Purpose: To evaluate the dimensional accuracy of implant impressions obtained using five different tray types and two techniques. Materials and Methods: A partially dentate maxillary Kennedy Class II model was created as a reference model through 3D printing. Then, implant analogs 4.3 mm in diameter were placed at the first premolar, first molar, and second molar sites. Five types of trays were used to create impressions: (1) metal stock trays, (2) plastic stock trays, (3) custom trays fabricated using liquid crystal display (LCD), (4) custom trays fabricated using fused deposition modeling (FDM), and (5) custom trays fabricated using urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) resin. Open and closed tray techniques were also compared. In total, 150 impressions were obtained. The reference model and impressions were scanned using a laboratory scanner. Additionally, the positional and angular deviations of implants with different tray types and techniques were evaluated using the superimposition method. Results: There was no statistically significant difference (P > .05) between the impression accuracy with the different tray types and impression techniques. The angular deviations with plastic and UDMA trays were greater than those with metal, FDM, and LCD trays. Angular deviation at the second molar was greater when using closed plastic trays compared to open plastic trays. The highest and lowest positional deviations were observed at the first molar implant with an open plastic tray impression (mean ± SD of 62.46 ± 28.54 mm) and a closed LCD tray impression (36.59 ± 29.93 mm). The greatest angular deviation was observed with an open FDM tray impression at the first premolar implant (0.067 ± 0.024 degree), and the lowest angular deviation was observed with a closed metal stock tray impression at the second molar implant (0.039 ± 0.025 degree). Statistical differences were detected using the Mann-Whitney U test for paired groups and the Kruskal-Wallis test for groups with more than three comparisons (P > .05). Conclusions: Plastic and metal stock trays or conventional and 3D-printed custom trays can be used to obtain implant impressions for maxillary partially edentulous arches with similar dimensional accuracy. The management of marked horizontal bone atrophy represents a critical challenge for traditional implantology procedures. For this purpose, clinicians have developed several protocols and procedures to allow the most suitable and accurate surgical and prosthetic implant rehabilitation. Despite the development of guided bone regeneration methods and the use of small-diameter implants, the rehabilitation of thin bone areas is a clinical dilemma for the medium- and long-term survival of implant-prosthetic therapies. This clinical case evaluates the use of wedge-shaped implants for the full-arch rehabilitation of an atrophic maxilla with a thin ridge. This treatment choice allowed a minimally invasive rehabilitation, avoiding regenerative bone surgery, while respecting biologic and prosthetic limits. Furthermore, evaluation of the implant stability quotient and marginal bone loss values during the first year of follow-up allowed analysis of the behavior of this rehabilitation in fullarch maxillary cases. The use of conventional scan bodies (SBs) with an intraoral scanner (IOS) to capture the position of a complete arch of dental implants has proven to be challenging. The literature is unclear about the accuracy of intraoral scanning techniques using SBs that are connected vertically to multiunit abutments (MUAs) for numerous adjacent implants in the same arch. Recently, there has been a paradigm shift from vertical SBs to horizontal SBs, which are positioned perpendicular to the long axis of the MUAs. Most IOSs available today can capture these horizontal SBs, called scan gauges (SGs), with better accuracy and consequently acquire the position of multiple adjacent implants using an effective scan path, thus reducing stitching and the number of images. The key to implementing this novel technology is to strategically arrange the SGs to optimize horizontal overlap of multiple adjacent SGs without touching each other. By superimposing two high-resolution intraoral scans of the SGs, an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm is employed to produce a calibrated digital best-fit model on which a passive complete-arch prosthesis can be designed and fabricated. Purpose: To investigate the possible antimicrobial activity of glycine air polishing by comparing peri-implant microbiota before and after treatment. Materials and Methods: A total of 15 patients who received implant-supported full-arch fixed rehabilitations were included. After prosthesis removal (T0), Plaque Index (PI), probing depth (PD), and bleeding on probing (BOP) were recorded. In each hemiarch, the implant with the highest PD score was selected for microbiologic sample collection from the peri-implant sulcus (T0). All patients received two different hygienic protocols (randomly administered, one per each hemiarch): glycine air-polishing (G) and cleansing with cotton pellets soaked in saline (C). At 7 days (T1) and 3 months (T2) after the intervention, PI and BOP were recorded, and new microbiologic samples were taken. Traditional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and quantitative PCR real-time were employed for microbiologic analysis to investigate how the presence of different bacterial species varied according to the hygienic treatment performed. Results: Treatment G provided a significantly higher PI score reduction around implants compared to treatment C (P = .015). No statistical difference was found in the microbial population around G and C implant sites, with Tannerella forsythia being the most commonly detected bacterial species in both G and C groups. No statistical differences were found between the antimicrobial activity of treatments C and G. Conclusions: Glycine powder air polishing is a valid method for professional hygienic care of implants and was more effective in PI reduction compared to the control treatment. Purpose: To investigate the influence of a novel scanning strategy--using two new intraoral scanner devices with different operators--on the full-arch scanning accuracy for a dentate maxilla. Materials and Methods: Two scanning strategies, a test and a control strategy, were used to produce full-arch impressions of the dentate maxilla of a study patient. Two intraoral scanning (IOS) devices were used. Five expert operators performed a total of 40 scans. The scan time was recorded for each. A reference model was obtained from the patient's maxillary arch with an analog impression. The model was later scanned with a highprecision laboratory scanner to create a digital reference model (DRM). The scanning accuracy was analyzed with 3D-analysis software using a root mean square (RMS) calculation method, and qualitative analysis was executed using machine learning software. Results: The mean RMS result for the test strategy was 82.8 ± 16 µm compared to 81.5 ± 16 µm for the control strategy. The mean RMS results were 84.7 ± 15 µm for Primescan (PS) and 79.6 ± 17 µm for 3Shape (3S). As such, the scanning strategies and IOS devices did not influence the scanning accuracy. Yet, a significant difference was found when the two strategies' scanning times were compared (P = .001), as well as the IOS devices (P = .001). The operator was found to have no influence on the scanning strategy. Conclusions: The accuracy of digital impressions is not influenced by different strategies, devices, or operators, in contrast with the scanning time, which is influenced by both strategies and devices. Subperiosteal implants were first introduced in the early 1940s for the treatment of edentulous maxillary and mandibular arches with severe bone atrophy. After achieving widespread popularity in the 80s and 90s, this denture therapy was progressively abandoned due to significant technique limitations, including high rates of infection and the complications and difficulties with positioning implants and obtaining sufficiently extensive bone impressions. In the last two decades, digital technology has dramatically changed the world of implant dentistry. In particular, modern diagnostic imaging, digital technology, and direct metal laser sintering now allow for the projection of implants with the proper extension, leading to the fabrication of custommade titanium meshes that perfectly fit the specific anatomical requirements of patients. With modern production methods, subperiosteal implants have been digitally reinterpreted, and interest in them is being renewed for the treatment of edentulous patients with atrophic arches. This article describes the evolution of subperiosteal implants in recent years and presents two clinical cases involving the placement of new generation (NG) subperiosteal implants with the clinical and radiographic findings at the 1-year follow-up. Partial extraction therapy (PET) is a group of surgical techniques that preserve the periodontium and peri-implant tissues during restorative and implant therapy by conserving a portion of the patient's own root structure to maintain the blood supply, derived from the periodontal ligament complex. PET includes the socket shield technique (SST), proximal shield technique (PrST), pontic shield technique (PtST), and root submergence technique (RST). Although their clinical success and benefits have been demonstrated, several studies report possible complications. The focus of this article is to highlight management strategies for the most common complications associated with PET, including internal root fragment exposure, external root fragment exposure, and root fragment mobility. The traditional configuration of four maxillary implants to restore full-arch maxillary fixed implant prostheses is not without pitfalls. Intraoperative variability, such as bone quality and quantity, may lead to unexpected intraoperative challenges that may not allow for execution of the original treatment plan. Additionally, extensive maxillary sinus pneumatization may inhibit posterior spread and lead to a shortened dental arch or excessive cantilever forces. The PATZi protocol is a systematized algorithm for maxillary full-arch implant treatment planning that addresses such intraoperative surprises and achieves full arch length in the planned prosthesis. PATZi also assigns a numbering classification to each implant configuration, which leads to uniform communication and grading of surgical difficulty, as well as predictable planning for developing future salvage plans. By using the PATZi protocol as a guideline, the surgeon may improve composite torque value and anteroposterior (AP) spread, eliminate distal cantilever forces, and ultimately improve the predictability of the prosthetic treatment plan. Background: Extracting the premolars is an effective strategy for patients with bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion. Clear aligners (CAs) close the extraction spaces through shortening the length of aligners. The contraction force generated by the terminal of aligners makes the posterior teeth tip mesially, which is known as the roller coaster effect. This phenomenon is even worse in the 2nd premolar extraction cases. Posterior anchorage preparation is commonly used to protect the angulation of molars, taking the form of presetting distal tipping value. However, the distal tipping design aggravates the anchorage loss of anterior teeth simultaneously. This study aimed to explore the different anchorage loss of the posterior teeth when the 1st or 2nd premolars were extracted using CAs, respectively in maxillary and mandibular arches, further providing guidance for anchorage preparation design in clinical practice. Methods: Two bimaxillary finite element models with different extraction patterns were established to simulate the anterior en-masse retraction process of the CAs. In Model 1, the maxillary and mandibular 1st premolars were extracted, while in Model 2, the 2nd premolars were extracted. Finite element analysis methods were utilized to analyze the tipping angle of the anterior and posterior teeth. Results: Compared between two models, the anterior teeth exhibited a greater lingual inclination tendency and the posterior teeth exhibited a slighter mesial tipping tendency in Model 1 regarding individual tooth. The closer to the extraction spaces, the greater the tip, and the distal tipping tendency of the 1st premolars was more evident than the mesial tipping tendency of the 1st molars in Model 2. Compared between the maxillary and mandibular arches, the mesial tipping tendency of individual posterior tooth was more evident in the maxilla. In addition, the highest hydrostatic stress of the periodontal ligaments was concentrated on the cervical and apical parts directly adjacent to the extraction spaces, and it exhibited relatively uniform distribution in Model 1. Conclusions: The individual posterior tooth showed the same mesial tipping direction but to different degree when the 1st or the 2nd premolars were extracted during clear aligner treatment. Presetting anchorage preparation design for the posterior teeth is essential to alleviate the roller coaster effect, especially in the 2nd premolar extraction cases. Background: Wearing complete denture in one or both arches can impact enjoyment of eating and affect quality of life compared with being dentate. Clinicians focus on issuing technically sound dentures but ignore the impact of wearing dentures on the eating‐related quality of life which affects the success of treatment. Objectives: The aim of this research was to qualitatively explore ERQoL in Australian adults wearing complete dentures using a validated questionnaire and through focus groups. Methods: Complete denture wearers (n = 44) were recruited from dental clinics and invited to complete the self‐administered Emotional and Social Issues Related to Eating questionnaire. Responses were categorised under the six questionnaire domains. A subsample of 20 participants who completed the questionnaire were invited to participate in focus groups to identify emerging themes. Results: Twenty‐three participants (52.3%) completed the questionnaire. Most participants expressed a decline in enjoyment of eating due to reduced ability to eat, longer chewing times and the need to frequently clean dentures while eating. Focus groups (n = 2 × 4 participants) indicated educational materials on eating with dentures would increase recognition of eating problems with dentures and reduce trial and error approaches to dealing with these. Conclusion: ERQoL is adversely affected by wearing complete dentures due to functional limitations, restricted food choices and adaptive eating behaviours. Conventionally and digitally manufactured removable complete dentures with different dentition forms were examined for manufacturing accuracy (trueness, precision), fracture forces under torsional loading and subsequent repairability. A total of 90 mandibular prostheses were manufactured. Ten were made using the injection molding technique and finished with prefabricated teeth. 40 bases each, were manufactured subtractively and additively. Digitally the prosthesis' dental arch was divided either into two quadrants or three sextants, or kept as full arch. Afterwards, ten additive and subtractive bases were finished with prefabricated teeth and ten of each with milled quadrants, sextants and full arches. After manufacturing, all specimens were rescanned for accuracy comparisons using the Root Mean Square (RMS). Lastly, all specimens were tested to failure under torsional loading. Conventionally manufactured dentures showed the greatest deviation in accuracy. The type of base manufacturing did not determine the fracture resistance of the prostheses. The dentition form had a significant influence. While prefabricated teeth (86.01 ± 19.76 N) and quadrants (77.89 ± 9.58 N) showed a low fracture resistance, sextants (139.12 ± 21.41 N) and full arches (141.05 ± 17.14 N) achieved the highest fracture forces. Subtractive bases with prefabricated teeth or quadrants were assessed to be repairable, digital dentures with full arch were assessed as not repairable. The presented testing set-up is suitable to determine the fracture behavior of dentures rather than of standards. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the discolouration resistance of attachments made of composites having different physical properties, filler ratios and viscosity through the simulated environment and conditions. Materials and Methods: Seventy‐two extracted human teeth were aligned to simulate upper and lower dental arches. The attachments were prepared according to the guides determined by ClearCorrect. Three different composite groups were used for attachments preparation: Aligner Connect, G‐Aenial Universal Injectable, and Tetric Prime and Tetric Evoflow combination. Dental models and aligners were kept in artificial saliva throughout the experiment of 96 weeks. The aligners were also subjected to 2308 thermal cycles and insertion and removing procedures 840 times for each period of 12 weeks. Afterwards, the models were kept in coffee and red wine solutions. Colour measurements were made with Vita Easy Shade 4.0 at 12th, 24th, 48th and 96th simulated weeks. Results: No significant difference in discolouration was observed during thermal cycle application of 12th and 24th week experimental periods. In the later periods, discolouration was observed in the composite materials, and G‐Aenial Universal Injectable was less coloured than the other samples. The composite samples were more coloured in proportion to their residence time. The G‐Aenial Universal Injectable was more affected by wine solution, and Tetric Prime and Tetric Evoflow combination were more affected by coffee solution. Conclusions: Viscosity, resin matrix content and nature of inorganic filler particles of the composite materials significantly affect the colour changing properties of them due to the long‐term ageing and exposure to colouring agents. Objectives: To propose a method for evaluating the coordination of maxillomandibular alveolar arch in transverse dimension with cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to apply this method to subjects with normal occlusion at different dentition stages or transverse discrepancy. Materials and Methods: Digital data of 130 patients with normal occlusion at different dentition stages or transverse discrepancy were collected for three‐dimensional reconstruction. The patients with normal occlusion were divided into Group 1 (>16 years) and Group 2 (≤16 years) based on their age. Adult patients with posterior crossbite were divided into the Group 3. According to the proposed method, the average alveolar arch coordination angle (AACA) and other parameters were analysed in each group. Group 1 was considered as the control group and compared with Group 2 and Group 3. Results: Significant differences were observed in the maxillary posterior segment width among patients with normal occlusion. Group 3 demonstrated increased AACA and mandibular alveolar arch width compared with the normal occlusion group. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a positive relationship between maxillomandibular alveolar arch widths in the normal occlusion groups, with a strong correlation between AACA and the disparity in maxillomandibular widths. Conclusion: Adults with normal occlusion exhibit significantly wider maxillary posterior alveolar arches than adolescents, with no marked difference in mandibular widths. The posterior crossbite group showed broader mandibular alveolar arches. There was a strong correlation between AACA and the difference in maxillomandibular widths. Background Different types of retention appliances have been proposed over the years, but their effectiveness in maintaining arch dimensions and alignment after orthodontic treatment is still unclear. Aim To assess the efficacy of vacuum-formed retainers (VFRs) in preserving arch widths, arch length, and anterior alignment in maxillary and mandibular arches, compared to removable Hawley retainers (HRs) or fixed bonded retainers (FBRs). Search methods: unrestricted literature search of five major databases up to March 2024. Selection criteria randomized/non-randomized clinical studies comparing VFRs to removable HRs or FBRs. Data collection and analysis after duplicate study selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment, random effects meta-analyses of standardized mean differences and their 95% confidence intervals were performed, followed by meta-regressions, sensitivity analyses, and assessment of the quality of evidence with GRADE. Results Twenty-two prospective studies (4 non-randomized and 18 randomized controlled trials) involving 1797 patients (mean age 17.01 years, 38.3% males) were included. No significant differences were found in the intercanine width, intermolar width, and arch length between VFRs and HRs, in both arches (P  > 0.05). However, VFRs were statistically more effective than HRs in terms of Little's irregularity scores (LII) in the maxilla (eight studies; SMD = −0.42; 95% CI: −1.03 to −0.09; P  = 0.02; I 2 = 73.4%) but not in the mandible (P  = 0.12). No significant differences were reported for all considered outcomes between VFRs and FBRs in in both arches (P  > 0.05), except for lower LII, where VFRs were significantly less efficient (eight studies; SMD = 1.49; 95% CI = 0.26–2.7; P  = 0.02; I 2 = 93%). Follow-up times, risk of bias, and wire type (of FBRs) did not show statistically significant effects on outcome variables. Sensitivity analyses showed robustness of the findings for including non-randomized and postretention studies. The certainty in these estimates was from moderate to low due to the risk of bias and inconsistency. Conclusions Low to moderate quality evidence indicates that VFRs are as effective as HRs in maintaining arch widths, length, and alignment. Low-quality evidence found similar efficacy between VFRs and FBRs, with FBRs being statistically more effective at maintaining lower arch alignment, but the difference was not clinically significant. Background: Previous deep learning-based studies were mainly conducted on detecting periapical lesions; limited information in classification, such as the periapical index (PAI) scoring system, is available. The study aimed to apply two deep learning models, Faster R-CNN and YOLOv4, in detecting and classifying periapical lesions using the PAI score from periapical radiographs (PR) in three different regions of the dental arch: anterior teeth, premolars, and molars. Methods: Out of 2658 PR selected for the study, 2122 PR were used for training, 268 PR were used for validation and 268 PR were used for testing. The diagnosis made by experienced dentists was used as the reference diagnosis. Results: The Faster R-CNN and YOLOv4 models obtained great sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and precision for detecting periapical lesions. No clear difference in the performance of both models among these three regions was found. The true prediction of Faster R-CNN was 89%, 83.01% and 91.84% for PAI 3, PAI 4 and PAI 5 lesions, respectively. The corresponding values of YOLOv4 were 68.06%, 50.94%, and 65.31%. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated the potential of YOLOv4 and Faster R-CNN models for detecting and classifying periapical lesions based on the PAI scoring system using periapical radiographs. The article presents a case study of a 57 year old Chinese woman with a rare and potentially new syndrome characterized by palate-bucca fusion, cleft palate, and supernumerary teeth. It describes her unique condition involving a bridge-like fusion tissue from the buccal mucosa to the palate, a cleft in the soft palate, and multiple dental anomalies.

The shortfin mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) is a large pelagic predator that inhabits coastal and ocean waters. It has several teeth arranged in rows that run from the rostral to the lingual face. These teeth are in several stages of maturation, where the teeth closest to the rostral face are more mature and functional and the teeth closest to the lingual face are still in development. The tooth supply of the shark is unlimited throughout its life. The mechanism of tooth replacement follows that, when the front teeth are discarded physiologically, the posterior teeth replace it. This study us used a head and dental arch of I. oxyrinchus. Intraoral radiographs were obtained with the aim to show details of the pulp cavity. Data on the age of apical closure in felines is limited. Moreover, differences in age of apical closure between male and female cats have not been studied. The aim of this study was to determine the timing of apical closure in cats and determine if sex or position in the dental arch affected closure. In this retrospective descriptive study, intraoral radiographs were obtained at monthly or multiple-monthly intervals for 18 cats. Nine were intact females and 9 were neutered males, ranging from 6 to 9.4 months of age at the start of the study which ranged over an 8-month period. Radiographs were evaluated to establish age of apical closure for all canine teeth as well as the mandibular premolar and molar teeth. Mandibular canine tooth apices closed between 10 and 12 months of age and maxillary canine tooth apices closed between 12 and 14 months of age. The mesial and distal root apices of both the mandibular third and fourth premolar teeth closed between 8 and 9 months. The mandibular first molar tooth mesial and distal root apices closed between 8 and 8.5 months. Root apices of canine teeth closed earlier in female cats than in male cats with mandibular canine tooth root apices closing significantly earlier than maxillary canine tooth roots in both sexes. These findings suggest that there are notable differences in age of apical closure between male and female cats and discernible trends in timing of apical closure among teeth in the dental arcade. Introduction: The management of eruption disturbances in orthodontics may be challenging and requires a careful diagnosis and treatment planning. This case report discusses the challenges of a two-phase orthodontic treatment of a patient presenting with a dental eruption pattern anomaly. Patient concerns: A 10-year-old boy presented with no complaints for a routine orthodontic evaluation during the mixed dentition. Primary diagnoses: The patient was diagnosed with a skeletal Class I malocclusion with unilateral posterior crossbite, incomplete mandibular lateral incisor-canine transposition and a unilateral maxillary ectopic canine. Interventions: Phase 1 started with rapid maxillary expansion to correct the maxillary constriction and the ectopic eruption of the right maxillary canine. In the mandibular arch, phase 1 included the extraction of the left primary lateral incisor and canine, alignment of the left permanent lateral incisor and orthodontic traction of the left permanent canine. The duration of phase 1 was 14 months. Phase 2 involved a comprehensive course of orthodontic treatment and started when the patient was aged 13 years. This phase lasted 18 months. Results: An adequate dental occlusion was obtained, and the treatment results were stable after an 18-month follow-up. Conclusion: In this case, the early diagnosis of the dental anomalies was valuable as it allowed an early intervention to be undertaken, which resulted in overall treatment simplification and potentially minimised the adverse effects. Background: Oral rehabilitation through prosthetic management after cancer resection is a conservative and effective modality in improving patients' oral health-related quality of life. However, it is challenging to obtain sufficient retention for hemimaxillectomy and edentulous cases without the use of Osseo-integrated implants. Purpose: This case aims to explain the oral rehabilitation management of post-hemimaxillectomy for edentulous patients using a hollow bulb obturator and long-term soft liner. Case: A 63- year-old female presented to the Universiti Malaya postgraduate dental clinic and complained of a loose obturator during speaking and eating and high resonance during speaking. Seven years ago, she underwent hemimaxillectomy surgery of the left hard palate for the removal of squamous cell carcinoma. Upon examination, she had an edentulous maxillary arch, with a large palatal defect; the lateral border of the defect was lined with a skin graft. The mandibular arch was partially dentate with three teeth remaining (33, 35, 43). Case Management: First, elective root canal treatment of the mandibular canines was done to use them as abutments for a mandibular overdenture. Next, a maxillary hollow bulb obturator and a mandibular overdenture were constructed. Then, after evaluating the airspace on the defect site, the lateral and posterior borders of the obturator were modified to be better utilized for retention. Conclusion: Oral rehabilitation of hemimaxillectomy cases with a hollow bulb obturator without the use of Osseo-integrated implants can be a viable option for improving patients' mastication, and speech, after assessing the retention factors, including the seal, available undercuts, and occlusion. Featured Application: All-on-4 dental implants provide support for an entire dental arch. They are inserted in properly mineralized regions of the alveolar bone, and their performance depends on accurate positioning and angulation. Surgical guides ensure accurate implant placement, but they block the access of the irrigation fluid during surgical drilling. In this study, guided drilling was performed sequentially, in four target sites, with gradually increased diameters, according to the All-on-4 dental implant procedure. We monitored intraosseous temperatures next to each osteotomy, in the presence of two types of surgical guides: a classical guide, composed of a splint with a cylindrical sleeve, and a guide with internal cooling, which (i) incorporates an irrigation channel that orients the coolant jet toward the drill's point of entry into the target tissues and (ii) provides space for the evacuation of the irrigation fluid. The results of this study point to the use of surgical guides with internal cooling as the most effective method. Dental implant bed preparation involves surgical drilling. Heat generated in this process can cause a temperature elevation beyond the bone damage limit (10 °C), affecting the osseointegration of the implant. Surgical templates ensure accurate implant placement, but they limit the access of the irrigation fluid. This study evaluated the hypothesis that surgical guides with internal cooling prevent bone heating more effectively than classical guides. To eliminate biological variability, this study was conducted on artificial bone pieces that mimic the bone density of the human mandible. We created a surgical template that incorporated four pairs of guides—one classical (CLA) and one with internal cooling (INT) in each pair. For each specimen, we randomly selected the type of surgical guide to start with and performed four osteotomies with a 2.7 mm-diameter drill; then, we widened each hole with a 3.3 mm drill and finalized it with a 3.7 mm drill. The temperature was recorded by thermocouples placed at 0.8 mm from the prospective edge of the final osteotomy. In 168 measurements (12 osteotomies on 14 specimens) conducted for each type of surgical guide, the mean temperature rise was 7.2 ± 4.9 °C (mean ± standard deviation) for CLA and 5.0 ± 3.8 °C for INT. The mean differences between temperature elevations were 1.5 °C, 2.1 °C, and 3.0 °C for the first, second, and third drill, and they were statistically significant: the p-values of Student's t-test were 0.004, 0.01, and 0.001, respectively. Although the mean temperatures remained safe, temperature rises exceeded 10 °C in 23.8% (9.5%) of the osteotomies performed in the presence of CLA (INT). In invisible orthodontics, the role of composite attachments in facilitating complex tooth movements is crucial. This study, which evaluates the efficacy of a novel clinical attachment procedure, holds significant implications for the field. The technique used two templates (one pre-drilled and the other pre-loaded with high-viscosity composites) and was compared with the standard procedure. Fifty attachments were planned for four dental arch prototypes. Dental impressions were taken using digital scans for virtual planning and after tested techniques. The stereolithographic files (STL) obtained were aligned with those of the virtual planning, and a colorimetric map was used to evaluate the composite resin's maximum excess and defect deviation. The enamel–resin interfaces were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Fisher test for the distribution of detachments and morphological defects and the Mann–Whitney test for the maximum values of excess and defect were used. No significant results were found between groups for morphological defects and detachments, and the maximum values of defect and excess were reported. SEM images for the experimental technique showed integrated adhesion. This innovative procedure, which has proven reliable and operationally straightforward, holds promise, instilling confidence in its practicality and potential to advance the field of orthodontics. Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of three different intraoral scanners (IOSs) and to evaluate the patients' experience. Methods: Thirty subjects were scanned with three different IOSs (TRIOS Color®, iTero Element 5D®, and iTero Lumina®): a sample of 90 maxillary casts was collected. The inclusion criteria were permanent dentition, absence of defects during the dental impression, and complete record of the palatal vault. After the scanning procedure, patients were asked to answer a questionnaire (10 answers, scale from 1 to 10) to compare their experiences with iTero Element and iTero Lumina in the scanning procedure. Results: Differences were recorded in the upper central incisor region (f-ratio of 4.186 for Mesiodistal 1.1 and f-ratio of 4.222 for Mesiodistal 2.1, p < 0.05), while intercanine width Upper 13–23 showed the smallest f-ratio (0.226) when compared to the other results, followed by Mesiodistal 1.4 (0.433). Patients reported more comfort, less pain, decreased duration, and a better technology visualization of the impression with iTero Lumina. No significant differences concerning dryness of the mouth and gag reflex were found. Conclusions: The examined IOSs offer comparable accuracy in capturing dental arch dimensions. The interviewed patients expressed an overall preference for digital impressions performed with iTero Lumina, linked to increased comfort, painless practice, and a better technology visualization of the impression. Introduction: The present study aimed to investigate the deformation behavior of three different clear aligner systems, CA® Pro+ Clear Aligner (Scheu Dental, Iserlohn, Germany), Taglus Premium (Taglus Company, Mumbai, India), and Spark Trugen (Ormco Corp., Orange, CA, USA), under compression testing, using the digital image correlation (DIC) technique. Materials and Methods: A total of 15 patients were treated with each of the three aligner systems, resulting in 45 sets of aligners. Each aligner set was fixed on the 3D-printed dental arches and then in an articulator. Then, the samples were subjected to occlusal forces using a purpose-built test stand to allow for controlled force application and precise displacement determination. The DIC technique was used for capturing the deformation behavior, providing detailed strain and displacement fields. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc tests with a significance of 0.05. Results: The results indicate that the Spark system exhibited the most substantial rigid displacement. Furthermore, the elastic deformation values of the Spark and Taglus systems were significantly higher than those of the CA Pro+ system (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The Spark Trugen clear aligner system demonstrated a lower stability to rigid displacement and elastic deformation under compression testing compared to the Scheu CA® Pro+ Clear Aligner and Taglus Premium. Purpose: The aim was to analyze the accuracy of digital models and 3D-printed casts from full-arch digital impressions using two intraoral scanners (iTeroTM and PrimescanTM). Materials and methods: A crossover reliability study was designed, scanning children and teenagers with iTeroTM and PrimescanTM. Accuracy was evaluated by measuring intercanine, intermolar, and ipsilateral canine–molar distances intraorally and comparing these measurements with those from plaster casts, digital models obtained with intraoral scanners, and 3D-printed casts. A paired comparison and a general linear model with a one-way repeated measures ANOVA procedure were carried out with a confidence level of 95% (p ≤ 0.05). Results: A total of 51 subjects were analyzed (mean age 12.35 ± 2.57). Statistical differences (p < 0.05) were found in the upper and lower arch regarding accuracy in comparison to intraoral measurements, except for the iTeroTM-printed cast and canine–molar upper right and intercanine lower distances (p > 0.05 for all comparisons). Regarding a comparison between reproduction methods, the plaster cast oversized the intercanine upper distance in comparison with both intraoral scanners' digital models and the PrimescanTM-printed cast (p = 0.001), but there were no differences in the lower arch (p > 0.05 for all comparisons). Objectives An accurate analysis is considered a crucial factor that enables the clinician to select the appropriate treatment plan which may include serial extractions, guiding of eruption, maintenance of space or regaining it, or just intervallic patient observation during this period. This study aims to test the applicability of the Tanaka and Johnston prediction equations on Iraqi population. Materials and Methods One hundred pairs of stone models belonged to 100 Iraqi adult individuals with normal occlusal relationship were utilized in this study. The greatest crown diameters of all teeth except the maxillary incisors and molars in both jaws were measured using digital calipers. The Tanaka and Johnston prediction equations were applied and modification for these equations was developed for Iraqis. Results The original Tanaka and Johnston method of prediction tends to overestimate the mesiodistal widths of the canine and premolars among Iraqis. Novel regression equations (modified Tanaka and Johnston method) were formulated for Iraqi population and seem to be more accurate than the original one. Conclusions The original Tanaka and Johnston method cannot be applied for Iraqi population; hence, new equations were developed for both genders and in both dental arches to accurately predict the mesiodistal widths of the unerupted canine and premolars. When it comes to kennedy's class I or class II partially edentulous (distal extension cases) patients, retention is a problem. This problem can be overcome by incorporating precision attachments on the most distal abutment. This case report aims to help achieve a better understanding of selection of the type of precision attachment and incorporation of saggix precision attachment to achieve a successful cast partial denture with sufficient retention. A cast partial denture with saggix precision attachment was selected for this particular case keeping in mind the age, needs, economic, hygiene maintenance of the patient, number of abutments and health of remaining teeth. The patient was diagnosed with kennedy's class II modification space 3 edentulism in maxillary arch and complete edentulism in the mandibular arch. Following post and core build up in a couple of teeth, tooth preparation was done and porcelain fused metal crowns were given in the remaining teeth with a number of direct retainers and occlusal rest seats. A full palatal coverage cast partial denture with unilateral saggix attachment was given. This case report explains how a distal extension edentulous patient can be rehabilitated without any surgical procedures and in a much less time period using a cast partial denture with saggix attachment. Adolescents and young adults' active lifestyles make dental trauma a significant medical concern. Aim: This study aims to assess the etiology, frequency, and localization of dental and periodontal trauma in adolescents and young adults, along with these individuals' predisposition based on age, gender, and residence. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 109 adolescents and young adults from a database of the Emergency and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at "Sf. Spiridon" Hospital, Iasi, Romania. The collected data included demographic details, mechanisms of dental and periodontal trauma, treatment approaches, and clinical outcomes. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0, with comparisons based on age, gender, and residence. Results: Enamel fractures (23.9%) and enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (20.2%) were the most frequent dental injuries. Concussion (58.7%), subluxation (21.1%), luxation, avulsion (7.3%), and extrusion (5.5%) were common periodontal injuries. The anterior region of the dental arch accounted for the majority (60.6%) of injuries. Adolescents under 17 years were more prone to enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (23.8%), enamel-dentin fractures with pulp exposure (20.6%), and root fractures (20.6%), while young adults over 18 years had a higher incidence of enamel fractures (32.6%) and crown-root fractures (30.4%). Falls (66.7%) were the predominant cause of trauma for female patients, whereas male patients were more often injured during sports activities (49.3%). The younger age group was 0.29 times more likely to sustain enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (p = 0.049, OR = 0.291) and root fractures (p = 0.047, OR = 0.241). Conclusions: Traumatic dental injuries are more prevalent in young adults compared to adolescents, with falls and sports activities being the most common causes, particularly among males. This study aimed to describe the changes produced on the occlusal plane (OP), the mandibular position and the dentoalveolar compensations of patients with distalization of the maxillary/mandibular arch assisted by mini-screws (MS). A descriptive case–series study was performed using the digital lateral cephalograms (DLC) of nine patients who underwent orthodontic treatment and required the use of MS for a complete distalization of the maxillary/mandibular arch. Records were collected at three different times (T1–T2–T3) and digitally analyzed (variables: Skeletal diagnosis; maxillary occlusal plane; position of the maxilla/mandible; and dentoalveolar changes of the distalization arch tracing the longitudinal axis of incisors/molars regarding the palatal/mandibular plane). Findings show that the OP varied from T1–T2–T3 in all cases, indicating its stepping or flattening. ODI, APDI, SNA, SNB, and ANB changed minimally in all cases, without variations in the mandibular position or in the skeletal diagnosis. Dentoalveolar measurements also showed differences between T1–T2–T3. In summary, conventional orthodontic treatment modified the OP during the first phase of treatment. Moreover, the distalization mechanics with MS changed the OP and produced dentoalveolar changes, mainly in the inclination of incisors and molars. Background: Cranial, facial, nasal, and maxillary widths have been shown to be significantly affected by the individual's sex. The present study aims to use measurements of dental arch and maxillary skeletal base to determine sex, employing supervised machine learning. Materials and methods: Maxillary and mandibular tomographic examinations from 100 patients were analyzed to investigate the inter-premolar width, inter-molar width, maxillary width, inter-pterygoid width, nasal cavity width, nostril width, and maxillary length, obtained through Cone Beam Computed Tomography scans. The following machine learning algorithms were used to build the predictive models: Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting Classifier, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Multi-Layer Perceptron Classifier (MLP), Decision Tree, and Random Forest Classifier. A 10-fold cross-validation approach was adopted to validate each model. Metrics such as area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 Score were calculated for each model, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed. Results: Univariate analysis showed statistical significance (p < 0.10) for all skeletal and dental variables. Nostril width showed greater importance in two models, while Inter-molar width stood out among dental measurements. The models achieved accuracy values ranging from 0.75 to 0.85 on the test data. Logistic Regression, Random Forest, Decision Tree, and SVM models had the highest AUC values, with SVM showing the smallest disparity between cross-validation and test data for accuracy metrics. Conclusion: Transverse dental arch and maxillary skeletal base measurements exhibited strong predictive capability, achieving high accuracy with machine learning methods. Introduction: Asymmetric electromyographic (EMG) activity during teeth clenching has been linked to cognitive impairment, as evaluated by the Spinnler-Tognoni matrices test, and to asymmetric pupil size (anisocoria). Anisocoria indicates an asymmetric Locus Coeruleus activity, leading to an asymmetric hemispheric excitability worsening cognitive performance. Bite splint wearing corrects EMG asymmetry, reduces anisocoria and improves cognitive performance. This study explores the possible effect of EMG asymmetry on oculomotor behavior during text reading. Methods: In subjects showing different degrees of EMG asymmetry during clenching, the number and duration of fixation periods during a reading task, performed under two different occlusal conditions were analyzed. The first lecture was executed with a dental impression (imprint) interposed between the dental arches (corrected condition) and the second one with the arches in direct contact (habitual condition), without clenching effort. The imprint reduced the EMG asymmetries during clenching. Results: In both occlusal conditions, total reading time correlated with duration of fixations, but not with their number. An inverse relation was observed between the number of fixations and their duration across individuals. Fixation frequency and duration were positively and negatively correlated with the amplitude of EMG asymmetry, respectively. Differently, total reading time was not related to the EMG asymmetry. When switching from the corrected to the habitual condition, an increase in the number of fixations and a reduction in their duration was observed, while total reading time could be either increased or decreased. An increased fixation frequency was observed in most of the subjects, while a reduced duration only among individuals with shorter reading times in habitual condition. Discussion: In the habitual condition, EMG asymmetry influences reading patterns (more saccades/shorter fixations, less saccades/longer fixations) in our sample. The changes in text reading behavior elicited by occlusal correction can be explained by assuming that occlusal disharmony negatively interferes with the reading task by increasing the number of saccades necessary for text scanning. This finding may also indicate an increased difficulty in processing of visual information. Background: To examine the buccolingual inclination of maxillary posterior teeth, curve of Wilson, and transversal dimensions in palatally impacted maxillary canine patients, compared to controls by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and methods: Pre-treatment images of 22 bilateral, 32 unilateral impacted maxillary canine patients and 30 controls were included. All patients had palatally impacted canines, with no posterior cross-bite. Data were reclassified in quadrants according to the presence of impaction, as the impaction quadrant (right and left quadrants of 22 bilateral impacted cases, and quadrants presenting impaction of 32 unilateral cases, n = 76), unaffected quadrant (quadrant without impaction in 32 unilateral cases, n = 32) and the control quadrant (right and left quadrants of 30 controls, n = 60) to evaluate the buccolingual inclination angle, transversal width, and arch perimeter. Additionally, comparisons were made regarding curve of Wilson and total arch perimeter among bilateral and unilateral impaction groups with the control group. Statistical analysis was performed by one-way ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis tests. Tukey or Dunn tests were used for comparisons between groups in pairs. Results: No significant difference was found for the buccolingual inclination of maxillary posterior teeth and curve of Wilson among groups. The buccolingual inclination of canines in the impaction quadrant was significantly lower than the other quadrants (p < 0.001). Basal bone width at the level of second premolars, and alveolar width at both premolars were significantly narrower in the impaction quadrant than in the unaffected quadrant (p < 0.05). Dental arch width at the level of first premolar was significantly decreased in the impaction quadrant compared to other quadrants (p < 0.05). Arch perimeter was significantly reduced in the impaction quadrant than in the unaffected quadrant (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The presence of bilateral or unilateral palatally impacted maxillary canines did not effect the buccolingual inclination of posterior teeth, and curve of Wilson. Transverse discrepancy was evident in the impaction quadrant even in the absence of posterior cross-bite. Quadrant analysis was particularly useful in evaluating asymmetry for basal bone and alveolar bone widths in the premolar region in patients with unilateral palatally impacted maxillary canine patients. Background: Many indices have been suggested to help orthodontists in predicting the ideal dental arch width. One of these was Pont's index which was established by Pont. He suggested equations to predict the ideal maxillary dental arch width (interpremolar and intermolar) from the combined mesiodistal width of the maxillary incisors. This study aimed to test the applicability of Pont's index as an orthodontic diagnostic tool in Egyptian population and to compare the results with those obtained from studies of different ethnic subjects. Methods: This study was performed using dental casts of 184 Egyptian individuals (82 males and 102 females; age range, 19–24 years). The casts were divided into 46 casts with normal occlusion, 46 casts with class I, 46 casts with class II and 46 casts with class III malocclusion, according to Angle's classification. Alginate impressions were taken for all patients and poured immediately using dental plaster. The real models were transformed into digital models using three-dimensional laser scanner to allow digital model analysis. Predicted arch widths were calculated using Pont's equations. The predicted values were compared to the measured values. Results: Intra class correlation coefficient (ICC) (absolute agreement) between measured and predicted arch widths was determined. Poor absolute agreement was found between measured arch width values and the corresponding values calculated according to Pont's index. The objective of this study was to assess the relative contributions of genetic and environmental factors to variation in palatal parameters in twins with completed maxillary growth. The subjects of this study comprised digital dental casts of 50 monozygotic and 35 dizygotic twin pairs. The subjects' average age was 17.95 ± 2.83 years. Zygosity determination was carried out using 15 specific DNA markers and an amel fragment of the amelogenin gene. The interdental distances were measured between selected dental landmarks at the occlusal and gingival planes. The palatal height, surface area and volume were measured between the gingival plane and the midpalate suture. High heritability estimates were observed for all transverse intra-arch measurements. The palate height (a2 = 0.8), dental arch width in the molar area (a2 = 0.86), palatal surface area (a2 = 0.61) and palate volume (a2 = 0.69) were under strong additive genetic control. Moderate genetic dominance was observed for dental arch widths at the gingival line in the canine (d2 = 0.5) and premolar regions (d2 = 0.78–0.81). Sexual dimorphism was shown, with males exhibiting a greater arch width, palate surface area and volume than females (p < 0.01). Background: Large variation in the prevalence of ankylosis and replacement resorption (ARR) is reported in the literature and most studies have relatively small patient numbers. The present retrospective study aimed to provide an overview on prevalence, location of, and associated risk factors with ARR based on a large sample of computed tomography (CT) / cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of impacted teeth. The results should allow clinicians to better estimate the risk of ARR at impacted teeth. Methods: The CT/CBCT scans of 5764 patients of a single center in Central Europe were screened with predefined eligibility criteria. The following parameters were recorded for the finally included population: gender, age, tooth type/position, number of impacted teeth per patient, and presence/absence of ARR. For teeth with ARR the tooth location in reference to the dental arch, tooth angulation, and part of the tooth affected by ARR were additionally registered. Results: Altogether, 4142 patients with 7170 impacted teeth were included. ARR was diagnosed at 187 impacted teeth (2.6%) of 157 patients (3.7%); 58% of these patients were female and the number of teeth with ARR per patient ranged from 1 to 10. Depending on the tooth type the prevalence ranged from 0 (upper first premolars, lower central and lateral incisors) to 41.2% (upper first molars). ARR was detected at the crown (57.2%), root (32.1%), or at both (10.7%). After correcting for confounders, the odds for ARR significantly increased with higher age; further, incisors and first/second molars had the highest odds for ARR, while wisdom teeth had the lowest. More specifically, for 20-year-old patients the risk for ARR at impacted incisors and first/second molars ranged from 7.7 to 10.8%, but it approximately tripled to 27.3–35.5% for 40-year-old patients. In addition, female patients had significantly less often ARR at the root, while with increasing age the root was significantly more often affected by ARR than the crown. Conclusion: ARR at impacted teeth is indeed a rare event, i.e., only 2.6% of 7170 impacted teeth were ankylosed with signs of replacement resorption. On the patient level, higher age significantly increased the odds for ARR and on the tooth level, incisors and first/second molars had the highest odds for ARR, while wisdom teeth had the lowest. Simple Summary: The dentition analysis in vertebrates has been a pillar for the development of the classic and alternative theories on the evolution of species. The early dentition pattern consists of numerous, similar, and simple conical teeth, which are typically repeated in each half of both the maxilla and mandible. In mammals, however, dentition is regionally differentiated according to the dental arch, with dietary specialization being the main evolutionary pressure that defines the number, size, and shape of teeth. The developmental failure of a tooth normally present (hypodontia) and duplication of teeth (hyperdontia) is a deviation from the typical dental formula; their analysis allows for determining the prevalence of some dental conditions and their role in the health status of populations. After examining a sample size of 970 skulls of a total of 1121 beavers (Castor canadensis) that were removed in invaded areas of Tierra del Fuego, two dentition anomalies were recorded: hypodontia and hyperdontia (0.41% in both cases). Beavers also presented artifactual tooth loss (0.30%), acquired tooth loss (0.61%), fractured teeth (0.41%), and caries (0.31%). These conditions occurred in all age classes, showing a female bias, and represent a precedent of dentition anomalies and dentition and cranial conditions in an exotic invasive mammal. The study of dentition anomalies and pathologies in wildlife contributes, together with other indicators, to understanding the relevance of some factors on the health status of populations. This has not been properly evaluated in invasive mammals. To test the feasibility of eradication, the government of Tierra del Fuego performed the eradication of beavers (Castor canadensis) from 2016 to 2018: 1121 animals were removed and 970 examined. These beavers were examined to analyze the incidence of dentition anomalies and other dentition and cranial conditions. The beavers presented two dentition anomalies: hypodontia and hyperdontia (0.41% in both cases), and for the first time, a dentition anomaly in the upper quadrants was reported. Beavers also presented artifactual tooth loss (0.30%) and acquired tooth loss (0.61%) but with low incidence. The presence of fractured teeth (0.41%) and caries (0.31%) occurred in all age classes, also with low incidence. The third molar tooth was the most affected, showing a female bias. The 0.93% of skulls had a cranial abnormality represented as a buccal curvature. Malocclusion cases also were recorded (0.51%). The low prevalence of dentition anomalies, fractured teeth, caries, and cranial abnormalities would not compromise the lifespan of beavers. Featured Application: Nail biting is a very common oral disorder whose dental and clinical implication are not well-known. Therefore, this study is a novelty in the field of oral disease since it considers changes on tooth shape caused by nail biting. Nail biting (NB) is a repetitive and uncontrolled parafunctional activity that can affect oral health by altering tooth shape and intraoral position. Nowadays, there is not enough scientific evidence about the impact of NB on teeth; therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of NB on the length, width and inclination of upper central incisors. This retrospective study involved 76 patients, 40 males and 36 females, with a mean age of 10.6 ± 0.3 years. Digital scans of the maxillary arch of each patient were recorded. Next, the length, width and inclination of upper central incisors used and not used for NB were measured. Finally, data were analysed with a paired t-test. Statistical analysis showed statistically significant differences in the length and inclination of upper central incisors used for NB compared with those of upper central incisors not used for NB, while the width did not show a significant difference. There were relevant changes in upper central incisors subjected to NB, demonstrating that NB impairs the shape, morphology and inclination of teeth. An iatrogenic open bite after orthognathic surgery is an uncommon malocclusion, with only one documented case reported in the literature. However, the open bite in this case report was not a true open bite, as it resulted from the interferences between the maxillary second molars and mandibular retromolar bones. This case report aims to present the management of a true iatrogenic open bite with posterior teeth in centric occlusion, occurring after mandibular setback surgery. The anterior open bite accompanied a severe class II malocclusion and increased lower anterior facial height. The patient was treated with fixed lingual appliances and mini-screws to distalize the entire maxillary arch and close the open bite. After treatment, a positive overbite and dental class I relationship was achieved. The treatment outcomes were stable at the 2-year follow-up. Lingual appliances combined with mini-screws may offer effective non-surgical management of iatrogenic open bite after orthognathic surgery. Clinical and Surgical Implications: Iatrogenic open bites can develop from various causes that include surgical options such as orthognathic surgery or in patients treated with occlusal splint therapy. Objective: The goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess whether there were clinically relevant differences in the treatment of edentulous areas comparing zirconia (Zr) and titanium (Ti) dental implants. The null hypothesis is that no differences can be observed in terms of the clinical parameters; the positive hypothesis I is that Zr implants have generally better results compared to Ti implants; and the positive hypothesis II is that Ti implants have a generally superior result than Zr implants. Methods: This review work was registered on the PROSPERO platform, and its development was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. The electronic search process was conducted on three databases (PubMed/Scopus/Web of Science), including randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from the past 10 years (up to April 2024). Identified articles were analyzed and included/excluded based on pre-defined selection and exclusion criteria. The quality assessment and risk of bias were evaluated using a Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment tool specifically designed for randomized trials (RoB2). A meta-analysis was conducted to correlate different treatment options based on the described outcomes; a random-effects model was used in the analysis of the variables. The analysis of heterogeneity was conducted by means of Cochran's Q-test and Higgins' I2 statistic. Results: Six RCTs were enrolled; 152 patients (90 males and 62 females) and 448 implants (267 Zr and 181 Ti) were included. Dental implant placement involved both the maxillary and mandibular arches. The implant sites showed heterogeneity in receiving Zr and Ti dental implants; in particular, 22 dental implants were placed in the mid-palatal region and 426 dental implants in the alveolar region (255 were in Zr and 171 in Ti). Regarding the success rate, it was better for Zr but with no statistical difference (p > 0.05); bleeding on probing had slight differences between Ti with 0.34% ± 0.42 and Zr with 0.26% ± 0.36 (p > 0.05); plaque score showed 0.46 ± 0.47 for Ti compared to 0.44 ± 0.49 for Zr (p > 0.05); no statistically significant difference was observed for pink esthetic score (PES). Statistically significant results were found for survival rate, which favored Ti implants (77.6%) compared to Zr (70.3%) (p < 0.05), and for marginal bone loss, which showed less loss in Ti implants (0.18 mm ± 0.47) compared to 0.42 mm ± 0.40 in Zr at 12 months (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The present systematic review and meta-analysis identified the positive hypothesis I and rejected the null and positive hypothesis II; it was possible to conclude that Ti dental implants have a better survival rate and less marginal bone loss than Zr dental implants after 1-year follow-up. The restoration of endodontically treated teeth (ETT) remains a significant challenge in modern dentistry. These teeth often suffer from substantial structural damage due to both the original pathology and the invasive nature of endodontic procedures. Consequently, ETT are more susceptible to fractures compared to vital teeth, necessitating restorative strategies that can effectively restore both function and aesthetics while minimizing the risk of failure. In recent years, advances in adhesive dentistry and the development of high-strength ceramics have further expanded the restorative options for ETT. Bonded restorations have gained popularity as they preserve more tooth structure and enhance the overall strenght of the tooth-restoration complex. The choice of restorative material and technique is influenced by numerous factors, including the amount of remaining tooth structure, the functional requirements of the tooth, and the aesthetic demands of the patient. Despite the plethora of available materials and techniques, the optimal approach to restoring ETT remains a topic of ongoing research and debate. In this comprehensive review, the current state of and recent advances in restoring damaged endodontically treated teeth are explored. Numerous therapeutic options exist, involving a wide range of materials. This article aims to present the biomaterial advancements of the past decade and their applications, offering alternative approaches to treating damaged ETT with the goal of prolonging their retention on the dental arch and serving as a valuable resource for dental practitioners who face this issue daily. This study aimed to compare implant stabilities between the immediate and early loaded, immediately placed bone‐level tapered dental implants in the maxilla and to evaluate marginal bone loss (MBL), oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL), and patient satisfaction at a 2‐year follow‐up. A pilot, prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted on 24 maxillary failing dentition patients. The bone‐level tapered implants of 12 patients were immediately loaded with temporary restorations, while the other 12 patients did not receive any kind of temporization. Implant‐supported screw‐retained complete porcelain‐fused‐to‐metal prostheses were delivered to all patients in the seventh postoperative week. The insertion torque values of implants assigned to the immediate and early loading groups were 33.0 ± 4.87 and 29.26 ± 8.31 Ncm, respectively. The dynamics of implant stability changes from implant placement up to a 2‐year follow‐up were similar for both groups (Penguin®, p = 0.268; Ostell®, p = 0.552), while the MBL was at submillimeter level. The cumulative implant survival rate was 91.80% for immediately loaded implants and 97.22% for early loaded implants, without significant difference (p = 0.162). The total score on the Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire significantly decreased over time in both groups, indicating improvement in OHRQoL (p < 0.001), and the high level of patient satisfaction remained after 2 years of function regardless of a loading protocol. Both loading protocols, immediate and early, of six immediately placed bone‐level tapered dental implants are an adequate treatment choice for fixed rehabilitation of the maxillary failing dentition. Objectives: The abutments produced with circular symmetry failed to accurately replicate the natural teeth's cervical shapes. The purpose of this study was to measure cervical cross‐sections of maxillary anterior teeth using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images to design anatomic healing abutments. Materials and Methods: CBCT data of 61 patients were analyzed using Ez3D Plus software. Measurements were taken at the cemento‐enamel junction (CEJ) and 1 mm coronal to CEJ for maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines. Various parameters, including area, perimeter, and eight line segments in the distal (a), disto‐palatal (b), palatal (c), mesio‐palatal (d), mesial (e), mesio‐labial (f), labial (g), and disto‐labial (h) directions, were used to describe dental neck contours. The ratios (f/b and h/d) were analyzed, and differences based on sex and dental arch morphology were explored. Results: Significant differences were found in area and perimeter between males and females, but not in f/b and h/d ratios. Differences in the f/b ratio were observed among dental arch morphologies for maxillary central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines. Conclusions: CBCT measurements of cervical cross‐sections provide more accurate data for designing anatomic healing abutments. The fabrication of anatomical healing abutments needs to consider the influence of gender on cervical size and to explore the potential effect of arch shape on cervical morphology. Clinical Significance: The novel method provides detailed measurements for the description of dental cervical contours for patients with bilateral homonymous teeth missing.
