Background: Cluster headache (CH) is associated with high disability. The Cluster Headache Impact Questionnaire (CHIQ) is a short, disease-specific disability questionnaire first developed and validated in German. Here, we validated the English version of this questionnaire. Methods: The CHIQ was assessed together with nonspecific headache-related disability questionnaires in CH patients from a tertiary headache center and an American self-help group. Results: 155 active episodic and chronic CH patients were included. The CHIQ showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.93, n = 44). Factor analysis identified a single factor. Convergent validity was shown by significant correlations with the Headache Impact Test™ (HIT-6™, ρ = 0.72, p < 0.001), the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS depression: ρ = 0.53, HADS anxiety: ρ = 0.61, both p < 0.001), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10, ρ = 0.61, p < 0.001) and with CH attack frequency (ρ = 0.29, p < 0.001). Chronic CH patients showed the highest CHIQ scores (25.4 ± 7.9, n = 76), followed by active episodic CH and episodic CH patients in remission (active eCH: 22.2 ± 8.7, n = 79; eCH in remission: 14.1 ± 13.1, n = 127; p < 0.001). Furthermore, the CHIQ was graded into 5 levels from "no to low impact" to "extreme impact" based on the patients' perception. Higher CHIQ grading was associated with higher attack and acute medication frequency, HIT-6™, HADS and PSS scores. Although fibromyalgia is a widespread chronic pain condition where 90 percent of patients are women, they are underrepresented in Randomized Clinical Trials (RCTs). We aim to describe the willingness to participate, assess different factors, and explore the impact of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics on perceived barriers to trial participation. This is a cross-sectional survey targeting women with fibromyalgia. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were performed. Of the 436 women with fibromyalgia, 56 percent were very likely to participate in RCTs. Minorities expressed less interest than non-minorities, while higher pain scores, previous participation, and younger patients reported a higher interest. Barriers significantly associated with a reduced willingness were: the participant's perception (side effects, distance, potential negative impact), the center (reputation), the trial protocol (number of visits, placebo), and trial awareness by their physician. In a multivariate analysis, older age, low education, lower income, and higher pain scores were associated with perceived barriers to RCT participation. Despite the high interest to participate, factors such as side effects, the center's distance, number of visits, placebo treatments, and the institution's reputation must be considered in clinical trials for women with fibromyalgia. Introduction: Only 9.9% of practicing urologists in the United States are women. This percentage is even smaller in leadership positions and high-ranking appointments. Endourology is one of the least reported fellowships completed by women urologists. We sought to evaluate how endourologists perceived the climate for women physicians and compare perceptions and experiences of gender equity. Materials and Methods: An IRB approved and validated survey, Culture Conducive to Women's Academic Success (CCWAS) questionnaire was sent out to the Endourological Society listserve. Subcategories of equal access, work-life balance, freedom of gender bias, and leadership support were analyzed. An open comment section was provided for respondents to include their own experiences. Wilcoxon rank-sum and Kruskal–Wallis tests were used to compare CCWAS scores between groups. Results: A total of 104 completed surveys were received. Response rate was 7% (104/1492), 26.9% of which were female. There was a statistically significant difference between male and female respondent CCWAS scores; p < 0.05. The male CCWAS score median was 196.0 (interquartile range [IQR] 176.75–214.0) vs female CCWAS score median of 166.5 (IQR 127.5–210.0). There was no significant difference in CCWAS scores based on years in practice, parental status, or academic vs private practice. Discussion: In this study, male endourologists' perceptions of gender equity were incongruent with the reported experiences of their female colleagues. This indicates that male respondents perceive the culture in their department toward women more positively than their female colleagues. Background: Previous research has extensively documented the impact of migraine episodes ('ictal') on patients' health-related quality of life. Few studies have looked at the impact of migraine on migraine-free days ('interictal'). This study was designed to describe interictal burden of migraine in a mixed group of people affected by migraine and to explore patient characteristics associated with interictal burden. Methods: People with migraine in the United States (US) and Germany were recruited for a cross-sectional online survey, including a subgroup treated with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) monoclonal antibody (mAb). The survey included the Migraine Interictal Burden Scale (MIBS-4), Headache Impact Test (HIT-6), and items measuring patient demographics, clinical and treatment background. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression. Results: Five hundred six people with migraine completed the survey (US: n = 257; Germany: n = 249), of whom 195 had taken a CGRP mAb for three or more months. Participants had a mean of 8.5 (SD = 6.4) Monthly Migraine Days (MMD) and 10.4 (SD = 7.1) Monthly Headache Days (MHD). The mean MIBS-4 score was 6.3 (SD = 3.4), with 67% reporting severe interictal burden (MIBS-4: ≥5). The mean HIT-6 score was 65.3 (SD = 6.0), with 86% reporting severe migraine impact (HIT-6: ≥60). MIBS-4 was correlated with the HIT-6 (r = 0.37), MMD and MHD (both r = 0.27). The HIT-6, MMD, MHD, CGRP mAb treatment, and depression all had an independent positive association with the MIBS-4. Conclusion: Two-thirds of the study sample reported substantial interictal burden. Whilst interictal burden was associated with migraine frequency and impact of migraine attacks, study results also show it represented a distinct aspect of the overall disease burden. Study findings further indicate unique associations between interictal burden and depression. Summary: In German, the 'Aging Males' Symptom Scale (AMS)' is available for the assessment of symptoms of hypogonadism in men of advanced age. An English questionnaire named 'Hypogonadism Impact of Symptoms' (HIS‐Q), applicable also in young males has recently been developed in the United States. We intended to: (1) evaluate the psychometric properties of the German translation of the short form of the HIS‐Q (HIS‐Q‐SF‐D); (2) explore the association of individual patient scores with their respective serum testosterone levels. The HIS‐Q‐SF‐D was completed by 174 men attending an Andrology outpatient clinic. Test–retest reliability was excellent, with high test–retest correlations (r = 0.883) and Cronbach's Alpha of 0.948 for the total score. Convergent validity was supported by high Spearman's correlation between the HIS‐Q‐SF‐D total score and the AMS total score (r = 0.817); also by the significant differences in the HIS‐Q‐SF‐domain scores between males with total testosterone levels above and below 12 nmol/l. Therefore, the HIS‐Q‐SF‐D shows good psychometric properties. As shown by the ROC‐analyses for testosterone above and below levels of 12 nmol/l, the HIS‐Q‐SF‐D cannot replace testosterone measurement for the establishment of the diagnosis of male hypogonadism. Purpose: We describe patterns of care and treatment outcomes for non-metastatic PCa (nmPCA), either hormone-sensitive or castration-resistant, in the United States of America (USA) in 2018. Methods: A survey (CancerMPact®) recruited physicians nationwide to answer an online questionnaire about how they treated patients with nmPCA. Questions covered aspects of treatment at all disease stages. Board-certified urologists and oncologists with at least five years of clinical practice and who treated at least 30 PCa patients monthly were included. Results: The survey included responses from ninety-four physicians with an average of 17.5 years of clinical practice, who had treated a combined average of 4415 patients with nmPCA per month in 2018. Approximately 40% of patients in stage I were managed with either active surveillance or observation/no therapy, decreasing to 20%, 8% and 6% in stages II, III and IV(M0), respectively. Intensity-modulated radiotherapy was favored over other radiotherapy modalities, with rates of use ranging between 60% and 69% depending on disease stage. Leuprolide as monotherapy or in combination with enzalutamide, abiraterone or bicalutamide were the most common systemic treatment options for non-metastatic hormone-sensitive PCa (nmHSPC) patients with the first or second recurrence. Only 16.5% of non-metastatic castration-resistant PCa (nmCRPC) patients did not relapse within five years of initial therapy for nmCRPC. Conclusion: While PCa treatment recommendations are rapidly changing due to advances in treatment, we observed great concordance between their most current versions and real-world data treatment patterns reported by US physicians. People regulate both negative and positive emotions, and their ability to do this successfully is a cornerstone of adaptive psychological functioning. However, few measures have been available to assess emotion regulation ability across both valence domains. The Perth Emotion Regulation Competency Inventory (PERCI) was recently developed for this purpose. Here we present the first psychometric study of the PERCI in the United States (N = 508). Confirmatory factor analyses supported the intended eight-factor structure, which was invariant across age, gender, and education. PERCI scores had high internal consistency, and were associated with measures of psychopathology, emotional reactivity, and emotion regulation strategies in expected ways. These observed relationships between the PERCI and various regulation strategies may serve to establish a profile of what strategy patterns characterize differences in emotion regulation ability. Background: Family caregivers of persons with dementia often feel unprepared for end-of-life and preparedness predicts caregiver outcomes in bereavement. Existing questionnaires assessing preparedness have limitations. A multi-dimensional questionnaire assessing family caregiver preparedness for the end-of-life of persons with dementia is needed to identify caregivers at risk for negative outcomes in bereavement and evaluate the quality of strategies within a palliative approach. Aim: To develop a multi-dimensional questionnaire titled 'Caring Ahead' to assess feelings of preparedness for end-of-life in family caregivers of persons with dementia. Design: A mixed methods, sequential design employed semi-structured interviews, a Delphi-survey and pilot-testing of the questionnaire, June 2018 to July 2019. Setting/population: Participants included five current and 16 bereaved family caregivers of persons with symptoms advanced dementia from long-term care homes in Ontario, Canada; and 12 professional experts from clinical and academic settings in Canada, Europe, United States. Results: Interviews generated three core concepts and 114 indicators of preparedness sampling cognitive, affective and behavioural traits in four domains (i.e., medical, psychosocial, spiritual, practical). Indicators were translated and reduced to a pool of 73 potential questionnaire items. 30-items were selected to create the 'Caring Ahead' preparedness questionnaire through a Delphi-survey. Items were revised through a pilot-test with cognitive interviewing. Conclusions: Family caregivers' feelings of preparedness for end-of-life need to be assessed and the quality of strategies within a palliative approach evaluated. Background: Several measures have been developed to examine acute psychedelic effects (e.g. mystical-type and challenging experiences), but no measure assesses acute psychologically insightful experiences that may occur during psychedelic experiences. Aim: The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the psychometric properties of the Psychological Insight Questionnaire. Method: A cross-sectional survey study among psilocybin and LSD users. Respondents (n =1661; M age=22.9, standard deviation=8.5; Caucasian/White=83%; non-Hispanic=91%; men=72%; United States resident=66%) completed an Internet-based survey. Results: The Psychological Insight Questionnaire consists of 23 items with two subscales: (a) Avoidance and Maladaptive Patterns Insights and (b) Goals and Adaptive Patterns Insights. Construct validity of the Psychological Insight Questionnaire was supported by strong correlations of the Psychological Insight Questionnaire (and Avoidance and Maladaptive Patterns Insights and Goals and Adaptive Patterns Insights subscales) scores with the insight subscale of the Session Impacts Scale, and weak-to-moderate correlations with the Mystical Experiences and Challenging Experiences Questionnaires. Furthermore, Psychological Insight Questionnaire (and Avoidance and Maladaptive Patterns Insights and Goals and Adaptive Patterns Insights subscales) scores were moderately-to-strongly correlated with retrospectively reported increases in psychological flexibility, and well-being/life satisfaction that were attributed to a memorable psychedelic experience. Lastly, incremental validity was established showing that the Psychological Insight Questionnaire (and Avoidance and Maladaptive Patterns Insights subscale) scores predict unique variance in changes in psychological flexibility, and Psychological Insight Questionnaire (and Avoidance and Maladaptive Patterns Insights and Goals and Adaptive Patterns Insights subscales) scores predict changes in well-being and life satisfaction, beyond measures of acute mystical-type and challenging effects. Conclusions: The Psychological Insight Questionnaire has the potential to extend the understanding of the acute and enduring effects of psychedelics. Further longitudinal research is necessary to determine the long-term predictive validity of the Psychological Insight Questionnaire and to examine the role of psychological insight in predicting therapeutic outcomes. Background: Unmet need for health care is defined as choosing to postpone or completely avoid necessary medical treatment despite having a need for it, which can worsen current conditions or contribute to new health problems. The emerging infodemic can be a barrier that prevents people from accessing quality health information, contributing to lower levels of seeking medical care when needed., Objective: We evaluated the association between perceptions of health mis- and disinformation on social media and unmet need for health care. In addition, we evaluated mechanisms for this relationship, including frequency of social media use, medical trust, and medical care discrimination., Methods: Data from 3964 active adult social media users responding to the 2022 Health Information National Trends Survey 6 (HINTS 6), a nationally representative survey, were analyzed. The outcome was unmet need for medical care, defined as delaying or not getting the necessary medical care. The predictor variables were perception of social media health mis- and disinformation, frequency of social media use, level of trust in the health care system, and perceived racial and ethnic discrimination when receiving health care., Results: Multivariable logistic regression models indicated that perception of substantial social media health mis- and disinformation (odds ratio [OR] 1.40, 95% CI 1.07-1.82), daily use of social media (OR 1.34, 95% CI 1.01-1.79), low medical trust (OR 1.46, 95% CI 1.06-2.01), and perceived discrimination (OR 2.24, 95% CI 1.44-3.50) were significantly associated with a higher likelihood of unmet need for medical care. Unmet need among adults who did not use social media daily and who did not perceive substantial mis- and disinformation (24%; 95% CI 19%-30%) was lower compared to daily social media users who perceived substantial mis- and disinformation (38%; 95% CI 32%-43%). Adults who perceived substantial mis- and disinformation and had low trust in health care had the highest probability of reporting unmet need (43%; 95% CI 38%-49%) compared to the other three groups. Adults who perceived substantial mis- and disinformation and experienced medical care discrimination had a statistically significant higher probability of reporting unmet need (51%; 95% CI 40%-62%) compared to adults who did not experience medical care discrimination and did not perceive substantial mis- and disinformation (29%; 95% CI 26%-32%)., Conclusions: Unmet need for medical care was higher among individuals who perceived a substantial degree of social media mis- and disinformation, especially among those who used social media daily, did not trust the health care system, and experienced racial or ethnic discrimination when receiving health care. In the United States and internationally, there has been an increased emphasis on the practice turn or a focus on engaging students in more authentic representations of how science is practiced. In this article, we describe the development of a student questionnaire to investigate the extent to which students report being engaged in learning experiences similar to those explicated through the practice turn. We developed a questionnaire that consisted of 35 questions that were separated into four constructs. The questionnaire was determined to be internally consistent, with a high reliability estimate. Confirmatory factor analysis showed item clustering consistent with the research‐derived constructs indicative of a practice turn focus in science classrooms. Furthermore, early evidence from this pilot study is provided to reveal the ability of the questionnaire to detect student experiences that are differentiated at the teacher‐level. Based on the analyses completed, the questionnaire appears to be a needed and useful measure of student‐reported learning experiences that can provide an indication of students' opportunity to learn in ways aligned to the most recent reforms in science education. Rationale: Several new drugs for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) are in development. Tools are needed to assess whether these drugs benefit patients on outcomes that matter most to them. Health-related quality of life (HRQL) is one such outcome. It is influenced by many factors, but symptoms and their impacts are two strong drivers.Objectives: To develop a questionnaire to assess symptoms, disease impacts, and HRQL specifically for patients with IPF.Methods: Working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration through the Drug Development Tool Qualification process, focus groups, concept elicitation, and cognitive debriefing interviews were conducted to inform the development of a 44-item pilot questionnaire. The pilot paper-and-pen questionnaire was migrated to an equivalent electronic version and field-tested in a 14-day study. Response data were subjected to psychometric testing, including exploratory factor analysis, item calibration using item response theory models, test-retest reliability, and validity testing.Measurements and Main Results: A total of 125 patients with IPF (62.4% men) completed the longitudinal study. The mean ± SD age of the cohort was 69 ± 7.60 years, and the mean FVC% predicted was 71 ± 20.0. After factor and item analyses, 35 items were retained, and these comprise the two modules (symptoms and impacts) of the Living with IPF (L-IPF) questionnaire. The L-IPF yields five scales demonstrating good psychometric properties, including correlation with concurrently collected FVC% predicted and the ability to discriminate between patients with differing levels of IPF severity.Conclusions: The L-IPF is a new questionnaire that assesses symptoms, disease impacts, and HRQL in patients with IPF. Vulvodynia is defined as vulvar pain of at least 3 months duration without a clear identifiable cause. There are currently no validated questionnaires that assess the experience of women with localized vulvodynia of the vestibule (vestibulodynia, previously known as vulvar vestibulitis) that meet the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration's Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) Guidance. To develop a new content-valid PRO assessment in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration's PRO guidance to assess the symptoms and impacts of localized vulvodynia. Participants were recruited for concept elicitation interviews (ie, interviews with open-ended questions with the goal of eliciting volunteered data about the symptoms and impacts of vulvodynia). Participants were identified as having localized vulvodynia by clinicians who were experts in treating vulvar disorders. Eligibility was confirmed by the recruiting clinician, and informed consent was obtained; participants were then scheduled for in-person interviews. 25 participants were interviewed from United States (US). After concept elicitation interviews, the draft Vulvodynia Experience Questionnaire (VEQ) was developed based on the results. Cognitive interviews were conducted with 20 participants from US sites to assess the content validity of the VEQ (eg, interpretation and clarity of the items, relevance of concepts). The VEQ was further revised after cognitive interviews. All interviews were conducted face-to-face, audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, anonymized, and analyzed using a qualitative data analysis software program. 17 unique symptoms and 32 unique impacts were reported during concept elicitation interviews. Pain (n = 25, 100%) and burning (n = 24, 96%) were the most frequently reported symptoms of localized vulvodynia, and negative impact on emotional well-being (n = 25, 100%) was the most frequently reported impact. After analysis, item generation, and cognitive interviews, the resulting VEQ v2.0 contains 3 parts (part 1, pain; part 2, associated symptoms; part 3, impacts) with a total of 25 items that measure the most frequently reported symptoms and impacts of localized vulvodynia. The VEQ is a multidimensional assessment of the core symptoms and impacts of localized vulvodynia that, after additional psychometric testing including the ability to detect change, may be used in clinical trials to characterize the benefits of novel treatments. The VEQ requires additional testing to establish its cultural relevance and linguistic validity in other countries. Background: Acromegaly patients managed on Somatostatin receptor ligands (SRLs), the most common first-line pharmacotherapy for acromegaly, may still experience acromegaly symptoms such as headache, sweating, fatigue, soft tissue swelling, and joint pain, even those with normal IGF-1. Additionally, treatment with SRLs may cause injection site reactions and other side effects such as gastro-intestinal (GI) symptoms. This study utilized patient-reported outcome measures to examine the burden associated with acromegaly and its treatment for patients receiving a stable dose of long-acting SRLs in routine clinical practice. Methods: US acromegaly patients on a stable dose of SRL seen by their treating healthcare provider in the past 12 months completed a one-time online survey including the Acro-TSQ, an acromegaly-specific tool for assessing symptom burden and treatment satisfaction and convenience. Results: One hundred five patients were enrolled (mean age 49.9 years, 79.1% female). Patients experienced numerous symptoms, including > 80% who experienced joint pain, acro-fog, swelling of soft tissue, and fatigue/weakness. Many symptoms occurred constantly, while some occurred at the end of the injection cycle, even among those with IGF-1 < = 1.0 ULN. Injection site reactions were common. Patients were moderately satisfied with their current treatment; symptoms and side effects often affected daily activities. On average, patients reported > 3 acromegaly provider visits/year. Conclusions: Despite receiving a stable dose of SRL and regular visits with an acromegaly healthcare provider, US acromegaly patients in routine clinical practice, and even the subgroup with normal IGF-1, report significant burden of disease and treatment. Background: Although the incidence, severity and mortality of Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI) have been increasing, patients' quality of life changes resulting from CDI have not been studied thoroughly. This study aimed at exploring the consequences of CDI on quality of life through patients' perspective. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study involving 350 participants with a self-reported CDI diagnosis was conducted through an online self-administered survey. Participants were grouped into those who had active disease ("Current CDI") and those who had a history of CDI ("Past CDI"). Results: One hundred fifteen participants (33%) reported Current CDI and 235 (67%) reported Past CDI. A large majority of participants admitted that their daily activities were impacted by the infection (93.9% and 64.7% of Current and Past CDI respondents respectively, p < 0.05). Physical and psychological consequences of CDI were experienced by 63.5% and 66.1% of participants with active CDI. Despite the infection being cleared, these consequences were still frequently experienced in Past CDI cohort with similar rates (reported by 73.2% of respondents for both, physical consequences p = 0.08; psychological consequences p = 0.21). After the infection, 56.6% of respondents noted that post-CDI symptoms remained; 40.9% believed they would never get rid of them. Conclusions: While the societal burden of CDI is well described in the literature, our study is one of the first aimed at understanding the major burden of CDI on quality of life. Objective  Elective lumbar and cervical operations are becoming more common in the United States. Additionally, there is a movement in the literature and clinical practice to discover short versions of longer measures as a way to anticipate an outcome. This study aims to provide neurosurgeons in practice with a three-item questionnaire that can guide referrals to psychological services presurgery. Ultimately, results could lead to an improvement in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) postspinal surgery. Methods  This quantitative-descriptive, survey-based design with a retrospective chart review component followed 47 patients at baseline (N = 47), 3 months (N = 20), 6 months (N = 31), and 1 year (N = 19). A single item from the Coping Strategies Questionnaire, the Survey of Pain Attitudes, and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia were utilized in the three-item questionnaire as a baseline measure. Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Global Health measured HRQoL outcome at all time points. A linear regression model was conducted to predict mental health QoL postspinal surgery. Results  This measure can predict mental health QoL outcomes up to 3-month postsurgery. Six-month and 1-year follow-ups are statistically inconclusive. Conclusion  Individuals who are undergoing spinal surgery show lower mental health QoL outcome at baseline and 3-month postsurgery when responses on a three-item questionnaire are elevated. To assess whether feeding questionnaire responses reflect observed mealtime behavior. Cross-sectional associations between self-reported and observed behaviors. Participants' homes. Parents (n = 75) of toddlers (mean age = 24.7 months) in the US. Feeding behavior questionnaires and coded videos of children's dinner meals. Parents' questionnaire responses of "never" (or "rarely") considered consistent with video observation if behavior was not observed; responses of "always" (or "most of the time") if behavior observed at least once. Proportion (%) of participants observed performing each behavior was calculated for the groups of parents reporting that they "never," "sometimes," or "always" used that feeding practice. These were compared across the 3 response groups. Parents reported 6 behaviors consistently (≥70% agreement): allowing child to eat as much as wanted, helping child eat, prompting child to eat, television/screens on during meal, nonfood rewards, and hurrying child. The remaining 8 behaviors fell below the threshold. For many behaviors, all response groups (never, sometimes, always) had similar rates of participants demonstrating the behavior. Only 5 behaviors had observed rates falling in the expected direction (frequency of always > sometimes > never). For some behaviors, the "sometimes" group had a higher (eg, clean plate) or lower (praise) frequency than the other 2 groups. Self-reported questionnaire responses predicted whether some, but not all, behaviors were observed. Parents' use of "sometimes" remains difficult to interpret as parents may use "sometimes" inconsistently across behaviors and perhaps to mitigate socially undesirable responses. Supplemental digital content is available in the text. Purpose: Physical activity and sedentary behavior among diverse Hispanic/Latino youth in the United States is not well documented. The aim of this study was to describe physical activity and sedentary behavior among a representative sample of Hispanic/Latino youth from four US communities using accelerometry and self-reported measures. Methods: From 2012 to 2014, 1466 Hispanic/Latino youth ages 8 to 16 yr, children of participants in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos, enrolled in the SOL youth. Physical activity and sedentary behavior were assessed by interview. After this, youth wore an Actical accelerometer for 1 wk. All statistical analyses accounted for the complex survey design and used sampling weights. Results: The accelerometer wear time adjusted mean minutes per day was: 604.6, sedentary; 178.9, light; 25.4, moderate; and 10.2, vigorous. Generally, higher levels of moderate and vigorous activity occurred among males, Mexican backgrounds, and youth age 8 to 10 yr compared with older age groups. Higher levels of sedentary behavior occurred among youth age 15 to 16 yr compared with younger age groups. The most common activities (reported, ≥1 per month) were of lower intensity, including listening to music (91.9%), homework (87.0%), riding in car/bus (84.3%), and hanging out with friends (83.4%). Common active pursuits included travel by walking (74.6%), physical education class (71.7%), running (71.4%), and recess (71.3%). Conclusions: Time, intensity, and type of physical activity and sedentary behavior varied among Hispanic/Latino youth. Objectives: To translate and validate the Zurich Chronic Middle Ear Inventory (ZCMEI‐21) for the English language in order to provide an English instrument to assess health‐related quality of life in chronic otitis media (COM). Design: Pilot translation study including cognitive debriefings, prospective multicentre cross‐sectional psychometric validation study. Setting: Four tertiary referral centres in three different English‐speaking countries (UK, USA and Australia). Participants: Adult patients suffering from COM. Main outcome measures: The English translation of the ZCMEI‐21 (ZCMEI‐21‐E) and the five‐level version of the EQ‐5D questionnaire. The EQ‐5D, which constitutes a generic measure of health‐related quality of life, consists of a descriptive system score and a visual analogue scale. Statistical outcomes included single‐item descriptive statistics, internal consistency (Cronbach's α) as an indicator of reliability, as well as construct validity. Results: A total of 124 patients suffering from COM were included. The mean age was 50.1 years (SD 16.9 years), and 72 (58.1%) were males. The Cronbach's α of the ZCMEI‐21‐E was 0.91, suggesting an excellent internal consistency. The Spearman's correlation coefficient of the ZCMEI‐21‐E total score was 0.55 (P < 0.0001) for convergent construct validity with EQ‐5D descriptive system score and 0.57 (P < 0.0001) with the EQ‐5D visual analogue scale. Conclusions: The ZCMEI‐21‐E is a new validated questionnaire that provides clinicians with a short, comprehensive and reliable instrument to quantify health‐related quality of life in patients suffering from COM. Abstract The results of this pilot study demonstrate that it is possible to construct a reliable questionnaire from prior validated surveys. This questionnaire displays possible suitability for further development into a tool for a comprehensive dog welfare assessment. The welfare model used is assuming that canine welfare consists of three major considerations, the dogs' behavior, the dogs' quality of life (QoL dog) and the owner's quality of life as pertaining to being a dog owner (QoL Owner). A questionnaire was constructed and tested. Three different parts from reliable and validated sections of previous surveys were included: 1) a modified C-BARQ, 2) QoL for the dog, and 3) QoL owner. 185 satisfactory answers were obtained from the respondents, dog owners in Sweden, Canada and USA. Principal component factor analysis rendered 13 extracted factors similar to the original questionnaires, suggesting that the construct is valid. Eleven of the thirteen factors showed moderate internal consistency of Cronbach's alpha >0.7, the remaining two factors were relatively low with Cronbach's alpha >0.6. Several significant correlations between the extracted factors were found. Quality of life as a dog owner (QoL owner) was significantly affected by stress caused by dogs displaying fear, excitability and separation anxiety. No significant correlations were found between any factors describing aggressive behaviors and the dogs QoL or QoL owner. Several significant correlations were found between the extracted factors and the demographics, for instance, the Swedes are more active with their dogs compared to Americans and Canadians. Recently, empathic concern was separated into the components of sympathy and tenderness (Lishner et al. 2011). So far, these two emotional experiences have been assessed as episodic emotional responses, as the existent dispositional measures remain blind to such distinction. The aim of the present research is to develop and validate a dispositional measure that captures the personal disposition to feel sympathy, tenderness, and personal distress. This new scale is called Sympathy, Tenderness and Distress Dispositional Scale (SyTeD). In Study 1, we developed and tested the internal consistency and factor structure of the English version of the scale in the United States. In Study 2, we translated the scale into Spanish and tested its content and criterion validity in Spain. In Study 3, we tested the predictive validity of the sympathy-tenderness distinction within a helping vs. a care-based scenario in the United Kingdom (SyTeD-English version). In Study 4, we tested the predictive validity of the sympathy-tenderness distinction in a real helping situation in Spain (SyTeD-Spanish version). The results across these four studies suggest that the SyTeD is a useful measure of dispositional sympathy and tenderness that allows studying further different types of prosocial behavior (i.e., help vs. care). Abstract: Objective: The need to consider gender when studying exercise in eating disorder (ED) has been underscored. The study aimed to test the psychometric properties and factor structure of the exercise and eating disorder (EED) questionnaire for males with and without ED, to highlight gender differences, and to explore issues relevant for a male version of the EED questionnaire. Method: This cross sectional study included 258 male participants: 55 ED patients (inpatients and outpatients) and 203 student controls. The patient group consisted of 54.5% (n = 30) with AN, 18.2% (n = 10) with BN, 27.2% (n = 15) with unspecified ED. The ED sample was treated as transdiagnostic in all analyses. t Tests, chi‐square test, correlations analyses, and a principal component analysis were conducted. Results: The analyses confirmed that the EED questionnaire had adequate psychometric properties, and a four‐factor solution: (a) compulsive exercise, (b) positive and healthy exercise, (c) awareness of bodily signals, and (d) weight and shape exercise. The questionnaire discriminated significantly (p < .01– < .001) between patients and controls on the global score, subscales, and 16 out of 18 individual items. Convergent validity was demonstrated by high correlations between the EED questionnaire and the eating disorder examination questionnaire (r = .65). Discussion: The results indicated that the EED questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for males. The widespread occurrence of anthelmintic resistance in equine parasites across the world has led to recommendations of fecal egg count-based parasite programs to reduce treatment intensity and thereby delay further development of resistance as much as possible. The most recent study describing equine parasite control in the United States was conducted 20 years ago, and little is known about current strategies employed. This study was part of the National Animal Health Monitoring Systems (NAHMS) Equine 2015 Study, and aimed to describe equine parasite control strategies in the U.S. and evaluate to which extent respondents were in compliance with current guidelines. The study was carried out in 28 states, representing 70.9% of all equine operations with at least five equids present. Two questionnaires were administered, either by mail or delivered in person by veterinary medical officers. Participants provided specific details of their operation and were asked questions about strategies for anthelmintic therapy and diagnostic testing. A total of 380 operations provided data regarding their parasite control practices. Most respondents dewormed 2–3 times a year with ivermectin being the most commonly used anthelmintic. About 22% of respondents used fecal egg counts (FEC) in some form, with less than 10% using them on a regular basis. Less than 5% made use of fecal egg count reduction tests (FECRT). These results suggest little change since the last nationwide survey was conducted in 1998, as the majority of respondents did not report using FECs. This is in stark contrast to recent European surveys, where 50–60% of respondents were using FECs routinely. However, the anthelmintic treatment intensity appears to have been lowered compared to 1998. Purpose The increased need for, and maintenance of, infrastructure creates challenges for all agencies that manage infrastructure assets. To assist with these challenges, agencies implement asset management systems. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and compare the importance of barriers faced by agencies establishing transportation asset management systems in the USA and Libya to contrast a case of a developed and developing country.Design/methodology/approach A literature review identified 28 potential barriers for implementing an asset management system. Practitioners who participate in decision-making processes in each country were asked to rate the importance of each barrier in an online survey questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Kendall Concordance W., and Mann-Whitney are used to analyze the collected data.Findings Through an analysis of 61 completed questionnaires, 14 barriers were identified as important by both the US and Libyan practitioners. A total of 11 additional barriers, primarily in the areas of political and regulatory obstacles, were determined to be important only for Libya. These 11 barriers provide reasonable insights into asset management systems’ barriers for developing countries.Practical implications The list of barriers identified from this research will assist decision makers to address and overcome these barriers when implementing asset management systems in their specific organizational and country conditions.Originality/value The research identified standard barriers to implementing asset management systems and identified barriers that were specific to the country context, such as political and regulatory barriers in Libya. When viewed with the asset management literature, the results show broad applicability of some asset management barriers and the need to contextualize to country context (e.g. developing countries) for other barriers. Background: Increasing use of genetic technologies in clinical and research settings increases the potential for misattributed paternity to be identified. Yet existing guidance from the President's Commission for the Study of Ethical Problems in Biomedical and Behavioral Research and the Institute of Medicine (among others) offers contradictory advice. Genetic health professionals are thus likely to vary in their practice when misattributed paternity is identified, and empirical investigation into the disclosure of misattributed paternity is scarce. Given the relevance of this ethical dilemma and its significance to users of genetic services, this study aimed to investigate the attitudes of lay people with regard to the disclosure of misattributed paternity.Methods: An online questionnaire was hosted and advertised through Amazon's Mechanical Turk to 200 United States residents aged 18 years or older. Respondents were asked to rate (via a Likert scale) the ethical permissibility of possible actions a clinician may carry out when misattributed paternity is identified. Data analysis consisted of preliminary descriptive analysis, chi-squared analysis, and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests.Results: There was no clear majority support for many of the options surveyed across different contexts, with only six out of ten scenarios displaying some general consensus. Men were more likely to support scenarios where the father is informed of paternity. Importantly, participants' views varied according to whether the desires of the father were previously expressed, suggesting that perceptions of the permissibility of a clinician's action will depend on the interests of all parties affected.Conclusions: This sample of the general public showed attitudes that were, at least to some degree, at variance with some professional guidelines. We give arguments for why at least some of these attitudes might be justified. We argue that case-specific judgments should be made and outline some of the relevant ethical considerations. The aims of this study were to examine the movement demands of preseason practice in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I college football players using portable global positioning system (GPS) technology and to assess perceived wellness associated with preseason practice to determine whether GPS-derived variables from the preceding day influence perceived wellness the following day. Twenty-nine players were monitored using GPS receivers (Catapult Innovations, Melbourne, Australia) during 20 preseason practices. Individual observations (n = 550) were divided into offensive and defensive position groups. Movement variables including low-, medium-, high-intensity, and sprint distance, player load, and acceleration and deceleration distance were assessed. Perceived wellness ratings (n = 469) were examined using a questionnaire which assessed fatigue, soreness, sleep quality, sleep quantity, stress, and mood. A 1-way analysis of variance for positional movement demands and multi-level regressions for wellness measures were used, followed by post hoc testing to evaluate the relational significance between categorical outcomes of perceived wellness scores and movement variables. Results demonstrated significantly (p ≤ 0.05) greater total, high-intensity, and sprint distance, along with greater acceleration and deceleration distances for the defensive back and wide receiver position groups compared with their respective offensive and defensive counterparts. Significant (p ≤ 0.05) differences in movement variables were demonstrated for individuals who responded more or less favorably on each of the 6 factors of perceived wellness. Data from this study provide novel quantification of the position- specific physical demands and perceived wellness associated with college football preseason practice. To document the current perfusion workforce status and to anticipate the future demands of an ever-changing perfusion workplace environment, a valid survey is needed to help guide the future of the perfusion workforce. The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) sponsored a survey of Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) demographic and clinical trends that was linked electronically to the 2015-2016 ABCP online recertification process. Of 3,875 eligible CCP's, 3,056 (78.9%) responded to the survey. The 12 survey questions covered the topics of gender, age, education levels, years of clinical experience, annual clinical activity exposure, high fidelity simulation experience, recertification requirement satisfaction and professional activity requirement contentment. The results of the ABCP annual survey are being published in accordance with the ABCP's commitment to establish and maintain interactive communication with the community of CCPs. The goal of this survey is to present the perfusion and health-care community with important statistics related to the current field of perfusion and establish trends to guide the future of perfusion. Background and Purpose: Simulation fidelity includes three aspects: physical, conceptual, and psychological. This study reports on strengths and limitations of the Presence Questionnaire (PQ) for measurement of fidelity in human patient simulation. Methods: This nonexperimental correlational study includes a convenience sample of 83 undergraduate nursing students who participated in an emergency simulation and completed the PQ. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) on the 7-item PQ Realism subscale between groups who did or did not experience simulation equipment malfunction measured the PQ's sensitivity to this challenge to fidelity. Results: Students (n 5 23) experiencing simulation equipment malfunction scored significantly lower on the PQ Realism subscale than students (n 5 58) not experiencing equipment malfunction. Conclusions: The modified PQ Realism subscale is a valid measure of physical fidelity in nursing simulation and may advance the study and development of simulation for researchers and nursing educators. Background: The practice of medicine in India has undergone considerable change affecting delivery of health in both positive and negative directions. As a result, there was a growing feeling that medical treatment should be made accountable and this led to doctors and dentists becoming subject to the process of law. Patients have become more aware of their right to compensation and as a consequence doctors and dentists should be knowledgeable about the laws that govern them. Aims and objectives: To assess the awareness about Medico legal aspects and Consumer Protection Act [CPA] among Dental professionals. Materials and methods: A self-structured validated questionnaire comprising of 20 questions related to medico legal aspects and CPA was designed. A total of 450 dental professionals were surveyed from 4 prime dental institutions in Chennai, India. Of the 450 professionals that were surveyed 150 were MDS faculty, 150 were BDS faculty and 150 were PG students. The data was subjected to SPSS, version 16 and statistically analysed using Chi square test and Fisher's exact test. Ap value less than 0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: BDS faculty, MDS faculty and PG students were found to possess similar level of understanding and there was no significant difference between the groups. Knowledge was found to be equal between male and female dentists. The young practitioners were found to be more informed about CPA than the senior practitioners. Conclusions: It was found that most of the participants were aware of relevant Medico legal aspects, but were less aware of CPA. Purpose: To estimate the prevalence of women diagnosed with uterine fibroids and the associated symptom burden in the US. Patients and methods: Responses of women aged 18-54 years, who completed an online survey, were analyzed. Data were weighted based on age, education, race, geographic region, income, and propensity score to derive national estimates of the prevalence of women diagnosed with uterine fibroids and associated symptom burden. Weighted means and percentages were reported. Prevalence across age and ethnic groups was examined. Symptom burden among women with and without uterine fibroids was compared using weighted logistic regressions. Results: Of 59,411 respondents who met study inclusion criteria, 7.7% reported receiving a diagnosis of uterine fibroids. Of these, 5,670 women (1,402 in the uterine fibroid group and 4,268 in the control group) were excluded from analysis because they had a hysterectomy. Among the non-hysterectomized study participants, 3,031 self-reported a diagnosis of uterine fibroids (prevalence: 5.8%, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.5%-6.1%); prevalence increased as women aged and was greatest in the 50-54 age group (11.4%; 95% CI: 10.4%-12.4%). In addition, prevalence was greater in black vs white women (9.8%; 95% CI: 8.7%-11.0% vs 5.4%; 95% CI: 5.1%-5.7%). A greater percentage of women with uterine fibroids (vs those without) experienced severe heavy menstrual bleeding (16.7% vs 7.7%), severe constipation/bloating/diarrhea (7.7% vs 4.7%), severe passage of clots (6.7% vs 2.4%), severe spotting/bleeding between periods (1.7% vs 1.0%), and severe pelvic pressure (1.6% vs 0.6%). Among uterine fibroid patients with these typical uterine fibroid-related symptoms, 56.4%, 32.3%, 26.4%, 25.8%, and 20.4% reported heavy menstrual bleeding, passage of clots, spotting/bleeding between periods, constipation/bloating/diarrhea, and pelvic pressure, respectively, as extremely bothersome. This article proposes contemporary best-practice recommendations for stated preference (SP) studies used to inform decision making, grounded in the accumulated body of peer-reviewed literature. These recommendations consider the use of SP methods to estimate both use and non-use (passive-use) values, and cover the broad SP domain, including contingent valuation and discrete choice experiments. We focus on applications to public goods in the context of the environment and human health but also consider ways in which the proposed recommendations might apply to other common areas of application. The recommendations recognize that SP results may be used and reused (benefit transfers) by governmental agencies and nongovernmental organizations, and that all such applications must be considered. The intended result is a set of guidelines for SP studies that is more comprehensive than that of the original National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Blue Ribbon Panel on contingent valuation, is more germane to contemporary applications, and reflects the two decades of research since that time. We also distinguish between practices for which accumulated research is sufficient to support recommendations and those for which greater uncertainty remains. The goal of this article is to raise the quality of SP studies used to support decision making and promote research that will further enhance the practice of these studies worldwide. Several published studies have described the success and satisfaction of residents enrolled in human radiology training programs, however comparable studies for veterinary radiology residents are currently lacking. The purpose of this descriptive, survey study was to evaluate resident perceptions of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) residency training programs. A web-based survey was sent to all listed 114 ECVDI residents and received a 57.0% response (65/114). Of these, 88% of respondents enjoyed their training and 73.5% of finishing respondents agreed they felt ready to work as a veterinary radiologist. First-time pass rates for the theoretical and practical components of the board certifying examinations were >80%. Regarding research and exam preparation, 41.5% and 49.2% of respondents, respectively, did not feel they received appropriate guidance. Eleven percent of respondents felt a lack of mentoring and 7.7% reported  not receiving annual appraisals. Findings from this study can be used as background for future studies on perceptions of ECVDI residents and ECVDI residency program directors and for future policy decisions regarding ECVDI residency training programs., (© 2023 The Authors. Background: The Dissociative Experience Scale for adolescent (A-DES), a 30-item, multidimensional, self-administered questionnaire, was validated using a large sample of American young people sample. We reported the linguistic validation process and the metric validity of the Italian version of A-DES in the Italy. Methods: A set of questionnaires was provided to a total of 633 participants from March 2015 to April 2016. The participants consisted of 282 boys and 351 girls, and their average age was between 18 and 24 years old. The translation process consisted of two consecutive steps: forward-backward translation and acceptability testing. The psychometric testing was applied to Italian students who were recruited from the Italian Public Schools and Universities in Sicily. Informed consent was obtained from all participants at the research. All individuals completed the A-DES. Reliability and validity were tested. Results: The translated version was validated on a total of 633 Italian students. The reliability of A-DES total is .926. It is composed by 4 subscales: Dissociative amnesia, Absorption and imaginative involvement, Depersonalization and derealization, and Passive influence. The reliability of each subscale is: .756 for dissociative amnesia, .659 for absorption and imaginative involvement, .850 for depersonalization and derealization, and .743 for passive influence. Background: The CareGiver Oncology Quality of Life (CarGOQoL) questionnaire, a 29-item, multidimensional, self-administered questionnaire, was validated using a large French sample. We reported the linguistic validation process and the metric validity of the English version of CarGOQoL in the United- States.Methods: The translation process consisted of 3 consecutive steps: forward-backward translation, acceptability testing, and cognitive interviews. The psychometric testing was applied to caregivers of consecutive patients with representative cancers who were recruited from the Regional Cancer Center in northwestern Pennsylvania. All individuals completed the CarGOQoL at baseline, day- 30, and day- 90. Internal consistency, reliability, external validity, reproducibility, and sensitivity to change were tested.Results: The translated version was validated on a total of 87 American cancer caregivers. The dimensions of the CarGOQoL generally demonstrated a high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha > 0.70 for all but four domain scores). External validity testing revealed that the CarGOQoL index score correlated significantly with all SF-36 dimension scores except the physical composite score (Pearson's correlation: 0.28-0.70). Reproducibility was satisfactory at day- 30 (intraclass correlation coefficient: 0.46-0.94) and day- 90 (0.43-0.92). Four specific dimensions of CarGOQoL showed responsiveness: the Psychological well-being, the Relationships with health care system, the Social support and the Finances.Conclusions: The American version of the CarGOQoL constitutes a useful instrument to measure QoL in caregivers of cancer patients in the United- States. Background: Big data from large, government-sponsored surveys and data sets offers researchers opportunities to conduct population-based studies of important health issues in the United States, as well as develop preliminary data to support proposed future work. Yet, navigating these national data sources is challenging. Despite the widespread availability of national data, there is little guidance for researchers on how to access and evaluate the use of these resources., Objective: Our aim was to identify and summarize a comprehensive list of federally sponsored, health- and health care-related data sources that are accessible in the public domain in order to facilitate their use by researchers., Methods: We conducted a systematic mapping review of government sources of health-related data on US populations and with active or recent (previous 10 years) data collection. The key measures were government sponsor, overview and purpose of data, population of interest, sampling design, sample size, data collection methodology, type and description of data, and cost to obtain data. Convergent synthesis was used to aggregate findings., Results: Among 106 unique data sources, 57 met the inclusion criteria. Data sources were classified as survey or assessment data (n=30, 53%), trends data (n=27, 47%), summative processed data (n=27, 47%), primary registry data (n=17, 30%), and evaluative data (n=11, 19%). Most (n=39, 68%) served more than 1 purpose. The population of interest included individuals/patients (n=40, 70%), providers (n=15, 26%), and health care sites and systems (n=14, 25%). The sources collected data on demographic (n=44, 77%) and clinical information (n=35, 61%), health behaviors (n=24, 42%), provider or practice characteristics (n=22, 39%), health care costs (n=17, 30%), and laboratory tests (n=8, 14%). Most (n=43, 75%) offered free data sets., Conclusions: A broad scope of national health data is accessible to researchers. These data provide insights into important health issues and the nation's health care system while eliminating the burden of primary data collection. Data standardization and uniformity were uncommon across government entities, highlighting a need to improve data consistency. Aim: In this study we aimed to evaluate the attitude of the patiens who about rational drug use applied to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Research and Practice Hospital. Material and methods: Two hundred and ninety six patients in Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Research and Practice Hospital were included in the study. The data obtained from patients by questionnaire generated by the Rational Drug Use Unit of Turkish Ministry of Health General Directorate of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy. The data were determined as count, percentage and Chi-square test by SPSS (SPSS, version 11.5, Chicago, IL, USA).statistical package program. Results: 27.7 % of the patients were in the 18-30 age, 59.5 % were female and 48% were primary school graduated.when home drug possession and storage behavior of the participants were evaluated we have seen that 38.5 % of them were keeping the rest of the treatment drugs in refrigerator if there is not any warning about storage conditions and 75.7 % of them kept the cold chain drugs in the refrigerator door. 70.6 of them said that they pay attention to the expiration date of the drugs and 42.2% of them reported that they received information from the physician when they want to use them again. 47.6 % of them reported that they have information about usage and possible side effects of the drugs by using prospectus and 79.1 % of them applied to the physician if any side effects were seen. Conclusions: This study reveals that the knowledge of the patients about rational drug use is not enough. It is necessary to increase the training programs for rational drug use. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to present findings on the efficacy of documents that US police are required to provide to domestic violence survivors, specifically intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors. Triangulating data from survivors, shelter staff, and law enforcement officers across four stages of IPV experiences, this national study identifies priorities among essential information needs and proposes information guidelines for law enforcement. Design/methodology/approach - A nationally distributed, 13-item, e-mail questionnaire was submitted to a stratified sample (ten largest, median, and smallest) of law enforcement agencies in all 50 states. Domestic violence shelters in each of the 1,500 cities were similarly recruited; survivors were recruited indirectly via shelter staff. The questions were clustered in terms of four common situations. Responses from 839 individuals were obtained, self-identified as police officers (481), shelter staff (263), and IPV survivors (95). Findings - Documents should be formatted for safety (i.e. small), developed for specific situations, and written simply. They should also offer information about non-law enforcement services. All three of the populations queried agreed that the immediate needs of survivors are stronger than their long-term needs. Research limitations/implications - The primary limitations are that the survey could include no means of determining the degree to which the respondents match the sample, and the response rate was insufficient to support inferential statistical analysis. Originality/value - This national study, the first of its kind, explicates the nuances of information elements in the personally situated experiences of survivors, and it presents the first set of suggested law-enforcement document design guidelines. Objectives To describe methodological approaches to population targeting and sampling and to summarize limitations of Internet-based questionnaires in older adults. Design Systematic literature review. Setting Studies using online questionnaires in older adult populations. Participants English-language articles using search terms for geriatric, age 65 and over, Internet survey, online survey, Internet questionnaire, and online questionnaire in Pub Med and EBSCO host between 1984 and July 2012. Inclusion criteria were study population mean age 65 and older and use of an online questionnaire for research. Review of 336 abstracts yielded 14 articles for full review by two investigators; 11 articles met inclusion criteria. Measurements Articles were extracted for study design and setting, participant characteristics, recruitment strategy, country, and study limitations. Results Eleven articles were published after 2001. Studies had populations with a mean age of 65 to 78, included descriptive and analytical designs, and were conducted in the United States, Australia, and Japan. Recruiting methods varied widely from paper fliers and personal e-mails to use of consumer marketing panels. Investigator-reported study limitations included the use of small convenience samples and limited generalizability. Conclusion Online questionnaires are a feasible method of surveying older adults in some geographic regions and for some subsets of older adults, but limited Internet access constrains recruiting methods and often limits study generalizability. Background: The thyroid eye disease (TED) treatment landscape is rapidly evolving. How new treatment options have impacted practice is unknown. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional electronic survey of American and European Thyroid Association members between June 2 and June 30, 2021. The survey included TED questions about resources for its management, index cases for different severities and presentations of TED, barriers for the management of TED, and participants' concerns about TED. We classified respondents into three geographic categories: North America, Europe, or other regions. Results: Two hundred fifty-two eligible participants started the survey (15% response rate), and 227 completed it. Participants were mostly men (50.2%, 114/227), white (79.7%, 181/227), endocrinologists with a thyroid focus (66.1%, 150/227), practicing in a tertiary academic center (46.7%, 106/227), caring for 10 or more TED patients over the last 12 months (40.5%, 92/227), and reported not having a multidisciplinary TED clinic in their institution (52.8%, 120/227). The majority reported that new TED cases per annum have not changed in the past 10 years (47.5%, 108/227), and that TED patients are found in practice during the management of hyperthyroidism (41.8%, 95/227). For mild active TED, participants from Europe reported a higher use of selenium (73%[96/132] vs. 32%[20/62] of respondents from North America and 24%[8/33] of respondents from other regions). For moderate-to-severe active TED, there was a modest preference for teprotumumab as first-line therapy (37%, 23/62) among North American participants and intravenous (IV) steroids (73%[96/132], and 42%[14/33]) for participants from Europe and other regions, respectively. These treatment preferences did not change in patients with moderate-to-severe active TED with poorly controlled diabetes. In contrast, participants from the three geographic categories preferred IV steroids for optic neuropathy and women planning pregnancy. The three top "very important" concerns about TED management according to participants were: the cost of TED treatment (31.3%, 71/227), lack of effective TED treatments (19.8%, 45/227), and difficulty in predicting whether TED will develop (18.9%, 43/227). Conclusions: There is a marked geographic practice variation in the management of TED. Clinicians' concerns about TED management demand ongoing research on more effective treatment, TED predictive tools, and policy changes to improve the affordability of new TED therapies.

Science content knowledge is a concern for educators in the United States because performance has stagnated for the past decade. Investigators designed this study to determine the current levels of scientific literacy among undergraduate students in a freshman-level biology course (a core requirement for majors and nonmajors), identify factors influencing levels of scientific literacy, and make recommendations for improving scientific literacy. Participants (n = 255) answered a one-time, 18-item life science questionnaire. A significant difference in content knowledge was found between participants who engaged in informal science learning weekly and participants who did not engage in informal science learning (i.e., learning outside the classroom). The article offers information on a 2011 survey that estimated the global prevalence of Marek's disease (MD) and gained a better understanding of current control strategies and future concerns. The survey covered national branch secretaries of the World Veterinary Poultry Association, vaccine, breeder, and production companies, as well as MD researchers from various backgrounds. It reveals continued decline of MD incidence in the U.S. between 2001 and 2011 while 18 countries reported increasing MD incidence due to higher virulent strains.

This study determined the criterion validity and test–retest reliability of a brief park use questionnaire. From five U.S. locations, 232 adults completed a brief survey four times and wore a global positioning system (GPS) monitor for 3 weeks. We assessed validity for park visits during the past week and during a usual week by examining agreement between frequency and duration of park visits reported on the questionnaire to the GPS monitor results. Spearman correlation coefficients (SCC) were used to measure agreement. For past week park visit frequency and duration, the SCC were .62 to .65 and .62 to .67, respectively. For usual week park visit frequency and duration, the SCC were .40 to .50 and .50 to .53, respectively. Usual park visit frequency reliability was .78 to .88 (percentage agreement: 69%-82%) and usual park visit duration was .75 to .84 (percentage agreement: 64%-73%). Background: Mental Health Literacy (MHL) has become a focus of research in recent decades, as a prerequisite for early identification and intervention for mental health problems. Although several instruments have been developed for assessing MHL, there is a need for brief and psychometrically sound measures to capture important aspects of MHL in large and diverse adult samples. The present study aimed to: (1) provide a revised and shorter version of a previously validated questionnaire for assessing MHL; and (2) examine the psychometric properties of the MHLq-SVa in student samples from six different countries (China, India, Indonesia, Portugal, Thailand, and United States)., Methods: The study involved 2180 senior school and undergraduate students, aged between 17 and 25 years old, from China, India, Indonesia, Portugal, Thailand, and the United States. Participants responded to the Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire for young adults (MHLq-ya), in their native language, following its translation and adaptation for each culture. The MHLq-ya comprises 29 items, organized into four dimensions: Knowledge of mental health problems; Erroneous beliefs/stereotypes; First-aid skills and help-seeking behavior; Self-help strategies. Confirmatory factor analyses and internal consistency analyses were performed on the combined data., Results: Data from the different countries supported a shorter version of the questionnaire (MHLq-SVa), composed of 16 items that fit with previously defined dimensions. Internal consistency and between-factor correlations further supported the adequacy of the instrument's psychometric properties., Conclusion: The study provided preliminary support for the construct validity and reliability of the MHLq-SVa as a measure for assessing MHL in young adults from six different countries and languages. The article discusses research which was conducted to assess the knowledge and behaviors of health professionals and physicians regarding patterns of dietary supplement ((DS) use among U.S. military personnel and possible adverse events (AE) associated with DS use and to investigate how health care providers address the issue of DS with patients and evaluated provider knowledge regarding reporting systems. Researchers asked questions to military physicians and evaluated the frequencies of their responses. They found that the majority of physicians (66%) routinely asked most of their patients about DS use, and 65% did not have a reliable source of information for herbal and DS products. They concluded that Information gaps in DS information and AE reporting existed.

A total of 44 state refugee health coordinators returned a survey assessing mental health screening practices and barriers to screening. Results show that less than half the states ask refugees about a history of war trauma or torture. Of the 25 states that provide mental health screening, 17 (70.8%) utilize informal conversation rather than standardized measures. Screening practices are highly associated with the number of refugees and community discretionary grants and with the presence of a Services for Survivors of Torture Program. Refugee health coordinators identified the need for short, culturally appropriate mental health screening tools to identify refugees who need assessment and treatment services. Diabet. Med. 29, 682-689 (2012) Abstract Aims To examine patient and physician beliefs regarding insulin therapy and the degree to which patients adhere to their insulin regimens. Methods Internet survey of 1250 physicians (600 specialists, 650 primary care physicians) who treat patients with diabetes and telephone survey of 1530 insulin-treated patients (180 with Type 1 diabetes, 1350 with Type 2 diabetes) in China, France, Japan, Germany, Spain, Turkey, the UK or the USA. Results One third (33.2%) of patients reported insulin omission/non-adherence at least 1 day in the last month, with an average of 3.3 days. Three quarters (72.5%) of physicians report that their typical patient does not take their insulin as prescribed, with a mean of 4.3 days per month of basal insulin omission/non-adherence and 5.7 days per month of prandial insulin omission/non-adherence. Patients and providers indicated the same five most common reasons for insulin omission/non-adherence: too busy; travelling; skipped meals; stress/emotional problems; public embarrassment. Physicians reported low patient success at initiating insulin in a timely fashion and adjusting insulin doses. Most physicians report that many insulin-treated patients do not have adequate glucose control (87.6%) and that they would treat more aggressively if not for concern about hypoglycaemia (75.5%). Although a majority of patients (and physicians) regard insulin treatment as restrictive, more patients see insulin treatment as having positive than negative impacts on their lives. Conclusions Glucose control is inadequate among insulin-treated patients, in part attributable to insulin omission/non-adherence and lack of dose adjustment.
