Simple Summary: Given the low incidence, heterogeneous behavior, and diverse anatomical sites of salivary gland cancer (SGC), there are a limited number of clinical studies on its management. This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to report the cumulative evidence on postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for SGC of the head and neck. Based on 2962 patients with SGC from 26 studies, this study demonstrated the long-term survival and toxicities of PORT as a local treatment modality for SGC. Considering the suboptimal disease-free survival and distant metastasis-dominant recurrent patterns, however, an intensified treatment strategy is needed. This study reports the cumulative evidence of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) for SGC of the head and neck. Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases between 7th and 10th November 2023. Results: A total of 2962 patients from 26 studies between 2007 and 2023 were included in this meta-analysis. The median RT dose was 64 Gy (range: 56–66 Gy). The median proportions of high-grade, pathological tumor stage 3 or 4 and pathological lymph node involvement were 42% (0–100%), 40% (0–77%), and 31% (0–75%). The pooled locoregional control rates at 3, 5, and 10 years were 92% (95% confidence interval [CI], 89–94%), 89% (95% CI, 86–93%), and 84% (95% CI, 73–92%), respectively. The pooled disease-free survival (DFS) rates at 3, 5, and 10 years were 77% (95% CI, 70–83%), 67% (95% CI, 60–74%), and 61% (95% CI, 55–67%), respectively. The pooled overall survival rates at 3, 5, and 10 years were 84% (95% CI, 79–88%), 75% (95% CI, 72–79%), and 68% (95% CI, 62–74%), respectively. Severe late toxicity ≥ grade 3 occurred in 7% (95% CI, 3–14%). Conclusion: PORT showed favorable long-term efficacy and safety in SGC, especially for patients with high-grade histology. Background: The prognostic value of conducting 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging has yielded different results in patients with laryngeal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer, but these results are controversial, and there is a lack of dedicated studies on each type of cancer. This study aimed to evaluate whether combining radiomic analysis of pre- and post-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging features and clinical parameters has additional prognostic value in patients with laryngeal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer. Methods: From 2008 to 2016, data on patients diagnosed with cancer of the larynx and hypopharynx were retrospectively collected. The patients underwent pre- and post-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging. The values of ΔPre-Post PET were measured from the texture features. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression was used to select the most predictive features to formulate a Rad-score for both progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Kaplan–Meier curve analysis and Cox regression were employed to assess PFS and OS. Then, the concordance index (C-index) and calibration plot were used to evaluate the performance of the radiomics nomogram. Results: Study data were collected for a total of 91 patients. The mean follow-up period was 71.5 mo. (8.4–147.3). The Rad-score was formulated based on the texture parameters and was significantly associated with both PFS (p = 0.024) and OS (p = 0.009). When predicting PFS, only the Rad-score demonstrated a significant association (HR 2.1509, 95% CI [1.100–4.207], p = 0.025). On the other hand, age (HR 1.116, 95% CI [1.041–1.197], p = 0.002) and Rad-score (HR 33.885, 95% CI [2.891–397.175], p = 0.005) exhibited associations with OS. The Rad-score value showed good discrimination when it was combined with clinical parameters in both PFS (C-index 0.802–0.889) and OS (C-index 0.860–0.958). The calibration plots also showed a good agreement between the observed and predicted survival probabilities. Conclusions: Combining clinical parameters with radiomics analysis of pre- and post-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT parameters in patients with laryngeal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer might have additional prognostic value. It is well known that renal dysfunction has a devastating effect on the prognosis of liver cirrhosis. In this study, the aim was to assess whether the incorporation of the kidney dysfunction type into the MELD-Na score enhances its predictive capacity for outcomes in patients awaiting liver transplantation (LT), compared to utilizing the MELD 3.0 score with albumin. In total, 2080 patients awaiting the LT were enrolled at two tertiary care institutions in Korea. Discrimination abilities were analyzed by using Harrell's c-index and iAUC values between MELD-Na-kidney dysfunction type (MELD-Na-KT) and MELD 3.0 with albumin. Clinical endpoints encompassed 3-month survival, 3-month transplant-free survival (TFS), overall survival (OS), and total TFS. Out of the total of 2080 individuals, 669 (32.16%) were male. Regarding the types of renal function impairment, 1614 (77.6%) were in the normal group, 112 (5.38%) in the AKD group, 320 (15.35%) in the CKD group, and 34 (1.63%) were in the AKD on CKD group. MELD 3.0 with albumin showed better discrimination (c-index = 0.714) compared to MELD-Na-KT (c-index = 0.708) in predicting 3-month survival. Similar results were observed for OS, 3-month TFS, and total TFS as well. When divided by sex, MELD 3.0 with albumin showed the comparable prediction of 3-month survival to MELD-Na-KT (c-index 0.675 vs. 0.671, p-value 0.221) in males. However, in the female group, MELD 3.0 with albumin demonstrated better results compared to MELD-Na-KT (c-index 0.733 vs. 0.723, p-value 0.001). The integration of kidney dysfunction types into the MELD-Na did not yield superior prognostic results compared to the MELD 3.0 score with albumin. Rather, in the female group, the MELD 3.0 score with albumin was better able to predict survival. These findings suggest that laboratory values pertaining to liver dysfunction or creatinine levels may be more significant than the type of kidney dysfunction when predicting the short-term prognosis of LT candidates. The purpose of this study was to test several modifications of the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement by incorporating osteoconductive and biodegradable materials for enhancing bone regeneration capacity in an osteoporotic rat model. Three bio‐composites (PHT‐1 [80% PMMA, 16% HA, 4% β‐TCP], PHT‐2 [70% PMMA, 24% HA, 6% β‐TCP], and PHT‐3 [30% PMMA, 56% HA, 14% β‐TCP]) were prepared using different concentrations of PMMA, hydroxyapatite (HA), and β‐tricalcium phosphate (β‐TCP). Their morphological structure was then examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and mechanical properties were determined using a MTS 858 Bionics test machine (MTS, Minneapolis, MN, USA). For in vivo studies, 35 female Wister rats (250 g, 12 weeks of age) were prepared and divided into five groups including a sham group (control), an ovariectomy‐induced osteoporosis group (OVX), an OVX with pure PMMA group (PMMA), an OVX with PHT‐2 group (PHT‐2), and an OVX with PHT‐3 group (PHT‐3). In vivo bone regeneration efficacy was assessed using micro‐CT and histological analysis after injecting the prepared bone cement into the tibial defects of osteoporotic rats. SEM investigation showed that the PHT‐3 sample had the highest porosity and roughness among all samples. In comparison to other samples, the PHT‐3 exhibited favorable mechanical properties for use in vertebroplasty procedures. Micro‐CT and histological analysis of OVX‐induced osteoporotic rats revealed that PHT‐3 was more effective in regenerating bone and restoring bone density than other samples. Background and Purpose: The diagnostic value of vertebral artery foraminal segment (V2) ultrasonography remains unclear. This study aimed to estimate the predictive value of V2 Doppler imaging for the detection of vertebrobasilar stenosis or occlusion. Methods: Three hundred sixty‐four vertebral arteries from 182 patients were investigated. Abnormal Doppler spectra were categorized as high‐resistance flow (resistive index ≥0.9), low‐resistance flow (resistive index ≤0.5), increased flow velocity (peak systolic velocity ≥137.5 cm/second), or no flow signal. On MR angiography, stenosis and occlusion were defined as >50% narrowing and absent flow signals, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated. Results: Sixty of 364 vertebral arteries (16.5%) had V2 Doppler abnormalities, while 89 vertebrobasilar arteries (24.5%) had a stenosis or occlusion. The Doppler abnormalities predicted any stenosis or occlusion in the vertebrobasilar artery with a sensitivity of 56.2% and specificity of 96.4% (PPV, 83.3%; NPV, 87.2%). The hypoplastic vertebral artery (lumen diameter ≤2.7 mm) was more frequently associated with vertebrobasilar stenosis or occlusion, and with abnormal Doppler spectra (mostly high‐resistance flow), even when it was nonstenotic, than the normal‐diameter vertebral artery (p <.001, chi‐square test). Conclusions: : The low sensitivity seems to be due to the high prevalence of non‐V2 lesions not detected on V2 Doppler imaging, suggesting the necessity for a more extensive sonographic examination beyond V2. We aimed to examine the associations of cardiovascular risk factors with myocardial perfusion reserve (MPR) in patients with type 2 diabetes and stable coronary artery disease. The study patients were retrospectively identified from a database of patients with diabetes and stable coronary artery disease at Asan Medical Center (Seoul, Republic of Korea), covering the period from 2017 to 2019. The primary outcome variable was MPR assessed by dynamic stress 201Tl/rest 99mTc-tetrofosmin SPECT. Univariable and stepwise multivariable analyses were performed to assess the associations of cardiovascular risk factors with MPR. A total of 276 patients (236 men and 40 women) were included. The median global MPR was 2.4 (interquartile range 1.9–3.0). Seventy-five (27.2%) patients had an MPR < 2.0. Multivariable linear regression showed that smoking (ß = − 0.44, 95% confidence interval − 0.68 to − 0.21, P < 0.001), hypertension (ß = − 0.24, 95% confidence interval − 0.47 to − 0.02, P = 0.033), and summed difference score (ß = − 0.05, 95% confidence interval − 0.07 to − 0.03, P < 0.001) were independently associated with MPR. Abnormal MPR (< 2.0) was associated with a higher incidence of cardiac death or myocardial infarction (P = 0.034). MPR assessed by dynamic stress 201Tl/rest 99mTc-tetrofosmin SPECT was impaired in a large cohort of patients with diabetes. After adjusting for risk variables, including standard myocardial perfusion imaging characteristics, smoking, and hypertension were associated with MPR. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors contributing to the occurrence of systemic toxicity in patients injured after skin exposure to hydrofluoric acid (HFA) and to present guidelines for active treatment intervention based on this analysis. Data were acquired from EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane library for individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis. Key searching terms included calcium gluconate (CAG), hydrofluoric acid, and case. This research consisted of case studies published between 1979 and 2020. Systemic toxicity was set as the main outcome. Data sets from 50 case studies (N = 125 participants) were analyzed. Multivariate binary logistic regression analyses of IPD found significant association effect of the total body surface area (TBSA) burned, indicating systemic toxicity [Regression coefficient estimate, 0.82; SE , 0.41; Odds ratio, 2.28; [95% confidence interval, 1.03–5.06], and p = 0.0424]. The optimal cutoff point (sensitivity; specificity) of the receiver operating characteristic curve of the total body surface area (TBSA) burned for contributing occurrence of systemic toxicity was 2.38(0.875; 0.959). IPD meta-analysis indicates that existing evidence supports the positive proportional association of the TBSA burned for systemic toxicity. If the TBSA burned (%) in patients exposed to hydrofluoric acid is greater than 2.38, early aggressive treatment intervention, including decontamination and various CAG application, should be recommended as the guideline.
