Abstract Didymocarpus heucherifolius Hand.-Mazz. is plant of the genus Didymocarpus wall. (Gesneriaceae). Species in this genus have long been used in folk medicine to treat various illnesses, including wounds, kidney stones, inflammations, asthma, influenza, etc. However, there are few studies on chemical components. Crude plant extracts are a complex mixture of several biologically active specialized metabolites. Therefore, a rapid and accurate identification and quantification are critical in phytochemical analysis. An efficient approach based on molecular networking strategy coupled with ultra high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with Q-Exactive Orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC Q-Exactive Orbitrap MS) was used to analyze the chemical components systematically. The chemical was identified using retention time, accurate molecular weight, parent peaks, fragment peaks, fragmentation characteristics, comparative analysis with the literature, reference standards, and standard databases, including mzVault. A total of 108 compounds (32 phenylpropanoids, 14 phenolic acid, 6 fatty acids, 14 organic acid, 9 flavonoid, 15 amino acids, and 28 other components) were identified in the leaves and roots of D. heucherifolius in which 84 and 84 compounds were found in the leaves and roots, respectively. The results showed that 68 components were different in plant roots and leaves, and these compounds were mainly represented in organic acids. Moreover, 50 identical chemical compounds were identified in plant roots and leaves, and these compounds were mainly phenylpropanoid compounds. The UHPLC Q-Exactive Orbitrap MS method was used for the first time to accurately, quickly, and systematically identify the compounds of the roots and leaves of Didymocarpus heucherifolius Hand.-Mazz., thereby providing a theoretical basis for its quality control, in-depth research, and further development.

Abstract Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO) with elevated IgG4 levels has different characteristics from patients with GO who do not have elevated IgG4 levels, but the study findings are contradictory. The goal of this study was first to investigate the relationship between IgG4/IgG and IgG4 levels and the occurrence of GO and then to investigate the clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with GO who had elevated IgG4 levels. This study control group consisted of 57 Graves’ disease(GD)patients with no complicated ocular disease and a median followup of 54.41 months, while the experimental group included 171 GO patients. The clinical and laboratory characteristics of the GD and GO groups were compared. Using an IgG4/IgG cut-off value of 8%, the GO patients were divided into two groups: high IgG4/IgG and low IgG4/IgG, and the differences in clinical and laboratory characteristics between these two groups, as well as between the GO patients before and after 3 months of treatment, were analyzed. The study results show that serum IgG4/IgG levels were independently correlated with the occurrence of GO, but not significantly correlated with GO activity. Patients with high IgG4/IgG levels of GO exhibit distinct characteristics, which may be associated with an unstable balance of lymphocyte subsets.

Abstract Objectives To analyze the molecular epidemiological characteristics of influenza viruses in influenza-like cases in Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone, China, to provide data support and a scientific basis for optimizing influenza prevention and control strategies in the region. Materials and methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the molecular epidemiological characteristics of influenza viruses in influenza-like cases at a hospital in Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone from 2021 to 2024. Colloidal gold detection of viral antibodies, fluorescent PCR detection of nucleic acids, and gene sequencing were used to identify the different subtypes. Results Among 39,986 ILI specimens tested using the immunocolloid gold method, 6,616 influenza viruses were detected, with a detection rate of 16.54%. Infections included 4,464 influenza A viruses (67.50%), 2,033 influenza B viruses (30.73%), and 119 co-infections of influenza A and B viruses (1.77%).In this region, H3N2 was the predominant subtype of influenza A, and Victoria was the main subtype of influenza B. Conclusion Influenza epidemics in the winter and spring seasons in Chongqing Hi-Tech Zone were predominantly caused by influenza A, with influenza B also circulating. Influenza A strains were mainly H3N2, while influenza B strains were primarily Victoria.

Recently, Mg3Sb2-xBix alloys have attracted intensive attention, with the aim of maximizing the electrical transport performance via donor element doping, increasing the grain size, as well as electronic band structure engineering. However, less attention has been paid to other significant factors, like how these intrinsic point defects and accompanied secondary phases influence thermoelectric properties. In this study, the microstructure and thermoelectric transport properties of Mg3.2Sb0.5Bi1.495-xTe0.005 (x = 0 ∼ 0.2) compounds were systematically investigated, where tuning the Bi content shows the counter-intuitive impact on the thermoelectric properties. It was found that the Bi-poor environment associated with Bi impurities facilitated the increment of cation vacancy formation energy and then increased the carrier concentration, leading to the enhancement of power factor. Simultaneously, the reduction of Bi-rich second phase content weakened the carrier scattering by grain boundaries whereas high carrier mobility was maintained. Moreover, the bipolar thermal conductivity decreased obviously due to the increased majority carrier concentration to suppress the intrinsic excitation. The synergistic optimization pushes the average ZT value (300–573 K) up to 0.95 in the Mg3.2Sb0.5Bi1.295Te0.005 sample. Moreover, the calculated single-leg conversion efficiency is increased up to 9.7% with the hot-side temperature of 573 K, as the record-high value in this system.

A new species of the Asian leaf litter toad genus Leptobrachella, L. dayaoshanensis sp. nov., is described based on phylogenetic analysis, morphological characters, and bioacoustic data. This species occurs in the Dayaoshan National Nature Reserve located in Jinxiu County, Guangxi, China. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that this new species is closely related to L. verrucosa, as demonstrated by phylogenetic trees. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following characters: (1) medium size (mean snout–vent length (SVL) of 27.9 ± 0.7 mm, range 26.6–28.9 mm in males; 34.4 mm in female); (2) rough dorsal surface featuring small, raised tubercles and ridges; (3) flanks adorned with irregular black spots and creamy white glands; (4) creamy white ventral surface with sparse light-brown spots and irregular tiny textures; (5) brown throat and chest; (6) rudimentary toe webbing; (7) wide lateral fringes on toes; (8) distinct continuous ventrolateral glandular line; (9) tibiotarsal articulation reaching the midpoint of eye when the leg is extended forward; (10) heels that do not meet when thighs are appressed at right angles to body; (11) bicolored iris, with the upper half being copper and gradually transitioning to silver in the lower half; and (12) advertisement calls consisting of two model types, with dominant frequencies of 4.2–6.8 kHz at 21.0 °C. The new species has a breeding season that occurs from March to April and is found in evergreen forests at elevations between 1,000 and 1,600 m.

Abstract Recently, the development trend of large capacity generator has gradually shifted from electrical excitation generator to permanent magnet generator (PMG). As a result, the large capacity high‐speed permanent magnet generator (HSPMG) with high power density and high efficiency have received widespread attention. This paper aims to analyse the loss optimization of novel large capacity HSPMG under multi‐operating conditions. In terms of the parameter requirements, a 2.5 MW and 7000 rpm HSPMG is designed. To verify the accuracy of simulation model and the rationality of generator design, the output characteristics of large capacity HSPMG which has been combined with prototype experimental data are calculated under both no‐load and load conditions. Based on the load power characteristics of large capacity HSPMG, the optimization range of the magnetization angle under multi‐operating conditions is explored. By analysing the no‐load back electromotive force (EMF) and loss characteristics of large capacity HSPMG, the optimal magnetization angle that corresponds to the minimum loss under three conditions is obtained. The correctness of the analysis and optimization method is verified by comparing the loss distribution and electromagnetic results before and after the optimization. The research results provide a reference for the multi‐operating characteristics analysis and loss optimization of large capacity HSPMG.

Abstract Background Although laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (LIHR) has advantages over open surgery, postoperative seroma formation remains an issue. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors and clinical outcomes of seroma formation in patients undergoing LIHR. Methods From January 2016 to March 2023, clinical data of patients who underwent LIHR were retrospectively analyzed. Patients who developed seroma and those who did not were classified into the seroma and non-seroma groups, respectively. The demographic and clinical characteristics were compared between the two groups. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed for variables of interest. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the risk factors of the binary logistic model, and the cutoff value for each risk factor was obtained. Results Data of 128 patients were evaluated. Abstract Selective uptake and elution of trace amounts of hazardous radioactive 90Sr from large-scale high-level liquid waste (HLW) is crucial for sustainable development. Here, we propose a site differentiation strategy, based on the presence of distinct selective metal capture sites (concavity site and tweezer site) within the giant polyoxoniobate (PONb) nanoclusters of an all-inorganic PONb framework (FZU-1). Through this strategy, FZU-1 can not only effectively remove 98.9% of Sr²⁺ from simulated nuclear liquid waste, performing best among the reported Sr adsorbents, but also achieve desorption of adsorbed Sr²⁺ ions by selectively loading Na⁺ ions, thus enabling the recycling of FZU-1. Based on the well-defined single-crystal structures and theoretical studies, it can be revealed that the rapid and selective uptake of Sr²⁺ is attributed to the strong binding energy between the Sr²⁺ ions and the concavity sites. The effective elution of Sr²⁺, on the other hand, stems from the preferential binding of Na⁺ ions at the tweezer sites, elevating the cluster’s electrostatic potential and indirectly facilitating the elution of Sr²⁺ ions. The exceptional stability of FZU-1, along with its rapid and selective Sr²⁺ capture and elution capabilities, positions it as a promising candidate for large-scale nuclear waste treatment and groundwater remediation applications.

Abstract The pandemic crisis outbreak has impacted the hospitality industry tremendously. This study investigated the effect of job insecurity on service performance and examined the mediating role of cognitive appraisal and the moderating effect of uncertainty tolerance from the perspectives of cognitive appraisal theory of stress. The study collected a questionnaire from 316 hotel employees at three time points, with a one-month interval between the two time points. The SPSS PROCESS macro and MPLUS are used to test the research hypotheses. The results highlighted that the mediating role of challenge-hindrance appraisal, affirming that job insecurity positively impacts service performance via increasing challenge appraisal, and job insecurity negatively impacts service performance via increasing hindrance appraisal. Furthermore, the results show that uncertainty tolerance moderates the relationship between job insecurity and cognitive appraisal and also moderated the indirect effect of job insecurity on service performance through cognitive appraisal. The research results provide implications for human resource management in the hospitality industry.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) represents the most severe subtype of stroke, and the lack of effective clinical pharmacotherapies poses a substantial threat to human health. Hematoma plays a crucial role in determining the prognosis of ICH patients by causing primary mechanical extrusion, followed by secondary brain injuries, such as cerebral edema, iron-mediated oxidative stress, and inflammation resulting from its degradation products. 5α-androst-3β,5α,6β-triol (TRIOL) is a neuroprotective steroid currently undergoing phase II clinical trial for acute ischemic stroke with anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. However, whether TRIOL can protect brain against ICH injury remains unclear. In this study, we found that TRIOL significantly improved neurological function while reducing hematoma volume, cerebral edema, and tissue damage after ICH. Moreover, TRIOL enhanced microglial hematoma clearance through promoting CD36-mediated erythrophagocytosis and CD163-associated hemoglobin scavenging, while simultaneously reducing the release of microglial inflammatory factors and activating the antioxidative transcription factor Nrf2. Additionally, TRIOL inhibited neuron mediated hematoma absorption by suppressing heme oxygenase 2 (HO-2) and protected neurons against ICH-induced damage in vitro and in vivo. TRIOL also mitigated neuronal iron-dependent oxidative damage by increasing ferritin levels but decreasing divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) expression. Overall, these findings highlight the promising potential of TRIOL as a drug candidate for treating ICH.

Transition metal oxides hold great potential for water splitting due to their tunable electronic structures and abundant availability. However, their inherently poor electrical conductivity and limited catalytic activity hinder their practical implementation. Herein, high-entropy oxide (FeCoNiCrCuO) electrocatalysts featuring grain-like structure and oxygen vacancies-enriched surface were synthesized through an ultra-fast non-equilibrium high-temperature shock. The introduction of oxygen vacancies modulates the electronic structure and increases the carrier concentration, accelerating the rate-determining step of the oxygen evolution reactions and reducing the overpotential of oxygen evolution reactions. Consequently, the synthesized FeCoNiCrCuO electrocatalyst delivers a low overpotential of 256 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm⁻² and a Tafel slope of 48.2 mV·dec⁻¹ in 1 M KOH, which is superior to samples lacking oxygen vacancies after annealing. This study presents an alternative approach to enhancing OER activity by employing a high-entropy oxide engineering strategy.

Background and purpose: We aimed to assess the benefits of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) in completely resected patients with pathologic stage IIIA(N2) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with a high risk of locoregional recurrence (LRR). Materials and methods: A prospective, randomized trial was conducted starting in July 2016 to explore the optimal timing of PORT in high-LRR-risk patients with completely resected IIIA(N2) NSCLC (NCT02974426). Patients were identified as high-LRR-risk patients via the prognostic index (PI) model and were randomly assigned to PORT-first or PORT-last treatment. To evaluate PORT for high-LRR-risk patients, all patients in this trial constituted the PORT cohort, whereas high-LRR-risk patients without PORT were selected from a retrospective cohort as the non-PORT cohort. Propensity score-matched (PSM) analyses were conducted to compare overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS). Results: Between 2016 and 2022, 132 patients were included in the trial, with a median follow-up of 49.3 months. The 3-year OS rate was 83.2 %, and the 3-year DFS rate was 35.0 %. Among these patients, 122 patients (92 %) received planned PORT. For 132 intention-to-treat patients, PSM analysis with the non-PORT cohort (n = 307) resulted in 130 matched pairs. The results revealed that PORT improved LRFS (3-year LRFS, 77.6 % vs. 57.3 %; p = 0.00014), DFS (3-year DFS, 35.2 % vs. 28.6 %; p = 0.038), and OS (3-year OS, 83.0 % vs. 60.7 %; p = 0.00017), with no difference in DMFS (p = 0.17). Conclusion: PORT could increase local control, DFS, and OS in high-LRR-risk patients with completely resected IIIA(N2) NSCLC. Future research should utilize multidimensional data to pinpoint more precise subgroups benefiting from PORT, with prospective trials validating these findings.

Neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery is a common clinical strategy for operable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and the mainstream neoadjuvant therapies include chemoimmunotherapy, targeted therapy, and chemotherapy. However, there is a lack of studies to report the difference in benefits between these treatment modalities in the same institution. Therefore, this study aimed to depict the short-term efficacy of radiology and pathology achieved by different therapies and their impact on long-term survival as well as the underlying clinical significance. A total of 243 NSCLC patients who underwent different neoadjuvant therapies were eligible for inclusion. Demographic, radiological, and pathological features of patients were recorded. The event-free survival (EFS) outcome was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Abstract The oil cooling method has been widely used in the permanent magnet synchronous motor with hairpin winding. Because of the irregular shape of the hairpin end winding, there are complex oil circuits in the fluid domain, resulting in a large number of grids and a high computational cost. It is still a challenge to calculate the oil‐cooling performance of the hairpin end winding. Therefore, the porous medium model (PMM) is first proposed to replace the real hairpin end winding to analyse the oil‐cooling performance. By comparing oil volume fraction and velocity at different oil‐supplied conditions using three methods: experiments, real model (the non‐equivalent fluid domain model based on the real hairpin end winding) and PMM, the feasibility of using the PMM to calculate the oil‐cooling performance on the end winding is verified. The oil distribution of three methods is the same. The use of the PMM saves 80% of the number of grids, which improves the simulation efficiency. Relationships between the porosity, permeability and resistance coefficient and the geometry parameters of windings are determined. The results show that the flow field changes greatly with changes in porosity, permeability and resistance coefficient.

A new loach species, Oreonectes zhangi sp. nov., was identified from Xingye County, Yulin City, Guangxi, China. The species can be distinguished from all other congeners by a combination of the following characters: six branched pelvic-fin rays; a reduced posterior chamber of air-bladder; vertebrae 4 + 32; the tip of the male pelvic fin does not reach the anus. Molecular analyses using the Cyt b gene showed that the new species forms a monophyletic group and is closely related to O. damingshanensis.

Abstract Metavalent bonding is a unique bonding mechanism responsible for exceptional properties of materials used in thermoelectric, phase-change, and optoelectronic devices. For thermoelectrics, the desired performance of metavalently bonded materials can be tuned by doping foreign atoms. Incorporating dopants to form solid solutions or second phases is a crucial route to tailor the charge and phonon transport. Yet, it is difficult to predict if dopants will form a secondary phase or a solid solution, which hinders the tailoring of microstructures and material properties. Here, we propose that the solid solution is more easily formed between metavalently bonded solids, while precipitates prefer to exist in systems mixed by metavalently bonded and other bonding mechanisms. We demonstrate this in a metavalently bonded GeTe compound alloyed with different sulfides. We find that S can dissolve in the GeTe matrix when alloyed with metavalently bonded PbS. In contrast, S-rich second phases are omnipresent via alloying with covalently bonded GeS and SnS. Benefiting from the reduced phonon propagation and the optimized electrical transport properties upon doping PbS in GeTe, a high figure-of-merit ZT of 2.2 at 773 K in (Ge0.84Sb0.06Te0.9)(PbSe)0.05(PbS)0.05 is realized. This strategy can be applied to other metavalently bonded materials to design properties beyond thermoelectrics.

Abstract Background Extensive research has been conducted on embryonic developmental disorders linked to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a pathological condition that affects 5−10% of women and is characterized by irregularities in the menstrual cycle and infertility. By employing RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), we performed an in-depth investigation of PCOS-related changes in gene expression patterns at the mouse blastocyst stage. Methods The zygotes of female B6D2 mice were obtained and then differentiated into blastocysts in K + Simplex Optimised Medium (KSOM) cultures containing exo-NC (negative control for exosomes) or exo-LIPE-AS1 (a novel exosomal marker of PCOS). Subsequently, blastocysts were collected for RNA-seq. The bioinformatics was performed to analyze and compare the differences of gene expression profile between blastocysts of control and PCOS group. Results There were 1150 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the two groups of mouse blastocysts; 243 genes were upregulated and 907 downregulated in the blastocysts of the exo-LIPE-AS1 group compared to those of the exo-NC group. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis revealed that the genes involved in amino acid synthesis and glutathione metabolic pathways were down-regulated in exo-LIPE-AS1 group. Conclusion This study has revealed that blastocyst developmental retardation may be associated with the downregulation of amino acid synthesis and glutathione metabolism, which may affect energy metabolism, biosynthesis, cellular osmotic pressure, antioxidant synthesis, ROS clearance or mitochondrial function, and ultimately cause blastocyst cell development abnormalities. Our research offers encouraging data on the mechanisms underlying aberrant embryonic development in patients with PCOS as well as potential treatment strategies.

ObjectivesIn this paper, an orthogonal braided glass fiber composite sandwich panel with a PVC foam core and dimensions of 150 mm×100 mm×26 mm is selected as the research object in order to study the impact mechanical properties of composite sandwich panels. The dynamic response and residual compressive strength of the panel under single-point low-velocity impact are then analyzed.MethodsFirst, a series of drop hammer impact tests are conducted to study the failure mode, impact force-displacement response and energy absorption characteristics of the panel under different impact energies. Next, quasi-static compression experiments are conducted to investigate the maximum compression load capacity and residual compressive strength under impact damage.ResultsThere are significant differences in the failure modes and impact force-displacement characteristics of the sandwich panel under different impact energies. The core mainly absorbs impact energy through compression deformation. As the impact energy increases, the maximal impact force, dent depth and absorbed energy of panel gradually increase, while the maximum compression load capacity and residual strength decrease after impact. The damage degree of the impacted composite sandwich panel determines its residual compressive strength. ConclusionThe findings of this study can provide valuable references for the impact resistance design of naval ship structures.

Early neuroinflammatory injury plays a crucial role in initiating and progressing multiple sclerosis (MS). Neutrophils are forerunners to neural lesions in MS, yet the temporal alterations of their functions in MS remains unclear. This study demonstrated a positive correlation between circulatory neutrophil counts and disease activity and severity in treatment-naïve MS patients. In experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), we documented the recruitment of neutrophils to spinal cord during the preclinical phase, with these cells contributing to the disruption of the blood-spinal cord barrier (BSCB) during the onset of the disease. Furthermore, during the peak phase, infiltrated neutrophils promoted demyelination through formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), cytokine secretion and antigen presentation. Notably, the inhibition of neutrophil infiltration using a CXCR2 inhibitor effectively mitigated white matter damage and physical disability, underscoring their potential as therapeutic targets. In conclusion, neutrophils represent promising candidates for both disease treatment and prognosis evaluation in MS. By elucidating their temporal roles and mechanisms of action, we can potentially harness their modulation to improve patient outcomes and disease management.

ABSTRACTChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition primarily linked to oxidative stress, poses significant health burdens worldwide. Recent evidence has shed light on the association between the dysbiosis of gut microbiota and COPD, and their metabolites have emerged as potential modulators of disease progression through the intricate gut-lung axis. Here, we demonstrate the efficacy of oral administration of the probiotic Pediococcus pentosaceus SMM914 (SMM914) in delaying the progression of COPD by attenuating pulmonary oxidative stress. Specially, SMM914 induces a notable shift in the gut microbiota toward a community structure characterized by an augmented abundance of probiotics producing short-chain fatty acids and antioxidant metabolisms. Concurrently, SMM914 synthesizes L-tryptophanamide, 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan, and 3-sulfino-L-alanine, thereby enhancing the tryptophan-melatonin pathway and elevating 6-hydroxymelatonin and hypotaurine in the lung environment. This modulation amplifies the secretion of endogenous anti-inflammatory factors, diminishes macrophage polarization toward the M1 phenotype, and ultimately mitigates the oxidative stress in mice with COPD. The demonstrated efficacy of the probiotic intervention, specifically with SMM914, not only highlights the modulation of intestine microbiota but also emphasizes the consequential impact on the intricate interplay between the gastrointestinal system and respiratory health.

Through the lens of paradoxical structure of “relevance” and its double movement of “différance”, this paper points out that, although Derrida’s deconstructive translation thoughts does not provide methodological guidance for translation practice, it emphasizes the necessity of employing a risky economy of “conditionally relevant” calculations and strategies in specific contexts to express fidelity to the impossibility of “unconditionally relevant”. It employs phenomenological methods to argue that untranslatability carries critical significance that surpasses mere phenomenological intuition, while also revealing the nuanced interplay between translatability and untranslatability. Ultimately, this paper contributes to translation theory by illustrating how Derrida’s concepts of conditional relevance can inform more inventive and sensitive translation practices, enabling translators to navigate the complexities of meaning while maintaining fidelity to the unintelligible in the source text.

Abstract Cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is the leading cause of vascular dementia among the elderly. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are commonly manifested in cerebral amyloid angiopathy patients but are usually considered as consequences of cerebral amyloid angiopathy pathology. Here, it is reported that chronic stress promotes cerebral amyloid angiopathy progression, which enhances deposition of amyloid protein beta (Aβ) in brain blood vessels and exacerbates subsequent brain injury. Mechanistically, neutrophil is implicated in cerebral amyloid angiopathy development. Aβ that accumulates in brain vasculature induces neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) by activating STAT6 signaling, which inhibits neutrophil apoptosis and switches the programmed cell death toward NETosis. During chronic stress, circulatory Norepinephrine (NE) strengthens STAT6 activation in neutrophil and promotes NET formation, thus exacerbates the NET‐dependent angiopathy. It is demonstrated that inhibiting neutrophil chemotaxis towards brain or suppressing NET formation both ameliorate cerebral amyloid angiopathy severity in the context of chronic stress. Therefore, it is proposed that stress‐associated psychological disorders and NETs are promising therapeutic targets in cerebral amyloid angiopathy.

To mitigate the challenges of magnetic leakage and iron loss in the rotor of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors, this article proposes a novel rotor structure that eliminates the bilateral bridge, relying solely on a central bridge to maintain rotor strength. This design reduces the overall bridge width of the rotor, thereby decreasing magnetic leakage and improving torque. The novel rotor features a distinctive design that combines high silicon steel sheets and low silicon steel sheets. High silicon steel sheets are used on the rotor's surface to minimize iron loss, while low silicon steel sheets are used internally to ensure rotor strength. This design takes advantage of the high silicon steel's low iron loss while mitigating its brittleness and saturation issues. The article describes the method for producing this combined rotor. Mechanical and electromagnetic property tests are conducted on both high and low silicon steel sheets, resulting in stress-strain curves, B-H curves, and iron loss characteristics. Finally, the rotor stress is calculated. The analysis indicates that this novel motor can reduce magnetic leakage, increase torque by 7.5 %, improve efficiency by 0.18 %, decrease rotor iron loss by 36.2 %, and lower rotor temperature by 3.9 % compared to the original motor.

The novel gelling polysaccharides (NPGP) were extracted and characterized from Nicandra physalodes (Linn.) Gaertn. seeds, while properties and potential application of NPGP gels with tea polyphenols were further explored. NPGP was composed of GalA, Glc, Rha, Gal, Xyl, Ara, and Man at a molar ratio of 71.87:17.13:3.10:2.55:2.19:1.64:1.52, with molecular weight of 6.32 × 104 Da and low methoxylation degree of 45.21%. The gelling properties of NPGP gel induced by tea polyphenols showed that tea polyphenols significantly improved the structural and rheological properties of NPGP gel, due to the formation of dense network by hydrogen bonds and the increase of crystalline degree of NPGP. NPGP gels with tea polyphenols could significantly ameliorated the texture, water-holding capacity, aggregation, leading force, and moisture distribution of surimi during freeze-thaw cycles. All results suggest that NPGP gels with tea polyphenols has fine properties and show potential to be applied as natural additives in food industry.

Arteriosclerotic cerebral small vessel disease (aCSVD) is a major cause of stroke and dementia. Although its underlying pathogenesis remains poorly understood, both inflammaging and gut microbiota dysbiosis have been hypothesized to play significant roles. This study investigated the role of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of aCSVD through a comparative analysis of the gut microbiome and metabolome between CSVD patients and healthy controls. The results showed that patients with aCSVD exhibited a marked reduction in potentially beneficial bacterial species, such as Faecalibacterium prausnitzli and Roseburia intestinalis, alongside an increase in taxa from Bacteroides and Proteobacteria. Integrated metagenomic and metabolomic analyses revealed that alterations in microbial metabolic pathways, including LPS biosynthesis and phenylalanine-tyrosine metabolism, were associated with the status of aCSVD. Our findings indicated that microbial LPS biosynthesis and phenylalanine-tyrosine metabolism potentially influenced the symptoms and progression of aCSVD via pro-inflammatory effect and modulation of systemic neurotransmitters, respectively. These results imply that gut microbiota characteristics may serve as indicators for early detection of aCSVD and as potential gut-directed therapeutic intervention target.

Abstract Using the principles of density functional theory (DFT) and nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF), We thoroughly researched carbon-doped zigzag boron nitride nanoribbons (ZBNNRs) to understand their electronic behavior and transport properties. Intriguingly, we discovered that careful doping can transform carbon-doped ZBNNRs into a spintronic nanodevice with distinct transport features. Our model showed a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) up to a whopping 10 $$^5$$ 5 under mild bias conditions. Plus, we spotted a spin rectifier having a significant rectification ratio (RR) of 10 $$^4$$ 4 . Our calculated transmission spectra have nicely explained why there’s a GMR up to 10 $$^5$$ 5 for spin-up current at biases of $$-1.2$$ - 1.2 V, $$-1.1$$ - 1.1 V, and $$-1.0$$ - 1.0 V, and also accounted for a GMR up to 10 $$^3$$ 3 –10 $$^5$$ 5 for spin-down current at biases of 1.0 V, 1.1 V, and 1.2 V. Similarly, the transmission spectra elucidate that at biases of 1.0 V, 1.1 V, and 1.2 V for spin-up, and at biases of 1.1 V and 1.2 V for spin-down in APMO, the RRs reach 10 $$^4$$ 4 . Our research shines a light on a promising route to push forward the high-performance spintronics technology of ZBNNRs using carbon atom doping. These insights hint that our models could be game-changers in the sphere of nanoscale spintronic devices.

Abstract Objectives To construct a combined model based on bi-regional quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), as well as clinical-radiological (CR) features for predicting microvascular invasion (MVI) in solitary Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stage A hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to assess its ability for stratifying the risk of recurrence after hepatectomy. Methods Patients with solitary BCLC stage A HCC were prospective collected and randomly divided into training and validation sets. DCE perfusion parameters were obtained both in intra-tumoral region (ITR) and peritumoral region (PTR). Combined DCE perfusion parameters (C DCE) were constructed to predict MVI. The combined model incorporating C DCE and CR features was developed and evaluated. Kaplan–Meier method was used to investigate the prognostic significance of the model and the survival benefits of different hepatectomy approaches. Results A total of 133 patients were included. Total blood flow in ITR and arterial fraction in PTR exhibited the best predictive performance for MVI with areas under the curve (AUCs) of 0.790 and 0.792, respectively. C DCE achieved AUCs of 0.868 (training set) and 0.857 (validation set). A combined model integrated with the α-fetoprotein, corona enhancement, two-trait predictor of venous invasion, and C DCE could improve the discrimination ability to AUCs of 0.966 (training set) and 0.937 (validation set). The problem of surface deformation caused by coal mining is acute and usually lasts for a long time. During coal mining, the movement of the overlying strata has a broad range of influences, which may cause surface deformation, surface cracking, and damage to structures (buildings). However, continuous deformation monitoring data are often scarce in practice, making it challenging to predict the surface deformation caused by coal mining. In this context, this paper takes Sichuan’s Guanshan coalfield as the research object and proposes a comprehensive method integrating interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technology, the FLAC3D finite difference software, and the probability integral method to predict the surface deformation caused by mining a thin seam of coal. The results show that the trend of surface deformation estimated by the numerical simulation agrees well with the results of InSAR data and the probability integral model when using InSAR historical deformation data to invert the parameters of rock mechanics in the numerical simulation, which is beneficial to improving the reliability of the simulation results. The calculations of the probability integral method are close to the predictions of the FLAC3D numerical simulation, and a settlement deformation of 0.68 ​m is expected to occur in the Guanshan coalfield area. The comprehensive prediction method proposed in this paper effectively enhances the accuracy of surface deformation prediction under the action of mining and can provide a reference for predicting the surface subsidence of similar coal mines.

Abstract This study delves into the crucial link between managerial ability and green innovation. Motivated by the need for sustainable business practices and the pivotal role innovation plays in environmental sustainability, we identify a significant gap in the existing literature: the specific impact of managerial ability on fostering green innovation has not been adequately explored. Our research is anchored in the resource-based view, arguing that managerial ability is a strategic resource that can significantly influence a firm’s capacity for green innovation. Our empirical analysis employs multiple regression analysis on a dataset of 2455 Chinese A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2022, examining the relationship between managerial ability and green innovation. To ensure a thorough investigation, we control for both firm-specific and year-specific fixed effects. Our findings reveal a significant positive correlation between managerial ability and green innovation, highlighting the critical role of managerial competencies in enhancing environmental innovation. Notably, subgroup analyses indicate that this relationship is more pronounced in state-owned enterprises, firms with a higher proportion of institutional investors, and in contexts with stricter environmental regulations and less developed product markets. These results not only fill the identified gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence of the impact of managerial ability on green innovation but also offer practical insights for businesses, managers, and policymakers looking to promote sustainable innovation.

Abstract Objectives To investigate the value of extracellular volume (ECV) derived from portal-venous phase (PVP) in predicting prognosis in locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) patients receiving intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) with initial stable disease (SD) and to construct a risk-scoring system based on ECV and clinical-radiological features. Materials and methods One hundred and three patients with LAPC who received IORT demonstrating SD were enrolled and underwent multiphasic contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) before and after IORT. ECV maps were generated from unenhanced and PVP CT images. Clinical and CT imaging features were analyzed. The independent predictors of progression-free survival (PFS) determined by multivariate Cox regression model were used to construct the risk-scoring system. Time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and the Kaplan–Meier method were used to evaluate the predictive performance of the scoring system.
