Introduction: netnography is a research method that has emerged in response to the growing popularity of online communication and social networks. Aim: to analyze communication patterns about netnography in the Scopus database. Methods: a bibliometric study was conducted in the Scopus database on netnography. The analysis was conducted globally, by country, and by institution. Results: a total of 11173 documents and 2213 authors were recovered. 35,1 % of the documents were open access. The global field-weighted citation impact was 1,27. the most productive ones in the following order: United Kingdom (275 documents), United States (223 documents), Australia (165 documents), Brazil (100 documents), and France (83 documents). Conclusions: the results show that netnography is an emerging area of research, with a wide geographic and thematic diversity, that has experienced steady growth in recent years and is being explored in a variety of contexts, from market research to the analysis of social dynamics online. In the consumer society, desires are transformed into needs and this affects the emergence of compulsive buying and its negative effects on a personal and social level. For this reason, an analysis and synthesis effort is required on the existing scientific knowledge, which improves the understanding of the area. The objective is to analyze the development of scientific production on compulsive buying. The inclusion criteria were: individual empirical articles and reviews, covering up to the year 2020 and without language bias. The databases Web of Science, Scopus and PsycINFO were used. Through a bibliometric analysis -with PRISMA criteria- and using the EndNote X9 reference manager, 971 publications were located. The results indicate: an increase in productivity since 2005; English is the prevailing language of the publications; USA is the country with the highest productivity; the most frequent keyword is compulsive buying. Three main research teams on the phenomenon were identified and a content analysis of their publications was made. A report of the most cited articles of the databases was made. It is concluded that there is little investigative precision on compulsive buying despite the increase in annual productivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper characterizes the scientific output of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in agricultural sciences as represented in the database Web of Science between 2000-2010. Based on the analysis of 6,617 indexed documents, using Bibexcel, we identified types of documents, languages and journals most frequently used by authors to disseminate their research. The annual production growth and a list of the most productive institutions are also presented. The results reveal that agricultural research in Rio Grande do Sul, indexed in the Web of Science, showed a strong growth, increasing from 179 articles in 2000 to 1,107 documents in 2010. Scientific papers accounted for 92% of the publications. English and Portuguese were the most used languages by the authors. As to the journals, 18 out of the 20 titles most used by researchers are published in Brazil. The journal Ciência Rural led the ranking of the most used journals, accounting 10% of total output during 2000-2010. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research performance of 64 Mexicans who obtained their Ph.D. in American universities from 1980 to 1998 was examined in order to determine the extent of brain drain. A variety of sources were used for this purpose: Dissertation Abstracts, MathSciNet, Science Citation Index Expanded and the Mexican National Researchers System database.
