In this chapter, the application of life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) on optimising and selecting the most appropriate stabiliser and stabilisation method is discussed through a new conceptual engineering-economic model. In this new LCCA model analysis, agency, user and other costs are addressed. The model is demonstrated and validated through two case studies on low-volume roads (LVRs): one from Italy and the other from the United States. Results from both the case studies demonstrated that under specific boundary conditions, soil stabilisation can play an important role, merging the environmental and the mechanical effectiveness of LVRs.
