The article discusses U.S. artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens' creation of a statue of U.S. Civil War naval officer David Glasgow Farragut. Emphasis is given to Saint-Gaudens' time spent living in Paris, France, as his inspiration for the monument came from his viewing of a bronze sculpture created by artist Paul Dubois at the 1867 Exposition Universelle.
