Highlights: [•] Spatial and temporal moisture of forest floor fuels were studied in the Tahoe Basin. [•] Tahoe Basin forests may have substantial forest floor consumption during wildfires. [•] There is homogeneity in litter and fuel moisture, regardless of spatial position. [•] Duff moisture content is highly variable within stands and between years.
