Intravenous leiomyomatosis is a rare variant of leiomyoma that could result in death. Early and accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment strategies play a dominant role in good prognosis. Eighteen cases of Intravenous leiomyomatosis , along with clinicopathologic data, were retrieved from our database. Most of the patients who ranged in age from 33 to 54 years (median, 44 years) presented with a pelvic mass or abnormal uterine bleeding. The diagnosis was confirmed by a immunohistochemical staining for smooth muscle actin, CD34, and Ki67. Surgical exploration confirmed the presence of a uterine mass (mean size, 5.08 cm). Wormlike plugs were identified within the broad ligament in 5 cases. The tumor penetrated to the inferior vena cava in 1 case. Histologic variants were noted in 33.33% (6/18) of our cases, which were classified as cellular intravenous leiomyomatosis (3 cases) and intravenous leiomyomatosis with papillary-like contour (1 case) and with fat metaplasia (2 cases). The 18 cases are made up 0.097% of all genital smooth muscle tumor cases of the hospital. The ratios of intravenous leiomyomatosis with uterine leiomyoma, with adenomyosis, with uterine leiomyoma and adenomyosis were 38.89% (7/18), 11.11% (2/18), and 27.78% (5/18), respectively. Follow-up information was available for 16 patients, with a follow-up duration of 26 to 104 months (mean, 55 months). Three cases (16.67%) recurred in patients younger than 40 years (33, 34, and 37 years). We propose that young patients undertake hysterectomy and unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy if they do not have any birthing requests. The cases of intravenous leiomyomatosis were underestimated because early diagnosis was easily missed. It is important to adequately sample all uterine leiomyomas and carefully examine the soft tissue on either side of the lower uterine segment below the peritoneal reflection to identify early-stage intravenous leiomyomatosis., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Inc. An analytical formula is used to predict the accurate P-branch spectral lines of rovibrational transitions for diatomic systems. The formula is derived from elementary expression of molecular total energy by taking multiple spectral differences. It is not only reproduces the known experimental transition lines by using a group of fifteen known experimental transition data, but also predicts the accurate spectral lines that may not be available experimentally. The P-branch emission spectra of the (0,1), (0,2) and (0,3) bands of the B(2)∑(+)→X(2)∑(+) system in the (12)C(17)O(+) molecular ion are studied, and correct values of the unknown spectral lines up to J=80.5 for each band are predicted using the formula., (Crown Copyright © 2011. The goal of this study was to develop an applied technique for the removal and recovery of heavy metal in wastewater. It is novel that the Cr(VI) could be adsorbed and recovered by bio-functional magnetic beads. Furthermore, the magnetic separation technology would make their separation more convenient. The beads were constituted by the powder of Rhizopus cohnii and Fe(3)O(4) particles coated with alginate and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The parameters effecting Cr(VI) removal were obtained: the optimum pH 1.0 and optimum temperature 28 degrees C. The biosorption took place mainly in form of Cr(VI) and R. cohnii biomass played a key role in Cr(VI) adsorption. The model of Langmuir isotherm and Lagergren could be better used to fit the sorption process and kinetics, respectively. The beads still maintained predominant characteristics of adsorption, recovery and magnetism after five cycles for adsorption-desorption. The mechanism of adsorption was gained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), raman spectroscopy (RS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The groups of -NH(3)(+), -NH(2)(+)-, and NH- played an important role in the Cr(VI) adsorption. Consequently, the beads exhibited the superior performances in Cr(VI) cleanup, separation and recovery and the perspective potential in application.

The main goal of this study was to exploit low-cost and efficient sorbents for the removal and recovery of Cr(VI) in wastewater. Three supports of sawdust, polyurethane and alginate were applied to immobilize living and dead R. cohnii cells, respectively. There was a distinct increase in the Cr(VI) removal efficiency before and after the HCl-pretreatment. Langmuir adsorption isotherm model was well used to describe the distribution of Cr(VI) between the liquid and solid phases in batch studies. The values of q0 predicted by Thomas model were near to experimental ones in the experiments of packed column. The breakthrough curves calculated with this model were consistent well with experimental ones at a largely extent. Desorption, regeneration and reuse of the packed column were studied. After 5 cycles, adsorption capacity was still kept at higher level, reaching to 91.4, 87.9, 91.4 and 93.3mg/l contrasted with the first cycle (94.1, 90.4, 94.8 and 98.5mg/l) and the desorption efficiency were 85.0%, 96.2%, 93.4% and 91.4% compared with the first cycle (87.6%, 95.4%, 96.7% and 94.3%), corresponding to living cells immobilized with sawdust, polyurethane, and dead cells immobilized with polyurethane and alginate, respectively. The results indicated that the packed columns with the immobilized living and dead R. cohnii cells were the better option to adsorb, desorb and recover Cr(VI) from wastewater.

This study reported the hexavalent chromium removal by untreated Mucor racemosus biomass and the possible mechanism of Cr (VI) removal to the biomass. The optimum pH, biomass dose, initial Cr (VI) concentration and contact time were investigated thoroughly to optimize the removal condition. The metal removal by the biomass was strongly affected by pH and the optimum pH ranged from 0.5 to 1.0. The residual total Cr was determined. It was found that dichromate reduction occurred at a low very low pH value. At biomass dose 6 g/l, almost all the Cr (VI) ions were removed in the optimum condition. Higher removal percentage was observed at lower initial concentrations of Cr (VI) ions, while the removal capacity of the biomass linearly depended on the initial Cr (VI) concentration. More than half of Cr (VI) ions were diminished within 1 h of contact and removal process reached a relative equilibrium in approximately 8 h. Almost all of the Cr (VI) ions were removed in 24 h when initial concentrations were below 100 mg/l. The equilibrium data were fitted in to the Langmuir and the Freundlich isotherm models and the correlated coefficients were gained from the models. A Fourier transform infrared spectra was employed to elucidate clearly the possible biosorption mechanism as well.

The rapid detection and separation of Staphylococcus aureus and group G Streptococcus was based on the affinity chromatography interactions between Fc fragment of human IgG and protein A/G (located on the cell wall of S. aureus and group G Streptococcus). In this case, immobilization of antibodies had to take place in a different and complementary way than in the case of conventional immunosensors. In this study, three different kinds of immunomolecular-magnetic beads (IMB) were prepared for rapid detection and separation of S. aureus and group G Streptococcus (GGS). The Fc regions of the immobilized antibodies were fully accessible to adsorb protein A or protein G. On the contrary, conventional immunosensors had to have fully accessible Fab regions to facilitate the antigen-antibody recognition. It was suggested that the worse method of immobilization of the antibodies for conventional use would yield the better results for this specific use. In this study, we also perfectly solved the nonspecific adsorptions and interaction problems, which were the most serious critical problems for all kinds of sensors. It was achieved by blocking the excess surface groups of aldehyde IMB and the Fab region of the immobilized antibodies with aldehyde-dextran.
