The article highlights the importance of investing more in science and establishing links with the business sector. The current challenges of humanity, such as climate change and poverty, which require the contribution of science, are mentioned. It is pointed out that China has surpassed the United States in scientific production and that Asia has adopted a different strategy in the field of science and technology. Regarding Uruguay, the need to increase investment in R&D and promote the participation of researchers in the business sector is emphasized.
