CULTURAL intelligence , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *TEST validity , *CULTURAL relations , *CULTURAL awareness , *METACOGNITION , *TRAVEL hygiene - Abstract
In organized travels, people who inform and accompany visitors in the destinations visited as a profession are defined tourist guides. Tourist guides-attributed as cultural interpreters in intercultural interaction-should have the capacity of cultural awareness and sensitivity in today's life where intercultural relations are intensified. Tourist guides interact with three different cultures during the tour: their own culture, the culture of the local people and the tourist culture. The ability to adapt to other cultures in today's world and the culturally appropriate interpretation techniques used by tour guides are significant variables influencing their success as cultural interpreters in intercultural engagement. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the relationship between tourist guides' metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral aspects of cultural intelligence and interpretation performance. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with the 308 tourist guides operating as active tourist guides in Turkey. Datas were carried out in the SPSS and Lisrel package program. The obtained data were first subjected to descriptive statistics. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to test the construct validity of the scales in our country, correlation analysis was used to test the relationship between variables. Research hypotheses were tested with regression analysis. The findings demonstrate a positive relationship between the cultural intelligence dimensions (metacognitive, motivational and behavioral) of the tourist guides and the interpretation performance. This study contributes to theoretical and practical aspects regarding the cultural intelligence levels and interpretation performance of tour guides. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between cultural intelligence and global citizenship. The study group of the research consisted of 336 pre-service teachers, including pedagogical formation students, selected by a random sampling method from a state university in eastern Turkey, where the immigrant population is dense. Both the "Cultural Intelligence Scale" and "Global Citizenship Scale" were used as data collection tools. In order to statistically determine the levels of cultural intelligence and global citizenship by demographic variables, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA were employed by the researcher. Likewise, while the Pearson product-moment correlation analysis was implemented to examine the relationships among the variables, multiple regression analysis was used to determine the predictive coefficients between the variables. Based on the research findings, cultural intelligence was positively correlated with global citizenship. The behavioral dimension of cultural intelligence was the best predictor of global competence. Cultural intelligence levels of pre-service teachers seem to have a significant impact on shaping their process of becoming global citizens. If a person could be able to change his or her body language, spoken language, expressions, and behaviors when encountering any person or people from different ethnic groups and identities, this would mean that s/he is using the behavioral component of cultural intelligence. In this respect, cultural intelligence facilitates being a global citizen and increases adaptation. Therefore, the dimension of cultural intelligence evidently appears to be an essential factor for global citizenship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This study aims to discuss cultural intelligence levels and intercultural communication apprehension of nurses. Method: This study was designed as a descriptive and cross-sectional study, and it was conducted with 252 nurses working in a hospital in a south city of Turkey. The research data were collected via a "Personal Information Form" designed by the researchers, "The Cultural Intelligence Scale," and "The Intercultural Communication Apprehension Scale." Results: It was concluded that nurses had moderate levels of cultural intelligence and intercultural communication apprehension, which were positively correlated (p <.001). Cultural intelligence levels and intercultural communication apprehension were further correlated with certain variables such as age, gender, job duration, foreign language proficiency, and their experiences in foreign countries (p <.05). Discussion: In light of the results, it was suggested that moderate levels of intercultural communication apprehension can be a supportive factor in developing cultural intelligence. It was also added that preventing excessive intercultural communication apprehension and supporting nurses to improve language skills and to have abroad experience may be beneficial in developing cultural intelligence. The research investigated the role of social justice in the relationship between cultural intelligence and attitude toward teaching profession. For a sustainable education, social justice and cultural intelligence are seen crucial in teaching profession. The data of the study were collected from 404 prospective teachers studying at a state university in Turkey by using a paper-based survey. For collecting the data, "Cultural Intelligence Scale (CIS)" developed by Ang et al. (2007) and adapted into Turkish by Ilhan and Cetin (2014); "Social Justice Scale (SJS)" developed by Torres-Harding et al. (2012) and adapted into Turkish by Cirik (2015); and "Attitude Scale of Teaching Profession" developed by Üstüner (2006) were used. A structural model was established and conducted to hypothesize the research questions. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to validate the measurement and structural model. The SEM-based mediating analysis using SPSS AMOS was employed to test the hypothesized relationships. According to the results, cultural intelligence predicted the attitude towards the teaching profession and also social justice. Moreover, social justice was found to be in the full mediating role in the relationship between cultural intelligence and attitude towards the teaching profession. The research concluded that social justice was an important factor in increasing cultural intelligence competencies of teacher candidates to enhance their positive attitude towards teaching profession. It is seen that employees with high emotional intelligence (EI) generally have low level of job stress; they can also integrate better with their jobs and provide a high level of job satisfaction (JS). This study aims to investigate the moderating effect of the cultural intelligence (CI) level of academicians on the relationship between their EI and JS. The data were collected from 470 academicians working in Turkish universities. The sample consists of 3 sub-groups: academicians that are Turkish citizens of and completed their entire education in Turkey, academicians that are Turkish citizens and received a part of their education abroad, and academicians that are not citizens of Turkey and completed their education outside of Turkey. According to the research results, it was found that there is a significant positive relationship between the EI level of the academicians and their JS. The research also determined that CI had a moderating effect on the positive relationship between EI and JS. The CI level of the academicians strengthens the positive relationship between their EI and JS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study assessed the factor structure and measurement invariance of the Cultural Intelligence Scale (CQS) in university students from Romania, Turkey, and Iceland. A total of 730 undergraduates completed the 20 item-CQS. Confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the four-factor model, which consisted of metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral dimensions, fit the data better than alternative models (three-factor and single-factor models). Discriminant and convergent validity of the CQS was also confirmed. Furthermore, the invariance of test for the CQS showed that the four-factor model of the CQS is suitable across three countries and the pattern of factor loading is invariant across these countries. However, the results did not support scalar invariance for three countries, which showed that partial measurement invariance was only established. In conclusion, the students in three countries reacted to the items for evaluating CQ in different ways, according to the findings of this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The role of expat's community has emerged as a cornerstone for branding tourism destinations. This study focused on 307 expats (across Korea and Turkey) and investigated the effects of perceived destination personality (DP) on destination brand equity (DBE), under the moderating influence of expat's cultural intelligence (ECI). The findings empirically confirmed the significant positive effect of DP on DBE, however, the cross-country differences in DBE were significantly influenced by ECI. The study findings offer strategic directions for destination marketers to re-assess the vital role of global expats in boosting DP and DBE, especially when ECI remains superior over general tourists.
