Abstract Background We investigated the feasibility of the tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) as a prognostic marker for penile squamous cell carcinoma(SCC). Methods We retrospectively collected data from 83 patients with penile squamous cell carcinoma. H&E-stained slides were reviewed for TLS density. In addition, clinical parameters were analyzed, the prognostic value of these parameters on overall survival (OS) was evaluated using ‒ Kaplan–Meier survival curves, and the prognostic value of influencing factors was evaluated using Cox multifactor design nomogram analysis. Result BMI, T, N, and M are significant in the survival curve with or without tertiary lymphoid structure. BMI, T, N, M and TLS were used to construct a prognostic model for penile squamous cell carcinoma, and the prediction accuracy reached a consensus of 0.884(0.835–0.932), and the decision consensus reached 0.581(0.508–0.655). Conclusion TLS may be a positive prognostic factor for penile squamous cell carcinoma, and the combination of BMI, T, N and M can better evaluate the prognosis of patients.

Abstract Background Adverse reactions are prone to occur in the early stage of chemotherapy and can negatively affect the dietary intake and nutritional status of breast cancer (BC) patients. Consequently, they need to participate in health self-management and lifestyle promotion programs. Early multidisciplinary interventions aim to enhance dietary management behavior and quality of life in chemotherapy-treated BC patients. Methods This single-blinded, single-center, randomized controlled trial will include 88 females who have not yet started the early or middle stage of the chemotherapy cycle. A random number table will be used randomly assign females to the intervention group or usual group at a 1:1 ratio. The intervention elements are based on the theoretical guidance of the Integrated Theory of Health Behavior Change (ITHBC). A multidisciplinary team (MDT) comprising oncologists, dietitians, nurses, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners, and psychologists will provide the intervention. Intervention sessions will be conducted once a week for 8 weeks, beginning in the early or middle stage of the chemotherapy cycle and continuing through admission and a home-based interval chemotherapy period. The intervention includes face-to-face discussions, online meetings, WeChat messaging, and telephone calls. The themes target adverse reactions, dietary information and habits, self-care self-efficacy, treatment self-regulation, dietary supplement and TCM use, social support, weight management, and outcome expectations. The primary outcome is dietary management behavior measured by the Dietary Management Behavior Questionnaire (DMBQ). Secondary outcomes are self-care self-efficacy assessed by the Strategies Used by People to Promote Health (SUPPH); quality of life measured by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B); and body mass index (BMI) measured by an electronic meter. All participants will be assessed at baseline and immediately, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after the intervention. Discussion Early dietary intervention is needed, as diet is one of the most common health self-management behaviors influenced by chemotherapy. Early multidisciplinary interventions may provide a foundation for dietary self-management and improve nutritional status in the survival period. Trial registration This intervention protocol was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry (ChiCTR2300076503, October 10, 2023).

Tanycytes, specialized ependymal cells located in the hypothalamus, play a crucial role in the generation of new neurons that contribute to the neural circuits responsible for regulating the systemic energy balance. The precise coordination of the gene networks controlling neurogenesis in naive and mature tanycytes is essential for maintaining homeostasis in adulthood. However, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways that govern the proliferation and differentiation of tanycytes into neurons remains limited. This article aims to review the recent advancements in research into the mechanisms and functions of tanycyte-derived neurogenesis. Studies employing lineage-tracing techniques have revealed that the neurogenesis specifically originating from tanycytes in the hypothalamus has a compensatory role in neuronal loss and helps maintain energy homeostasis during metabolic diseases. Intriguingly, metabolic disorders are considered early biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, the neurogenic potential of tanycytes and the state of newborn neurons derived from tanycytes heavily depend on the maintenance of mild microenvironments, which may be disrupted in Alzheimer’s disease due to the impaired blood–brain barrier function. However, the specific alterations and regulatory mechanisms governing tanycyte-derived neurogenesis in Alzheimer’s disease remain unclear. Accumulating evidence suggests that tanycyte-derived neurogenesis might be impaired in Alzheimer’s disease, exacerbating neurodegeneration. Confirming this hypothesis, however, poses a challenge because of the lack of long-term tracing and nucleus-specific analyses of newborn neurons in the hypothalamus of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Further research into the molecular mechanisms underlying tanycyte-derived neurogenesis holds promise for identifying small molecules capable of restoring tanycyte proliferation in neurodegenerative diseases. This line of investigation could provide valuable insights into potential therapeutic strategies for Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions.

Non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) are a common type of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) pollutant in the petrochemical industry and have attracted widespread attention because of their adverse health effects and environmental impacts. In this paper, we report a new porous slurry formed with zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and iso-hexadecane to capture the low-concentration and multi-component NMHCs (mainly ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8), and n-butane (n-C4H10)) from the oil field exhaust. The sorption capacity of C2H6 in the slurry is significantly higher than that of nitrogen (N2) and methane (CH4). Moreover, the slurry demonstrated a clear advantage for C2H6 over N2 and CH4 in competitive adsorption through the pressure-drop curves. In the NMHCs capture experiments, the C3H8 and n-C4H10 concentrations after purification can be reduced to below 100 ppm, while the C2H6 concentration can reach approximately 180 ppm. More encouragingly, in the breakthrough tests, the slurry exhibits a perfect kinetic separation selectivity for multi-component NMHCs. Furthermore, to avoid structural collapse of ZIF-8 material during long-term use in acidic and wet environments, a certain amount of 2-methylimidazole was retained in the slurry as a protective agent in the material synthesis process. In this way, the ZIF-8 materials in the slurry can retain the stable characteristic structure in an aqueous and acidic environment and keep the capture capacity for NMHCs without degradation. We believe the porous ZIF-8/iso-hexadecane slurry is a promising capture agent for low-concentration and multi-component NMHCs with strong purification capacity and stability.

Objective This study aimed to develop and validate robust predictive models for patients with oesophageal cancer who achieved a pathological complete response (pCR) and those who did not (non-pCR) after neoadjuvant therapy and oesophagectomy.Design Clinicopathological data of 6517 primary oesophageal cancer patients who underwent neoadjuvant therapy and oesophagectomy were obtained from the National Cancer Database for the training cohort. An independent cohort of 444 Chinese patients served as the validation set. Two distinct multivariable Cox models of overall survival (OS) were constructed for pCR and non-pCR patients, respectively, and were presented using web-based dynamic nomograms (graphical representation of predicted OS based on the clinical characteristics that a patient could input into the website). The calibration plot, concordance index and decision curve analysis were employed to assess calibration, discrimination and clinical usefulness of the predictive models.Results In total, 13 and 15 variables were used to predict OS for pCR and non-pCR patients undergoing neoadjuvant therapy followed by oesophagectomy, respectively. Key predictors included demographic characteristics, pretreatment clinical stage, surgical approach, pathological information and postoperative treatments. The predictive models for pCR and non-pCR patients demonstrated good calibration and clinical utility, with acceptable discrimination that surpassed that of the current tumour, node, metastases staging system.Conclusions The web-based dynamic nomograms for pCR (https://predict-survival.shinyapps.io/pCR-eso/) and non-pCR patients (https://predict-survival.shinyapps.io/non-pCR-eso/) developed in this study can facilitate the calculation of OS probability for individual patients undergoing neoadjuvant therapy and radical oesophagectomy, aiding clinicians and patients in making personalised treatment decisions.

Abstract Objective There is currently no widely accepted multidimensional health assessment questionnaire for individuals in the Chinese People Liberation Army (PLA). This study developed a multidimensional health survey questionnaire (Comprehensive Health Self-Assessment Questionnaire, CHSAQ) suitable for personnel in the PLA and conducted a preliminary examination of its reliability, validity, and discriminative ability. Methods After 183 items from 32 dimensions were selected to form the initial version of the CHSAQ, three groups of soldiers were selected from May 2022 to April 2023 and completed three survey rounds (with 183, 131, and 55 valid items). The items were screened based on classic test theory. After screening, the final questionnaire entries were formed, the structure of the questionnaire was explored through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, and its reliability, structural validity, and discriminative ability were evaluated. Results The final questionnaire consisted of 8 dimensions and 55 items on job satisfaction, anxiety and depression, daily activities, physical function, the otolaryngology system, the integumentary system, sleep disorders, and the visual system. The total cumulative variance contribution rate was 64.648% according to exploratory factor analysis. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, the normed fit index (NFI) was 0.880, and the comparison fit index (CFI) was 0.893 (close to 0.90). The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the total questionnaire was 0.970, the split half reliability coefficient was 0.937, and the retest reliability coefficient was 0.902. The results are presented as different pairwise comparisons. Conclusion Our study developed a self-report questionnaire for evaluating the comprehensive health status of personnel in the PLA in accordance with the standard procedure for questionnaire development. Our findings also showed that the CHSAQ for individuals in the PLA has good reliability and structural validity.

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to examine and analyze differential methylation profiles in order to investigate the influence of hyper-methioninemia (HM) on the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Male Wistar rats, aged eight weeks and weighing 250–300 g, were randomly assigned into four groups: a control group (Healthy, n = 8), streptozocin-induced rats (STZ group, n = 8), HM + STZ group (n = 8), and the Tangshen Formula (TSF) treatment group (TSF group, n = 8). Blood glucose levels and other metabolic indicators were monitored before treatment and at four-week intervals until 12 weeks. Total DNA was extracted from the aforementioned groups, and DNA methylation landscapes were analyzed via reduced representative bisulfite sequencing. Results Both the STZ group and HM + STZ group exhibited increased blood glucose levels and urinary albumin/creatinine ratios in comparison with the control group. Notably, the HM + STZ group exhibited a markedly elevated urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (411.90 ± 88.86 mg/g) compared to the STZ group (238.41 ± 62.52 mg/g). TSF-treated rats demonstrated substantial reductions in both blood glucose levels and urinary albumin/creatinine ratios in comparison with the HM + STZ group. In-depth analysis of DNA methylation profiles revealed 797 genes with potential therapeutic effects related to TSF, among which approximately 2.3% had been previously reported as homologous genes. Conclusion While HM exacerbates DN through altered methylation patterns at specific CpG sites, TSF holds promise as a viable treatment for DN by restoring abnormal methylation levels. The identification of specific genes provides valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of DN pathogenesis and offers potential therapeutic targets for further investigation.

Photocatalysis, a critical strategy for harvesting sunlight to address energy demand and environmental concerns, is underpinned by the discovery of high-performance photocatalysts, thereby how to design photocatalysts is now generating widespread interest in boosting the conversion efficiency of solar energy. In the past decade, computational technologies and theoretical simulations have led to a major leap in the development of high-throughput computational screening strategies for novel high-efficiency photocatalysts. In this viewpoint, we started with introducing the challenges of photocatalysis from the view of experimental practice, especially the inefficiency of the traditional “trial and error” method. Subsequently, a cross-sectional comparison between experimental and high-throughput computational screening for photocatalysis is presented and discussed in detail. On the basis of the current experimental progress in photocatalysis, we also exemplified the various challenges associated with high-throughput computational screening strategies. Finally, we offered a preferred high-throughput computational screening procedure for photocatalysts from an experimental practice perspective (model construction and screening, standardized experiments, assessment and revision), with the aim of a better correlation of high-throughput simulations and experimental practices, motivating to search for better descriptors.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) represents nearly 90% of all head and neck tumors. The current treatment modality for HNSC patients primarily involves surgical intervention and radiotherapy, but its therapeutic efficacy remains limited. The mRNA vaccine based on tumor antigens seems promising for cancer treatment. Ferroptosis, a novel form of cell death, is linked to tumor progression and cancer immunotherapy. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of ferroptosis-associated tumor antigens in treating HNSC remains uncertain. In this study, we identified three ferroptosis-associated tumor antigens, namely caveolin1 (CAV1), ferritin heavy chain (FTH1), and solute carrier 3A2 (SLC3A2), as being overexpressed and mutated based on data obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus databases. These antigens were strongly associated with poor prognosis and infiltration of antigen-presenting cells in HNSC. We further identified two ferroptosis subtypes (FS1 and FS2) with distinct molecular, cellular, and clinical properties to identify antigen-sensitive individuals. Our findings indicate that FS1 exhibits an immune “hot” phenotype, whereas FS2 displays an immune “cold” phenotype. Additionally, differential expression of immunogenic cell death modulators and immune checkpoints was observed between these two immune subtypes. Further exploration of the HNSC's immune landscape revealed significant heterogeneity among individual patients. Our findings suggest that CAV1, FTH1, and SLC3A2 are potential targets to prevent HNSC in FS2 patients. Overall, our research reveals the potential of ferroptosis-associated mRNA vaccines for HNSC and identifies an effective patient population for vaccine treatment.

Ischemic stroke (IS) is one of the leading causes of death and disability. Complicated mechanisms are involved in the pathogenesis of IS. Immunomodulatory mechanisms are crucial to IS. Acupuncture is a traditional non-drug treatment that has been extensively used to treat IS. The exploration of neuroimmune modulation will broaden the understanding of the mechanisms underlying acupuncture treatment. This review summarizes the immune response of immune cells, immune cytokines, and immune organs after an IS. The immunomodulatory mechanisms of acupuncture treatment on the central nervous system and peripheral immunity, as well as the factors that influence the effects of acupuncture treatment, were summarized. We suggest prospects and future directions for research on immunomodulatory mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for IS based on current progress, and we hope that these will provide inspiration for researchers. Additionally, acupuncture has shown favorable outcomes in the treatment of immune-based nervous system diseases, generating new directions for research on possible targets and treatments for immune-based nervous system diseases.

Abstract Epigenetic modifications have long been recognized as an essential level in transcriptional regulation linking behavior and environmental conditions or stimuli with biological processes and disease development. Among them, methylation is the most abundant of these reversible epigenetic marks, predominantly occurring on DNA, RNA, and histones. Methylation modification is intimately involved in regulating gene transcription and cell differentiation, while aberrant methylation status has been linked with cancer development in several malignancies. Early detection and precise restoration of dysregulated methylation form the basis for several epigenetics-based therapeutic strategies. In this review, we summarize the current basic understanding of the regulation and mechanisms responsible for methylation modification and cover several cutting-edge research techniques for detecting methylation across the genome and transcriptome. We then explore recent advances in clinical diagnostic applications of methylation markers of various cancers and address the current state and future prospects of methylation modifications in therapies for different diseases, especially comparing pharmacological methylase/demethylase inhibitors with the CRISPRoff/on methylation editing systems. This review thus provides a resource for understanding the emerging role of epigenetic methylation in cancer, the use of methylation-based biomarkers in cancer detection, and novel methylation-targeted drugs.

Abstract Intense cyclones driving extreme Arctic weather and climate events have been more frequently observed during recent years, causing dramatic environmental and socioeconomic impacts. However, inconsistencies have emerged about long-term changes in Arctic cyclone activity. Here we analyze multiple reanalysis datasets covering a multidecadal period with improvements to the cyclone tracking algorithm and the integrated cyclone activity metric. The results indicate an intensification of Arctic cyclone activity over the last seven decades. There has been a long-term shift of the maximum cyclone counts from weaker to stronger cyclones and a pronounced lengthening of the duration of strong cyclones. Spatial analysis shows increased strong cyclone frequency over the Arctic, driven by enhanced lower troposphere baroclinicity, amplified winter jet stream waves over the subpolar North Atlantic, and a strengthened summer tropospheric vortex over the central Arctic. The stratospheric vortex has also intensified the tropospheric waves and vortex with distinct dynamics between winter and summer. Recently enhanced baroclinicity over large areas of the Arctic and midlatitudes suggests more complicated atmospheric dynamics than what is hypothesized with Arctic-amplification-induced decrease in meridional temperature gradients.

The arid area of Northwest China belongs to the rain-fed agricultural area of the Loess Plateau, and water resources have become one of the important factors limiting agricultural development in this area. This study employed the AquaCrop model to predict the yield advantages and environmental adaptability of maize in Dingxi City from 2016 to 2020 under two cultivation practices: ridge tillage (100% film coverage with double ridge-furrow planting) and flat planting (81.8% film coverage with wide-film planting). The numerical simulation of the tillage and fertilization process of the double-ridge seedbed was carried out by EDEM, and the key components were tested by the Box–Behnken center combination test design principle to obtain the optimal parameter combination. The results showed that ridge planting was more suitable for agricultural planting in rain-fed arid areas in Northwest China. The simulation analysis of ridging and fertilization showed that the forward speed of the combined machine was 0.50 m/s, the rotation speed of the trough wheel of the fertilizer discharger was 39 rmp, and the rotary tillage depth was 150 mm. The qualified rate of seedbed tillage was 93.6%, and the qualified rate of fertilization was 92.1%. The research shows that the whole-film double ridge-furrow sowing technology of maize is more suitable for the rain-fed agricultural area in the arid area of Northwest China. The simulation results of the ridging fertilization device are consistent with the field experiment results. The research results provide a certain technical reference for the optimization of the whole-film double ridge-furrow sowing technology.

Microplastics are omnipresent in aquatic environments and can act as vectors to carry other pollutants, modifying their pathway through the systems. In this study, the differences in the adsorption capacity and mechanism for Cr(VI) sorption with polyethylene (PE, a conventional microplastic) and polylactic acid (PLA, a biodegradable microplastic) were investigated via characterization of the MPs, the determination of kinetic behavior (pseudo-first- and second-order model, the Elovich model), and the degree of fit to Langmuir and Freundlich isothermal models; the adsorption behavior was also studied under different solution conditions. The results indicated that when the dose of MPs was 1 g/L, the adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) on MPs reached the highest value, the adsorption capacities were PLA(0.415 mg/g) > PE(0.345 mg/g). The adsorption of Cr(VI) on PE followed the Langmuir isotherm model, while PLA had a stronger fit with the Freundlich model. Sorption in both cases followed a pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) on PLA (0.54 mg/g) is higher than that on PE (0.38 mg/g). In addition, PLA could reach adsorption equilibrium in about 8 h and can adsorb 72.3% of the total Cr(VI) within 4 h, while PE required 16 h to reach equilibrium, suggesting that PLA adsorbs at a significantly faster rate than PE. Thus, biodegradable MPs like PLA may serve as a superior carrier for Cr(VI) in aquatic environments. When the pH increased from 2 to 6, the adsorption of Cr(VI) by PE and PLA decreased from 0.49 mg/g and 0.52 mg/g to 0.27 mg/g and 0.26 mg/g, respectively. When the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate in the Cr(VI) solution was increased from nil to 300 mg/L, the adsorption of Cr(VI) by PE and PLA increased by 3.66 and 3.05 times, respectively. In addition, a higher temperature and the presence of Cu2+ and photoaging promoted the adsorption of Cr(VI) by MPs, while higher salinity inhibited the adsorption. The desorption efficiencies of Cr(VI) on MPs were PLA(57.8%) > PE(46.4%). The characterization results further confirmed that the adsorption mechanism could be attributed to electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and surface complexation. In sum, PLA could potentially serve as better vectors for Cr(VI) than PE, but the risk associated with PLA might be higher than that with PE.

Study region: Three subbasins with different karstification degrees in Southwest China. Study focus: To investigate the mechanism of karst influence on drought propagation, this paper used a daily-scale threshold level method to identify drought events and comparatively analyzed the differences in drought propagation characteristics among three subbasins. New hydrological insights for the region: (i) The karstification degree is appreciably correlated with the drought propagation from meteorological to hydrological droughts, and the stronger the karstification, the closer the relationship. (ii) Daily-scale drought events performed better in identifying drought characteristics; of all drought events, 55% were meteorological and 24% were hydrological and lasted

The inhibition of the immune response in the tumor microenvironment by therapy regimens can impede the eradication of tumors, potentially resulting in tumor metastasis. As a non-invasive therapeutic method, radiotherapy is utilized for tumor ablation. In this study, we aimed to improve the therapeutic impact of radiotherapy and trigger an immune response by formulating a benzothiazole sulfinate (BTS)-loaded fusion liposome (BFL) nanoplatform, which was then combined with radiotherapy for anti-cancer treatment. The platelet cell membrane, equipped with distinctive surface receptors, enables BFL to effectively target tumors while evading the immune system and adhering to tumor cells. This facilitates BFL’s engulfment by cancer cells, subsequently releasing BTS within them. Following the release, the BTS produces sulfur dioxide (SO2) for gas therapy, initiating the oxidation of intracellular glutathione (GSH). This process demonstrates efficacy in repairing damage post-radiotherapy, thereby achieving effective radiosensitization. It was revealed that an immune response was triggered following the enhanced radiosensitization facilitated by BFL. This approach facilitated the maturation of dendritic cell (DC) within lymph nodes, leading to an increase in the proportion of T cells in distant tumors. This resulted in significant eradication of primary tumors and inhibition of growth in distant tumors. In summary, the integration of personalized BFL with radiotherapy shows potential in enhancing both tumor immune response and the elimination of tumors, including metastasis.

Weeds compete with rice for sunlight and nutrients and are prone to harboring pathogens, leading to reduced rice yields. Addressing the issues of low weeding efficiency and weed mortality rates in existing inter-row weeding devices, the study proposes the design of a combination paddy field inter-row weeding wheel. The device’s operation process is theoretically analyzed based on the weed control requirements in the northeastern region of China, leading to the determination of specific structural parameters. This research conducted experiments on the mechanical properties of weed cutting to obtain geometric parameters for paddy field weeds. It was found that the range for the cutting gap of the dynamic–fixed blade is between 0.6 mm to 1.4 mm and the cutting angle is between 5° to 15°, resulting in the lowest peak cutting force for weeds. Using LS-DYNA R12.0.0 dynamic simulation software, a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) model of the weeding wheel–water–soil system was established. By employing the central composite experimental design principle and considering the soil stir rate and coupling stress as indicators, the optimal structural parameter combination for the device is obtained: a dynamic–fixed blade cutting gap of 1.4 mm, a cutting angle of 10.95°, and a dynamic blade install angle of −3.44°. Field experiments demonstrated that the device achieved an average weeding rate of 89.7% and an average seedling damage rate of 1.9%, indicating excellent performance. This study contributes to improving weed mortality rates and provides valuable guidance for inter-row mechanical weeding technology.

Perinatal and neonatal ischemic stroke is a significant cause of cognitive and behavioral impairments. Further research is needed to support models of neonatal ischemic stroke and advance our understanding of the mechanisms of infarction formation following such strokes. We used two different levels of photothrombotic stroke (PTS) models to assess stroke outcomes in neonatal mice. We measured brain damage, dynamic changes in glial cells, and neuronal expression at various time points within two weeks following ischemic injury. Our results from 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining and immunofluorescence staining showed that in the severe group, a dense border of astrocytes and microglia was observed within 3 days post infarct. This ultimately resulted in the formation of a permanent cortical cavity, accompanied by neuronal loss in the surrounding tissues. In the mild group, a relatively sparse arrangement of glial borders was observed 7 days post infarct. This was accompanied by intact cortical tissue and the restoration of viability in the brain tissue beyond the glial boundary. Additionally, neonatal ischemic injury leads to the altered expression of key molecules such as Aldh1L1 and Olig2 in immature astrocytes. In conclusion, we demonstrated the dynamic changes in glial cells and neuronal expression following different degrees of ischemic injury in a mouse model of PTS. These findings provide new insights for studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuroprotection and neural regeneration after neonatal ischemic injury.

Preharvest threshing is a harvesting method that focuses on collecting rice grains while leaving the rice straw unharvested. Investigating the interaction mechanism between the machine and rice during the operation process and its correlation with harvest losses is crucial for enhancing harvest quality. In this study, structural design and operational mechanism analysis of the combs was conducted through theoretical analysis. By extracting the relevant parameters of rice plants, a model of entire-plant rice during the harvesting period was established based on the discrete element method (DEM). Numerical simulation studies were conducted to clarify the interaction mechanism between the machinery and rice at different operating stages and under various operating parameters, as well as the impact of this interaction on operational quality. The simulation results revealed that various operating parameters had a significant impact on the sliding-cut effect between the combs and rice. A higher cylinder rotation speed enhanced the effect, whereas increased forward velocity hampered it. Additionally, the effect initially improved and then decreased with a higher threshing height. In the bench test, high-speed cameras were used to verify and further analyze the comb–rice interaction mechanism and explore the optimal working parameter combination. The results showed that at a rotation speed of 616 r/min, a forward velocity of 0.91 m/s, and a threshing height of 792 mm, the grain loss rate was 1.997%, and the impurity rate was 4.073%. The harvesting losses were effectively reduced, validating the effectiveness of the study on the interaction between the machinery and rice.

In order to solve the problems of poor hole-filling performance and the high seed-breakage rate of conventional rice bud seed precision hole direct seed-metering devices, a side-filled rice precision hole direct seed-metering device was developed, and the mechanism and force analyses for seeding operations were carried out. The key factors affecting seeding quality were determined: rotation speed, seeding angle and seeding height. By coupling the discrete element method (DEM) and multi-rigid body dynamics (MBD), the seed breakage rate and seeding performance at different rotation speeds were analyzed. Single-factor bench testing was used to analyze the effect of a duckbill unit on seeding performance under different factor levels. The three-factor and five-level quadratic regression orthogonal rotation center combination test methods were used to obtain the optimal working parameter combination. The test results showed that when the rotation speed was 47 r/min, the seeding angle was 19°, and the seeding height was 180 mm, the qualified index of seeding was 92.03%, the hole diameter qualified index was 91.62%, and the hole distance variation index was 7.17%. This study provides a reference for the research of mechanical rice sprouting seed-metering devices.

Root tensile strength is commonly affected by root morphology and fiber content, which combinedly affect the effectiveness of terrace hedgerow on controlling soil erosion in sloping farmland. However, the relationships between these root characteristics are still elusive. This study aimed to compare the root tensile strength, root morphologies, and root fiber contents, and quantify their differences among different plant species. Complete root systems of three terrace hedgerow plant species, i.e., O. bodinieri, V. villosa, and D. lablab L. were sampled for detecting root morphologies and fiber contents at different slope positions on a representative hillslope in karst trough valley. Single root specimens were collected to measure root tensile properties for these three plant species. Results showed that most root morphological parameters were the highest in O. bodinieri, followed by D. lablab L. Three plant species presented the same dominant diameter class as < 1.0 mm, and root volumes as < 1.50 cm3. Cellulose with contents closing to 50% was the main fiber type, and increased significantly linearly with the increasing root diameter in both O. bodinieri and V. villosa. The highest tensile strength and Young's modulus were found in D. lablab L., while the best ultimate tensile force and ultimate elongation were displayed in O. bodinieri. Root diameter showed negative power relationships with tensile strength and Young's modulus, a positive power relationship with ultimate tensile force, and a positive linear relationship with ultimate elongation. Our results will deepen the understanding of the terrace hedgerow functions for controlling soil erosion worldwide.

Abstract Existing bone tissue engineering strategies aim to achieve minimize surgical trauma, stabilize the injured area, and establish a dynamic osteogenic microenvironment. The cutting‐edge bone glue developed in this study satisfies these criteria. Inspired by the excellent adhesive properties of mussels, herein, a super osteogenic glue (L‐DPZ) that integrates poly(vinyl alcohol), L‐dopa amino acid, and zeolitic imidazolate framework‐8 characterized by catechol–metal coordination is used to successfully adhere to hard tissue with a maximum adhesive strength of 10 MPa, which is much higher than those of commercial and previously reported bone glues. The stable hard tissue adhesion also enables it to adhere strongly to luxated or broken teeth, Bio‐Oss (a typical bone graft material), and splice fragments from comminuted fractures of the rabbit femur. Then, it is testified that the L‐DPZ hydrogels exhibit satisfactory biocompatibility, stable degradability, and osteogenic ability in vitro. Moreover, the ability to anchor Bio‐Oss and sustained osteogenesis of L‐DPZ result in satisfactory healing in calvarial bone defect models in rabbits, as observed by increased bone thickness and the ingrowth of new bone tissue. These results are expected to demonstrate solutions to clinical dilemmas such as comminuted bone fracture fixation, bone defect reconstruction, and teeth dislocation replantation.

AimsThe distribution of residual esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the esophageal wall and resected lymph nodes was evaluated after neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (nICT).Methods and resultsClinical data were collected from 137 ESCC patients who underwent anti-programmed death 1 therapy and esophagectomy. Ninety (65.7%) achieved an major pathological response (MPR) in the esophageal wall, and 27 (19.7%) achieved an MPR in the lymph nodes. Pathologically complete response (pCR, ypT0N0) was observed in 26 patients (19%). Residual tumors located in the mucosa and/or submucosa were found in 94.6% of nonpCR patients. In the minor responders, 97.8% had residual tumor >10% in the mucosa or submucosa. A preferential regression direction toward the lumen was found in 76.4% of prepT2 nonpCR patients, or 60.7% of prepT3-4a nonpCR patients. The correlation between pCR in the esophageal wall and in lymph nodes was not significant (P=0.143). Among 19 patients with pCR in resected recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) lymph nodes, 31.6% had residual tumor cells in other resected lymph nodes. Digital rock twins are widely used to obtain hydraulic properties of porous media by simulating pore-scale fluid flow. Multifractal characteristics of pore geometry and flow velocity distribution have been discovered with two-dimensional (2D) images and three-dimensional (3D) models, whereas the dependency of results on the resolution is not well known. We investigated resolution-dependent multifractal properties of 3D twin models for a sandstone sample with originally 3 μm resolution images. 3D pore-scale water flow was simulated with the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). As indicated by multifractal analyses, the generalized dimension spectra, the Hölder exponent spectra, and singularity spectra of the flow velocity are similar to that of the pore geometry but different in ranges and sensitivities to the change in the model resolution. Nonlinear dependencies of 2D/3D porosity, holistic/slice permeability, equivalent pore radius squared, and multifractal parameters on the resolution were discussed.

Camellia sinensis var. Assamica cv. Duntsa (C.duntsa), a valuable Theaceae from Hunan Province, has been looked at as a precious tea resource by local farmers because of its economic and ecological value. Genomics study on C.duntsa is essential for the domestication and enhancement of tea tree varieties. In the present study, we used a hybrid approach based on Illumina and PacBio data to sequence and assemble the mitochondrial genome of C.duntsa. The mitochondrial genome of C.duntsa was estimated to be 1,081,996 base pairs (bp) and eighty-one genes consisting of one pseudogene, three ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, thirty transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and forty-seven protein-coding genes (PCGs). Tetramer repetitions made up 43.90% of simple sequence repeats (SSRs). The codon usage bias of the Theaceae mitochondrial gene atp9 was altered by mutation, but the codon usage of other genes was shaped by natural selection. Besides, there are eighteen gene-containing homologous regions between the chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes of C. duntsa.Some genomes including atp8, cox1, cox3, nad7, nad9, rpl16, rpl2, rps19, rps4, and sdh4 are absent in the mitochondrial genome of several Theaceae plant. However, C. duntsa maintains these genes integrity and functionality. Another gene, rps16, is either lacking from the mitochondrial genome of C. duntsa or is present as a pseudogene. C. duntsa and C. sinensis (OM809792) are very similar, as shown by a collinear match across four species of Theaceae; the most conservative genes are nad5, atp9, cox2, rps3, trnA-TGC, trnI-GAT, rrn18, trnV-GAC, and ccmFN. Similarly, the genome’s phylogenetic trees revealed that C. duntsa was the sister species to C. sinensis. The results confirmed that the C. duntsa and C. sinensis (OM809792) mitochondrial genome underwent gene rearrangement.In general, our results shows that genomic information from organelles can help us understand plant phylogeny and can also be used to make molecular markers and study how genetic traits change over time. Our research will contribute to the population genetics and evolution of tea plant.

In order to explore the quality of Baoqing guiding green tea and establish its evaluation system, 30 samples of Baoqing guiding green tea were selected to evaluate the sensory quality, and the contents of biochemical components such as water extract, tea polyphenols, caffeine, amino acids and soluble sugar and catechin composition were determined. At the same time, the quality of Baoqing guiding green tea was comprehensively evaluated by principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA), and the quality evaluation model of Baoqing guiding green tea was established. The results showed that the sensory of spring tea was the best, summer tea was the second, and autumn tea was the worst. The water extract content of Baoqing guiding green tea was 44.77%~49.17%, the content of tea polyphenols was 22.49%~26.84%, the content of caffeine was 4.89%~5.93%, the content of amino acids was 2.88%~5.84%, and the content of soluble sugar was 4.16%~7.02%, which showed the characteristics of high amino acid, high caffeine and high EGCG, and accorded with the biochemical characteristics of famous green tea. Successive years of straw mulching and returning straw to the fields in Northeast China have made strip-tillage necessary, and reasonable strip-tillage operations can create conditions for crop growth. However, there are limited research studies on the related equipment applicable to this area. In this paper, an automatic control strip-tillage machine is designed. According to the conventional planting pattern of maize in this region, the operative processes of the machine were determined, and a suitable strip seedbed structure could then be constructed under straw mulching conditions. The type of coulters and the structural parameters of the V-type soil-crushing wheel were determined through theoretical analysis. Based on the air spring and electric linear actuator, the plowing depth control system and the straw width control system were developed, respectively, so as to improve the stability of the machine operation. Field tests showed that when the forward speed, tillage depth, and theoretical width were 6–12 km/h, 6–12 cm, and 18–24 cm, respectively, the straw clearing rate, soil crushing rate, and tillage depth and breadth stability were higher than 90%, and the soil flatness was less than 2 cm. All the indexes satisfied the agronomic and technological requirements of corn cultivation. The results of this study can provide equipment and technical support for the further popularization of conservation tillage technology.

In order to accurately establish a discrete element model for the whole plant flexibility of upright rice during the harvesting period, several physical characteristics, such as geometric features, moisture content, and density, of the entire rice plant were measured, along with frictional properties, such as the static and rolling friction coefficients, and mechanical properties, including the elastic modulus and restitution coefficient. A flexible and upright discrete element model of the rice plant was established using the DEM method based on the Hertz–Mindlin (no slip) and Hertz–Mindlin with bonding mechanical models. The parameters were optimized through Plackett–Burman screening experiments, steepest ascent experiments, and Box–Behnken optimization experiments to accurately determine the discrete element model parameters of each component of the rice plant. The calibration process of the contact parameters between rice grains and steel was analyzed in detail as an example, resulting in a calibration error of 0.68% for the natural repose angle. Taking the calibration of the contact parameters between the main stem and steel as an example, a detailed analysis of the calibration process was conducted. The calibration resulted in a calibration error of 2.76% for the natural repose angle and 2.33% for deflection. This study lays the foundation for understanding the mechanical response of rice and machinery when they are coupled together. Additionally, it provides valuable references for establishing discrete element models of plant species other than rice.

The prediction of crop yield plays a crucial role in national economic development, encompassing grain storage, processing, and grain price trends. Employing multiple sensors to acquire remote sensing data and utilizing machine learning algorithms can enable accurate, fast, and nondestructive yield prediction for maize crops. However, current research heavily relies on single-type remote sensing data and traditional machine learning methods, resulting in the limited robustness of yield prediction models. To address these limitations, this study introduces a field-scale maize yield prediction model named the convolutional neural network–attention–long short-term memory network (CNN-attention-LSTM) model, which utilizes multimodal remote sensing data collected by multispectral and light detection and ranging (LIDAR) sensors mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The model incorporates meteorological data throughout the crop reproductive stages and employs the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference red edge (NDRE), soil-adjusted vegetation index (SAVI), and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) for the initial part of the vegetative stage (initial part of the V period), the later part of the vegetative stage (later part of the V period), the reproductive stage (R period), and the maturity stage (M period), along with LIDAR data for Point75–100 in the later part of the V period, Point80–100 in the R period, and Point50–100 in the M period, complemented by corresponding meteorological data as inputs. The resulting yield estimation demonstrates exceptional performance, with an R2 value of 0.78 and an rRMSE of 8.27%. These results surpass previous research and validate the effectiveness of multimodal data in enhancing yield prediction models. Furthermore, to assess the superiority of the proposed model, four machine learning algorithms—multiple linear regression (MLR), random forest regression (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and backpropagation (BP)—are compared to the CNN-attention-LSTM model through experimental analysis. The outcomes indicate that all alternative models exhibit inferior prediction accuracy compared to the CNN-attention-LSTM model. Across the test dataset within the study area, the R2 values for various nitrogen fertilizer levels consistently exceed 0.75, illustrating the robustness of the proposed model. This study introduces a novel approach for assessing maize crop yield and provides valuable insights for estimating the yield of other crops.

Osteosarcoma is a malignant bone cancer that usually occurs in children and adolescents. Although chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other methods have been used to treat osteosarcoma, these therapeutic regimens fail to cure this disease completely. Herein, doxorubicin-encapsulated iron–gallic acid (FeGA-DOX) nanoparticles (NPs) were fused with agarose hydrogels (AG) for synergistic therapy of osteosarcoma. Under near-infrared laser irradiation, the local temperature of FeGA-DOX NPs was increased. Therefore, tumour cells were killed using photothermal therapy, and AG dissolved to release FeGA-DOX into the cells. Doxorubicin generates hydrogen peroxide, which is then converted to reactive oxygen species (ROS) via FeGA-DOX by the Fenton reaction, inducing tumour cell apoptosis. ROS induced by chemodynamic therapy compensates for the incomplete cure of osteosarcoma cells. The AG-encapsulated NPs could mediate synergistic chemodynamic and photothermal therapy with self-sufficient H2O2, providing a novel therapeutic strategy for osteosarcoma.

Abstract Aim The aim of this study was to explore surgery decision conflict and its related factors among newly diagnosed early breast cancer patients in China. Design A cross‐sectional survey study was conducted. Methods A total of 262 patients confronted with surgery decision‐making were enrolled. The related factors were assessed with a demographic questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Decision Conflict Scale (DCS‐C‐16) and the Patient Participation Competence Scale (PPCS). Results Patients had a high level of decision conflict that was negatively correlated with the PPCS score. Age, marital status, living environment, education level, family income, cancer stage and the PPCS score were independent factors influencing decision conflict. Marital status, education level, cancer stage and participation competence were significant predictors of decision conflict. Patients who had higher participation competence were married, were well educated and had a lower cancer stage were likely to experience lower decision conflict.

Abstract Mechanical loads are fundamental regulators of bone formation and remodeling. However, the molecular regulation of mechanotransduction during vertebral laminae regeneration remains poorly understood. Here, we found that cerebrospinal fluid pulsation (CSFP) stress—cyclic pulsation stress—could promote the osteogenic and angiogenic abilities of rat mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), thereby promoting tissue-engineered laminae’s bone and blood vessel formation. In the process, F-actin relayed CSFP stress to promote the nuclear translocation of YAP1, which then decreased the degradation and promoted the nuclear translocation of β-Catenin. In turn, the nuclear translocation of β-Catenin promoted the osteogenic differentiation and angiogenic abilities of MSC, thereby promoting tissue-engineered laminae’s bone and blood vessel formation. Thus, we conclude that CSFP promotes the osteogenesis and angiogenesis of tissue-engineered laminae through the F-actin/YAP-1/β-Catenin signaling axis. This study advances our understanding of vertebral laminae regeneration and provides potential therapeutic approaches for spinal degeneration after spinal laminectomy.

Excessive subchondral angiogenesis is a key pathological feature of osteoarthritis (OA), as it alters the balance of subchondral bone remodeling and causes progressive cartilage degradation. We previously found that miR-210-3p correlates negatively with angiogenesis, though the specific mechanism of miR-210-3p-related angiogenesis in subchondral bone during OA progression remains unclear. This study was conducted to identify the miR-210-3p-modulating subchondral angiogenesis mechanism in OA and investigate its therapeutic effect. We found that miR-210-3p expression correlated negatively with subchondral endomucin positive (Emcn+) vasculature in the knee joints of OA mice. miR-210-3p overexpression regulated the angiogenic ability of endothelial cells (ECs) under hypoxic conditions in vitro. Mechanistically, miR-210-3p inhibited ECs angiogenesis by suppressing transforming growth factor beta receptor 1 (TGFBR1) mRNA translation and degrading DNA-binding inhibitor 4 (ID4) mRNA. In addition, TGFBR1 downregulated the expression of ID4. Reduced ID4 levels led to a negative feedback regulation of TGFBR1, enhancing the inhibitory effect of miR-210-3p on angiogenesis. In OA mice, miR-210-3p overexpression in ECs via adeno-associated virus (AAV) alleviated cartilage degradation, suppressed the type 17 immune response and relieved symptoms by attenuating subchondral Emcn+ vasculature and subchondral bone remodeling. In conclusion, we identified a miR-210-3p/TGFBR1/ID4 axis in subchondral ECs that modulates OA progression via subchondral angiogenesis, representing a potential OA therapy target.

This paper aims to solve the problems of the low quality and shallow depth of the traditional straw return method. According to the requirements of the new furrow burial and return agronomic model, a corn straw ditch-buried returning machine was designed that could simultaneously complete the processes of picking, conveying, ditching, soil-covering and pressing. Key components were theoretically analyzed and designed, such as the pickup device, ditching device and straw-guiding soil-covering and pressing device. Based on a field experiment, the main factors influencing the effects of straw picking, soil ditching and straw return were studied. Both forward speed and pickup device speed significantly affected the straw picking rate. The ditching area, ditching width consistency factor and ditching depth stability factor gradually decreased with increasing forward speed and gradually increased with increasing trenching device speed. There was a significant interaction among the forward speed, pickup device speed and ditching device speed. At a forward speed of 1.68 m/s, the picking device speed was 330 r/min, the ditching device speed was 290 r/min, and the highest straw return rate was 93.65%.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the leading cause of blindness among the elderly in western societies, is majorly accompanied by retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) degeneration. Because of the irreversible RPE cell loss among oxidative stress, it is crucial to search for available drugs for atrophic (dry) AMD. RNA-Seq analysis revealed that genes related to aging and mitochondrial health were differentially expressed under Arbutin treatment, whereas compared to oxidative injury, our study demonstrated that Arbutin substantially abrogated oxidative stress-induced cell senescence and apoptosis linked to intracellular antioxidant enzyme system homeostasis maintenance, restored mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and reduced the SA-β-GAL accumulation in RPE. Furthermore, Arbutin alleviated oxidative stress-mediated cell apoptosis and senescence via activation of SIRT1, as evidenced by the increase of the downstream FoxO3a and PGC-1α/β that are related to mitochondrial biogenesis, and the suppression of NF-κB p65 inflammasome, whereas rehabilitation of oxidative stress by SIRT1 inhibitor attenuated the protective effect of Arbutin. In conclusion, we validated the results in an in vivo model constructed by NAIO3-injured mice. OCT and HE staining showed that Arbutin sustained retinal integrity in the case of oxidative damage in vivo, and the disorder of RPE cytochrome was alleviated through fundus observation. In summary, our findings identified that oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial malfunction and the subsequent senescence acceleration in RPE cells, whereas Arbutin inhibited TBHP-induced RPE degeneration via regulating the SIRT1/Foxo3a/PGC-1α/β signaling pathway. These findings suggested that Arbutin is a new agent with potential applications in the development of AMD diseases.

With natural disasters occurring more frequently around the world, their impact on tourism is becoming a serious problem. The existing literature in the field of tourism disaster management focuses mostly on disaster impact analysis, risk assessment, and post-disaster recovery, while the impact of disaster on tourism and tourists is still a new topic. It is necessary to investigate the correlation between the natural disasters and the tourists’ behavior. Taking the famous tourism destination, Qinling Mountain, located in the middle of China, as an example where frequent mountain disasters happened, we investigated 542 youth group tourists using a questionnaire survey and analyzed the influence of risk perception, disaster knowledge, and emotional attachment on tourists’ travel behavioral intentions. The results showed that 1) risk perception has a negative effect on tourists’ behavioral intentions; 2) disaster knowledge and tourism emotional attachment have a positive effect on tourists’ behavioral intention; and 3) the moderation role of gender is not significant, while the moderation role of education level is significant. Therefore, this analysis is of great importance for research dealing with the theory of tourism disaster and the management practice of disaster-prone tourism destinations.

This study is aimed at the special working conditions of seeding on sloping land, combining advanced precision seeding technology and the structure of rotary hole filling corn precision metering device seed rowers at home and abroad, and studying soil entry characteristics, the characteristics of soil particles and the seed transport pattern in the puncture process, in order to improve the seed dispersal qualified index and reduce the coefficient of variation in the process of seeding. The simulation test of the cavity-tying device was carried out using the MBD–DEM coupling method, and it can be seen that the rocker bending angle is 120° when the force is the largest; at this time the rocker and the soil force is the largest, indicating the best effect on soil particle separation and the fastest movement speed. The single-factor test determined that the operating speed of the seed rower ranged from 0.8 to 1.2 m/s, the spring preload force of the seed rower ranged from 5.5 to 25 N, and the operating slope angle of the seed rower ranged from 8° to 16°. The optimal structure and parameter characteristics of the rotary hole filling corn precision metering device were determined with a multi-factor test, and it was proven that the rotary hole filling corn precision metering device has better performance and a higher seed rowing quality, with the qualified index reaching 96.2%. This study can provide a reference for the research of corn precision seeders, enrich the form of corn precision seeders, and effectively improve the level of corn mechanized seeding.

Abstract Background The adverse reactions (ADRs) of targeted therapy were closely associated with treatment response, clinical outcome, quality of life (QoL) of patients with cancer. However, few studies presented the correlation between ADRs of targeted therapy and treatment effects among cancer patients. This study was to explore the characteristics of ADRs with targeted therapy and the prognosis of cancer patients based on the clinical data. Methods A retrospective secondary data analysis was conducted within an ADR data set including 2703 patients with targeted therapy from three Henan medical centers of China between January 2018 and December 2019. The significance was evaluated with chi-square test between groups with or without ADRs. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression with backward stepwise method were applied to assess the difference of pathological characteristics in patients with cancer. Using the univariate Cox regression method, the actuarial probability of overall survival was performed to compare the clinical outcomes between these two groups. Results A total of 485 patients were enrolled in this study. Of all patients, 61.0% (n = 296) occurred ADRs including skin damage, fatigue, mucosal damage, hypertension and gastrointestinal discomfort as the top 5 complications during the target therapy. And 62.1% of ADRs were mild to moderate, more than half of the ADRs occurred within one month, 68.6% ADRs lasted more than one month. Older patients (P = 0.022) and patients with lower education level (P = 0.036), more than 2 comorbidities (P = 0.021), longer medication time (P = 0.022), drug combination (P = 0.033) and intravenous administration (P = 0.019) were more likely to have ADRs. Those with ADRs were more likely to stop taking (P = 0.000), change (P = 0.000), adjust (P = 0.000), or not take the medicine on time (P = 0.000). The number of patients with recurrence (P = 0.000) and metastasis (P = 0.006) were statistically significant difference between ADRs and non-ADRs group. And the patients were significantly poor prognosis in ADRs groups compared with non-ADRs group. Conclusion The high incidence of ADRs would affect the treatment and prognosis of patients with cancer. We should pay more attention to these ADRs and develop effective management strategies.

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes 90% of photodamage to skin and long-term exposure to UV irradiation is the largest threat to skin health. To study the mechanism of UV-induced photodamage and the repair of sunburnt skin, the key problem to solve is how to non-destructively and continuously evaluate UV-induced photodamage to skin. In this study, a method to quantitatively analyze the structural and tissue optical parameters of artificial skin (AS) using optical coherence tomography (OCT) was proposed as a way to non-destructively and continuously evaluate the effect of photodamage. AS surface roughness was achieved based on the characteristic peaks of the intensity signal of the OCT images, and this was the basis for quantifying AS cuticle thickness using Dijkstra’s algorithm. Local texture features within the AS were obtained through the gray-level co-occurrence matrix method. A modified depth-resolved algorithm was used to quantify the 3D scattering coefficient distribution within AS based on a single-scattering model. A multiparameter assessment of AS photodamage was carried out, and the results were compared with the MTT experiment results and H&E staining. The results of the UV photodamage experiments showed that the cuticle of the photodamaged model was thicker (56.5%) and had greater surface roughness (14.4%) compared with the normal cultured AS. The angular second moment was greater and the correlation was smaller, which was in agreement with the results of the H&E staining microscopy. The angular second moment and correlation showed a good linear relationship with the UV irradiation dose, illustrating the potential of OCT in measuring internal structural damage. The tissue scattering coefficient of AS correlated well with the MTT results, which can be used to quantify the damage to the bioactivity. The experimental results also demonstrate the anti-photodamage efficacy of the vitamin C factor. Quantitative analysis of structural and tissue optical parameters of AS by OCT enables the non-destructive and continuous detection of AS photodamage in multiple dimensions.

In order to explore the influence of soil force on rotary soil-engaging components during their operation, a kinetic parameter measurement system of rotary soil-engaging components was developed via the sensor strain measurement technique. By taking a single-sided compacting ridge device as an example, the kinetic experiment was carried out on the operation parameters of the compacting device and obtained the variation law of the force of the soil on the pinnae. ADAMS software was used to simulate the operation of the compacting device under different experimental factors (soil moisture content, forward speed of the ridge device, and the rotation speed of the compacting device), and the test data were obtained; the experiment was carried out with the forward speed of the soil tanker and the rotation speed of the compacting device as the experimental factors, and the average of the force of soil on the pinnae and the firmness value of the ridge were the experimental indicators. The results showed that under a moisture content of 27%, the forward speed of the device was 0.8 km∙h−1, the maximum firmness of the ridge was 1233.21 kPa, the minimum firmness of the ridge was 953.85 kPa, and the coefficient of variation of the stability of the firmness value of the ridge was 8.04; the force of the pinnae on the soil increased with an increase in the forward speed of the soil tanker, and the variation range of the force was 2838.1–5695.2 N. It was verified that the design of this operation parameter measurement system for rotary soil-engaging components meets the practical requirements and also provides an important reference for the measurement of the relevant parameters of similar rotary soil-engaging components.

While generative artificial intelligence participates in human creative activities on a large scale, it cannot be a natural human subject or an anthropomorphic subject because of its lack of rationality. However, copyright law encourages the creation of works, and under certain conditions, artificial intelligence generated content is conducive to the realization of the legislative purpose of copyright law and satisfies the objective criteria of originality of works, and therefore, such content has copyrightability. Under this premise, the attribution of artificial intelligence generated content copyright needs to be discussed. At present, there are designer’s, user’s and owner’s views on its attribution. According to the current copyright law, in principle, the copyright of artificial intelligence generated content belongs to the user, but in special cases, it belongs to legal persons, employers, trustees and other subjects, unless otherwise agreed by the parties.

The deep application of liquid fertilizer in paddy fields is a fertilization technique that applies liquid fertilizer deep near the root system of paddy field crops, which can effectively improve the absorption rate of the crops and reduce the amount of fertilizer applied. In the cold regions of China, the soil return rate of the furrowing operation of the deep application of liquid fertilizer in paddy fields is low, which can easily cause the excessive liquid leakage of fertilizer and affect crop growth. Therefore, it is difficult to popularize in large areas. According to the characteristics of paddy soil in the cold regions of China and the operating requirements of a high backfill rate and low disturbance rate of the soil of the deep application of liquid fertilizer, this paper designed a bionic liquid fertilizer deep application furrow opener based on the claw-toe structure of the muskrat. In this study, an indoor soil bin test was conducted by constructing a deep application environment for the liquid fertilizer in paddy fields. The results of the soil bin test showed the effects of the key operating parameters of the bionic design of the liquid fertilizer deep application furrow opener, spraying pressure of the liquid fertilizer and operating speed on the furrowing resistance, soil disturbance rate and the leakage amount of liquid fertilizer. The bionic design of the liquid fertilizer deep application furrow opener has a low soil disturbance rate and leakage amount of fertilizer when the operating speed is 0.8 m s−1, and the spraying pressure is 0.2 MPa. This furrow opener significantly improves the operating performance of the deep application of liquid fertilizer in the cold regions of China and is suitable for the deep application of liquid fertilizer in the paddy fields of this region.

To solve multiple problems, such as the poor seeding process stability in the conventional finger-clip precision corn seed metering device and the inability to monitor the seeding effect, a long-belt finger-clip precision seed metering device was optimized and designed. The overall structure and working principle were described, and the mechanism of smooth transport and delivery was analyzed. A diffuse reflection photoelectric sensor and rectangular optical fiber sensor were used to monitor the number of corn seeds in the seeding process, and the states of multiple and miss seeding were calculated. A corn seeding quality monitoring system was designed. In this study, the seed metering performance of the long-belt finger-clip precision seed metering device was compared to that of the conventional finger-clip precision corn seed metering device. It was shown that the reseeding index, the miss-seeding index and the coefficient of variation can be effectively reduced with increasing seed metering tray speed. At the maximum speed of 65r/min, the qualified index increased from 75.75 to 84.70%, the reseeding index decreased from 13.66 to 8.49%, the miss-seeding index decreased from 10.59 to 6.81%, and the coefficient of variation decreased from 20.69 to 6.83%. The variations of these four evaluation parameters with the seed metering tray rotating speed were analyzed. Furthermore, the effects of the seeding frequency and seeding speed on the four evaluation parameters were studied through single factor and variance analyses. The results showed that the relative errors of the qualified index, the reseeding index, the miss-seeding index and the seeding amount increased gradually with the increase in the seed metering tray rotating speed, and the monitoring accuracy of the sensor decreased gradually. The accuracy of sensor monitoring decreased with increasing seeding frequency and seeding speed. This study provides an optimized scheme for the smooth delivery and movement of conventional seed metering devices and provides a technical reference for the development and design of monitoring systems with multiple index and the miss-seeding index of seed metering devices.

This paper aims to solve the problem of high reseeding rates and mis-seeding rates in the rice multi-grain hole direct seeding process. A multi grain cluster air suction type rice hill direct seed metering device was developed, and its seeding mechanism was analyzed. Based on CFD-DEM coupling simulation and bench tests, this study explored and optimized the performance of the seed metering device, and carried out the seeding adaptability test. The simulation results were as follows: when the negative pressure was −5 kPa, the static pressure, dynamic pressure and velocity of the flow field reached the maximum. When the negative pressure was −4 kPa, the qualification index was 89.62%, the reseeding index was 4.36%, and the mis-seeding index was 6.02%. The results of the orthogonal rotation combination test of three factors and five levels showed that when the rotation speed, negative pressure and the length of stirring brush were 20.70 rpm, −4.0 kPa and 10.50 mm respectively, the seed metering performance was the best, the qualification index was 90.85%, the reseeding index was 4.41% and the mis-seeding index was 4.74%. The seed metering device had strong adaptability to the sowing of different rice varieties, and met the agronomic requirements of direct seeding and seeding in rice holes.

Liquid fertilizer has many advantages, such as low production cost and little environmental pollution. Liquid fertilizer open furrow strip application method is widely used in fertilizer application operation. The widely used core-share furrow opener has a high operational resistance, disturbing the soil, hurting the crop roots, causing the liquid fertilizer to volatilize and deteriorating the fertilization effect. In this study, based on the streamline curve of the sturgeon body, we designed several bionic sturgeon liquid fertilizer deep application openers by combining bionics and analyzed the effects of several openers under different operating speeds on open furrow resistances and soil disturbance based on the discrete element method. The mechanism of open furrow resistances reduction and efficient soil backfill of the bionic structure were verified by indoor soil bin tests. The test results show that, compared with the core-share type furrow opener, both open furrow resistances and soil disturbance of the bionic sturgeon liquid fertilizer deep application opener are smaller. This study provides theoretical and practical references for the design of liquid fertilizer deep application openers.

Using data of 26 cities in China from 2004 to 2017, the green total factor productivity is investigated by the SMM-GML method. The corresponding empirical analysis is conducted with the DID model. This paper investigates the relation between low-carbon pilot policy (LCC) and green total factor productivity and discusses the mediating effect of industrial structure and the number of R&D staff (RDS). First, we find that LCC has a significant effect on pilot cities’ GTFP. And, it also promotes GTFP via industrial structure. Second, LCC can improve industrial structure optimization and realization, and industrial structure realization affects GTFP significantly, while optimization cannot. Third, LCC cannot attract more RDS, and RDS harms local GDFP because of talent misallocation. At last, the rate of GTFP presented different upward trends in the order of non-eastern cities and eastern cities. The effect of LCC on GTFP is significant in non-eastern cities, but not eastern ones, which clearly demonstrates the imbalanced development of the green economy. Therefore, the governments of eastern and non-eastern regions should adopt different measures based on local conditions in industrial structure transformation and recruitment and strengthen environmental regulations to make the effect of the low-carbon policy lasting and promote GTFP growth balance in all regions.

To study the accumulation characteristics of rice seeds with different moisture content, an accurate model of rice seeds was established by 3D scanning technology. The accumulation state of rice seeds by the “point source” accumulation method was analyzed by proportioning and measuring the simulation parameters with different moisture content. The accumulation process was simulated at 10.23%, 14.09%, 17.85%, 21.77%, 26.41% and 29.22% moisture content, respectively. The velocity and force state of the seeds were visually analyzed by using the accumulation process with a moisture content of 29.22%. The accumulation process was divided into four stages according to the velocity characteristics of the seeds. The average force and kinetic energy of the rice seeds outside the cylinder were obtained, and the average force of the rice seeds outside the cylinder was proved to be the direct cause of the velocity change during the accumulation process. The mechanical characteristics of rice seeds in the quasi-static accumulation stage were partitioned and systematically analyzed. The force distribution of the “central depression” structure of rice seeds with a moisture content of 10.23%, 14.09% and 17.85% on the horizontal surface appeared. The higher the moisture content of rice seeds, the more likely the typical “circular” force structure appeared, and the more uniformly the force on the horizontal surface was distributed in the circumference direction.
