The article presents the traumatic experience of the author with a U.S. government agency, Institute of Personality Assessment and Research (IPAR). The author was invited by IPAR to come to the Institute house for a period of two or three days, and there talk with members of its staff, participate in a series of experiments and psychological tests, and meet and interact with a number of other persons selected on a similar basis. Theoretically, this invasion of the sanctity of the person, this analysis of the sources of creativity and non-conformity, could be put to the most vicious uses.
