The article discusses biofuel production from jatropha crops, the industry's popularity among investors in Great Britain, and industry impacts on poor communities in developing countries related to land conflicts, food security, and hunger. Jatropha is characterized to contain non-edible vegetable oil that can be processed into diesel fuel. It is grown largely in Africa, Latin America, and south-east Asia. Farmers encouraged to plant jatropha for biomass energy production have not realized promised incomes because of poor demand for the product. Companies promoting jatropha investments include Onyx World Ltd., Sustain Investments, and BluSky.
