Public health campaigns have the potential to correct vaping misperceptions. However, campaigns highlighting vaping harms to youth may increase misperceptions that vaping is equally/more harmful than smoking. Vaping campaigns have been implemented in the United States and Canada since 2018 and in England since 2017 but with differing focus: youth vaping prevention (United States/Canada) and smoking cessation (England). We therefore examined country differences and trends in noticing vaping campaigns among youth and, using 2022 data only, perceived valence of campaigns and associations with harm perceptions. Seven repeated cross-sectional surveys of 16-19 year-olds in United States, Canada and England (2018-2022, n = 92 339). Over half of youth reported noticing vaping campaigns, and noticing increased from August 2018 to February 2020 (United States: 55.2% to 74.6%, AOR = 1.21, 95% CI = 1.18-1.24; Canada: 52.6% to 64.5%, AOR = 1.13, 1.11-1.16; England: 48.0% to 53.0%, AOR = 1.05, 1.02-1.08) before decreasing (Canada) or plateauing (England/United States) to August 2022. Increases were most pronounced in the United States, then Canada. Noticing was most common on websites/social media, school and television/radio. In 2022 only, most campaigns were perceived to negatively portray vaping and this was associated with accurately perceiving vaping as less harmful than smoking among youth who exclusively vaped (AOR = 1.46, 1.09-1.97). Consistent with implementation of youth vaping prevention campaigns in the United States and Canada, most youth reported noticing vaping campaigns/messages, and most were perceived to negatively portray vaping.

This paper reports on the first stage of an international study addressing the future of secondary school music education. Some music educators have asked if school is the right place for music education, and the music education literature continually calls music curricula and pedagogy to account for its apparent shortcomings, while contemporary education literature criticises education generally for its lack of responsiveness to our changing world. Within this discursive context this study adopts the Delphi method, creating a 'virtual' panel of internationally drawn experts, to collectively consider secondary school music's apparent direction. We utilise concepts from Legitimation Code Theory to frame initial findings from interviewing nine leading music education experts about their current concerns and their vision for secondary school music. The variety of responses in relation to purpose, knowledge, pedagogy, and structures suggest fundamental tensions in conceptualising secondary school music education's direction and future.

Socialization research suggests that most students who enter physical education teacher education (PETE) programs are successful athletes who wish to teach and coach in a manner similar to what they experienced. Exposure to different methods of instruction during undergraduate experiences is often disregarded when they enter into teaching. What strategies can be employed to help facilitate the actual use of different approaches in student teaching and beyond? A great deal has been written about teaching games from a tactical, understanding approach as an alternative to teaching games from a traditional, technique-based approach. This article expands this discussion to examine ways in which PETE undergraduates can be supported so that their use of the tactical approach becomes more likely. The authors believe that PETE students should be exposed to the tactical approach to teaching games through a games classification course, activity courses, teaching methods courses, and a major's club. They should also be given the opportunity (and be expected) to use the approach in early field experiences and student teaching. University supervisors and cooperating teachers in schools need to be educated in the use and interpretation of the approach.

Abstract: With a wide range of injuries in youth baseball, and more than 12 million amateur baseball players in the United States, a comprehensive list of tests and measures may be helpful to assess strength, mobility, and motor control throughout the kinetic chain to reduce risk of injury in this population. Many studies have looked at youth baseball players using a single test or a small number of tests to determine the prevalence of specific injuries in youth baseball, but to this author's knowledge, there is no comprehensive musculoskeletal screen published at this time specific to youth baseball. The purpose of this article is to review literature published over the last year relative to injury in youth and adolescent baseball players in an effort to update the reader on current concepts, risk factors in this population, and to provide an updated systematic screening process that may be used in reducing injury rates. Background: Lung cancer is prevalent worldwide, with 2.1 million new cases and 1.8 million deaths in 2020. In the United States, an estimated 131 880 lung cancer deaths are expected to occur in 2021, with most detected in later stages. Smokers are 15 to 30 times more likely to develop or die from lung cancer. Local Problem: Our community residents were more likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer in later stages (62%) compared with 56% nationally, resulting in an increased community mortality rate. Intervention: Evidence-based changes in an electronic health record system supported identification and referral of high-risk patients for low-dose computer tomography to improve early lung cancer detection rates. Results: Early-stage lung cancer detection increased 24%. Conclusions: Interprofessional teams used technology to adopt evidence-based practice and improve health outcomes in their communities. Built on 1,500 acres of land reclaimed from the Yellow Sea off Incheon, about 35 miles from South Korea's capital, New Songdo City is billed as the largest private real-estate development in history. It is Korea's answer to Shanghai and Dubai. Estimates put the cost of the Songdo project, which is barely five years old, at up to $60-billion. The city's centerpiece is Songdo Global University Campus, a collaborative attempt to blend Korean, American, and European academic strengths. The founders broke ground in May and at least two American partners, North Carolina State University and the State University New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook have each received $1-million in planning money to help develop undergraduate programs. Both colleges view Songdo as a local recruitment hub. SUNY at Stony Brook currently attracts 2,000 students from Asia. The model for the Global University Campus is similar to Qatar's Education City, in which American universities will offer undergraduate programs inside a single campus, while administering them separately. Campus developers predict it will enroll 12,000 students by 2012. SUNY at Stony Brook will initially offer four undergraduate engineering programs, along with a business and a technology-management program. Students will be given an opportunity to study at the U.S. campus as well. Several more partners, including the University of Delaware, the University of Southern California, and George Mason University have signed agreements to start faculty and student exchanges, and, eventually, collaborative research projects. Moscow State University, Glion Institute of Higher Education, in Switzerland; the University of Surrey, in England; and Monash University, in Australia, have also been linked by the Korean media to the project. Songdo's American partners say that despite the potential difficulties, they are in for the long haul.

Background: In Detroit, Michigan, 85% of HIV cases are among African American youth. Approximately 53.4% of African American high school females have had sexual intercourse; 44.7% did not use a condom during the last sexual encounter. School-based sexual health education may be limited regarding HIV prevention. Sexual health education that is culturally and gender-specific is needed to provide knowledge that may impact condom self-efficacy and address the HIV epidemic among African American adolescents in Detroit. Community-based organizations may be used to implement an evidence-based educational intervention. Methods: A 1-group, pretest/posttest design was used to evaluate knowledge of HIV and condom use among 11 African American adolescent females who participated in an evidence-based intervention, Sisters Informing Healing Living Empowering (SIHLE), during 3-hr sessions over 4 consecutive Saturdays. There was 100% attendance among participants for all sessions. Knowledge of HIV and condom use was measured with a 16-item true/ false survey before and after the intervention. Results: A significant difference between HIV knowledge at pretest and HIV knowledge at posttest was noted, z 5 22.322, p 5 .02. Conclusion: Nurses and community stakeholders can be instrumental in addressing the HIV epidemic by implementing evidence-based interventions that increase knowledge of HIV prevention and condom use.
