The article presents a study which investigates the causes for the hospitalization of children afflicted with community-acquired pneumonia in the U.S. Topics include a description of the surveillance method employed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to obtain the required population data for the study, the use of the boot strap statistical methods, and the high incidence of Mycoplasma pneumonie among children 5 years of age or older.
