The halo ion trap (IT) was modified to allow for axial ion ejection through slits machined in the ceramic electrode plates rather than ejecting ions radially to a center hole in the plates. This was done to preserve a more uniform electric field for ion analysis. An in-depth evaluation of the higher-order electric field components in the trap was also performed to improve resolution. The linear, cubic and quintic (5th order) electric field components for each electrode ring inside the IT were calculated using SIMION (SIMION version 8, Scientific Instrument Services, Ringoes, NJ, USA) simulations. The preferred electric fields with higher-order components were implemented experimentally by first calculating the potential on each electrode ring of the halo IT and then soldering appropriate capacitors between rings without changing the original trapping plate design. The performance of the halo IT was evaluated for 1% to 7% cubic electric field ( A/ A) component. A best resolution of 280 ( m/Δ m) for the 51-Da fragment ion of benzene was observed with 5% cubic electric field component. Background: With the rising prevalence of abdominal radical hysterectomy, the need for perioperative blood transfusion has emerged as a significant clinical challenge. Independent risk factors for blood transfusion during abdominal radical hysterectomy remains limited, and identifying these factors is needed., Methods: A retrospective analysis of data was performed using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS), focusing on patients who underwent abdominal radical hysterectomy between 2010 and 2019. Patients were categorized into two groups based on whether they received a blood transfusion. The analysis encompassed various demographic factors, including race, sex, and age, as well as length of stay (LOS), total hospitalization charges, hospital characteristics (admission type, insurance type, bed size, teaching status, geographic location, and hospital region), hospital mortality rates, comorbidities, and perioperative complications. Subsequently, both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to ascertain factors associated with abdominal radical hysterectomy patients requiring blood transfusions., Results: Blood transfusions occurred in 14.84% of patients between 2010 and 2019, with a downward trend over time. Receiving a transfusion was associated with several negative outcomes, including a longer length of stay, higher total charges, and complications like thrombocytopenia, acute myocardial infarction, pneumonia, and so on. Additionally, patients who received transfusions were more likely to experience postoperative delirium, deep vein thrombosis, and wound infection. Independent risk factors for blood transfusion include Black race, Asian or Pacific Islander race, non-elective surgery, hospitalization in a rural setting, pre-existing medical conditions like coagulopathy, chronic blood loss anemia, deficiency anemia and others. Conversely, patients with private insurance, residing in the West, or Midwest/North Central regions were less likely to require a blood transfusion., Conclusion: Our study highlights the concern of perioperative blood transfusion in radical hysterectomy, linked to significant complications. There is a wide concern that emerging organic pollutants (EOPs) in surface water could adversely affect human health and wildlife. However, the geographic distribution, exposure pattern and ecological risk of emerging organic pollutants are poorly understood at a global scale. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on the exposure level of EOPs in China, the US and the EU based on the published literature. The hazard level of three categories of EOPs, namely pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), pesticides and industrial chemicals was further evaluated by adopting a novel Aquatic HazPi index that jointly accounts for the persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity and bioactivity. Furthermore, a correlation analysis of land use with the surface water exposure status regarding the synthetic chemicals was conducted. According to the published data reported between 2010 and 2016, the concentration of pesticides in the US was higher than in the EU and China. The concentration of PPCPs in the EU was generally lower than in both the US and China, while the concentration of industrial chemicals in China was higher than in the EU and the US. Among the chemicals whose median concentration in surface water was >10 ng/L, the antiretroviral Efavirenz, the pesticide Fipronil, and octocrylene, an industrial chemical and cosmetic ingredient, were found with the highest aquatic HazPi value. Lastly, the spatial distribution and concentration of hazardous EOPs was shown to depend on local landscape and land usages. The purpose of this study is to examine and compare the US and Chinese Bachelor of Nursing students' beliefs about prognosis and long-term outcomes for people with depression and schizophrenia following interventions. A total of 310 nursing students in the US (n = 152) and China (n = 158) completed a survey questionnaire between April 2016 and April 2017. Overall, the Chinese students rated prognosis and outcomes more negatively than did the US students. The main finding suggests the need for cultural-specific pedagogical considerations to be given to mental health education in undergraduate nursing curricula in the US and China., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc.
