Development of new products or services requires knowledge and understanding of aesthetic qualities that correlate to perceptual pleasure. As it is not practical to develop a survey to assess aesthetic quality for all objective features of a new product or service, it is necessary to develop a model to predict aesthetic qualities. In this paper, a fuzzy regression method is proposed to predict aesthetic quality from a given set of objective features and to account for uncertainty in human assessment. The proposed method overcomes the shortcoming of statistical regression, which can predict only quality magnitudes but cannot predict quality uncertainty. The proposed method also attempts to improve traditional fuzzy regressions, which simulate a single characteristic with which the estimated uncertainty can only increase with the increasing magnitudes of objective features. The proposed fuzzy regression method uses genetic programming to develop nonlinear structures of the models, and model coefficients are determined by optimizing the fuzzy criteria. Hence, the developed model can be used to fit the nonlinearities of sample magnitudes and uncertainties. The effectiveness and the performance of the proposed method are evaluated by the case study of perceptual images, which are involved with different sampling natures and with different amounts of samples. This case study attempts to address different characteristics of human assessments. The outcomes demonstrate that more robust models can be developed by the proposed fuzzy regression method compared with the recently developed fuzzy regression methods, when the model characteristics and fuzzy criteria are taken into account. Functionally similar non-coding RNAs are expected to be similar in certain regions of their secondary structures. These similar regions are called common structure motifs, and are structurally conserved throughout evolution to maintain their functional roles. Common structure motif identification is one of the critical tasks in RNA secondary structure analysis. Nevertheless, current approaches suffer several limitations, and/or do not scale with both structure size and the number of input secondary structures. In this work, we present a method to transform the conserved base pair stems into transaction items and apply frequent itemset mining to identify common structure motifs existing in a majority of input structures. Our experimental results on telomerase and ribosomal RNA secondary structures report frequent stem patterns that are of biological significance. Forecasting accuracy is an important issue for successful intelligent traffic management, especially in the domain of traffic efficiency and congestion reduction. The dawning of the big data era brings opportunities to greatly improve prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel model, stacked autoencoder Levenberg-Marquardt model, which is a type of deep architecture of neural network approach aiming to improve forecasting accuracy. The proposed model is designed using the Taguchi method to develop an optimized structure and to learn traffic flow features through layer-by-layer feature granulation with a greedy layerwise unsupervised learning algorithm. It is applied to real-world data collected from the M6 freeway in the U.K. and is compared with three existing traffic predictors. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that an optimized structure of the traffic flow forecasting model with a deep learning approach is presented. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed model with an optimized structure has superior performance in traffic flow forecasting.

Accelerating availability of protein sequences and structures has transformed both the theory and practice of computational biology. The current systems of nomenclature for proteins remain divergent even when the experts appreciate the underlying similarities. Interoperability of protein databases is limited to lack of progress in the way the biologists describe and conceptualize the shared biological elements in protein data. The goal of the proposed protein ontology is a step forward to address these concerns by is producing a structured vocabulary that can be applied to all proteins even as the knowledge of protein roles in the cells is still accumulating and changing. A Database of 10 Major Prion Proteins available in various Protein data sources, based on the vocabulary provided by Protein Ontology is made available.
