The article analyzes whether low-carbohydrate diets should be suggested to patients with metabolic syndrome in the U.S. In spite of the widespread use of the dietary guidelines, the rates of metabolic syndrome and obesity continue to rise in the U.S. As most of the energy in low-carbohydrate diet are derived from fat and protein, there is concern that such diets may raise lipid levels and overall risk for coronary disease.
