The electron antinuetrino flux limits are presented for the brightest gamma-ray burst (GRB) of all time, GRB221009A, over a range of 1.8-200 MeV using the Kamioka Liquid Scintillator Anti Neutrino Detector (KamLAND). Using a variety of time windows to search for electron antineutrinos coincident with the GRB, we set an upper limit on the flux under the assumption of various neutrino source spectra. No excess was observed in any time windows ranging from seconds to days around the event trigger time. In this paper, we propose a quantum algorithm for solving the linear advection-diffusion equation by employing a new approximate probabilistic imaginary-time evolution (PITE) operator which improves the existing approximate PITE. First, the effectiveness of the proposed approximate PITE operator is justified by the theoretical evaluation of the error. Next, we construct the explicit quantum circuit for realizing the imaginary-time evolution of the Hamiltonian coming from the advection-diffusion equation, whose gate complexity is logarithmic regarding the size of the discretized Hamiltonian matrix. Numerical simulations using gate-based quantum emulator for 1D/2D examples are also provided to support our algorithm. Finally, we extend our algorithm to the coupled system of advection-diffusion equations, and we also compare our proposed algorithm to some other algorithms in the previous works. We find that our algorithm gives comparable result to the Harrow-Hassidim-Lloyd (HHL) algorithm with similar gate complexity, while we need much less ancillary qubits. Besides, our algorithm outperforms a specific HHL algorithm and a variational quantum algorithm (VQA) based on the finite difference method (FDM)., Comment: 58 pages, 23 figures

We present a search for neutrinoless double-beta ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay of $^{136}$Xe using the full KamLAND-Zen 800 dataset with 745 kg of enriched xenon, corresponding to an exposure of $2.097$ ton yr of $^{136}$Xe. This updated search benefits from a more than twofold increase in exposure, recovery of photo-sensor gain, and reduced background from muon-induced spallation of xenon. Combining with the search in the previous KamLAND-Zen phase, we obtain a lower limit for the $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay half-life of $T_{1/2}^{0\nu} > 3.8 \times 10^{26}$ yr at 90% C.L., a factor of 1.7 improvement over the previous limit. These proceedings summarize the program and discussions of the ``Workshop on Xenon Detector $0\nu\beta\beta$ Searches: Steps Towards the Kilotonne Scale'' held on October 25-27 2023 at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Preceding a core-collapse supernova, various processes produce an increasing amount of neutrinos of all flavors characterized by mounting energies from the interior of massive stars. Among them, the electron antineutrinos are potentially detectable by terrestrial neutrino experiments such as KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande via inverse beta decay interactions. Once these pre-supernova neutrinos are observed, an early warning of the upcoming core-collapse supernova can be provided. In light of this, KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande, both located in the Kamioka mine in Japan, have been monitoring pre-supernova neutrinos since 2015 and 2021, respectively. Recently, we performed a joint study between KamLAND and Super-Kamiokande on pre-supernova neutrino detection. A pre-supernova alert system combining the KamLAND detector and the Super-Kamiokande detector was developed and put into operation, which can provide a supernova alert to the astrophysics community. Fully leveraging the complementary properties of these two detectors, the combined alert is expected to resolve a pre-supernova neutrino signal from a 15 M$_{\odot}$ star within 510 pc of the Earth, at a significance level corresponding to a false alarm rate of no more than 1 per century. We have developed a simple detection scheme to study spin waves excited by surface acoustic wave (SAW) in ferromagnetic thin films. Metallic antennas made of Ta and a ferromagnetic element are placed along the SAW propagation path. The SAW excites spin waves in the ferromagnetic element and induces acoustoelectric current in the antennas, which are detected as a DC voltage. The DC voltage takes an extremum at the spin wave resonance condition, which demonstrates that the antenna acts as a non-local spin wave detector. The antennas placed before and after the ferromagnetic element along the SAW propagation path can probe spin wave excitation from reflected and transmitted SAWs, respectively. Interestingly, we find characteristics of spin wave excitations that are different for the reflected and transmitted SAWs: the former excites spin waves with larger frequency with broader linewidth compared to the latter. The results show that the antennas act as a non-local spin wave power detector and can be used to map out the spin wave spectra in a unique way, providing insights into the magnon-phonon coupling in magnetic nanostructures fabricated on phononic SAW devices.

Radiation measurement relies on pulse detection, which can be performed using various configurations of high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). For optimal power consumption, design simplicity, system flexibility, and the availability of DSP slices, we consider the Radio Frequency System-on-Chip (RFSoC) to be a more suitable option than traditional setups. To this end, we have developed custom RFSoC-based electronics and verified its feasibility. The ADCs on RFSoC exhibit a flat frequency response of 1-125 MHz. The root-mean-square (RMS) noise level is 2.1 ADC without any digital signal processing. The digital signal processing improves the RMS noise level to 0.8 ADC (input equivalent 40 Vrms). Baseline correction via digital signal processing can effectively prevent photomultiplier overshoot after a large pulse. Crosstalk between all channels is less than -55 dB. The measured data transfer speed can support up to 32 kHz trigger rates (corresponding to 750 Mbps). Overall, our RFSoC-based electronics are highly suitable for pulse detection, and after some modifications, they will be employed in the Kamioka Liquid Scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector (KamLAND)., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures

Particle dark matter could belong to a multiplet that includes an electrically charged state. WIMP dark matter ($\chi^{0}$) accompanied by a negatively charged excited state ($\chi^{-}$) with a small mass difference (e.g. $<$ 20 MeV) can form a bound-state with a nucleus such as xenon. This bound-state formation is rare and the released energy is $\mathcal{O}(1-10$) MeV depending on the nucleus, making large liquid scintillator detectors suitable for detection. We searched for bound-state formation events with xenon in two experimental phases of the KamLAND-Zen experiment, a xenon-doped liquid scintillator detector. No statistically significant events were observed. For a benchmark parameter set of WIMP mass $m_{\chi^{0}} = 1$ TeV and mass difference $\Delta m = 17$ MeV, we set the most stringent upper limits on the recombination cross section times velocity $\langle\sigma v\rangle$ and the decay-width of $\chi^{-}$ to $9.2 \times 10^{-30}$ ${\rm cm^3/s}$ and $8.7 \times 10^{-14}$ GeV, respectively at 90% confidence level.

We use a surface acoustic wave (SAW) cavity resonator to study the coupling of acoustic magnons in a synthetic antiferromagnet (SAF) and the phonons carried by SAWs. The SAF is composed of a CoFeB/Ru/CoFeB trilayer and the scattering matrix of the SAW resonator is studied to assess the coupling. We find that the spectral linewidth of the SAW resonator is modulated when the frequency of the excited magnons approaches the SAW resonance frequency. Moreover, the linewidth modulation varies with the magnitude and orientation of the external magnetic field. Such change in the spectral linewidth can be well reproduced using macrospin-like model calculations. From the model analyses, we estimate the magnon-phonon coupling strength to be $\sim$15.6 MHz at a SAW resonance frequency of 1.8 GHz: the corresponding magnomechanical cooperativity is $\sim$0.66. As the spectral shape hardly changes in a CoFeB single layer reference sample under the same experimental condition, these results show that SAF provides an ideal platform to study magnon-phonon coupling in a SAW cavity resonator.

We have developed an approach to determine the magnetoelastic coupling constant of magnetic layers in thin film heterostructures. The film is formed on a piezoelectric substrate between two interdigital transducers (IDT), a platform often used to construct a surface acoustic wave device. With the substrate piezoelectricity, strain is induced into the film by applying a dc voltage to the IDTs. The strain causes changes in the magnetization direction of the magnetic layer, which is probed by measuring changes, if any, in the transverse resistance of the heterostructure. We find the extracted magnetoelastic coupling constant of the magnetic layer (CoFeB) depends on the film stacking. Such change can be accounted for provided that the elastic properties of the layers that constitute the heterostructures are taken into account. The on-chip all-electrical approach described here provides a versatile means to quantitatively assess the magnetoelastic coupling constant of thin film heterostructures.

We studied helicity resolved Raman scattering in PtSe$_2$ flakes with different thicknesses. The peak amplitude of helicity-switched Raman scattering is significantly larger than that of helicity-conserved scattering for the in-plane $E_{g}$ mode, consistent with the Raman tensor analyses and conservation law of angular momentum. The peak amplitude of the helicity-switched $E_{g}$ mode is larger for the thinner flakes. In addition, we find Raman peaks near the energy levels of infrared (IR)-active $E_u$ and $A_{2u}$ modes, only for monolayer and a few-layers thick flakes. Interestingly, these peaks manifest themselves only for helicity-switched Raman scattering; they are nearly absent for helicity-conserved scattering.
