• Monitoring and modeling are combined to evaluate hydrologic effects of LID. • LID can reduce runoff volume, peak flow and extend lag time under large storm events. • Hydrologic restoration degrees change under different runoff volume capture goals. For urban stormwater management, the low impact development (LID) concept has been widely applied due to its perceived beneficial effects on restoring to the original hydrological cycle. Through both field monitoring and mathematical modeling, this research evaluated the combined effects of several LID measures, especially under heavy rainfall events that could otherwise have caused flooding problems. A pilot sponge-city project in China was evaluated as a case study. Comparison of hydrologic quantities among different scenarios under large storm events was made through modeling. The results demonstrated that the runoff volume capture ratio of the existing LID plan for the monitoring period is 97% and it can reduce the volume of runoff by 50.8–74.6%, reduce peak flow rate by 72.3–87.5% and extend the lag time by 12–30 min. If the volume capture ratio of annual rainfall goal of 80% is solely met, the resulting LID plan can't restore to the natural hydrology. In order to restore close to the original hydrological cycle, especially under the larger storm events, the volume capture ratio of annual rainfall should be set to 82% for the pilot project. Bubble transportation and related flotation are ubiquitous phenomena in nature and industry. Various surfaces with distinct morphologies and specific wettability properties have been engineered by organisms in nature and by humans to facilitate the targeted movement of bubbles. However, existing methods predominantly rely on continuous surfaces, limiting the ability of bubbles to deviate from their path before reaching their intended destination. Therefore, directional transportation of bubbles using noncontiguous surfaces still remains a significant challenge. Inspired by water spiders' ability to capture bubbles underwater using their hydrophobic surface for survival, we propose a novel transport strategy that utilizes patterned superhydrophobic surfaces (PSHSs) and a superhydrophobic tweezer. This strategy is implemented by switching between the hood mode and puncture mode of the moving three-phase contact lines to load and unload the bubble. To quantitatively evaluate the loss ratio of the bubble during transportation, a simple and exquisite bubble-weighing apparatus is devised. Our findings indicate that circular PSHSs demonstrate superior bubble adhesion and achieve the highest bubble transport ratio of 95.1%. In order to validate the promising application of this novel method, we employ the computer numerical control (CNC) technology to facilitate the autonomous loading and precise transportation of underwater bubbles, as well as the blending and ionization of combustible gas bubbles with air bubbles at different volume ratios.

Sodium dehydroacetate (DHA-Na) is a fungicidal preservative widely used in food and animal feed. DHA-Na can induce coagulation disorders in rats and poultry by inhibiting carboxylation of vitamin K-dependent proteins; it can also impair bone development in zebrafish. However, the effects of DHA-Na on broiler chicken bones remain unknown. Here, we assessed whether DHA-Na impairs bone development in broiler chickens. We administered Suji yellow chickens with 200 to 800 mg/kg DHA-Na, 2 mg/kg vitamin K, or both for 2 mo. Bone metabolite-related serum indicators, tissue micromorphology, and relevant protein expression were monitored during the treatment period. We also assessed primary chicken osteoblast activity, differentiation, and bone metabolite-related proteins after treatment with DHA-Na, vitamin K, or both. The results demonstrated that DHA-Na reduced bone index values and serum and bone osteoblast differentiation marker levels but blocked bone vitamin K cycle. DHA-Na also increased serum osteoclast differentiation marker levels, as well as the bone ratio of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand to osteoprotegerin ratio. Moreover, DHA-Na reduced bone trabecular number, thickness, and area and increased trabecular separation considerably. In general, compared with the control group, the DHA-Na group demonstrated impairments in osteoblast activity and differentiation, as well as in the vitamin K cycle. By contrast, vitamin K supplementation led to considerable attenuation of the DHA-Na-induced decrease in osteogenic marker levels, along with a considerable increase in serum bone absorption marker levels and restoration of DHA-Na-induced bone microstructure damage. Vitamin K also attenuated DHA-Na-induced impairment in osteoclasts. In conclusion, the results indicated that in broiler chickens, DHA-Na supplementation can damage bones by inhibiting osteoblast function and increasing osteoclast activity; this damage can be prevented through vitamin K supplementation., (Copyright © 2024. A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method with vonoprazan fumarate-d4 as a stable isotope-labeled internal standard was developed and validated aiming at quantification of vonoprazan fumarate in human plasma for a bioequivalence study. Chromatographic separation was achieved by acetonitrile one-step protein precipitation using a gradient elution of 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution and acetonitrile with a run time of 3.65 min. Detection was carried out on a tandem mass spectrometer in multiple reaction monitoring mode via a positive electrospray ionization interface. The multiple reaction monitoring mode of precursor-product ion transitions for vonoprazan fumarate and vonoprazan fumarate-d4 were m/z 346.0 → 315.1 and 350.0 → 316.0, respectively. The linear range was 0.150-60.000 ng/ml. This method was fully validated with acceptable results in terms of selectivity, carryover, lower limit of quantification, calibration curve, accuracy, precision, dilution effect, matrix effect, stability, recovery and incurred sample reanalysis. Purpose: This study assessed effect of food on pharmacokinetics (PK) and safety of fuzuloparib capsules., Methods: A randomized, open-label, two-cycle, two-sequence, crossover clinical trial was conducted. 20 subjects were randomly assigned to 2 groups at a 1:1 ratio. The first group subjects were orally administered 150 mg fuzuloparib capsules under fasting condition in first dosing cycle. The same dose of fuzuloparib capsules were taken under postprandial state after a 7-day washout period. The second group was reversed. 3 ml whole blood was collected at each blood collection point until 72 h post dose. PK parameters were calculated. Furthermore, safety assessment was performed., Results: The time to maximum concentration (T max ) was prolonged to 3 h and maximum concentration (C max ) decreased by 18.6% on high-fat diets. 90% confidence intervals (CIs) of geometric mean ratios (GMRs) for C max , area under the concentration-time curve from time zero to time t (AUC 0-t ), and area under the concentration-time curve extrapolated to infinity (AUC 0-∞ ) after high-fat meal were 71.6-92.6%, 81.7-102.7% and 81.6-102.5%, respectively. All treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were grade 1; No serious adverse events (SAEs), serious unexpected suspected adverse reaction (SUSAR) or deaths were reported., Conclusion: Food decreased the absorption rate and slowed time to peak exposure of fuzuloparib capsules, without impact on absorption extent. Here, we present a method for Salmonella detection using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats associated with the CRISPR-associated protein 12a-hybridization chain reaction (CRISPR/Cas12a-HCR) system combined with polymerase chain reaction/recombinase-assisted amplification (PCR/RAA) technology. The approach relies on the Salmonella invA gene as a biorecognition element and its amplification through PCR and RAA. In the presence of the target gene, Cas12a, guided by crRNA, recognizes and cleaves the amplification product, initiating the HCR. Fluorescently labeled single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) H1 and H2 were introduced, and the Salmonella concentration was determined based on the fluorescence intensity from the triggered HCR. Both assays demonstrate high specificity, sensitivity, simplicity, and rapidity. The detection range was 2 × 10 1 -2 × 10 9 CFU/mL, with an LOD of 20 CFU/mL, and the entire process enabled specific and rapid Salmonella detection within 85-105 min. Field-incurred spiked recovery tests were conducted in mutton and beef samples using both assays, demonstrating satisfactory recovery and accuracy in animal-derived foods. By combining CRISPR/Cas12a with hybridization chain reaction technology, this study presents a rapid and sensitive Salmonella detection method that is crucial for identifying pathogenic bacteria and monitoring food safety.

A multifunction processor for a broadband signal based on the active mode-locking optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The central frequency down-conversion and frequency spectrum convolution of the target broadband signal (TBS) are realized by just tuning the wavelength of the optical carrier or by the time domain product, respectively. To achieve the central frequency down-conversion of the TBS, an optical tunable delay line (OTDL) is adopted to match the delay time of the OEO loop with the repetition period of the TBS. Then the spectrum convolution of the TBS is produced by just injecting a lower frequency signal consistent with the free spectral range (FSR) of the OEO loop. Moreover, the frequency convolution repetition is also greatly increased by harmonic mode-locking injection. The equivalent bandwidth of the TBS is enlarged by ∼50 times, benefiting from the frequency convolution. The central frequency conversion flexibility and the bandwidth compatibility are also discussed in detail. This work provides a multifunction processor system and may have potential usage in multifunctional integrated radar systems.

Vitamin K (VK), a fat‑soluble vitamin, is well known as an anticoagulant in the clinic. It is essential for the post‑translational activation of VK‑dependent proteins (VKDPs) because hydroquinone VK is a cofactor of glutamine carboxylase. At present, 17 VKDPs are known, which are mainly involved in coagulation and calcification. When Glu residues are carboxylated to Gla residues, these proteins gain a higher calcium‑binding ability, which explains why VK has an important role in blood coagulation and biomineralization. However, the current view on the role of VK and several VKDPs in biomineralization remains inconsistent. For instance, conflicting results have been reported regarding the effect of osteocalcin gene knockout on the bone of mice; matrix Gla protein (MGP) promotes osteoblasts mineralization but inhibits vascular smooth muscle cell mineralization. The present review aimed to summarize the existing evidence that several VKDPs, including osteocalcin, MGP, Gla‑rich protein and growth arrest specific 6 are closely related to calcification, including bone health, vascular calcification and lithiasis. The current review discussed these controversies and provided suggestions for future studies on VKDPs, i.e. taking into account dietary habits, geographical environments and genetic backgrounds.

Piezoelectric ultrasonic-assisted precision machining (PUAPM) technology is considered to be an efficient and environmentally friendly machining strategy by virtue of cutting force reduction, ductile cutting promotion, tool wear and machining noise reduction. Piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer (PUT) provides ultrasonic energy for PUAPM system, which is the core component to ensure the normal operation of the system. PUTs for PUAPM devices have emerged endlessly in recent decades and have been successfully applied in many fields, such as MEMS, biomedicine, optoelectronics, aerospace, etc. However, there is no comprehensive classification and analysis of the basic configurations, excitation principles, typical structures, performance analyses and control strategies for PUT. This work gives a critical review of research on PUT in recent years, especially the structural optimization, application expansion and ultrasonic energy stabilization in PUAPM. The influence mechanism of excitation mode, modal type, modal combination, horn structure and ceramic arrangement on the optimization of PUT structure is summarized. The improvement effect and mechanism of PUT vibration dimension, amplitude, frequency and structural characteristics on surface roughness, surface texture and cutting force are discussed. In addition, the causes of PUT amplitude fluctuation, and the influence of sensing and control methods on PUT amplitude regulation and system integration are analyzed. Introduction: Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) are major intestinal coronaviruses that cause vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and mortality in piglets. These viruses coexist and lead to significant economic losses in the swine industry. Virus-like particles (VLPs) have emerged as promising alternatives to conventional inactivated vaccines due to their exceptional safety, efficacy, and ability to provide multi-disease protection with a single dose., Methods: Our study focused on specific antigenic epitopes from the PEDV S protein (SS2 and 2C10 regions) and the TGEV S protein (A and D sites) as target candidates. These epitopes were integrated into the ADDomer framework, and we successfully generated recombinant proteins AD, AD-P, AD-T, and AD-PT using the baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS). By meticulously optimizing conditions in High Five cells, we successfully expressed and purified the recombinant proteins. Subsequently, we developed the recombinant ADDomer-VLP vaccine and conducted a comprehensive evaluation of its efficacy in piglets., Results: Following ultrafiltration concentration and sucrose gradient centrifugation purification, the recombinant proteins self-assembled into VLPs as observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Administration of the vaccine did not result in any adverse reactions in the immunized piglets. Additionally, no significant instances of fever were detected in any of the experimental groups, and there were no notable changes in average daily weight gain compared to the control group that received PBS. The recombinant ADDomer-VLP vaccines demonstrated strong immunogenicity, effectively stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against both PEDV and TGEV. This comprehensive review focuses on heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs), a class of chemicals that commonly form during the cooking or processing of protein-rich foods. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has categorized certain HAAs as probable human carcinogens, highlighting the significance of studying their formation and control in food safety research. The main objective of this review is to address the knowledge gaps regarding HAAs formation and propose approaches to reduce their potential toxicity during thermal processing. By summarizing the mechanisms involved in HAAs formation and inhibition, the review encompasses both conventional and recent detection methods. Furthermore, it explores the distribution of HAAs in thermally processed meats prepared through various cooking techniques and examines their relative toxicity. Additionally, considering that the Maillard reaction, responsible for HAAs formation, also contributes to the unique flavors and aromas of cooked meat products, this review investigates the potential effects of inhibiting HAAs formation on flavor substances. The wind-dispersed seeds can rotate and fall like small vehicles with the help of the wind to obtain a longer propagation distance. Inspired by this, we propose a novel bubble-driven three-bladed whirling-swimmer (WS) to travel in the fluid as a vehicle. Four types of WSs with blade folding angles (φ) ranging from 10 to 60° were designed, and their swimming performance was evaluated. Regardless of the WS shape, the velocity increases linearly with φ, while the angular frequency exhibits an asymptotic value. Further, both the St and rotational energy of the WS peak at 20° ≤ φ ≤ 30° for different WS shapes as well as the vertical force and the hydrodynamic torque were solved from a proposed mechanics model. This folding angle range is unexpectedly consistent with the coning angle during maple samaras' stable falling. The WS lift and drag forces greatly depend on the interaction between the leading-edge vortex and the hub vortex. The results showed that the WS-IV seems to have the highest performance. Our work may shed new light on developing unpowered wireless swimmers of high swimming performance to provide a new way for underwater information collection, information transmission, and enhanced mixing.

Ensuring food safety is paramount worldwide. Developing effective detection methods to ensure food safety can be challenging owing to trace hazards, long detection time, and resource-poor sites, in addition to the matrix effects of food. Personal glucose meter (PGM), a classic point-of-care testing device, possesses unique application advantages, demonstrating promise in food safety. Currently, many studies have used PGM-based biosensors and signal amplification technologies to achieve sensitive and specific detection of food hazards. Signal amplification technologies have the potential to greatly improve the analytical performance and integration of PGMs with biosensors, which is crucial for solving the challenges associated with the use of PGMs for food safety analysis. This review introduces the basic detection principle of a PGM-based sensing strategy, which consists of three key factors: target recognition, signal transduction, and signal output. Representative studies of existing PGM-based sensing strategies combined with various signal amplification technologies (nanomaterial-loaded multienzyme labeling, nucleic acid reaction, DNAzyme catalysis, responsive nanomaterial encapsulation, and others) in the field of food safety detection are reviewed. Future perspectives and potential opportunities and challenges associated with PGMs in the field of food safety are discussed. The glucose metabolism of poultry draws wide attention as they have nearly twice the fasting blood glucose than that of mammals. To define the relationship between glucose metabolism and breed of chicken, the outcomes from different growth rate chickens showed that Arbor Acres (AA) broilers, a well-known fast-growing breed, had a lower fasting blood glucose concentration and glucose clearance rate when compared to Silky chickens, a Chinese traditional medicinal chicken with black skin and a slow growth rate. Moreover, AA broilers had a relatively slow rise in blood glucose in response to oral glucose solution than the Silky chickens on 21 and 42 d ( P  < 0.05), which is probably attributed to downregulated expression of pancreatic insulin ( INS ), and upregulated transcription of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxy kinase 1 ( PCK1 ) and glucose transporter 2 ( GLUT2 ) in the liver of AA broilers ( P  < 0.05). In response to feeding restriction from 7 to 21 d, both the fasting blood glucose and the response speed of AA broilers to oral glucose were increased on d 21 ( P  < 0.05), and the serum glucose concentrations after 3 weeks compensatory growth were improved by early feed restriction in AA broilers. Feed restriction could also upregulate the mRNA level of pancreatic INS on d 21 and 42, as well as decrease the expressions of PCK1 , glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic ( G6PC ), and GLUT2 in the liver on d 21 ( P  < 0.05) when compared to the free feeding group. These results revealed that Silky chickens have a stronger capability to regulate glucose homeostasis than AA broilers, and feed restriction could improve the fasting blood glucose and the response to oral glucose of AA broilers., (© 2023 The Authors. The activity and stability of supported metal catalysts, which exhibit high efficiency and activity, are significantly influenced by the interactions between the metal and the support, that is, metal-support interactions (MSIs). Here, we report an investigation of the MSIs between supported rhenium (Re) and oxide supports such as TiO 2 , SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , MgO, V 2 O 5 , and ZrO 2 using experimental and computational approaches. The reducibility of the Re species was found to strongly depend on the oxide support. Experimental studies including temperature-programmed reduction by H 2 as well as Re L 3 - and L 1 -edge X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analysis revealed that the valency of the Re species started to decrease upon H 2 reduction in the 200-400 °C range, except for Re on MgO, where the shift occurred at temperatures above 500 °C. The dependence of the Re L 3 - and L 1 -edge XANES spectra of the oxide-supported Re catalysts on the size of Re was also examined.

The phenomenon of near-wall particle settling in a stratified fluid is an emerging topic in the field of multiphase flow, and it is also widely found in nature and engineering applications. In stratified fluids, particle settling characteristics are affected by the physical and chemical properties of the upper and lower fluids, the particle size, the particle density, and the initial sedimentation conditions. In this study, the main objective is to determine the effect of liquid viscosity and particle density on the detaching process, and the trajectory and velocity of near-wall settling particles in stratified fluids. The inertia and velocity of the particle had a greater impact on the tail pinch-off model in low-viscosity lower fluids; that is, the lower the inertia and velocity, the more apparent the order between deep and shallow seal pinch-off. In comparison, in high-viscosity lower fluids, the tail pinch-off models of different inertia and velocity particles were similar. In terms of particle trajectory, the transverse motion of the particle in the low-viscosity lower fluid exhibited abrupt changes; that is, the particles moved away from the wall suddenly, whereas in the high-viscosity lower fluid, the transverse movement was gradual. Due to the existence of the wall, the transverse motion direction of the free settling particles in the stratified fluid, which is determined by the rotation direction of the particles, changed to a direction away from the wall regardless of the particle rotation direction. This transverse movement also caused the particle settling velocity to drop suddenly or its rising rate to decrease, this is because part of the energy was used for transverse motion and to increase the transverse velocity. In our study, the near-wall settling of particles in a stratified fluid mainly affected the particle trajectory; that is, forced movement away from the wall, thus changing the particle velocity. This characteristic provides a new approach to manipulate particles away from the wall.

Objective: Diet acidification supplementation is known to influence intestinal morphology, gut microbiota, and on phosphorus (P) utilization of broilers. Alterations in intestinal barrier and microbiota have been associated with systemic inflammation and thus regulating bone turnover. Hence the effect of acidifier addition to drinking water on tibia mass and the linkages between intestinal integrity and bone were studied., Methods: One-d-old male broilers were randomly assigned to normal water (control) or continuous supply of acidified water (2% the blend of 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutyric acid, lactic, and phosphoric acid) group with 5 replicates of 10 chicks per replicate for 42 d., Results: Acidification of drinking water improved the ash percentage and calcium content of tibia at 42 d. Broilers receiving acidified water had increased serum P concentration compared to control birds. The acidified group showed improved intestinal barrier, evidenced by increased wall thickness, villus height, the villus height to crypt depth ratio, and upregulated mucin-2 expression in ileum. Broilers receiving drinking water containing mixed organic acids had a higher proportion of Firmicutes and the ratio of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes, as well as a lower population of Proteobacteria. Meanwhile, the addition of acidifier to drinking water resulted in declined ileal and serum proinflammatory factors level and increased immunoglobulin concentrations in serum. Concerning bone remodeling, acidifier addition was linked to a decrease in serum C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase reflecting bone resorption, whereas it did not apparently change serum alkaline phosphatase activity that is a bone formation marker., Conclusion: Acidified drinking water increased tibia mineral deposition of broilers, which was probably linked with higher P utilization and decreased bone resorption through improved intestinal integrity and gut microbiota and through decreased systemic inflammation.

This study aimed to investigate the mismatch between the preferred and actual roles in the medical decision-making of intensive care unit (ICU) patients' family members and the relationship between the role mismatch of family members' decisions and anxiety and depression syndromes. A total of 223 family members of ICU patients in the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University in China were enrolled. The simple Chinese version of the Control Preference Scale was used to complete the surveys to assess the preferred and actual roles, and anxiety and depression syndromes were measured using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scale and Patient Health Questionnaire-9, respectively. For the preferred and actual roles, the active role rates were 16.1% and 8.1%, the cooperative role rates were 49.3% and 31.4%, and the passive role rates were 34.5% and 60.5%, respectively. The incidence of mismatch was 43.0% between the preferred and actual roles, and the consistency between their preferred and actual decision-making roles was poor (kappa = 0.309, P  < 0.001). Family members with mismatched decision-making roles had significantly higher incidence rates of anxiety (90.6% vs. 57.5%, P  < 0.001) and depression (86.5% vs. 63.0%, P  < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that mismatches in decision-making roles remained independently associated with these outcomes after adjustment for family members' sociodemographic features. The results of the present study demonstrate that the preferred role of ICU patients' family members is mainly cooperative, and the actual role is mainly passive. Gut microbiota interfered with using prebiotics may improve bone mass and alleviate the onset of bone problems. This study aimed to investigate the beneficial effect of resistant starch from raw potato starch (RPS) on bone health in meat ducks. Response to the dietary graded level of RPS supplementation, both tibia strength and ash were taken out linear and quadratic increase and positively correlated with increased propionate and butyrate levels in cecal content. In this paper, we for the first time propose and investigate a novel discrete Fourier transform-spread-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with quadrature index modulation (DFT-S-OFDM-QIM) scheme for practical visible light communication (VLC) systems. By performing subcarrier index modulation on both the in-phase and quadrature components of each subcarrier, OFDM-QIM achieves a higher spectral efficiency than conventional OFDM with index modulation (OFDM-IM). Moreover, the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM-QIM can be substantially reduced by applying DFT spreading, and hence DFT-S-OFDM-QIM exhibits high tolerance against light-emitting diode (LED) nonlinearity. The superiority of the proposed DFT-S-OFDM-QIM scheme over other benchmark schemes has been successfully verified by both simulation and experimental results.

Background: Here, by using the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced mice sepsis model, we treated septic wild-type (WT) mice or MEK1 DD mice with rigosertib to evaluate its prospective effects on sepsis., Methods: We also generated macrophages derived from bone marrow from WT or MEK1 DD mice. This work presents a novel constant frequency ultrasonicamplitude control (CFUAC) method based on fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (FPID) and amplitude direct feedback. The frequency shift and amplitude nonlinearity of the piezoelectric transducer (PT) are measured to determine the optimal constant control frequency of 19.2 kHz. The FPID controller is designed to adapt to the nonlinear changes in different target amplitudes and loads. A direct PT amplitude feedback method is used to improve the signal's anti-interference ability and accuracy. The 5% settling time and steady-state error of FPID can reach 92.22 ms and [Formula: see text] at the step response under 24 [Formula: see text]. The 5% settling time and steady-state error of FPID are less than 131.44 ms and [Formula: see text] at 10 [Formula: see text] under 150 N. The results confirmthat fast and precise control of the vibration amplitude of an ultrasonic transducer can be realized by the proposed method. The new CFUAC method lays a foundation for revealing the ultrasonic welding and metal processing (UWMP) mechanism and helps to expand the application of ultrasonic vibration in the fields of precision machining and high dynamic ultrasonicmedical equipment.

Herein, a novel visual method for detecting triazophos based on competitive bio-barcode immunoassay was described. The competitive immunoassay was established by gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), magnetic microparticle (MMPs) and triazophos, combined with biochip hybridization system to detect the residual of triazophos in water and apple. Because AuNPs carried many bio-barcodes, which hybridized with labeled DNA on the biochip, catalyzed signal amplification using silver staining was detected by grayscale values as well as the naked eye. Notably, the grayscale values decreases with increasing the concentrations of triazophos, and the color change weakened gradually. The detection range was in between 0.05 and 10 ng/mL and the minimum detection limit was set at 0.04 ng/mL. Percent recovery calculated from spiked water and apple samples ranged between 55.4 and 107.8% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 12.4-24.9%. Both effective detection demand against diversified development of flight targets and remote sensing providing identifiable and fine target information all call for microwave radar system with flexible and ultra-wideband frequency-domain ability to provide more high-resolution and multi-source information. A microwave photonic radar system with theoretically full-band and ultra-wideband working ability is presented and experimentally demonstrated. An optical frequency operation module is employed in the transmitter to break the frequency-domain limitation on the emitted radar signal, while two types of optical mixing structures are switched to provide the ability to receive target echoes at any frequency band. In the experiments, high-SNR optical frequency operation and subsequent waveform generation at each normal radar band, that is from HF to Ka, are carried out. Good linearity and coherence of the generated waveforms are also demonstrated. Then, multi-band system-level detection experiments are completed to show the full-band working ability. Centimeter-scale or even sub-centimeter-scale resolution are realized at different bands, which identifies the proposed system can handle target detection with flexible performance and support acquiring rich target information at different frequency bands in future.

Oxidative dispersion has been widely used in regeneration of sintered metal catalysts and fabrication of single atom catalysts, which is attributed to an oxidation-induced dispersion mechanism. However, the interplay of gas-metal-support interaction in the dispersion processes, especially the gas-metal interaction has not been well illustrated. Here, we show dynamic dispersion of silver nanostructures on silicon nitride surface under reducing/oxidizing conditions and during carbon monoxide oxidation reaction. Utilizing environmental scanning (transmission) electron microscopy and near-ambient pressure photoelectron spectroscopy/photoemission electron microscopy, we unravel a new adsorption-induced dispersion mechanism in such a typical oxidative dispersion process. The strong gas-metal interaction achieved by chemisorption of oxygen on nearly-metallic silver nanoclusters is the internal driving force for dispersion. In situ observations show that the dispersed nearly-metallic silver nanoclusters are oxidized upon cooling in oxygen atmosphere, which could mislead to the understanding of oxidation-induced dispersion. We further understand the oxidative dispersion mechanism from the view of dynamic equilibrium taking temperature and gas pressure into account, which should be applied to many other metals such as gold, copper, palladium, etc. and other reaction conditions.

The upper catchment of the Miyun reservoir is an important drinking water source in Beijing. In recent years, researchers have used the soil conservation service curve number (SCS-CN) model to calculate surface runoff for the district. Although the runoff forecasting accuracy was unsatisfactory, the lack of understanding of rainfall processes and their influence on runoff may explain the observed deviations. Our study sought to optimize and assess the SCS-CN model simulation accuracy for the district by proposing an SCS-CN calculation method for each runoff event (CN t ) based on observation data for 253 rainfall and runoff events from 7 plots in the Miyun Shixia watershed. This study elucidated a significant positive correlation between the ratio of CN t and the average SCS-CN (CN 1 ), as well as the ratio of the maximum X-minute rainfall amount (P X ) to the total rainfall amount for each rainfall event (P). Furthermore, a calculation method involving power function equations between CN t /CN 1 and P X /P was proposed for CN t . When X = 5 min and the initial abstraction ratio (λ) = 0.01, the simulation performance of the optimized model was the highest, with a Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient of 0.791, which was significantly higher than that of the non-optimized SCS-CN model. The simulation performance for bare and cultivated land was higher than that of other land uses, with E f values of 0.831 and 0.828, respectively. Future research should focus on improving the prediction accuracy of runoff events resulting from high-intensity and short-duration rainfall events.

The direct functionalization of methane into platform chemicals is arguably one of the holy grails in chemistry. The actual active sites for methane activation are intensively debated. By correlating a wide variety of characterization results with catalytic performance data we have been able to identify mononuclear Fe species as the active site in the Fe/ZSM-5 zeolites for the mild oxidation of methane with H 2 O 2 at 50 °C. The 0.1% Fe/ZSM-5 catalyst with dominant mononuclear Fe species possess an excellent turnover rate (TOR) of 66 mol MeOH mol Fe -1 h -1 , approximately 4 times higher compared to the state-of-the-art dimer-containing Fe/ZSM-5 catalysts. Based on a series of advanced in situ spectroscopic studies and 1 H- and 13 C- nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), we found that methane activation initially proceeds on the Fe site of mononuclear Fe species. With the aid of adjacent Brønsted acid sites (BAS), methane can be first oxidized to CH 3 OOH and CH 3 OH, and then subsequently converted into HOCH 2 OOH and consecutively into HCOOH. Sepsis is a deadly complication raised by bacterial pathogens-induced dysregulated innate inflammatory response. Thus, anti-inflammatory is a potential therapeutic treatment for septic patients. Numerous evidence exhibited that berberine possesses potent anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidative activities. However, the effect of berberine on sepsis is not fully understood. The anti-inflammatory effect of berberine was evaluated using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced macrophages differentiation model in vitro and using LPS/D-galactosamine-challenged septic mice model in vivo. The secreted protein levels were determined by ELISA assay. The multiple targets mRNA and protein levels were measured by quantitative RT-PCR and western blot assay, respectively. Our study demonstrated that administration of berberine significantly attenuated lung tissue injury, and potently increased the survival rate of septic mice by modulating excessive inflammatory response with negligible side-effects. We further found that berberine inhibited the expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin-(IL)-1β and IL-6 via suppressing nuclear factor kappa B subunit 1 (NF-κB) signaling activation. Herein, we developed a multi-analyte fluorescence immunoassay for detection of three organophosphate pesticides (triazophos, parathion, and chlorpyrifos) in various agro-products (rice, wheat, cucumber, cabbage, and apple) using fluorescently labeled oligonucleotide and gold nanoparticle (AuNP) signal amplification technology. The AuNP probes for the three analytes were constructed by simultaneously modifying the corresponding antibodies and fluorescently labeled oligonucleotides on the probe surface. Three fluorophores (6-FAM, Cy3, and Texas red) with high fluorescence intensity and little overlap of excitation/emission wavelengths were selected. The method showed satisfactory linearity for triazophos, parathion, and chlorpyrifos in the ranges of 0.01-20, 0.05-50, and 0.5-1000 μg/L, respectively. For the 3 analytes, the limits of detection (LODs) were 0.007, 0.009, and 0.087 μg/L, respectively. The average recoveries were 77.7-113.6%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 7.1-17.1% in various food matrices. Schistosomes are the causative agent of schistosomiasis, which affects more than 200 million people worldwide. Unlike other trematode parasites, schistosomes (along with the Didymozoidae) have evolved separate sexes. Pairing of males and females is a prerequisite for female sexual development and subsequent egg production. However, the mechanisms underlying these processes remain poorly understood. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been shown to play important roles in many biological processes. In the present study, we characterized EVs isolated from adult male and female Schistosoma japonicum. Proteomic analyses of the isolated EVs revealed that some proteins are significantly enriched in male or female EVs. RNA-sequencing analysis of a small RNA population associated with EVs identified 18 miRNAs enriched in male and female S. japonicum EVs. Among these, miR-750 was specifically enriched in female EVs. Additionally, the inhibition of miR-750 by a miRNA inhibitor led to decreased egg production in female schistosomes cultured in vitro. Although the toxicity of triazophos is high and it has been pulled from the market in many countries; it is still widely used and frequently detected in agricultural products. While conventional analyses have been routinely used for the quantification and monitoring of triazophos residues, those for detecting low residual levels are deemed necessary. Therefore, we developed a novel and sensitive fluorometric signal amplification immunoassay employing bio-barcodes for the quantitative analysis of triazophos residues in foodstuffs and surface water. Herein, monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) attached to gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were coated with DNA oligonucleotides (used as a signal generator), and a complementary fluorogenic RNA was used for signal amplification. The system generated detection signals through DNA-RNA hybridization and subsequent dissociation of fluorophores by Ribonuclease H (RNase H). It has to be noted that RNase H can only disintegrate the RNA in DNA-RNA duplex, but not cleave single or double-stranded DNA. Hence, with iterative cycles of DNA-RNA hybridization, sufficient strong signal was obtained for reliable detection of residues. Furthermore, this method enables quantitative detection of triazophos residues through fluorescence intensity measurements. The competitive immunoassay shows a wide linear range of 0.01-100 ng/mL with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0032 ng/mL. The assay substantially meets the demand for the low residue detection of triazophos residues in agricultural products and water samples. Accuracy (expressed as spiked recovery %) and coefficient of variation (CV) were ranged from 73.4% to 116% and 7.04% to 17.4%, respectively. The proposed bio-barcodes immunoassay has the advantages of being stable, reproducible, and reliable for residue detection. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Daurian jackdaw ( Corvus dauuricus , Pallas, 1776) was sequenced and deposited to GeneBank for the first time using muscle tissue. This mitochondrial genome is a circular molecule of 16921 bp in length and sequence analysis showed it contains 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes and D&#95;loop. In the present study, a novel cocrystal of felodipine (FEL) and β-resorcylic acid (βRA) was developed. We specially focused on the change of binding pattern with bovine serum albumin (BSA) induced by cocrystallization of FEL with βRA. The solid characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) simulation verified that FEL-βRA cocrystal formed in equimolar ratio (1 : 1 M ratio) through C=O … H-O hydrogen bond between C=O group in FEL and O-H group in βRA. The binding interactions between FEL-βRA system and BSA were studied using fluorescence spectral and molecular docking methods. Two guest molecule systems, including a physical mixture of FEL and βRA and FEL-βRA cocrystal were performed binding to BSA in molecular docking. According to the K b and binding energy, the supramolecular form of FEL-βRA system was retained during binding to BSA. Molecular docking simulation suggested that FEL and its cocrystal inserted into the subdomain IIIA (site II') of BSA. The interactions between FEL and BSA including hydrogen bonding with ASN390 residue and intermolecular hydrophobic interactions with LEU429 and LEU452 residues. However, the size of supramolecular FEL-βRA better matched that of active cavity of BSA; the cocrystal is closely bound to BSA through hydrogen bonding with ASN390 residue and intermolecular hydrophobic interactions with LEU429, VAL432, LEU452 and ILE387 residues. This change on binding affinity of FEL to BSA induced by cocrystallization with βRA provided theoretical basis to evaluate the transportation, distribution and metabolism of cocrystal drug.

An ultrasensitive bio-barcode competitive immunoassay method based on droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) was developed for the determination of triazophos. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were coated with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and complementary double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), which included bio-barcode DNA and thiol-capped DNA. Magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) probes were constructed by modifying the MNPs with ovalbumin-hapten conjugates (OVA-hapten). The target pesticide and OVA-hapten on the surface of the MNP probes competed with the AuNP probes simultaneously, and then the bio-barcode DNA was released for quantification by ddPCR. The concentration of released DNA was inversely proportional to the concentration of pesticide to be tested. Under the optimum conditions, the competitive immunoassay exhibited a wide linear range of 0.01-20 ng/mL and a low detection limit of 0.002 ng/mL. Spike recovery tests were carried out using apple, rice, cabbage, and cucumber samples to verify the feasibility of the method. The recovery and relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the technique ranged from 76.9 to 94.4% and from 10.8 to 19.9%, respectively. To further validate the results, a linear correlation analysis was performed between the proposed method and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Consequently, the bio-barcode immunoassay based on nanoparticles and ddPCR, an ultrasensitive method, showed great potential for the determination of target pesticides in real samples.

Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices enabled visible light communication (VLC) for Internet of things (IoT) applications has attracted extensive attentions from both academic and industrial communities, thanks to the pervasive deployments of light emitting diode (LED) lighting infrastructure. However, due to the limitation of frequency response and non-linearity of the commercial illuminating LED light consisting of multiple LED chips, the achievable data rate is far less than that provided by the experimental VLC system with a single LED with specialized devices, e.g., lens. To this end, we propose a power-of-2 arrangement scheme for LED chips to generate spatial summing modulation with low control complexity, and demonstrate its availability in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) VLC system purely built upon COTS devices. It significantly differs from a conventional OFDM VLC system relying on digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and analog signal chain, which is complex and confined by LED's non-linearity, thanks to we design a novel digital-to-light converter (DLC) which can output 256 light intensities linearly and be directly controlled by the discrete digital signals generated by the OFDM modulator. An experimental demonstration with employing the QAM-OFDM modulation scheme successfully confirms the effectiveness of the proposed spatial summing VLC system, which can achieve low BERs of below the forward error correct (FEC) threshold of 3.8×10 -3 for both QAM8 and QAM16 running transmission frequency of 300 kHz under a communication distance of 0.8 m. It demonstrates the promising potential for delivering a data rate at hundred kbps level with this novel spatial summing based OFDM VLC system, which is sufficient for many IoT applications.

Flavor is one of the most important sensory characteristics of meat. The development of taste and aroma can be attributed to thousands of flavor molecules and precursors that are present in meat tissues. As a result, the identification of these flavor compounds and an improved understanding of their roles are necessary for improving the sensory quality and customer appeal of meat products. In the current study, we compared the metabolic profiles of meat specimens from the Lubei white goats (LBB), Boer goats (BE) and Jining grey goats (JNQ) by untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Our metabolomic data revealed that the three types of goat meat showed significantly different profiles of fatty acids, aldehydes, ketones, lactones, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics and drug residues, which could underpin the nuances of their flavors. Taken together, our results provided insights into the molecular basis for sensory variations between different goat meat products.

To address stormwater management, China initiated the construction of sponge cities (SPCs) in 2014. Sponge city construction in China has previously been evaluated using subjective expert methods. Based on China's SPC evaluation regulations, the evaluation criteria system was divided into 6 categories and 22 indicators. This study presents a multicriteria approach to evaluating SPC construction through multicriteria attributes value theory (MAVT). Coupled with the entropy method, this approach can reduce errors caused by individual methods. This work improved the evaluation method from a subjective to an objective method. Additionally, the sensitivity of an alternative to these criteria was conducted. The analysis reveals the inner relationship between the SPC alternative and the criteria. The city of Hebi, an actual SPC project, was selected as a case study. The findings indicate that the proposed approach is efficient and simple. It can help decision makers better understand SPC performance, and it is a pilot SPC evaluation method using relatively objective means. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a secure and private non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based visible light communication (VLC) system. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation is applied in the system and a two-level chaotic encryption scheme is further implemented, which can guarantee both the security of legitimate users against eavesdroppers and the privacy among all the legitimate users. An experimental demonstration with two legitimate users and one eavesdropper successfully verifies the feasibility of the proposed secure and private NOMA VLC system. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that simultaneous security and privacy improvement is considered for NOMA VLC systems.

Extracting precise target characteristics from microwave image is needed and calls for high-resolution microwave imaging radar systems. In this paper, a Ka-band ultra-wideband microwave photonic (MWP) imaging radar is developed and experimentally demonstrated. In the transmitter, continuous ultra-wideband linear frequency modulation (LFM) wave is generated based on optical frequency sextupling technique. In the receiver, a combination of optical frequency mixer with fiber delay lines and electric analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is capable of receiving target echoes and imaging targets with different distances. The maximum instantaneous bandwidth of the transmitted waveform is measured to be 10.02 GHz and corresponding range resolution is calibrated to be 1.68 cm. Out-field tests with demonstrator working at synthetic aperture radar (SAR) or inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) mode are carried out. Different targets such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), airliner and Leifeng pagoda are imaged. Based on corresponding high-resolution microwave images, quantitative information of the targets can be identified, which shows the great potential of the radar demonstrator for various remote sensing applications.

A simple and highly sensitive immunoassay based on a competitive binding and bio-barcode amplification was designed for detection of small molecules, triazophos. The gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were modified with monoclonal antibodies and 6-carboxyfluorescein labeled single-stranded thiol-oligonucleotides (6-FAM-SH-ssDNAs); the fluorescence of 6-FAM was quenched by AuNPs. Ovalbumin-linked haptens were coated on the bottom of microplate to compete with the triazophos in the sample for binding to the antibodies on the AuNP probes. The fluorescence intensity was inversely proportional to analyte concentration. Parameters of AuNP probes preparation and immune reaction were optimized. At the optimal conditions, the salting process was shortened to 1 h and 166 ± 9 ssDNAs were loaded onto a single AuNP. The competitive fluorescence bio-barcode immunoassay was performed on water, rice, cucumber, cabbage and apple samples. The linear range of the method was 0.01-20 μg L -1 and the limit of detection (LOD) was 6 ng L -1 . The recovery and relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 85.0 to 110.3% and 9.4-17.4%, respectively. Good correlations were obtained between the results of the developed method and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Recent advances in sediment source tracing or fingerprinting procedures have focussed primarily on the use of novel sediment properties that are either easier to measure or provide improved source discrimination, or on improved procedures for representing and estimating the uncertainty associated with the final source apportionment results. Spatial variability of source properties has long been recognised as a potential problem for the approach, but there have been few attempts to explore the nature and magnitude of such variability and its wider implications for source fingerprinting investigations. This contribution addresses this issue with particular reference to surficial sediment sources. It reports the results of an investigation aimed at documenting the magnitude and nature of the spatial variability of the geochemical properties of surface soils within a single 7 ha cultivated field and exploring the implications of the findings for sediment source fingerprinting procedures. Samples of surface soil were collected from 52 points located within the field. Particular attention is directed to the extent of the spatial variability of 53 geochemical properties of the surface soil which could potentially be used as fingerprints, the importance of the influence of soil redistribution rate on the properties of the surface soil, provision of guidelines for selecting sampling points and the degree of correlation between different soil properties and its implications for the numerical procedures employed in sediment source fingerprinting studies. A novel aspect of the study is that caesium-137 ( 137 Cs) measurements were used to provide information on the magnitude and spatial pattern of the soil redistribution rate within the field, so that the influence of soil redistribution rate in causing systematic spatial variability of fingerprint properties could be further explored., (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier Ltd. Crosstalk is the main challenge for active collision avoidance LIDAR. Conventional strategy on static discrimination threshold and unified number of accumulated pulses is not valid against crosstalk with varying number of sources and varying intensity. This paper presents an adaptive strategy to distinguish the target echo from dynamic crosstalk with unknown intensity in the scenario of intelligent vehicles and autonomous ground vehicles. The adaptive strategy is theoretically and experimentally verified to have much better performance on dynamic crosstalk than conventional strategy, and the detection rate is enhanced by 82.4% as well.

The Miyun Reservoir is Beijing's main drinking water source. Increased nutrient levels in the reservoir have resulted in an increased risk of harmful algal blooms. One hundred ten water samples were collected at a range of spatial scales in the upper catchment of the Miyun Reservoir and were analyzed for total nitrogen (TN), nitrate (NO3 (-)-N), ammonium (NH4 (+)-N), total phosphorus (TP), and the potassium permanganate index (CODMn). Empirical equations were developed from relationships between nutrient concentrations and the main controls on nutrient, and were used to identify parts of the catchment that should be targeted with nutrient load reduction measures. Cropland was the main source of sediment for the streams, and much of the phosphorus was associated with sediment. The annual mean TP concentrations were closely correlated with both the annual mean suspended sediment concentrations and the ratio of the cropland area to the total basin area. There was a linear relationship between the annual mean TN concentration and the population density in the basins. Soil conservation may play an important role in reducing TP concentrations in the upper reaches of the Chao and Bai Rivers. It may be useful to (1) construct natural riparian buffers and vegetated buffers along croplands close to the watercourses, (2) implement management strategies to reduce nitrogen (N) fertilizer applications, and (3) construct additional wetlands to reduce nutrient loads in the study area.

This paper examined a case study of hydrological model for identifying parameter uncertainty by using three sensitivity analysis methods: HSY algorithm, linear regressional method and coupling analysis method. The results showed that optimal algorithms cannot give a sound explanation for complexity of model structure and identifying model parameters via uncertainty analysis methods presented an effective alternative to understand model system.

Parameters identification is achieved through the minimization of objective function based on model outputs and the observed data. Because of ever increasing complexity of environmental-models, there are significant difficulty for conventional optimal methods to present a global optimization. On the contrast, however, direct optimization algorithms are widely developed in recent years due to increasing computer efficiency and show promising applications. Four direct optimal algorithms, i.e. CRS algorithm, SCE UA algorithm, SA algorithm and Annealing-Simplex algorithm, were thus selected in this paper to compare their performances via case studies.
