determined that the content of the videos on YouTube about the age exercise programs was generally inadequate or of poor quality. It has been determined that there is a need for videos that can contribute to the preparation of higher quality and informational videos based on international guidelines, and to increase public awareness about patient compliance and exercise programs. Aim: Intravenous catheter use can cause various infections ranging from infection at the site of catheter entry to bacteremia and colonization. The purpose of this study was to identify the causative micro-organisms, and effects on morbidity-mortality of catheter-related bloodstream infections developing over the last five years. Material and Methods: Data for 194 patients who underwent central intravenous catheter insertion in our hospital's intensive care unit and other departments between November 2014 and August 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. Blood samples taken from the catheter or the catheter tip, and blood samples collected simultaneously from the peripheral vein were included in the study, and culture results were recorded. Patients' demographic data and the effects of the factors identified on morbidity and mortality were subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Ninety-two (47.4%) of the 194 patients included in the study were female and 102 (52.6%) were male, and mortality rate was 62.4% (n=121). The frequency of underlying medical conditions such as asthma, congestive heart failure, and cerebrovascular event, and receiving treatments such as immunosuppression, transfusion, tracheostomy, nasogastric tube, and mechanical ventilation were higher in mortal cases than non-mortal cases. A total of two hundred and forty microorganisms were detected in 194 patients, 121 (50.4%) of which were Gram negative bacteria, while 68 (28.3%) were Gram positive bacteria, and 51 (21.3%) were Candida species. Conclusion: As a result, it was observed that the advanced age, underlying diseases and presence of resistant microorganisms were higher in mortal cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of this study was to conduct a content analysis of postgraduate theses related to old age. Methods: This research was designed as a descriptive study based on a survey model. Theses published for public access between January 1, 2007 and January 1, 2017 in the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) National Thesis Center were screened using the keywords "elderly", "old age", and "advanced age" and a total of 405 thesis studies were identified. Of these, a total of 176 theses that met the study criteria were included in the study and evaluated. Data were collected for the study using a Thesis Evaluation Form prepared by the researchers. Descriptive statistical methods (percent, frequency, mean) were used to analyze the study data. Ethical approved was obtained from the University Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Committee. Results: Of the 176 studies included in our analysis, 46.6% were for master's degrees, 14.8% were for doctoral degrees, and 38.6% were for medical specialty/subspecialty. In terms of general field, 78.4% of the theses were related to health sciences and 21.6% were in the social sciences. Determining the nature and scope of thesis studies related to geriatrics conducted at the graduate level is important in order to identify overlooked areas in this field of research. Scientific research is a prerequisite for advancement in all disciplines, and determining the quantity and quality of scientific studies related to the field of geriatrics will contribute to its academic development. Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most seen infection among community., Objectives: In this cross-sectional study we aimed to investigate the risk factors of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria that caused community-acquired UTI (CA-UTI)., Methods: Consecutive patients admitted to the Urology and Infectious Diseases policlinics with the diagnosis of CA-UTI were included in the study. A standard form including possible predisposing factors for MDR bacteria was applied., Results: In total, 240 patients (51.3% females) were enrolled in the study. The mean age of participants were 59.8 ± 18.3 years old. Escherichia coli (n =166; 69.2%)was the most frequently isolated bacteria and its incidence was higher in females than in males (p=0.01). In total, 129 (53.8%) of the identified pathogens were MDR bacteria. According to multivariate analysis, the use of antibiotics three or more times increased the risk of infection with MDR bacteria by 4.6 times, the history of urinary tract infection in the last 6 months by 2 times, being male and over 65 years old by 3 times., Conclusion: Doctors should consider prescribing broad-spectrum antibiotics in patients with severe UTIs with a history of UTI, advanced age, male gender, and multiple antibiotic usage, even if they have a CA-UTI., (© 2021 Guclu E et al.)
