Abstract

New research from Henan Agricultural University in Zhengzhou, People's Republic of China, has identified a gene called LORF9 that is involved in the early replication of Marek's disease virus (MDV) in B lymphocytes. MDV is a highly infectious and oncogenic virus that causes severe T cell lymphomas in chickens. The study found that a deletion mutant of the LORF9 gene showed a comparable immunological protective effect against MDV when compared to the CVI988/Rispens vaccine strain.
