Abstract

The article discusses a study which compared the efficacy of prolonged exposure therapy and treatment as usual (TAU) for combat and terror-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The study involved 30 patients with chronic PTSD from the U.S. Veteran Administration. The patients were randomized to receive either prolonged exposure or TAU therapies. Patients who underwent prolonged exposure therapy showed lower severity of PTSD symptom compared with those who received TAU.
