Abstract

Two D-A copolymers consisting of fused ring pyrrolo-dithieno-quinoxaline acceptors are synthesized with different donor units, i.e., benzodithiophene (BDT) with alkylthienyl (P134) and 2-ethylhexyloxy (P117) side chains. These copolymers are used as donors and a narrow bandgap acceptor Y6 to fabricate bulk heterojunction polymer solar cell devices. Owing to the strong electron-deficient fused ring pyrrolo-bithieno-quinoxaline and weak alkyl thienyl side chains in BDT, the polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on P134:Y6 attain the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.42%, which is higher than the P117:Y6 counterpart (12.14%). The superior value of PCE for P134:Y6 can be associated with more well-adjusted charge transport, weak charge recombination, proficient exciton generation, and dissociation into free charge carriers and their subsequent charge collection owing to the dense π-π stacking distance and more considerable crystal coherence length for the P134:Y6 thin films. This investigation confirms the great potential of a strong acceptor-weak donor tactic for developing efficient D-A copolymers consists of quinoxaline acceptor for PSCs.

Abstract

Currently, lightweight and high-strength polymer composites can provide weight savings in the automotive and process equipment industries by replacing metal parts. Polytetrafluoroethylene and polymer composites based on it are used in various tribological applications due to their excellent antifriction properties and thermal stability. This article examines the effect of combined fillers (carbon fibers and zeolite) on the mechanical, tribological properties, and structure of polytetrafluoroethylene. It is shown that the introduction of combined fillers into polytetrafluoroethylene retains the tensile strength and elongation at break at a content of 1–5 wt.% of carbon fibers, the compressive stress increased by 53%, and the yield stress increased by 45% relative to the initial polymer. The wear resistance of polymer composites increased 810-fold compared to the initial polytetrafluoroethylene while maintaining a low coefficient of friction. The structural features of polymer composites are characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy.

The measurements are fully corrected for detector effects, and reported differentially in both the jet transverse momentum and jet radius parameter. We compare the measurements to established leading-order Monte Carlo event generators and find that STAR-tuned pythia-6 reproduces the data, while LHC tunes of pythia-8 and herwig-7 do not agree with the data, providing further constraints on parameter tuning. Finally, we observe that softdrop grooming, for which the contribution of wide-angle nonperturbative radiation is suppressed, shifts the jet mass distributions into closer agreement with the partonic jet mass as determined by both pythia-8 and a next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy perturbative QCD calculation. These measurements complement recent LHC measurements in a different kinematic region, as well as establish a baseline for future jet mass measurements in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC.

Abstract

Data on the use in the continuous casting machines at PAO MMK of slag-forming mixtures (SFMs) manufactured by OOO Shlakservits to replace SFMs brought from afar including those imported from abroad are presented. In 2018–2019, SFMS of eight types intended for slab and billet continuous castings machines were tested. All SFMs tested ensure the stable and failure-free continuous casting of steel producing high-quality cast billets and finished rolled products. The mixtures tested have been favorably appraised by the research-engineering center of PAO MMK. The manufacturing of slag-forming mixtures on the territory of Russia, in particular at PAO MMK, ensures the formation of prices competitive with those of all domestic and foreign suppliers. The modern production development of slag-forming mixtures for steelmaking plants of PAO MMK based on OOO Shlakservis, a subsidiary of the former, is considered.

Abstract

Graphite is widely used in the atomic industry and nuclear power engineering. In the next 10–15 years, the resource of most blocks in the uranium–graphite reactors in Russia will be exhausted with allowance for the elongation of the service life, as follows from the results of repair-and-renewal operations. High-activity graphite can be processed by flameless oxidation in molten salts. The purpose of this work is to study the behavior of radionuclides during the flameless oxidation of radioactive graphite in the CuO–NaCl–KCl–Na2CO3–K2CO3 melt in water vapor using a thermodynamic simulation and the Terra software package. A thermodynamic simulation is an effective and unique method used to investigate diverse high-temperature processes of thermal decomposition, reduction, and synthesis. The calculation is performed using a reference datable of the properties of individual substances. Graphite burns up at 573 K. The condensed compounds of cesium, chlorine, and uranium evaporate at 1673 K. An increase in the temperature to 1973 K leads to the vapor pressure of the condensed compounds of beryllium, calcium, and strontium. The condensed oxide of europium(III) and the condensed oxide of plutonium(IV) transform into a vapor state at 2173 K. The condensed oxide of nickel transforms into a vapor state at 2473 K. A further increase in the temperature to 2773 K leads to the transformation of the condensed oxide of americium(III) into a vapor state. Only a vapor–gas phase is present in the isolated system in the temperature range from 2773 to 3273 K.

Abstract

The mechanical properties of the base metal and the welded joints are estimated during tension, impact bending, drop weight tearing, static bending, flattening tests, and the Vickers hardness and the residual tangential stresses in them are determined for the longitudinal welded pipes 219–1020 mm in diameter and 8–12 mm in wall thickness manufactured by the AO Vyksunskii Metallurgical Plant. The hardness distribution over the pipe perimeter and the cross section is uniform and the cracking resistance of the pipes at negative temperatures up to –60°C is high. Local heat treatment of the welded seam and high-temperature tempering of the entire pipe ensure a high strength and high cold resistance of the pipes. The longitudinal pipes subjected to local and bulk heat treatment can be used like seamless pipes and as piles for the bases of buildings and structures erected in the cryolithic zone.

65. Estimation of neutral fluxes on the first mirror of H-alpha diagnostics in ITER

Abstract

The first mirrors of all optical diagnostics in ITER will be exposed to the fluxes of neutrals, mainly D, T and Be. This can lead to formation of erosion and deposition zones on the mirror surface. In this work, the fluxes of neutral D, T and Be on the first mirror of H-alpha diagnostics in the equatorial ports were analyzed with Zemax OpticStudio software. Only stationary modes of ITER were considered. The geometry of viewing cutouts in diagnostic shielding modules (DSM) and the model of the first mirror units (FMU) were taken from the ENOVIA database. It is shown that the net erosion is dominating in major part of the first mirror zone with erosion rate ≈100 nm/year. The net deposition zone is located on the edges of the mirror, where deposition rate reaches up to 900 nm/year. Being made of single crystal molybdenum, the mirrors will keep their optical properties under erosion over the whole ITER lifetime. The contaminated edges are not important for the light collection and imaging of the SOL emission in the areas of interest at the ITER first wall within the selected field-of-view. The DC plasma discharge mirror cleaning system will be used to recover FM performance in case of eventual contamination.

Abstract

H-alpha and Visible Spectroscopy is one of the ITER first-plasma diagnostics providing full poloidal coverage of plasma scrape-off layer near the first wall. There are two poloidal-view channels in Equatorial Port Plug 11 (EPP11), one tangential-view channel in Equatorial Port Plug 12 (EPP12), and one divertor-view channel in Upper Port Plug 02 (UPP02). At the moment, the final design phase is ongoing, requiring proper testing of design solutions to identify the realistic optical parameters and the problems related to the manufacturing, alignment, calibration and stability issues. A full-scale mockup of the whole optical chain has been built for this purpose. It comprises the most important units starting from the in-vessel optical front-end (First Mirror Unit) to the Interspace relay optics (Long-Focus Spectral Telescope), and to the Optical Bench Assembly located in the Port Cell, where the collected light is coupled to the imaging cameras and to the complex optical fiber bundle transmitting it to the various detectors and spectrometers to be located in the ITER Diagnostic Building. The detailed optical design, analyses, benchmarking and test results are reported with a main focus on the alignment/calibration issues, and on the spatial resolution measured. The measurements have been performed in the wide spectral range 450–700 nm, which is required for the monitoring of the H-alpha, Beryllium and other impurity emission line profiles with probable local peaks considered as the most important ITER safety-relevant task for the passive visible spectroscopy diagnostics.

Abstract

Single crystal Molybdenum is one of the most promising materials for the First Mirror (FM) of ITER optical diagnostics due to its high resistance to erosion under neutral atom bombardment. Other advantages are: low CTE, high thermal conductivity, and advantageous mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. The FMs are normally located in the front-end of ITER port plugs, being subject to volumetric heat loads up to ∼1 W/cm3 and higher. Active cooling of Mo mirrors by water or gas flow has limited applicability due to remote handling, integration and risk requirements. An athermal design with radiative cooling was developed for the H-alpha FM unit (FMU) with an all-Mo/TZM structure comprising a TZM housing, two Mo mirrors and the TZM cleaning electrodes. The main idea is to minimize mirror angular displacements and to keep the alignment at temperatures up to ∼350 °C. That requires a balance between thermal contact and radiative heat sinks. The most uniform temperature profile is obtained by weak thermal contact between FMU and support structure, but that leads to the highest FM temperature, since the normal as-milled Mo surface has a very low effective emissivity (e

Abstract

Detection of antineutrino by the reaction of the inverse β-decay can be used for an independent monitoring of a nuclear reactor power. DANSS detector is located directly under a commercial WWER-1000 reactor and counts up to 5000 antineutrino per day, providing the accuracy of 1.5% in 2 days of the flux measurement. A powerful system of the passive and active shielding in combination with the fine spatial segmentation of the detector allows to diminish the contribution of the background processes to a level, negligible in comparison to the statistical error. The influence of the nuclear fuel composition on the neutrino flux can be accounted for based on the input from the NPP staff.

Abstract

A theory of acoustic spin pumping in a bulk acoustic wave resonator with a ZnO-YIG-GGG-YIG/Pt structure is presented, with allowance for the exchange contribution to the formation of a coupled magnetoelastic wave spectrum, and the back action of acoustically excited magnetic dynamics in YIG films on the elastic subsystem in all layers. Good agreement is achieved between the theoretical and experimental frequency–field dependences of the resonant frequencies of the resonator and the voltage magnitude of the inverse spin Hall effect in Pt.

Abstract

Recently, there has been an increase of interest in creating new neural network hydroacoustics algorithms, for example, test sites in the Arctic are being created to evaluate the effectiveness of target detection and to ensure the safety of the Canadian North. The open architecture allows you to adapt hardware to new threats or economic interests. Not only the equipment of radiation and reception of hydroacoustic systems is improved, but also their processing. The article discusses the ways of improvement and the principles of building specialized computers based on the GRIFON hardware platform, providing control and signal processing in mobile and stationary sonar systems. We consider an example of creating a complex that demonstrates the capabilities of the equipment and the prospects for creating calculators with high parameters and minimal mass‑dimensional characteristics. Described in detail the structure and principles of the mathematical software of specialized computer. Comparative characteristics of the proposed algorithms that can be used to optimize signal processing paths and the volume of digital equipment are given.

Abstract

Background. Anthropogenic human activity contributes to the inclusion of zinc compounds in the biological cycle in areas where there is pollution with this metal. This leads to the accumulation of the substance in organs and tissues, which can have a neurotoxic effect on the body. Aim. To evaluate the toxic effect of zinc succinate on the structure and function of the cerebral cortex of laboratory rats. Materials and methods. The study was performed on 12 Wistar male rats aged 2 months. The animals were divided into 2 groups: control and experimental, 6 rats each. Within 30 days, the animals of the experimental group were intragastrically injected with a solution containing zinc succinate in a dose of 100 mg/kg. The rats from group 1 served as intact controls. Fluorescent analysis of coenzyme activity of the brain was performed, for which excitation was used at wavelengths of 365 nm and 450 nm, which corresponds to the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD); morphological analysis of the motor cortex of the cerebral hemispheres.Results. Analysis of fluorescence spectra demonstrated a statistically significant decrease in its intensity in the experimental group for the coenzyme NADH (0.855 [0.092]) compared with the control (0.709 [0.062]); p

Особенность данной структуры – возможность непрерывной регулировки ослабления благодаря использованию в качестве переменных импедансов сопротивления канала полевых транзисторов. Abstract

The behavior of Cl, Ca, Be, Ni, and Cs radionuclides in the course of heating of radioactive graphite in steam was studied by thermodynamic modeling. Complete thermodynamic analysis at temperatures in the interval from 373 to 3273 K was performed using the TERRA program with the aim of determining the possible composition of the gas phase. The modeling shows that chlorine occurs in the form of gaseous HCl in the temperature interval from 873 to 1973 K and in the form of gaseous HCl and Cl at temperatures from 1973 to 3273 K. Calcium in the temperature range from 1973 to 3273 K occurs in the form of gaseous Ca(OH)2, Ca, and CaOH and ionized CaOH+ and Ca+. Beryllium in the temperature interval from 1873 to 3273 K occurs in the form of gaseous Be(OH)2, BeOH, Be, and BeOH. Nickel at temperatures from 1673 to 2173 K occurs in the form of gaseous NiH, Ni(OH)2, NiOH, and Ni, and at temperatures from 2173 to 3273 K, in the form of gaseous NiH, NiOH, and Ni. Cesium at temperatures from 973 to 1473 K occurs in the form of gaseous CsCl and CsOH and of ionized Cs+, and at temperatures from 1473 to 3273 K, in the form of ionized Cs+. The main reactions within separate phases and between the condensed and gas phases were determined, and their equilibrium constants were calculated.

Abstract

We present the first measurement of the proton–Ω correlation function in heavy-ion collisions for the central (0–40%) and peripheral (40–80%) Au + Au collisions at s NN = 200 GeV by the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). Predictions for the ratio of peripheral collisions to central collisions for the proton–Ω correlation function are sensitive to the presence of a nucleon–Ω bound state. These predictions are based on the proton–Ω interaction extracted from ( 2 + 1 ) -flavor lattice QCD calculations at the physical point. The measured ratio of the proton–Ω correlation function between the peripheral (small system) and central (large system) collisions is less than unity for relative momentum smaller than 40 MeV/c. Comparison of our measured correlation ratio with theoretical calculation slightly favors a proton–Ω bound system with a binding energy of ∼ 27 MeV.

The Cn and κn are presented as a function of collision energy, centrality and kinematic acceptance in rapidity, y, and transverse momentum, pT. The data were taken during the first phase of the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program (2010-2017) at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) facility. Transverse momentum (pT) dependence of flow coefficients (v2, v3, and v4) is presented for minimum bias collisions and three different centrality intervals. Number of constituent quark scaling of the measured flow coefficients in U+U collisions is discussed. We also present the ratio of vn scaled by the participant eccentricity (ɛn2) to explore system size dependence and collectivity in U+U collisions. The magnitude of v2/ɛ2 is found to be smaller in U+U collisions than that in central Au+Au collisions contradicting naive eccentricity scaling. Furthermore, the ratios between various flow harmonics (v3/v23/2, v4/v24/2) are studied and compared with hydrodynamic and transport model calculations.

The results at the two different energies show a continuous increase of the TSSA with Feynman-x, and, when compared to previous measurements, no dependence on s from 19.4 GeV to 500 GeV is found. To investigate the underlying physics leading to this large TSSA, different topologies have been studied. π0 with no nearby particles tend to have a higher TSSA than inclusive π0. The TSSA for inclusive electromagnetic jets, sensitive to the Sivers effect in the initial state, is substantially smaller, but shows the same behavior as the inclusive π0 asymmetry as a function of Feynman-x. To investigate final-state effects, the Collins asymmetry of π0 inside electromagnetic jets has been measured. The Collins asymmetry is analyzed for its dependence on the π0 momentum transverse to the jet thrust axis and its dependence on the fraction of jet energy carried by the π0. The asymmetry was found to be small in each case for both center-of-mass energies. All the measurements are compared to QCD-based theoretical calculations for transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions and fragmentation functions. Some discrepancies are found, which indicates new mechanisms might be involved.

The new inclusive jet data are sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution, Δg(x,Q2), for gluon momentum fractions in the range from x≃0.05 to x≃0.5, while the new dijet data provide further constraints on the x dependence of Δg(x,Q2). The results are in good agreement with previous measurements at s=200 GeV and with recent theoretical evaluations of prior world data. Our new results have better precision and thus strengthen the evidence that Δg(x,Q2) is positive for xg0.05.

Abstract

Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurements of the Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, is measured to be ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of Ω, ⟨P_{Ω}⟩=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor C_{ΩΛ}=1.

Neutral pions are observed in the forward direction relative to the transversely polarized proton beam, in the pseudorapidity region 2.7lηl3.8. Results are presented for π0s observed in the STAR forward meson spectrometer electromagnetic calorimeter in narrow Feynman x (xF) and transverse momentum (pT) bins, spanning the range 0.172.5 GeV/c. It is further observed that the value of AN is significantly larger for events with a large-pT isolated π0 than for events with a nonisolated π0 accompanied by additional jetlike fragments. The nuclear dependence r(A) is similar for isolated and nonisolated π0 events.

Abstract

The beam energy scan (BES) program at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) was extended to energies below sNN=7.7 GeV in 2015 by successful implementation of the fixed-target mode of operation in the STAR (Solenoidal Tracker At RHIC) experiment. In this mode, ions circulate in one ring of the collider and interact with a stationary target at the entrance of the STAR time projection chamber. The first results for Au+Au collisions at sNN=4.5 GeV are presented, demonstrating good performance of all the relevant detector subsystems in fixed-target mode. Results presented here include directed and elliptic flow of identified hadrons, and radii from pion femtoscopy. The latter, together with recent HADES results, reveal a long-sought peak structure that may be caused by the system evolving through a first-order phase transition from quark-gluon plasma to the hadronic phase. Directed and elliptic flow for pions are presented for the first time at this beam energy. Pion and proton elliptic flow show behavior which hints at constituent quark scaling, and demonstrate that a definitive conclusion will be achievable using the full statistics of the ongoing second phase of BES (BES-II). In particular, BES-II to date has recorded fixed-target data sets with two orders of magnitude more events at each of nine energies between sNN=3.0 and 7.7 GeV.

The cross sections and their ratios are sensitive to quark and antiquark parton distribution functions. In particular, at leading order, the W cross section ratio is sensitive to the d¯/ū ratio. These measurements were taken at high Q2∼MW2,MZ2 and can serve as input into global analyses to provide constraints on the sea quark distributions. The results presented here combine three STAR datasets from 2011, 2012, and 2013, accumulating an integrated luminosity of 350 pb-1. We also assess the expected impact that our W+/W- cross section ratios will have on various quark distributions, and find sensitivity to the ū-d¯ and d¯/ū distributions.

The polarization parameters, λθ, λφ, and λθφ, are measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in both the helicity and Collins-Soper (CS) reference frames within pTl10 GeV/c. Except for λθ in the CS frame at the highest measured pT, all three polarization parameters are consistent with 0 in both reference frames without any strong pT dependence. Several model calculations are compared with data, and the one using the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory coupled with nonrelativistic QCD gives the best overall description of the experimental results, even though other models cannot be ruled out due to experimental uncertainties.

Abstract

The measurements of particle multiplicity distributions have generated considerable interest in understanding the fluctuations of conserved quantum numbers in the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) hadronization regime, in particular near a possible critical point and near the chemical freeze-out. Net-protons and net-kaons have been used as proxies for the net-baryon number and net-strangeness, respectively. We report the measurement of efficiency- and centrality-bin width-corrected cumulant ratios (C2/C1, C3/C2) of net-Λ distributions, in the context of both strangeness and baryon number conservation, as a function of collision energy, centrality, and rapidity. The results are for Au+Au collisions at five beam energies (sNN=19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV) recorded with the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR). We compare our results to the Poisson and negative binomial (NBD) expectations, as well as to ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) and hadron resonance gas (HRG) model predictions. Both NBD and Poisson baselines agree with data within the statistical and systematic uncertainties. UrQMD describes the measured net-ΛC1 and C3 at 200 GeV reasonably well but deviates from C2, and the deviation increases as a function of collision energy. The ratios of the measured cumulants show no features of critical fluctuations. The chemical freeze-out temperatures extracted from a recent HRG calculation, which was successfully used to describe the net-proton, net-kaon, and net-charge data, indicate Λ freeze-out conditions similar to those of kaons. However, large deviations are found when comparing with temperatures obtained from net-proton fluctuations. The net-Λ cumulants show a weak but finite dependence on the rapidity coverage in the acceptance of the detector, which can be attributed to quantum number conservation.

Each event is divided into three regions based on the azimuthal angle with respect to the highest-pT jet direction: In the leading jet direction ("Toward"), opposite to the leading jet ("Away"), and perpendicular to the leading jet ("Transverse"). Abstract

—In this paper, we present theoretical and experimental results on the excitation and detection of spin waves and spin currents in multifrequency bulk acoustic wave resonators containing iron–yttrium garnet (YIG) films in contact with the Pt film. Acoustically excited magnetic precession under the resonator conditions was established to produce spin pumping that also has a resonance character. A significant asymmetry in the frequency dependence of the voltage signal detected on the Pt film is revealed with respect to the frequency of the magnetoelastic resonance and is confirmed by theoretical calculations. Acoustic resonator spectroscopy in combination with the electric detection of magnetic dynamics using the inverse spin Hall effect is shown to be of interest for studying the dispersion of spin waves, as well as magnetic and magnetoelastic parameters of ferromagnetic films.
