The article deals with the vocal training of U.S. singer Paul Robeson. The so-called dean of American music critics, W. J. Henderson declared Robeson as a master of the art of singing. According to the author, Robeson's wife referred to his training as voice-help as he sought out occasional tutelage on a need-to-know basis instead of having a traditional academy-based training. Other topics include Robeson's repertoire, classification of his voice and whether politics influenced his singing.
