The aggregation of the variables that compose an indicator, as GDP, which should be forecasted, is not mentioned explicitly in literature as a source of forecasts uncertainty. In this study based on data on U.S. GDP and its components in 1995-2010, we found that GDP one-step-ahead forecasts made by aggregating the components with variable weights, modeled using ARMA procedure, have a higher accuracy than those with constant weights or the direct forecasts. Excepting the GDP forecasts obtained directly from the model, the one-step-ahead forecasts resulted form the GDP components' forecasts aggregation are better than those made on an horizon of 3 years . The evaluation of this source of uncertainty should be considered for macroeconomic aggregates in order to choose the most accurate forecast. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Reports of Enterobacteriaceae resistant to all commonly used antimicrobial agents, including β-lactams, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides, are increasing in hospitals worldwide. The activity of ACHN-490, a next-generation aminoglycoside, was examined against clinical isolates of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae from hospitals in New York City, an area where multidrug-resistant organisms are endemic. Nineteen isolates of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella species were recovered from 7 hospitals in New York City. Most K. pneumoniae belonged to a single ribotype. Nucleotide sequencing identified KPC-2, a carbapenem- hydrolyzing β-lactamase. In 3 strains, TEM-30, an inhibitor-resistant β-lactamase, was detected. Carbapenem- resistant Klebsiella species possessing KPC-2 are endemic in New York City. This study documents the identification of an inhibitor-resistant TEM β-lactamase in the United States.
