Bipolar disorder is thought to determine the insights and coping attitudes that affect a patient's compliance with treatment, which can positively affect the prognosis of the disease. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between insight and coping attitudes in bipolar disorder patients. This descriptive study was carried out with 127 volunteer patients who were diagnosed with bipolar disorder according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and who were in a euthymic state. The Personal Information Form, Beck Cognitive Insight Scale (BCIS) and Scale of Coping Attitudes (COPE) were used as data collection tools. We found positive correlations between the total COPE score, the total BCIS score and the self-reflectivity subscale score of the BCIS. A positive and significant correlation was also determined between the BCIS subscales and total scores and coping attitudes toward adaptation with the COPE subscales (p < 0.05). A positive and significant relationship was found between the insight scores and total coping scores of the patients and their coping attitudes toward adaptation. We found that when patients' levels of insight increased, their coping attitudes toward adaptation were used more frequently. In this study, we examined the mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between insight and altruism and flourishing among mental health professional candidates. We adopted a cross-sectional atemporal design to examine how mental health professional candidates' insight and altruism affect their flourishing via self-compassion. The model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). Four hundred one participants (Male = 76, Female = 324; Mage = 20.5, SD = 1.8) took part in the study via a web-based survey and completed the Psychological Well-Being Scale, Altruism Scale, Self-compassion Scale, and Insight Scale. The study results showed that insight, altruism, and self-compassion were meaningful psychological dynamics supporting flourishing. The results revealed that self-compassion played a mediating role in the effect of insight on flourishing. On the other hand, the results showed that self-compassion did not mediate the effect of altruism on flourishing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to examine the effects of holistic nursing competence on work engagement, self-reflection and insight in nurses. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 309 nurses working in Turkey. Data were collected using the "Descriptive Information Form", "Holistic Nursing Competence Scale (HNCS)", "Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES)", and "Self-Reflection and Insight Scale (SRIS)". Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. We found that the HNCS had a moderate positive relationship (r = 0.411, p < 0.05) with the UWES, and a weak positive relationship (r = 0.324, p < 0.05) with the SRIS. In the model established by multiple regression analysis, the effect of the HNCS, age, marital status, position, and performing the profession willingly on work engagement explained 33.7% of the variance. In another established model, the effect of the HNCS, gender, and having children on self-reflection and insight explained 11.5% of the variance. Our findings revealed the effect of holistic competence on nurses' positive attitudes about their work engagement and self-reflection in practice. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the disability, insight and self‐care agency of schizophrenia patients. Design and Method: This descriptive study was conducted with 100 patients in remission who had a diagnosis of schizophrenia at community mental health centers. Results: The schizophrenia patients had poor insight and moderate self‐care agency. The self‐care agency of schizophrenia patients is a neglected issue in medicine, and is associated with positive and negative symptoms, insight and disability. Implementation Results: The results can guide community mental health center nurses to increase the quality of life of schizophrenia patients in remission and to help reintegrate them into society. This study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness-based psychosocial skills training (MBPST) on the functional recovery and insight level in patients with schizophrenia. In this study, 40 patients with schizophrenia registered in the Aksaray Community Mental Health Centre were divided into two groups: the intervention group (n = 20) and the non-intervention group (n = 20). The Functional Recovery Scale in Schizophrenia (FRSS) and the Beck Cognitive Insight Scale (BCIS) were measured at preintervention and postintervention. The posttest mean scores of FRSS and BCIS of the intervention group were statistically higher than the non-intervention group (p < 0.05). The MBPST program improved functional recovery and cognitive insight in schizophrenia. In line with these results, it has been recommended that MBPST program should be provided along with medical treatment in Community Mental Health Centres. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Acute mania is a serious medical condition that impacts men and women equally. Longtime presentation of manic symptoms is sex‐dependent; however, little is known about acute symptoms of mania. The objective of this study is to track and compare acute manic symptoms for sex differences during inpatient hospitalization. Methods: All patients with bipolar mania admitted to a large university hospital between January and October 2017 were invited to participate in this longitudinal naturalistic follow‐up study. Manic (YMRS), depressive (MADRS), and psychotic (PAS) symptoms were tracked daily from admission to discharge. Results: The total YMRS scores decreased significantly overtime (p <.0001) in both male (n = 34) and female (n = 23) patients (p =.7). However, male patients scored significantly higher in sexual interest (p =.01), disruptive and aggressive behavior (p =.01), and appearance (p <.001) while females had better insight into their illness (p =.01). Males and females received similar doses of lithium (p =.1), but males received significantly higher doses of valproic acid (VPA) in comparison with females (p =.003). However, plasma lithium and VPA concentrations at discharge were not significantly different between sexes. Conclusion: Our results show sex differences in the progression of certain domains of manic symptoms in a cohort of 23 female and 34 male patients admitted to a large academic center in Turkey. Males, in this sample, exhibited more sexual interest, disruptive and aggressive behaviors, better grooming, and less insight compared to females. While these results are concordant with our preclinical findings and with anecdotal clinical observations, replication in larger samples is needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the mediator and moderator effects of personal self-concept on the relationship between insight and psychological vulnerability were investigated. The participants were 322 university students attending different departments at Kocaeli University in Turkey. Data were collected by using the Insight Scale, the Psychological Vulnerability Scale and the personal selfconcept Scale. Data were analyzed via Hierarchical Regression Analysis. The statistical analyses of the data by using "SPSS for Windows, version 20" package program. Insight, psychological vulnerability and personal self-concept were significantly correlated. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that personal self-concept partially mediated the relationship between insight and psychological vulnerability. However, personal self-concept had not moderating effect on the relationship insight and psychological vulnerability. Results were discussed in the light of the in the light of literature. Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the correlation of violent behavior with insight, clinical symptoms and treatment adherence in patients with schizophrenia. Method: 104 randomly selected inpatients between 20 and 65 years of age, treated with a diagnosis of schizophrenia according to DSM-IV-TR criteria at Bakırköy Research and Training Hospital for Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry were included in the study. The Schedule For Assessment of Three Components of Insight (SAI), Overt Aggression Scale (OAS), Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) Turkish forms were applied to the patients. Results: Treatment adherence was correlated with insight levels. Mean OAS scores of "non-adherent" patients were significantly higher than patients with treatment adherence. SAI scores were inversely correlated with PANSS positive and negative symptoms, but not correlated with PANSS general psychopathology scores. The OAS scores were found to be correlated with PANSS positive symptoms scores merely. There was no correlation between SAI and OAS scores. Conclusion: The results indicate that treatment adherence is correlated positively with insight and negatively with aggression. Aggression and severity of illness are correlated as well in our sample. Community-based treatment programs and psycho-education of outpatients should be conducted to maintain treatment adherence. Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effect of insights on medication adherence in patients with schizophrenia., Design and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted between June 2017 and June 2018 in the Elazig Mental Health and Diseases Hospital. The sample of the study was determined as 300 patients with schizophrenia with the power analysis. Descriptive Characteristics Form, Birchwood Insight Scale, and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale were used to collect the data. In the analysis of data, percentage, arithmetic mean, independent samples t test, the Kruskal Wallis test, analysis of variance, regression analysis, and post hoc-Tukey tests were used., Findings: Approximately 69% of the patients had a moderate level of medication adherence and moderate insight. Purpose: To examine the effect of motivational interview (MI) on treatment adherence and insight of the patients diagnosed with schizophrenia at a hospital in Turkey., Design and Methods: Individuals with schizophrenia, who match with the sample characteristics, were assigned to intervention (20) and control groups (20) according to the randomization schedule. Personal Information Form, Self-Reported Measure of Medication Adherence, and Schedule for Assessing the Three Components of Insight were used., Findings: Group-wise examinations showed that mean scores of "three component scales of insight" yielded statistically significant difference for the intervention group. Analysis of the Treatment Adherence Scale Mean Scores showed a significant difference for interval mean scores of the intervention group., Practice Implications: Both the pyschiatric patients and the health institutions can benefit from increased levels of treatment adherence and insight by the adoption of the MI methods starting with a patient's first registration to a psychiatric outpatient clinic., Implications for Nursing Practice: MI can be included during any of the patient visits to establish treatment collaboration with psychiatric patients at psychiatric facilities, outpatient clinics, and community mental health centers., (© 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)
