Abstract

The purpose of the presented article is to develop some new global regularity criteria for a magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) fluid flowing in a saturated porous medium. The effect of the porous medium, over the fluid flow, is characterized by a Darcy–Forchheimer law. The fluid, under study, is considered as one-dimensional and flowing in the x– direction with velocity component u. In addition, such a component is assumed to vary with the y– direction, i.e. u (y). Then, given the vorticity function w = - ∂ u ∂ y , such that ‖ w ‖ BMO 2 is sufficiently small, we develop the regularity criteria under the scope of the L 2 space. We extend our results to the spaces Ls , where s > 2. Afterward, we prove the Liouville-type theorem for the MHD Darcy–Forchheimer flow equation. Eventually, we obtain some characterization about the asymptotic behaviour of solutions, particularly, the nonuniform convergence in L 2 for t → ∞. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Hyperuricemia refers to elevated serum uric acid concentration above the upper limit of normal. Objective: To determine hyperuricemia in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke to the Neurology ward of Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar. Methods: A total of 153 patients were observed to the frequency of hyperuricemia in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke. Study design was cross sectional study which was conducted for the period of 6 months. The total Sample size was calculated by using WHO sample size calculator. It was calculated using the World Health Organization software. Results: A total of 153 patients were observed to the frequency of hyperuricemia in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke. Mean age of study participants was 52.45±1.14 years. Distribution of hyperuricemia was 114(74.5%). Mean serum uric acid level among cases of acute ischemic stroke was 06.15 ± 01.91 mg/dl while the mean serum uric acid level among control group was 05.1 ± 01.4 mg/dl. The results were highly significant p-value < 0.0001. Conclusions: Serum uric acid levels can be used to predict stroke risk. Moreover, serum uric acid can be utilized to stratify risk following a stroke. Long-term prospective research is needed to determine the involvement of serum uric acid in ischemic stroke. A trial of serum uric acid reducing medications in stroke patients as well as those at high risk of stroke may also be worthwhile.

81. Evaluating the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Daily Market Return in Pakistan Stock Exchange

Abstract

The capital markets are highly interconnected in the modern economic system, and it is one of the most vulnerable sectors to any financial and natural disaster occurring around the globe. The COVID-19 pandemic not only affects the capital market of the host nation but also creates problems in other parts of the world’s capital markets as well. The main objective of this event study is to empirically analyze the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the daily stock market returns in Pakistan, which is a fast-growing and emerging market in South Asia. For this, we used secondary data to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 in different dimensions i.e., total cases, new cases, total deaths, new deaths, and the positive rate on the daily stock returns of 531 listed companies in the Pakistan stock exchange over the period of March 2020 to November 2021. For stationarity of the variables, we applied an augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test. The results of the study obtained through ARCH family regression estimation revealed that the total number of cases, new cases, and the positive rate are negatively affecting the stock market returns in Pakistan while the total deaths and new deaths are positively affecting the stock market returns during the pandemic.

82. Chemical fingerprinting of NepetaL. species and antioxidant analysis of their leaves extract

Abstract

The genus NepetaL. is a member of the family Lamiaceae, commonly known as catmints or catnips. NepetaL. has been used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of diseases. Additionally, it is sometimes used in herbal tea for its calming effects. Chemical fingerprinting of Nepetaspecies can help in determining the specific chemical constituents present in different species or varieties, and it can be useful for authentication, quality control, and phytochemical studies. This study provides comprehensive insights into the chemical composition of four Nepetaspecies including Nepeta erecta(Royle ex Benth.) Benth., Nepeta laevigata(D. Don) Hand.-Mazz., Nepeta nervosaRoyle ex Benth. and Nepeta praetervisaRech. f. using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The quantitative examination of phytochemicals such as phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, and carbohydrates was done using different methods. The antioxidant activity of Nepetaspecies (methanolic extracts) was evaluated using free radical scavenging (FRSC) assay, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and ferric reducing the ability of plasma (FRAP) assay. A total of 42 compounds belonging to different classes of natural products were identified in all species. All species exhibit high antioxidant activity. These findings contribute to understanding Nepetaspecies as a valuable source of natural products with potential therapeutic applications. Further investigations are warranted to explore their full pharmacological potential and develop novel drug candidates.

Abstract

Pakchoi (Brassica campestris ssp. Chinensis) is a leafy vegetable which has been widely cultivated and consumed worldwide due to its low calorific value, a large supply of macro and micronutrients, beneficial phytochemicals and fibers. Amino acids have a vital role in plant nutrition; however, the effect of glycine and nitrate (Gly/NO3-N) on health-promoting phytochemicals, biomass, and antioxidant activities has gained a little attention. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of glycine and nitrate on health-promoting phytochemicals and yield/biomass of pakchoi. Glycine and nitrate were employed in different proportions (control, Gly/NO3-N = 3:1, Gly/NO3-N = 1:1, and Gly/NO3-N = 1:3 in the Venlo greenhouse, Shanghai Jiao Tong university, China. Results showed that compared to control, the treatment with Gly/NO3-N notably increased the secondary metabolites like polyphenols, flavonoids, glutathione (GSH), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), antioxidant potential (FRAP and DPPH value), and biomass in pakchoi plants. The contents of all antioxidants were high under the treatment of Gly/NO3-N（1:1). Interestingly, the contents of flavonoids were significantly enhanced (107.10%) by Gly/NO3-N = 1:1 than control plants. Furthermore, the content of Phe increased by 33.79%-86.32%, and also the activity of catabolic enzymes (CHI, CHS, C4H, and PAL) of the polyphenols pathway was found to be significantly enhanced while the activity of 4CL and DFR was restrained by the treatment of Gly/NO3-N, compared with control plants. In addition, the correlation analysis of polyphenols and flavonoids with Phe, PAL, C4H, CHS, and CHI showed a positive correlation, while a negative correlation was found in the case of 4CL and DFR. Taken together, the current findings suggest that the application of Gly/NO3-N enhanced polyphenols metabolism as well as increased the total polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity. Consequently, this combination of glycine and nitrate could be used to promote beneficial phytochemicals and yield/biomass of pakchoi. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
