Oscillations periodic in longitudinal optical phonon energy in the photoconductivity of ZnSe were observed. Unlike in InSb, no diminishing effect in the magnitude of the oscillations was observed as field strengths were increased.

The effective mass of p-Te increases as the cyclotron frequency approaches the longitudinal optical phonon frequency of 116 cm −1 . This increase is caused by hole-phonon interaction and valence band nonparabolicity.

We present Raman scattering results on longitudinal optical phonons in GaAs/GaAlAs superlattices, which are successfully analysed using a Kronig-Penney-like model. Their behaviour continuously evolves from confined to folded as a function of their frequency. Confined phonons, which are very sensitive to limiting conditions, are used as a probe of interface sharpness in GaAs/AlAs superlattices. They give evidence of a graded interface whose thickness increases with growth temperature.

The rate of energy loss of hot carriers is calculated as a function of the carrier density by assuming that the energy loss is due to interactions with longitudinal optical phonons. It is found that for low effective mass carriers, both the screening and the Fermi degeneracy greatly reduce the energy loss even at room temperature.
