Background: Currently, the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is progressively rising, particularly in developed nations. There is an escalating focus on the onset and progression of AD. A mounting body of research indicates that epigenetics significantly contributes to AD and holds substantial promise as a novel therapeutic target for its treatment. Objective: The objective of this article is to present the AD areas of research interest, comprehend the contextual framework of the subject research, and investigate the prospective direction for future research development. Methods: ln Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC), we searched documents by specific subject terms and their corresponding free words. VOSviewer, CiteSpace and Scimago Graphica were used to perform statistical analysis on measurement metrics such as the number of published papers, national cooperative networks, publishing countries, institutions, authors, co-cited journals, keywords, and visualize networks of related content elements. Results: We selected 1,530 articles from WOSCC from January 2013 to June 2023 about epigenetics of AD. Based on visual analysis, we could get that China and United States were the countries with the most research in this field. Bennett DA was the most contributed and prestigious scientist. The top 3 cited journals were Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Neurobiology of Aging and Molecular Neurobiology. According to the analysis of keywords and the frequency of citations, ncRNAs, transcription factor, genome, histone modification, blood DNA methylation, acetylation, biomarkers were hot research directions in AD today. Conclusion: According to bibliometric analysis, epigenetic research in AD was a promising research direction, and epigenetics had the potential to be used as AD biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Background: Ultra-processed foods have now become dominant in the global food system. Whether their consumption is associated with cardiovascular mortality remains controversial. Moreover, data on ultra-processed foods and cardiovascular outcomes are scarce in the US population. We aimed to examine the association of ultra-processed food consumption with cardiovascular mortality in a US population. Methods: A population-based cohort of 91,891 participants was identified from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial. Dietary data were collected through a validated 137-item food frequency questionnaire. Ultra-processed foods were defined by the NOVA classification. Cox regression was used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for cardiovascular mortality. Restricted cubic spline regression was used to test nonlinearity. Subgroup analyses were conducted to identify the potential effect modifiers. Results: After an average follow-up of 13.5 years (1,236,049.2 person-years), 5490 cardiovascular deaths were documented, including 3985 heart disease deaths and 1126 cerebrovascular deaths. In the fully adjusted model, participants in the highest vs. the lowest quintiles of ultra-processed food consumption had higher risks of death from cardiovascular disease (HRquintile 5 vs. 1, 1.50; 95% CI, 1.36–1.64) and heart disease (HRquintile 5 vs. 1, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.50–1.87) but not cerebrovascular disease (HRquintile 5 vs. 1, 0.94; 95% CI, 0.76–1.17). A nonlinear dose–response pattern was observed for overall cardiovascular and heart disease mortality (all Pnonlinearity < 0.05), with a threshold effect observed at ultra-processed food consumption of 2.4 servings/day and 2.3 servings/day, respectively; below the thresholds, no significant associations were observed for these two outcomes. Subgroup analyses showed that the increased risks of mortality from ultra-processed foods were significantly higher in women than in men (all Pinteraction < 0.05). Conclusions: High consumption of ultra-processed foods is associated with increased risks of overall cardiovascular and heart disease mortality. Purpose: Biochar has shown to be a great product to control the bioavailability of potentially hazardous elements (PHE) in contaminated soils. Despite the advantages associated with the application of biochar in agricultural soils, relatively few studies have focused on the effects of biochar amendments on soil chemical properties, accumulation of arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and lead in rice tissues, and their availability in soil systems. Materials and methods: The field experiment was conducted at the paddy soils in Hunan Province, China. The soil texture was sandy clay loam. Wheat-derived biochar was applied once to the experimental plots at the rates of 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 t ha−1, and referenced as A0, A10, A20, A30, and A40, respectively. For PHE determination, soil samples and plant samples were digested with a mixed solution of HCl:HNO3 (4:1, V:V) and HCl:HClO4 (4:1, V:V), respectively, and the arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and lead in the digest solution were measured by ICP-MS (Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA). The soil available fraction of PHE (arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and lead) was extracted by diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and measured by inductively ICP-MS. Results and discussion: Biochar amendment increased chemical properties of soil organic matter, pH, electrical conductivity, cation exchange capacity, nitrate nitrogen, and available phosphorus. Soil DTPA extractable arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and lead concentrations were significantly reduced. Arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and lead in rice shoots, and arsenic, cadmium, and zinc in roots significantly decreased after amendment. Concentrations in rice tissues positively and negatively correlated with the soil available fraction of PHE and soil chemical properties, respectively. Soil electrical conductivity negatively correlated with the soil available fraction of PHE. Concentrations of arsenic, zinc, cadmium, and lead in rice roots declined relative to increases of cation exchange capacity (arsenic, zinc), available phosphorus (cadmium), and nitric nitrogen (lead) content. Similar relationships were observed between cation exchange capacity and PHE in shoots. Conclusions: Biochar creates avoidance of PHE through regulating chemical properties through biochar sorption capacity. Cation exchange capacity, available phosphorus, and nitric nitrogen were the principle factors affecting roots uptake of arsenic, zinc, cadmium, and lead. Biochar soluble salts could decline availability of metals/metalloids in soils through precipitation. Wheat-derived biochar application is an alternative safe product to immobilize PHE in rice paddy soils by restricting the risk of PHE. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The AHA has recently introduced a novel metric, Life's Essential 8, to assess cardiovascular health (CVH). Nevertheless, the association between varying levels of LE8 and the propensity for CKD is still unclear from a large prospective cohort. Our objective is to meticulously examine the relationship between LE8 and its associated susceptibilities to CKD., Methods: A total of 251,825 participants free of CKD from the UK Biobank were included. Cardiovascular health was scored using LE8 and categorized as low, moderate, and high. Cox proportional hazard models were employed to evaluate the associations of LE8 scores with new-onset CKD. The genetic risk score for CKD was calculated by a weighted method., Results: Over a median follow-up of 12.8 years, we meticulously documented 10,124 incident cases of CKD. Remarkably, an increased LE8 score correlated with a significant reduction of risk in new-onset CKD (high LE8 score vs. low LE8 score: HR = 0.300, 95% CI 0.270-0.330, p < 0.001; median LE8 score vs. low LE8 score: HR = 0.531, 95% CI 0.487-0.580, p < 0.001). This strong LE8-CKD association remained robust in extensive subgroup assessments and sensitivity analysis. Additionally, these noteworthy associations between LE8 scores and CKD remained unaffected by genetic predispositions to CKD., Conclusions: An elevated degree of CVH, as delineated by the discerning metric LE8, exhibited a pronounced and statistically significant correlation with a marked reduction in the likelihood of CKD occurrence., (© 2023. Background: It remains unclear whether triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a surrogate marker of insulin resistance, is prospectively associated with incident peripheral arterial disease (PAD)., Methods: We included 12,320 Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study participants (aged 54.3 ± 5.7 years) free of a history of PAD at baseline (visit 1: 1987-1989). The TyG index was determined using ln (fasting triglycerides [mg/dL] × fasting glucose [mg/dL]/2), and measured at 5 visits between 1987 and 2013. Incident PAD was defined as the first hospitalization with PAD diagnosis or a new onset of measured ABI < 0.90 during follow-up visits. We quantified the association of both baseline and trajectories of TyG index with incident PAD using Cox regression and logistic regression analysis, respectively., Results: Over a median follow-up of 23 years, 1300 participants developed PAD. After adjustment for traditional PAD risk factors, each 1-SD (0.58) increase in TyG index was associated with an 11.9% higher risk of incident PAD [hazard ratio, 1.119 (95% CI, 1.049-1.195)]. Results were similar when individuals were categorized by TyG index quartiles [hazard ratio, 1.239 (95% CI, 1.028-1.492); comparing extreme quartiles]. Four distinct trajectories of stable TyG indexes at various levels along the follow-up duration were identified [low (22.2%), moderate (43.2%), high (27.5%), and very high (7.1%) trajectory groups]. Compared with those with a TyG index trajectory at a low level, those participants with TyG index trajectories at high and very high levels had an even greater risk of future incident PAD [odds ratio (95%CI): 1.404 (1.132-1.740) and 1.742 (1.294-2.344), respectively] after multivariate adjustments for traditional PAD risk factors., Conclusions: Higher TyG index is independently associated with an increased risk of incident PAD.
