Abstract

Context and motivation: Software Product Lines (SPL) enable the creation of software product families with shared core components using feature models to model variability. Choosing features from a feature model to generate a product may not be sufficient in certain situations because the application engineer may need to be able to decide on configuration time the system's elements to which a certain feature will be applied. Therefore, there is a need to select which features have to be included in the product but also to which of its elements they have to be applied. Objective: We introduce local features that are selectively applied to specific parts of the system during product configuration. Results: We formalize local features using multimodels to establish relationships between local features and other elements of the system models. The paper includes examples illustrating the motivation for local features, a formal definition, and a domain-specific language for specification and implementation. Finally, we present a case study in a real scenario that shows how the concept of local features allowed us to define the variability of a complex system. The examples and the application case show that the proposal achieves higher customization levels at the application engineering phase.

4. Integrated geophysical approach for detection and size-geometry characterization of a multiscale karst system in carbonate units, semiarid Brazil

Abstract

The karstification of carbonate rocks creates 3D maze voids that are normally controlled by fracture networks and sedimentary bedding. The spatial distribution and density of karst systems are usually complex and difficult to predict, demanding multidisciplinary studies at different scales of investigation to determine the spatial distribution and density of karst features and their possible links with cave systems controlled by the regional structural setting. The present study integrates geophysical datasets (gravity, electrical resistivity tomography - ERT, and ground penetrating radar - GPR) with a digital elevation model to investigate a karst system in the Irecê basin, a semiarid region of Brazil. Morphostructural lineaments reveal a NNW-SSE- and E-W-oriented structural setting of the crystalline basement, which is imprinted on the internal basin architecture, and surface drainage network. Negative gravity anomalies and high-gradient gravity zones indicate the main karstic zone, where karst landforms are concentrated. In addition, 2.5D gravity modeling provides the internal basin geometry, demonstrating that the karst system has evolved in the thickest sector of the basin. ERT profiles delineate the underground passages that connect dolines at depth. Finally, GPR data image shallow subsurface ghost-rock karstification that spread out from the surface to depth and that took advantage of vertical fractures and slightly arched bedding planes. Our results point out the role of the fracture corridors in channelizing hydrodynamic energy at a sufficiently high level to create caves by the total removal of dissolved material, whereas in the surrounding areas under low hydrodynamic conditions, overall shallow ghost-rock karstification took place, creating residual weathered rocks (alterites).

Abstract

Dentre as formas clínicas de leucemia em pequenos animais, cita-se a leucemia linfocítica crônica e a leucemia linfoblástica aguda. A forma aguda é caracterizada por progressão rápida e responsividade baixa as modalidades terapêuticas. É mais relatada em felinos e os sinais clínicos são associados com os órgãos em que ocorre infiltração neoplásica, ou ainda alterações hematológicas. Os animais portadores de retroviroses são mais predispostos. O tratamento é baseado na utilização de fármacos quimioterápicos, anti-inflamatórios esteroidais e tratamento suporte. Reforça-se a importância do diagnóstico precoce na sobrevida dos animais. Objetiva-se com o presente trabalho, descrever o caso clínico de um felino jovem com leucemia linfoblástica aguda, associada a infeção pelo vírus da leucemia felina. O diagnóstico final foi obtido após o óbito por meio do mielograma e, mesmo com tratamento suporte, os efeitos benéficos foram escassos e diante da condição clínica do paciente o tutor optou pela eutanásia.

Abstract

Senna rugosa is a species found in the Cerrado and used in folk medicine as a vermifuge and in the treatment of poisonous snakebites accidents. In this work, we identified the main secondary metabolites present in ethanolic extracts of the leaves (ELSR) and roots (ERSR) of S. rugosa and evaluated the potential cytoprotective effect against cellular macromolecular damage, as well as the cytotoxic properties of the extracts on the K562 and Jurkat leukemic cell lines. The identification of metabolites was carried out by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The antioxidant activities were investigated by direct ABTS•+ and DPPH• radical scavenging methods, protection against oxidative damage in proteins, and DNA. Cytotoxic properties were investigated against healthy cells, isolated from human peripheral blood (PBMC) and leukemic cell lines. The leaf extracts contained catechin, rutin, epigallocatechin derivatives, kaempferol glycosides, luteolin, and dimeric and trimeric procyanidins, while the root extract profile showed obtusichromoneside derivatives, 2-methoxystypandrone, stilbene derivatives, naphthopyranones, and flavanone derivatives. The extracts showed antioxidant activity, with an IC50 of 4.86 ± 0.51 μg/mL and 8.33 ± 0.90 μg/mL in the ABTS assay for ELSR and ERSR, respectively. Furthermore, in the DPPH• assay, the IC50 was 19.98 ± 1.96 μg/mL for ELSR and 13.37 ± 1.05 μg/mL for ERSR. The extracts protected macromolecules against oxidative damage at concentrations of 5 μg/mL. The cytotoxicity test against leukemic strains was observed after 24 and 48 h of treatment. After 48 h, results against the K562 cell line demonstrate an IC50 of 242.54 ± 2.38 μg/mL and 223.00 ± 2.34 μg/mL for ELSR and ERSR, respectively. While against the Jurkat cell line, these extracts showed an IC50 of 171.45 ± 2.25 μg/mL and 189.30 ± 2.27 μg/mL, respectively. The results pertaining to PBMC viability demonstrated that the extracts showed selectivity for the leukemic cell lines. Together, our results reveal that the leaves and roots of S. rugosa have completely distinct and complex chemical compositions and expand their significant pharmacological potential in oxidative stress and leukemia conditions.
