The author argues that the U.S. government should spend more money on infrastructure to mitigate the damage caused by storms such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and describes the benefits of corporate and tax funding for projects such as replacing gas pipelines, maintaining copper-wire telephone systems, and improving tree trimming near power lines. The efforts of governors Andrew Cuomo from New York and Chris Christie from New Jersey to rebuild areas damaged by the storm are discussed, and repairs to infrastructure such as highways, dams, and sewer lines are described.
