Why have most Latin American countries – traditionally pro‐Atlantic and staunch defenders of non‐intervention – remained conspicuously neutral during the Ukraine War? We argue that in an increasingly bipolar context, fence‐sitting produces clear strategic gains through partner‐diversification and bargaining power. However, this strategy becomes riskier with polarisation and, at a certain point, these risks may upset benefits. We formalise this argument and examine the foreign policy trajectories of several Latin American countries in the context of the Ukraine War to illustrate how their room for diplomatic flexibility has shrunk with polarisation. Introduction: More personalized alignment techniques in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have recently been described particularly for the young and active patients. Performing the ideal tibial cut might be challenging with a conventional ancillary. Therefore the aims of this study were: (1) to describe specific tibial landmarks to optimize the tibial cut in TKA; (2) to compare the accuracy of the tibial cut with these landmarks compared to a conventional technique. Methods: This retrospective case–control study compared primary TKAs performed using a conventional technique with extramedullary guide associated with specific tibial landmarks. For each case, one control patient was matched based on body mass index (BMI), age, preoperative Hip Knee Ankle (HKA) angle, and Medial Proximal Tibial Angle (MPTA). All control patients were operated by the same surgeon and similar conventional technique but without landmarks. The MPTA target was to reproduce preoperative deformity with a 3° of varus limit. 34 TKA were included in each group. There was no preoperative difference between both groups. Mean age was 63 years old ± 8. Mean BMI was 32 kg/m2 ± 5. Mean HKA was 170.6° ± 2.5. Mean MPTA was 85.1° ± 2.3. The radiographic assessment was performed preoperatively and at 2 months: HKA, mechanical Medial Distal Femoral Angle (mMDFA), MPTA, tibial slope, restoration of the joint line-height. Results: The tibial landmarks corresponded to the line of insertion of the deep medial collateral ligament fibers extended to the capsular insertion above the Gerdy tubercle. The postoperative MPTA was significantly more varus (87.2° ± 1.6 in landmark group versus 88.3° ± 2.2; p = 0.027) and closer to preoperative bone deformity in landmark group (p = 0.002) with significantly less outliers than in the conventional group. There was no significant difference between both groups postoperatively for HKA (175.4° ± 2.3 versus 175.9° ± 2.5; p = 0.42); mMDFA (88.9° ± 2.3 versus 88.2° ± 2.1; p = 0.18); tibial slope (82.6° ± 1.9 versus 82.4° ± 2.6; p = 0.67), the restoration of the joint line-height (1.5 mm ± 2 versus 1.8 mm ± 2; p = 0.56). Conclusion: Specific tibial landmarks during TKA can be used to increase the accuracy of the tibial cut when using personalized alignment techniques in TKA. Level of evidence: IV. Drought poses a significant threat to global food security, particularly impacting crops like oil palm. Selecting genes for genome editing to enhance drought tolerance presents formidable challenges. To ensure that the target gene is chosen correctly and results in the desired character, a pilot study is necessary to determine the target gene for knockout. Two genes drought-related, AtBRL3 and AtOST2, were scrutinized in this context. Aligned with the Elaeis guineensis genome, their neighbouring proteins and gene ontology were analysed to identify potential targets for genome editing. AtBRL3, identified as BRL1 (XP_010913986.1) in E. guineensis, exhibited 58.48% identity and 100% coverage. It interacts with 12 nodes, including BIR1, BRI1, and AT2G20050, crucial for signalling pathways and cellular responses. Molecular function analysis revealed kinase activity. AtOST2 showed high similarity to plasma membrane ATPase/HA1 (XP_010913679.1) in E. guineensis, with 87.46% identity and 100% query cover. It correlated with 14 genes associated with ABA stimulus, stomatal movement, and hormone response. EgBRL1 and EgHA1, resembling AtBRL3 and AtOST2, respectively, emerge as promising targets for developing drought-tolerant oil palm cultivars through gene editing. Nonetheless, further validation through in vitro gRNA target selection and in vivo conversion of OST2/BRL3-containing plasmids in oil palm calluses is indispensable to demonstrate their efficacy in conferring novel drought resistance traits. Tissue engineering endeavors to create in vitro constructs that replicate the properties of native tissue, such as skeletal muscle. This study investigated the use of mechanical stimulation to promote myogenic differentiation and enhance the functionality of bioengineered tissues. Specifically, it aimed to facilitate the differentiation of myoblasts within a three-dimensional scaffold using a defined pattern of mechanical stimulation. C2C12 cells were cultured on a collagen-coated PCL microfilament scaffold and subjected to 24 h of uniaxial static strain using a biomechanical stimulation system. Two onset times of stimulation, 72 h and 120 h post-seeding, were evaluated. Cell proliferation, myogenic marker expression, and alterations in cell morphology and orientation were assessed. Results indicate that static strain on the scaffold promoted myoblast differentiation, evidenced by morphological and molecular changes. Notably, strain initiated at 72 h induced an early differentiation stage marked by MyoD expression, whereas stimulation beginning at 120 h led to a mid-stage differentiation characterized by the co-expression of MyoD and Myogenin, culminating in myotube formation. These results highlight the critical influence of myoblast maturity at the time of strain application on the differentiation outcome. Both participation and argumentation (OECD, 2022) are important keywords in educational contexts. While participation is seen as a crucial prerequisite for education and collaborative learning in general, argumentation as a discursive practice serves to convey and negotiate—also school-specific—knowledge. This paper explores repetition in argumentative events as a technique of establishing—or even hindering—participation in terms of alignment and affiliation. It can serve as a strategy for participation by signalling responsiveness and thematic coherence—and thus inclusion. At the same time, however, studies show that repetition can also signal contradiction and rejection—and thus exclusion. So far, we know little about how exactly these functional differences are produced—especially in younger children. Therefore, the paper explores how children use repetition as a resource for negotiating participation in argumentative events. Using authentic data in the form of observations and transcriptions of audio and video recordings from child-child-interactions of 15 Hebrew- and 31 German-speaking children aged 3–6 years, we identify oral argumentative events and investigate different forms of repetitions and their respective relevance for enabling participation. Our results show that, on the one hand, minimal and partial repetitions are used by the children in an inclusive way, creating closeness between the participants. On the other hand, children use complete repetitions more as an excluding technique, displaying misalignment and disaffiliation, in order to challenge and mock each other. The findings suggest that this line of research has significant potential to provide new insights into the formation of social relationships between peers, into the prevention or establishment of participation, which itself is a prerequisite for joint learning, as well as insights into the acquisition of argumentative competence. In recent years, Conversational Analysis (CA) has seen an increasing interest in longitudinal studies (Deppermann & Pekarek Doehler, 2021). The recurrent experience of interactional practices leads interactants to develop routines that may sediment into entrenched patterns over time (Dreyer, 2022). Longitudinal CA thus aims to track the emergence and sedimentation of interactional practices over time. In this contribution, we analyse interactional practices of participation in play-situations. Participation in joint activities is a universal form of human sociality (Goodwin & Goodwin, 2005). Here, we focus on how children perform their own agentive participant's work and how mothers support their children in doing so. Investigating a longitudinal data set of mother-child play-interactions at ages 1 and 5, we ask whether participation patterns emerge as early as in the first year and are sedimented in the fifth year, as well as whether the synchronisation of embodied action provides crucial resources for the achievement of active participation in joint activities. Purpose: To investigate the risk factors for varus progression after arthroscopic medial meniscal posterior root tear (MMPRT) repair and to compare the clinical outcomes between two groups: one with more varus progression and the other with less varus progression. Methods: Patients who underwent isolated arthroscopic repair of MMPRT between 2015 and 2020 were enroled, and 2‐year follow‐up data were collected. Participants were categorized into two groups based on preoperative values of the weight‐bearing line (WBL) ratio: group A with <5.9% increase and group B with ≥5.9% increase. Various factors, including demographic features and radiological findings, were analysed and compared between the two groups. Intra‐meniscal signal intensity, meniscal healing, medial meniscal extrusion (MME), and articular cartilage grade were assessed preoperatively and 1‐year postoperatively using coronal magnetic resonance imaging. Results: The final cohort consisted of 34 patients in group A and 46 in group B, with a mean age of 55.8 ± 11.2 and 59.8 ± 6.6 years, respectively. Preoperative WBL ratio and cartilage lesions in the medial compartment did not differ between the groups. Preoperative MME were significantly lower in group A than those in group B (2.6 ± 0.6 mm in group A and 3.5 ± 0.7 mm in group B, p < 0.05). Patient‐reported outcomes at the 2‐year follow‐up did not differ between the two groups (n. s.). In a logistic analysis, the odds ratio of MME was 2.1 (p < 0.05), and the cutoff value of MME was 3.02 mm. Conclusion: Preoperative MME is a risk factor for varus progression. This paper examines the importance of, and variations in, political alignment within African regimes. Political alignment is how leaders establish sufficient political support across elites: we posit that formal appointments are the primary way that leaders manipulate political coalitions in order to secure their collective authority and tenure. Appointments, individually and collectively, can take on multiple characteristics: they can create inclusive or exclusive coalitions, transactional or loyal support, volatile or stable elite networks. Appointment powers have greater salience since governments institutionalized and formalized in governance systems across democratic and autocratic states. Manipulating who holds and secures power at the subnational and national levels, rather than repressive control or state capacity, underpins the stability, security, and survival of modern African regimes. In recent years, the involvement of the compensation ability of the subtalar joint in lower extremity alignment has been reported. We previously showed that hindfoot alignment angle (HAA) is an indicator of compensation ability of the subtalar joint. The abnormal compensation ability of the subtalar joint was defined by the mobility of the subtalar joint, and evaluation of the mobility of the subtalar joint may help to further clarify the pathophysiology of abnormal compensation ability of the subtalar joint. This study was performed to evaluate the mobility of the subtalar joint and clarify the pathophysiology of abnormal compensation ability of the subtalar joint in the varus knee. Seventy-two knees of 72 patients aged ≥40 years with varus knee were included in this study. Preoperative radiographs were used for measurement of this study parameters. Based on our previous study, we defined HAA of ≥15.9°as abnormal compensation ability of the subtalar joint. The patients were divided into an abnormal group (A-group) and normal group (N-group). All measurement parameters were compared between the groups, and correlations between the HAA and each measurement parameter were analyzed. The weight-bearing hindfoot angle (WBHA) (p < 0.001) and non-weight-bearing hindfoot angle (non-WBHA) (p = 0.003), were significantly greater in the A-group than in the N-group. Conversely, the ratio of change in hindfoot alignment (p = 0.006), were significantly smaller in the A-group than in the N-group. The HAA was positively correlated with WBHA (r = 0.66) and non-WBHA (r = 0.43) and negatively correlated with the ratio of change in hindfoot alignment (r = −0.32). The pathophysiology of abnormal compensation ability of the subtalar joint in the varus knee is thought to involve a state of increased valgus of hindfoot alignment and an inability to move into normal hindfoot alignment. Over the past few decades, instrumentation and techniques for total knee arthroplasty have evolved from conventional manual tools to a wide range of technologies, including calibrated guides for accurate bone cuts and alignment, smart tools, dynamic intraoperative sensors for soft tissue balancing, patient-specific guides, computer navigation, and robotics. This review is intended to provide an overview of the latest advancements in total knee arthroplasty technology, address potential challenges and solutions related to the application of these technologies, and explore their limitations. Insertions and deletions constitute the second most important source of natural genomic variation. Insertions and deletions make up to 25% of genomic variants in humans and are involved in complex evolutionary processes including genomic rearrangements, adaptation, and speciation. Recent advances in long-read sequencing technologies allow detailed inference of insertions and deletion variation in species and populations. Yet, despite their importance, evolutionary studies have traditionally ignored or mishandled insertions and deletions due to a lack of comprehensive methodologies and statistical models of insertions and deletion dynamics. Here, we discuss methods for describing insertions and deletion variation and modeling insertions and deletions over evolutionary time. We provide practical advice for tackling insertions and deletions in genomic sequences and illustrate our discussion with examples of insertions and deletion-induced effects in human and other natural populations and their contribution to evolutionary processes. We outline promising directions for future developments in statistical methodologies that would allow researchers to analyze insertions and deletion variation and their effects in large genomic data sets and to incorporate insertions and deletions in evolutionary inference. AbstractA rank test for Latin square data is derived. Forms are given for when there are no ties, for when ties occur and mid-ranks are used, and for when ties occur in general. These adjustments are akin to those for the Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, and Durbin tests. Since substantial block effects may affect ranking, alignment is recommended. The ANOVA F test on the ranks, the rank transform test, is a competitor test. We designate this test, where the data are aligned before ranking, the FART test. The proposed test, implemented as a permutation test, is designated the permutation aligned RL test: the PARL. We also give an approximation to the sampling distribution using the χ2 distribution, and call this test the CARL. An indicative simulation study assuming the usual parametric model and testing the null hypothesis that the treatment parameter is zero shows that the CARL, PARL, FART, and the F test on the raw data all control their type I errors well and have comparable powers. A three‐dimensional (3D) microstructural volume is reconstructed from a stack of two‐dimensional sections which was obtained by serial sectioning coupled with electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) mapping of a 316L austenitic stainless steel. A new alignment algorithm named linear translation by minimising the indicator (LTMI) is proposed to reduce the translational misalignments between adjacent sections by referencing to coherent twin boundaries which are flat and lying on {111} planes. The angular difference between the measured orientation of a flat twin boundary and that of the {111} plane is used as an indicator of the accuracy of the alignment operations. This indicator is minimised through linear translations of the centroids of triangular facets, which constitute grain boundaries at a distance not restricted by the in‐plane step size of the EBSD maps. And hence the systematic trend in the translational misalignments can be effectively reduced. The LTMI alignment procedure proposed herein effectively corrects the misalignments remained by other methods on a 3D‐EBSD data prepared using serial sectioning methods. Individuals with neuromuscular pathologies are often prescribed an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) to improve their gait mechanics by decreasing pathological movements of the ankle and lower limb. AFOs can resist or assist excessive or absent muscular forces that lead to tripping, instability, and slow inefficient gait. However, selecting the appropriate AFO with mechanical characteristics, which limit pathological ankle motion in certain phases of the gait cycle while facilitating effective ankle movement during other phases, requires careful clinical decision-making. The aim of this study is to propose an explicit methodology for the adjustment of multi-function articulated AFOs in clinical settings. A secondary aim is to outline the evidence supporting this methodology and to identify gaps in the literature as potential areas for future research. An emerging class of AFO, the multi-function articulated AFO, offers features that permit more comprehensive, iterative, and reversible adjustments of AFO ankle alignment and resistance to ankle motion. However, no standard method exists for the application and optimization of these therapeutic devices in the clinical setting. Here we propose an evidence-guided methodology applicable to the adjustment of multi-function articulated AFOs in the clinical setting. Characteristic load-deflection curves are given to illustrate the idealized yet complex resistance-angle behavior of multi-function articulated AFOs. Research is cited to demonstrate how these mechanical characteristics can help mitigate specific pathologic ankle and knee kinematics and kinetics. Evidence is presented to support the effects of systematic adjustment of high resistance, alignable, articulated AFOs to address many typical pathomechanical patterns observed in individuals with neuromuscular disorders. The published evidence supporting most decision points of the algorithm is presented with identified gaps in the evidence. In addition, two hypothetical case examples are given to illustrate the application of the method in optimizing multi-function articulated AFOs for treating specific gait pathomechanics. This method is proposed as an evidence-guided systematic approach for the adjustment of multi-function articulated AFOs. It utilizes observed gait deviations mapped to specific changes in AFO alignment and resistance settings as a clinical tool in orthotic treatment for individuals with complex neuromuscular gait disorders. As the amount of biological data has increased, it has become difficult to process it effectively. This has brought the discipline of bioinformatics to the forefront and increased the need for the development of relevant tools. A sensitive data analysis process is required to make sense of this large amount of data produced by next generation sequencing technique. The most costly step in this process is the alignment step. One of the most effective techniques to reduce this cost is the use of a graphics processing unit. In this study, the performances of the CPU-based Burrows-Wheeler aligner and the GPU programming version BarraCUDA tools in the alignment step were compared in terms of alignment rates and computation times for different datasets. In the study, total runtime of these tools was also examined, as well as the runtime of the alignment sub-steps when using one or more GPUs. While there is a similarity in the alignment rates of the tools used in each data set, it has been observed that there is a significant time benefit in data of different sizes through GPU supported BarraCUDA. As a result, with the use of GPU in the alignment step, approximately 5 times acceleration was achieved in single-end data and approximately 9 times in paired-end data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rapid development of active safety systems in the automotive industry and research in autonomous driving requires reliable, high-precision sensors that provide rich information about the surrounding environment and the behaviour of other road users. In practice, there is always some non-zero mounting misalignment, i.e., angular inaccuracy in a sensor's mounting on a vehicle. It is essential to accurately estimate and compensate for this misalignment further programmatically (in software). In the case of radars, imprecise mounting may result in incorrect/inaccurate target information, problems with the tracking algorithm, or a decrease in the power reflected from the target. Sensor misalignment should be mitigated in two ways: through the correction of an inaccurate alignment angle via the estimated value of the misalignment angle or alerting other components of the system of potential sensor degradation if the misalignment is beyond the operational range. This work analyses misalignment's influences on radar sensors and other system components. In the mathematically proven example of a vertically misaligned radar, pedestrian detectability dropped to one-third of the maximum range. In addition, mathematically derived heading estimation errors demonstrate the impact on data association in data fusion. The simulation results presented show that the angle of misalignment exponentially increases the risk of false track splitting. Additionally, the paper presents a comprehensive review of radar alignment techniques, mostly found in the patent literature, and implements a baseline algorithm, along with suggested key performance indicators (KPIs) to facilitate comparisons for other researchers. Degenerative diseases of the lumbar spine decrease lumbar lordosis (LL). Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) at the L5-S1 disc space improves segmental lordosis, LL, and sagittal balance. This study investigated reciprocal changes in spinopelvic alignment after L5-S1 ALIF. A retrospective chart review identified patients who underwent L5-S1 ALIF with or without posterior fixation at a single institution (November 1, 2016 to October 1, 2021). Changes in pelvic tilt, sacral slope, proximal LL (L1-L4), distal LL (L4-S1), total LL (L1-S1), segmental lordosis, pelvic incidence–LL mismatch, thoracic kyphosis, cervical lordosis, and sagittal vertical axis were measured on preoperative and postoperative radiographs. Forty-eight patients were identified. Immediate postoperative radiographs were obtained at a mean (SD) of 17 (20) days after surgery; delayed radiographs were obtained 184 (82) days after surgery. After surgery, patients had significantly decreased pelvic tilt (15.71° [7.25°] vs. 17.52° [7.67°], P = 0.003) and proximal LL (11.86° [10.67°] vs. 16.03° [10.45°], P < 0.001) and increased sacral slope (39.49° [9.27°] vs. 36.31° [10.39°], P < 0.001), LL (55.35° [13.15°] vs. 51.63° [13.38°], P = 0.001), and distal LL (43.17° [9.33°] vs. 35.80° [8.02°], P < 0.001). Segmental lordosis increased significantly at L5-S1 and decreased significantly at L2-3, L3-4, and L4-5. Lordosis distribution index increased from 72.55 (19.53) to 81.38 (22.83) (P < 0.001). L5-S1 ALIF was associated with increased L5-S1 segmental lordosis accompanied by pelvic anteversion and a reciprocal decrease in proximal LL. These changes may represent a reversal of compensatory mechanisms, suggesting an overall relaxation of spinopelvic alignment after L5-S1 ALIF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Timing is an important interactional resource for coordinating mobile and digital interactions, and for signalling interest and involvement in an exchange. This article breaks new ground in exploring conversational rhythm as a 'disconnective' resource through which people suspend, or withdraw from, interactions as a way of asserting agency and autonomy. Focusing on mobile-messaging apps such as WhatsApp, it develops an innovative 'day-in-the-life' methodological approach for exploring how individuals manage multiple online and offline encounters through combining interviews, time-use diaries and messaging data. Interactional analysis of selected extracts involving British women in their 40s and 50s points to an emerging interactive practice of 'suspended alignment' which enables connection-building through alignment while simultaneously keeping interlocutors at a desired distance. Medical image registration has become pivotal in recent years with the integration of various imaging modalities like X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, and CT scans, enabling comprehensive analysis and diagnosis of biological structures. This paper provides a comprehensive review of registration techniques for medical images, with an in-depth focus on 2D-2D image registration methods. While 3D registration is briefly touched upon, the primary emphasis remains on 2D techniques and their applications. This review covers registration techniques for diverse modalities, including unimodal, multimodal, interpatient, and intra-patient. The paper explores the challenges encountered in medical image registration, including geometric distortion, differences in image properties, outliers, and optimization convergence, and discusses their impact on registration accuracy and reliability. Strategies for addressing these challenges are highlighted, emphasizing the need for continual innovation and refinement of techniques to enhance the accuracy and reliability of medical image registration systems. Subjective well-being (SWB) is a multidimensional construct with three components (i.e., life satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect) comprising the tripartite model. Yet, despite numerous studies in the field of SWB, the cross-cultural validity of the tripartite structure is still largely unknown. The present study evaluated competing models of SWB’s structure across 16 countries (N = 8860 undergraduate students; age range = 18–29 years; 63.6% female) and examined its measurement invariance using both exact and approximate approaches. The exploratory structural equation model (ESEM) of tripartite SWB that allowed small cross-loadings provided the best fit to the data in the majority of countries, and it demonstrated a high level of approximate invariance, which allows for a comparison of means across countries. A bifactor model with an omitted Positive Affect factor also fit well in all samples making the measurement of the general SWB possible; however, it was less robust for cross-cultural comparisons. The correlations between the three latent SWB factors were consistent across most countries, with a few meaningful exceptions. Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of leg alignment on long‐term clinical outcome after matrix‐associated autologous chondrocyte implantation (M‐ACI) and to define an individualized target range to optimize clinical outcome. Methods: The present study examined patients who underwent M‐ACI of the femoral condyle. The Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Magnetic Resonance Observation of Cartilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) were used to assess the results. Clinical outcomes were related to Patient Acceptable Symptomatic State (PASS). For intra‐ and interobserver reliability of mechanical tibiofemoral angle, mechanical medial proximal tibial angle and mechanical lateral distal femoral angle, we calculated intraclass correlation coefficients using a two‐way mixed model with absolute agreement. A regression model and receiver‐operating characteristics curve were used to identify an individual range of alignment where a favourable clinical outcome could be expected in the long term. Results: Additional osteotomy was performed in 50% of patients with similar clinical outcomes as physiologically aligned patients (p > 0.05). The curve‐fitting regression model identified a target range of −2.5° valgus to 4.5° varus for ideal postoperative alignment (R2 = 0.12, p = 0.01). Patients within this range were more likely to achieve PASS (70% vs. 27%, p = 0.001). In medially treated defects, a refined range of −2.5° valgus to 4° varus alignment was found (R2 = 0.15, p = 0.01). These patients were more likely to achieve PASS (67% vs. 30%, p = 0.01) and showed favourable postoperative KOOS and MOCART scores (p = 0.02). Patients with lateral defects were more likely to achieve PASS within a range of −2° valgus and 0.5° varus (90% vs. 45%, p = 0.03) and showed favourable postoperative KOOS and MOCART scores (p = not significant). Conclusions: An individual range of leg alignment—whether achieved by osteotomy or physiologic alignment—should be respected in M‐ACI treatment. A neutral to slightly undercorrected alignment favours the postoperative outcome after M‐ACI. To improve the accuracy of an RNN when processing sparse and irregular multivariate clinical time series, we introduce two stacked deep learning models built on top of it, namely Padd-GRU and Alignment-driven Neural Network (ALNN). The Padd-GRU performs data-driven padding and imputation to obtain equal-length univariate and fill-in missing values, respectively. Then, the ALNN component transforms the resulting padded irregular multivariate clinical time series into a pseudo-aligned (or pseudo-regular) latent multivariate time series. Background: Incongruity between irregularly shaped vertebral endplates and the uniform surfaces of stock interbody fusion cages has been identified as contributing to cage subsidence, pseudarthrosis, and unpredictable alignment. Advances in manufacturing techniques have driven the development of personalized interbody cages (PICs) that can match individual endplate morphology and provide the exact shape and size needed to fill the disc space and achieve the planned correction. This study used computed tomography (CT) imaging to evaluate the implant-endplate contact area, fusion, subsidence, and achievement of planned alignment correction in patients receiving PIC devices. Methods: This retrospective study included patients treated for adult spinal deformity at a single site and implanted with PIC devices at L4 to L5 or L5 to S1 for segmental stabilization and alignment correction, who received 1-year postoperative CT images as part of their standard of care. An evaluation using 3-dimensional thin-section scans was conducted. Implant-endplate contact and signs of fusion were assessed in each CT slice across both endplates. The degree of subsidence as well as measures of segmental and global lumbar alignment were also assessed. Results: Fifteen patients were included in the study, with a mean age of 68.2 years. Follow-up ranged between 9 and 14 months. Twenty-six total lumbar levels were implanted; 20 with PIC devices via the anterior lumbar interbody fusion approach, 2 with stock cages via the anterior lumbar interbody fusion approach, and 4 with PIC devices via the transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion approach. CT analysis of PIC-implanted levels found an overall implant-endplate contact area ratio of 93.9%, a subsidence rate of 4.5%, a fusion rate of 100%, and satisfactory segmental and global lumbar correction compared with the preoperative plan. Conclusions: PIC implants can provide nearly complete contact with endplate surfaces regardless of the individual endplate morphology. Varus deformity is common in medial compartment knee osteoarthritis (OA). This coronal plane malalignment is compensated for by static and dynamic adjustments in the position of the adjacent joints, principally in the hindfoot & ankle. Varus knee OA can be treated in selected patients with high tibial osteotomy (HTO) and stabilised with a fixed angle plate or circular frame, which may reverse these compensatory adjustments. The aim of this systematic review is to determine the evidence available for static and dynamic compensations with the main objectives being to improve deformity planning and optimise patient outcomes. A systematic review with meta-analysis was designed using the PRISMA template to meet the research aims & objectives. A total of 1006 patients (1020 knees) with acombined mean age of 54.5 years, female:male ratio of 0.9:1 were extracted from 19 included studies. The methodologies of the majority of studies were at high risk of bias according to the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale demonstrating significant heterogeneity. The combined mean change in the HKA axis was 7.7°; MPTA 7.4°; TT, 0.21°; TI 4.56° & AJLO 4° valgus. Preoperative hindfoot valgus compensation reverts towards neutral post-HTO. There is limited evidence available for a direct relationship between static alignment and dynamic gait parameters. An inverse relationship between ankle and hindfoot alignment in varus deformity of the knee forms the basis of this compensation theory. In cases with a stiff hindfoot which may not revert postoperatively, the reconstructive orthopaedic surgeon may consider angulation with translation HTO, in order to optimise joint alignment and minimise transference of symptoms to the foot and ankle. This study examined employee satisfaction at Mivaan Steels Ltd, focusing on key factors that contribute to a positive work environment. Using a purposive sampling technique, we collected primary responses from employees who had at least one year of service and had attended training programs. A sample of 100 was selected from over 130 employees. The data was meticulously organized and analyzed graphically, with responses categorized under various subheadings. The results revealed high levels of job satisfaction driven by effective communication, regular recognition, and ample opportunities for career growth. Despite high levels of employee satisfaction, there is room for improvement, particularly around proactive discussions about career development and promoting a balanced and inclusive company culture. Aramid nanofibers (ANFs) are a strong and heat‐resistant nanomaterial that can be isolated from commercial para‐aramid fibers, which allow a bottom‐up self‐assembly to form ordered macroscale structures like ANF films. However, the anisotropic nature of high aspect ratio ANFs is not fully exploited when fabricating ANF films for the optimal mechanical properties. In this research, direct ink writing (DIW) is applied to produce ANF‐assembled films with arbitrary shapes, and the shear‐induced alignment of ANFs can follow the printing path direction. Therefore, controlled alignment of ANFs following the computer‐programmed printing pattern is achieved by DIW, which provides a path for the application of topology and nanofiber alignment optimization in nanofiber‐assembled films. In addition, the resulting DIW ANF films exhibit outstanding Young's modulus of 8.39 GPa, tensile strength of 198 MPa, and tensile toughness of 19.4 MJ m−3 in the alignment direction, together with a wide working temperature range up to 440 °C without losing 50% of its room temperature storage modulus. Moreover, the demonstrated self‐joining ability, rollability, and lamination processability of the DIW ANF films expand their potential applications toward high‐temperature ultrathin tubes, substrates for flexible printed circuit boards, and three‐dimensional all‐ANF lightweight structural parts in extreme environments. Inclusive education is vital for creating a nurturing learning environment for students with disabilities, but disparities in attitudes and practices among school administrators can hinder its effective implementation. This study explores the attitudes of school administrators and teachers toward inclusion across three dimensions: resources, training, and general attitudes. Emphasizing the need for alignment, the study proposes a targeted training program to guide educators in optimizing teaching for students with special needs. The study assesses the acceptability of this training initiative, aiming for a unified approach to inclusive education. In a quantitative, non-experimental study, 343 public school administrators and 5040 teachers were surveyed using a carefully tailored instrument with high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.93). Data analysis employing an average weighted mean and a t-test reveals a significant difference in attitudes between teachers and administrators. A proposed training program aligning with the Minnesota Department of Education's mission is informed by these findings. Table 6 confirms high acceptability among participants, substantiating the program's feasibility and potential positive impact on inclusive education practices in public schools. Collectively, Tables 3, 4, 5, and 6 provide a comprehensive snapshot of attitudes, perceptions, and responses toward inclusive education. Public school teachers exhibit a generally positive inclination toward inclusion, while administrators strongly support inclusive education principles. However, Table 5 signals a significant difference between teacher and administrator attitudes, necessitating alignment. The ability to manipulate the absorption, scattering, or reflectivity of light using synthetic materials has inspired innovations in nano‐ and micro‐materials for applications ranging from geoengineering to display optics. Asymmetric materials, like Janus particles, offer one solution to meet the needs of such technologies, as composition and geometry can be optimized to maximize directional optical properties in response to magnetic and/or electric fields, light, or electrostatic charge. In this work, a gram‐scale synthesis is applied to generate Janus matchstick particles comprising a gold head with a silica rod. Conditions are explored and optimized to elicit rotation of these matchstick particles under an alternating current (AC) electric field with varying field strength and frequency to maximize particle alignment. While only modest changes in transmission (≈8%) are observed over the visible spectral region with a bare silica rod, the application of an absorbing element increased transmission changes up to ≈23% demonstrating their utility as color‐changing materials. Experimental results are supported by theory and computation and highlight an important first step in activating directional optical effects in these materials which can be optimized for future adaptive technologies. Purpose: The main objective of this research is to identify the mechanisms adopted by the boards of directors and compensation committees of the companies listed in the B3 Novo Mercado segment to align the executive compensation strategy with the business strategy. Methodology: This is an applied and exploratory qualitative research, based on the method of interviews with specialists. Primary data was collected through interviews with board members and/or members of compensation committees with extensive experience in defining and approving executive compensation strategies. For content analysis, a three-level coding technique (open, axial, and theoretical) was applied using Atlas.TI software. Findings: The results obtained point to an evolution of the proposed theoretical model through the incorporation of subcategories of analysis that emerged from the empirical data collected in the interviews with specialists. Originality: The main contribution of this study is to point out the facilitating elements and main obstacles to the alignment between compensation strategy and business strategy, from the point of view of the experts involved in the process, and to propose a better practices guide for boards of directors and compensation committees. The management and processing of synchrotron and neutron computed tomography data can be a complex, labor‐intensive and unstructured process. Users devote substantial time to both manually processing their data (i.e. organizing data/metadata, applying image filters etc.) and waiting for the computation of iterative alignment and reconstruction algorithms to finish. In this work, we present a solution to these problems: TomoPyUI, a user interface for the well known tomography data processing package TomoPy. This highly visual Python software package guides the user through the tomography processing pipeline from data import, preprocessing, alignment and finally to 3D volume reconstruction. The TomoPyUI systematic intermediate data and metadata storage system improves organization, and the inspection and manipulation tools (built within the application) help to avoid interrupted workflows. Notably, TomoPyUI operates entirely within a Jupyter environment. Herein, we provide a summary of these key features of TomoPyUI, along with an overview of the tomography processing pipeline, a discussion of the landscape of existing tomography processing software and the purpose of TomoPyUI, and a demonstration of its capabilities for real tomography data collected at SSRL beamline 6‐2c. In the process of transtibial prosthetic fitting, alignment is the process of positioning the prosthetic foot relative to the residual limb. Changes in frontal plane alignment can impact knee moments during walking, which can either cause or, when aligned properly, prevent injuries. However, clinical evaluation of dynamic knee moments is challenging, limiting prosthetists' insights into dynamic joint loading. Typically, knee joint loading is assessed in static stance using the knee moment arm as a proxy for subsequent dynamic alignment. It remains uncertain if static alignment accurately represents actual dynamics during walking. Is the frontal knee moment arm in stance predictive for the knee moment arm and external knee adduction moment during gait in transtibial bone-anchored prosthesis users? In this cross-sectional study, twenty-seven unilateral transtibial bone-anchored prosthesis users underwent data acquisition on the M-Gait instrumented treadmill. Static and dynamic measurements were conducted, and knee moment arm and external knee adduction moment were calculated. Pearson's correlation and linear regression analyses were performed to examine relationships between static and dynamic knee moment arms and external knee adduction moments. The static knee moment arm showed significant associations with dynamic knee moment arm at the ground reaction force peaks (First: r=0.60, r2=35%, p<0.001; Second: r=0.62, r2=38%, p=0.001) and knee adduction moment (First: r=0.42, r2=17%, p=0.030; Second: r=0.59, r2=35%, p=0.001). A 1 mm between-subject difference in static knee moment arm corresponded, on average, with a 0.9% difference in knee adduction moment at the first peak and a 1.5% difference at the second peak of the ground reaction force. While static alignment is important to optimize adduction moments during stance it may only partly mitigate excessive moments during gait. The fair correlation and limited percentage of explained variance underscores the importance of dynamic alignment in optimizing the body's dynamic load during walking. • Static KMA has a fair to good correlation to dynamic KMA in transtibial amputees. • KMA has a very good to excellent correlation to the external knee adduction moment. • There is a limited explained variance of static KMA to the dynamic parameters. • A 1 mm static KMA shift causes a 1% dynamic adduction moment change. Introduction: Spinopelvic mobility drives functional acetabular position, influencing dislocation risk after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Patients have been described as "stuck sitting" or "stuck standing" based on pelvic tilt (PT). We hypothesised that some patients are "stuck in the middle," meaning their PT changes minimally from sitting to standing – increasing their risk of dislocation. Methods: We reviewed 195 patients with standing and sitting whole body radiographs prior to THA. Standing anterior pelvic plane tilt (APPT) and standing and sitting sacral slope (SS) were measured and used to calculate sitting APPT. Normal standing and sitting were defined as APPT >−10° and <−20°, respectively. Spinal stiffness was classified as <10° change in sacral slope between sitting and standing. Patients were categorised as: (A) able to fully sit and stand; (B) "stuck sitting" - able to fully sit; unable to fully stand; (C) "stuck standing" - able to fully stand; unable to fully sit; or (D) "stuck in the middle" - unable to sit or stand fully. Results: 84 patients could sit and stand normally (A), 22 patients were stuck sitting (B), 76 patients were stuck standing (C), and 13 patients were stuck in the middle (D). While 111 patients (56.9%) were considered stuck, only 58 patients (29.7%) met criteria for spinal stiffness. Discussion: We identified a subset of patients with stiff spines and abnormal PT in both sitting and standing, including 37.1% of patients who would be classified as "stuck sitting" based only on standing radiographs. Placing acetabular components in less than anatomic anteversion in these patients may increase posterior dislocation risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of canine genome assemblies available. Duplications are an important source of evolutionary novelty and are also prone to misassembly. We explored the duplication content of nine canine genome assemblies using both genome self-alignment and read-depth approaches. We find that 8.58% of the genome is duplicated in the canFam4 assembly, derived from the German Shepherd Dog Mischka, including 90.15% of unplaced contigs. Highlighting the continued difficulty in properly assembling duplications, less than half of read-depth and assembly alignment duplications overlap, but the mCanLor1.2 Greenland wolf assembly shows greater concordance. Further study shows the presence of multiple segments that have alignments to four or more duplicate copies. These high-recurrence duplications correspond to gene retrocopies. We identified 3,892 candidate retrocopies from 1,316 parental genes in the canFam4 assembly and find that ∼8.82% of duplicated base pairs involve a retrocopy, confirming this mechanism as a major driver of gene duplication in canines. Similar patterns are found across eight other recent canine genome assemblies, with metrics supporting a greater quality of the PacBio HiFi mCanLor1.2 assembly. Comparison between the wolf and other canine assemblies found that 92% of retrocopy insertions are shared between assemblies. By calculating the number of generations since genome divergence, we estimate that new retrocopy insertions appear, on average, in 1 out of 3,514 births. Our analyses illustrate the impact of retrogene formation on canine genomes and highlight the variable representation of duplicated sequences among recently completed canine assemblies. Purpose: When planning and delivering total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there are multiple coronal alignment strategies such as functional alignment (FA), kinematic alignment (KA), mechanical and adjusted mechanical alignment (MA, aMA). Recent three‐dimensional and robotic‐assisted surgery (RAS) studies have demonstrated that KA potentially better restores the trochlear anatomy than MA. The purpose of this study was to compare the restoration of the native trochlear orientation in patients undergoing RAS TKA using four different alignment strategies. It was hypothesised that FA would result in the lowest number of outliers. Methods: This is a prospective study of 200 patients undergoing RAS‐TKA with a single implant. All patients were analysed for MA and KA prebalancing, and 157 patients received aMA and 43 patients FA with intraoperative balancing. Preoperative transverse computed tomography scans were used to determine the posterior condylar axis (PCA), lateral trochlear inclination (LTI) angle, sulcus angle (SA) and anterior trochlear line (ATL) angle. Implant measurements were obtained using a photographic analysis. Intraoperative software data combined with implant data and preoperative measurements were used to calculate the differences. Outliers were defined as ≥3° of alteration. Trochlea dysplasia was defined as LTI < 12°. Results: Native transepicondylar PCA had a median of 2°, LTI 18°, SA 137°, ATL 4°. LTI outliers were observed in 47%–60% of cases, with KA < FA < aMA < MA. For ATL, the range of outliers was 40.5%–85%, KA < FA < aMA < MA. SA produced 81% of outliers. Of all median angle values, only LTI when using KA was not significantly altered compared to the native knee. Conclusion: There is a significant alteration of trochlear orientation after TKA, regardless of the alignment strategy used. KA produced the lowest, but a substantial, number of outliers. The uniform design of implants causes the surgeon to compromise on balance in flexion versus trochlear position. The clinical relevance of this compromise requires further clinical investigations. Introduction: There are numerous ways to transfer the alignment of a lower-limb prosthesis that have been used and adapted over the last several decades. The proposed glass tracing alignment method (GTAM) allows for a convenient and rapid transfer of prosthetic alignment in the coronal and sagittal planes with minimal equipment requirements. Objective: The aim of this article is to share a novel method for coronal and sagittal plane prosthetic alignment transfer, which may be done with minimal time, materials, and expense. Materials and Methods: Prosthetic alignment may be transferred in part or in whole by tracing the prosthesis in both the coronal and sagittal planes. The prosthesis must first be stabilized on a surface that allows for the prosthetic foot to be traced and is adjacent to a wall surface that allows for tracing of the prosthesis proximal to the foot. The line of progression (LOP) of the prosthesis should be parallel to the edge of the table it is traced upon and in a vertical orientation when tracing the entire prosthesis in the sagittal plane. When tracing the coronal plane alignment, the foot should be oriented vertically and placed in the LOP. Sagittal and coronal tracings should include as much of the prosthesis as possible to insure the most accurate alignment transfer of components. The GTAM was developed to be a clinical complement to traditional alignment transfer methods, which may include use a vertical or horizontal prosthetic alignment transfer jig. Results: Use of the described alignment tracing technique allows for the rapid alignment transfer of prosthetic componentry for a variety of applications. Conclusions: The GTAM proposed is an easy way for a busy practitioner to certify that alignment transfers have been performed correctly or to preserve alignment when replacing elements of a prosthesis for clinical and/or research applications. The aim of this article was to identify the embedded Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) in undergraduate business sustainability programs curricula. A purposive sample of 23 programs was analyzed. The sources of data were the secondary data published by the universities about the program curricula, together with the course descriptions. Course descriptions were analyzed. This study revealed that the most aligned SDG is goal 12: responsible consumption and production. The programs were clustered according to the sustainability dimensions of the embedded SDGs in three general clusters. The courses differed in their alignment with the SDGs. Distal extremity misalignment may give rise to pelvic floor dysfunctions (PFDs). This study aimed to compare pelvic floor muscle strength (PFMS) and dysfunctions in women with and without pes planus. Women with (pes planus group, n = 30) and without pes planus (control group, n = 30) were included. The presence of PFDs questioned. Pes planus with the Feiss Line Test, PFMS with the Modified Oxford Scale, and the severity of PFDs with the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-20 (PFDI-20), including three subscales (Pelvic Organ Distress Inventory-6 (POPDI-6) for pelvic organ prolapse, Colorectal-Anal Distress Inventory-8 (CRADI-8) for colorecto-anal symptoms, and Urinary Distress Inventory-6 (UDI-6) for urinary symptoms, were assessed. It was seen that no difference was found between groups in terms of PFMS (p > 0.05). However, urinary incontinence and anal incontinence were higher in women with pes planus than in women without pes planus (p < 0.05). Only the PFDI-20, CRADI-8, and UDI-6 scores were higher in women with pes planus compared to controls (p < 0.05). There was no difference was found between groups in terms of POPDI-6 scores (p > 0.05). The PFMS did not change according to the presence of pes planus. However, the prevalence of PFDs and their severity were higher in women with pes planus in comparison to controls. Posture assessments of individuals with PFDs, especially examination of foot posture, and pelvic floor assessments of individuals with posture disorders should be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Pressure distribution in the ankle joint is known to be dependent on various factors, including hindfoot alignment. We seek to evaluate how hindfoot alignment affects contact pressures in the ankle joint in the setting of supination external rotation (SER) type ankle fractures. Methods: SER fractures were created in 10 human cadaver lower extremity specimens, simulating progressive stages of injury: without fracture (step 0), SER fracture and intact deltoid ligament (step 1), superficial deltoid ligament disruption (step 2), and deep deltoid ligament disruption (step 3). At each step, varus and valgus alignment was simulated by displacing the calcaneal tuberosity 7 mm medial or lateral. Each limb was axially loaded following each osteotomy at a static load of 350 N. The center of force (COF), contact area (CA), and peak contact pressure (PP) under load were measured, and radiographs of the ankle mortise were taken to analyze the medial clear space (MCS) and talar tilt (TT). Results: The COF (5.3 mm, P =.030) and the CA (−188.4 mm2, P =.015) changed in step 3 in the valgus hindfoot alignment compared to baseline parameters, indicating the importance of deep deltoid ligament integrity in maintaining normal ankle joint contact stress in the valgus hindfoot. These changes were not seen in the setting of varus alignment (COF: 2.3 mm, P =.059; CA −121 mm2, P =.133). PP were found to not change significantly in either varus or valgus (varus: −4.9 N, P =.132; valgus: −4 N, P =.464). The MCS demonstrated widening in step 3 compared to step 2 (0.7 mm, P =.020) in both varus and valgus hindfoot. The TT increased significantly in step 3 in the valgus hindfoot (2.8 degrees, P =.020) compared to step 0. Conclusion: SER-IV fractures with valgus hindfoot alignment showed significant changes in pressure distribution and radiographic parameters when compared to SER-IV fractures with varus hindfoot alignment. Clinical Relevance: Based on this cadaver modeling study, patients with SERIV fracture with varus hindfoot alignment and complete deltoid ligament lesion may not need fracture fixation, whereas those with valgus hindfoot alignment likely need fracture fixation. Overlay accuracy, one of the three fundamental indicators of lithography, is directly influenced by alignment precision. During the alignment process based on the Moiré fringe method, a slight angular misalignment between the mask and wafer will cause the Moiré fringes to tilt, thereby affecting the alignment accuracy. This paper proposes a leveling strategy based on the DQN (Deep Q-Network) algorithm. This strategy involves using four consecutive frames of wafer tilt images as the input values for a convolutional neural network (CNN), which serves as the environment model. The environment model is divided into two groups: the horizontal plane tilt environment model and the vertical plane tilt environment model. After convolution through the CNN and training with the pooling operation, the Q-value consisting of n discrete actions is output. In the DQN algorithm, the main contributions of this paper lie in three points: the adaptive application of environmental model input, parameter optimization of the loss function, and the possibility of application in the actual environment to provide some ideas. The environment model input interface can be applied to different tilt models and more complex scenes. The optimization of the loss function can match the leveling of different tilt models. Considering the application of this strategy in actual scenarios, motion calibration and detection between the mask and the wafer provide some ideas. To verify the reliability of the algorithm, simulations were conducted to generate tilted Moiré fringes resulting from tilt angles of the wafer plate, and the phase of the tilted Moiré fringes was subsequently calculated. The angle of the wafer was automatically adjusted using the DQN algorithm, and then various angles were measured. Repeated measurements were also conducted at the same angle. The angle deviation accuracy of the horizontal plane tilt environment model reached 0.0011 degrees, and the accuracy of repeated measurements reached 0.00025 degrees. The angle deviation accuracy of the vertical plane tilt environment model reached 0.0043 degrees, and repeated measurements achieved a precision of 0.00027 degrees. Moreover, in practical applications, it also provides corresponding ideas to ensure the determination of the relative position between the mask and wafer and the detection of movement, offering the potential for its application in the industry. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to compare patient satisfaction patient‐reported outcomes (PROMs) levels after mechanically aligned (MA) and kinematically aligned (KA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: A systematic literature search following PRISMA guidelines was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Medline and Scopus to identify potentially relevant articles for this review, published from the beginning of March 2013 until the end of October 2023. Only articles reporting satisfaction after KA TKA, MA TKA or both were included, which use valid and reliable tools for the evaluation and reporting of satisfaction after TKA. Title, authors, year of publication, study design, level of evidence, follow‐up period, patients' demographic data, sample size, type of satisfaction score, postoperative satisfaction score, postoperative alignment, statistical significance, as well as other variables, were extracted for analysis. An Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) design‐specific scale was used for assessing randomized control trials (RCTs). The nonrandomized control trials were evaluated by using the Joanna Briggs Institute's (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tool. The Newcastle‐Ottawa Scale (NOS) was also used to assess cohort studies, while case series were evaluated using the NIH Quality Assessment Tool for Case Series Studies. Results: The initial search identified 316 studies, of which 178 were considered for screening. Eleven studies completely fulfilled the inclusion criteria, including one RCT, five nonrandomized control trials/quasi‐experiments, three case series, and two cohort studies. The total number of patients recruited for MA TKA was 1740. Conversely, 497 patients were enrolled for KA TKA. Five studies used the visual analogue scale (VAS) for assessing postoperative patient satisfaction, four used the Knee Society Score (KSS) 2011 version and two Likert‐based types of scores. Overall, the highest mean satisfaction score of KSS 2011 was 31.5 ± 6.6 in the MA group, and 29.8 ± 80 in the KA group in four studies. All of them showed high postoperative patient satisfaction rates for both MA and KA TKA, but with no statistically significant difference between them (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Both mechanically aligned total knee arthroplasty, as well as kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty led to high rates of postoperative patient satisfaction, with no statistically significant differences between them. Purpose: One of the most common types of coronal plane alignment of the knee (CPAK) is type I, which is characterised by varus alignment and apex distal joint line obliquity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association of changes in arithmetic hip–knee–ankle angle (aHKA) with both postoperative joint laxity and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) in patients with CPAK type I following mechanical alignment (MA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: Of 111 consecutive knees in 92 patients with osteoarthritis who underwent primary TKA, 80 knees (72.0%) with CPAK type I phenotype preoperatively were evaluated. All TKAs were performed to achieve neutral MA by a medial stabilising gap balancing technique. Pre‐ to postoperative change in aHKA was defined as ΔaHKA. The 80 CPAK type I knees were divided into a larger ΔaHKA group (>7°) and a smaller ΔaHKA group (≤7°). PROMs, including the Knee Society Score and Forgotten Joint Score‐12, were assessed before and 2 years after surgery. Pre‐ and postoperative joint laxity was assessed using a Telos arthrometer. Results: Twenty‐two knees showed a larger ΔaHKA, and postoperative lateral joint laxity in varus stress was significantly greater in these patients than in those with a smaller ΔaHKA (6.8° vs. 4.5°, p = 0.006). There were no significant differences between the groups in PROMs (p = n.s.). Conclusions: Postoperative lateral laxity was associated with larger aHKA changes than smaller aHKA changes in CPAK type I knees after TKA. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the differences in lower limb global alignment and anatomical parameters of coronal whole‐leg radiographs, which were generally used in preoperative planning for high tibial osteotomy (HTO), according to different weight‐bearing standing positions. Methods: Between April 2021 and December 2022, 176 patients (60 males and 116 females) were investigated. Full‐weight‐bearing coronal whole‐leg radiographs were obtained with the patella centred on the femoral condyle. Patients were divided by Kellgren–Lawrence grade (KL‐0, KL‐I, KL‐II and KL‐III) and assessed in two standing positions: legs closed and legs spread. Patients with flexion contractures or those unable to stand with full weight bearing were excluded. The mechanical distal femoral angle, medial proximal tibial angle (MPTA), femorotibial angle, joint line convergence angle, percentage weight‐bearing line (%WBL) and hip‐knee‐ankle angle (HKAA) were measured. The Student's t test was used to compare the two standing positions. A p value < 0.05 indicated a statistically significant difference. Results: The MPTAs of legs closed standing and legs spread standing were 84.9 ± 2.6° and 85.1 ± 2.4° in KL‐0, 84.7 ± 2.0° and 84.9 ± 2.1° in KL‐I and 85.0 ± 2.43° and 85.4 ± 2.4° in KL‐II, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in the MPTA between the two standing positions in KL‐0, KL‐I and KL‐II. In contrast, the %WBL and HKAA did not change regardless of the standing position. In the KL‐III group, no statistical significance was observed for any of the anatomical parameters. Conclusion: Several anatomical parameters were changed between the legs closed standing and the legs spread standing positions. Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the relationship between the amount of femorotibial alignment correction and the amount of improvement of hindfoot alignment in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods: A total of 159 knees undergoing TKA in 120 patients were assessed preoperatively and at 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months postoperatively. Standing hindfoot alignment was evaluated using the leg‐heel angle (LHA). The amount of change in hindfoot alignment was compared between patients with severe varus knee (Group 1) and those with moderate varus, neutral or valgus knee (Group 2). Results: The mean values of pre‐ and postoperative hip‐knee‐ankle (HKA) angle were −14 ± 4° and −1 ± 3° in Group 1 and −7 ± 5° and −1 ± 3° in Group 2, respectively. The differences between pre‐ and postoperative LHA were significantly larger in Group 1 than in Group 2 at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively (p = 0.006, 0.001 and 0.03, respectively). At 6 months postoperatively, no differences were observed between the two groups (p = 0.31). Conclusion: The amount of change in hindfoot alignment was larger in Group 1 than in Group 2 at 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months after TKA, but there was no significant difference between the two groups at 6 months after TKA. Purpose: Computer‐assisted surgery (CAS) during primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) prosthesis alignment. However, literature on its use during revision TKA (rTKA) is scarce. Moreover, the effect of CAS during rTKA on rotational alignment of the prosthesis has not been described yet. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of CAS during rTKA, focusing on the number of outliers and coronal, sagittal and rotational prosthetic alignment compared to conventional rTKA. Methods: A prospective cohort study comparing CAS‐rTKA with a historical control group (CON‐rTKA). The CAS‐rTKA group (54 patients/62 knees) underwent rTKA using imageless CAS between 2012 and 2017. The CON‐rTKA group (13 patients/23 knees) was operated using the conventional technique between 2002 and 2012. Postoperative alignment was measured using the EOS‐2D/3D system (coronal and sagittal planes) and computed tomography scan (rotation). Results: No significant differences between the CAS‐rTKA and CON‐rTKA groups were found for coronal and sagittal alignment regarding the mechanical angle of the leg (p = 0.08), mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (p = 0.87), mechanical medial proximal tibial angle (p = 0.40), anatomical proximal posterior tibial angle (p = 0.43) nor femoral (p = 0.80) and tibial rotation (p = 0.15). For the proportions of coronal, sagittal and rotational outliers, no significant differences were found either. Conclusion: This study showed no evidence that use of CAS during rTKA leads to improved coronal, sagittal or rotational alignment of knee prostheses or a difference of outliers between the groups. Purpose: The Knee Society Scoring System (KSS) is a frequently used outcome score which quantifies functional patients' outcomes before and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Several problems arise when trying to implement KSS for obtaining postoperative outcomes after more personalised aligned TKAs. Scoring for valgus femorotibial angle (FTA) intervals outside moderate ranges is often poorly explained, the specific version of KSS used for outcome collection is frequently unclear and the exact measuring methods are typically not described in the literature. The aims of this systematic review were to investigate the latest user practice, the application of KSS and its limitations after kinematically aligned (KA) TKA. Methods: A systematic literature search following PRISMA guidelines was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Medline and Scopus to identify potentially relevant articles for this review, published from the beginning of January 2013 until the end of January 2023. Broad Mesh terms such as 'kinematic alignment', 'total knee arthroplasty' and 'knee society score' were used for building search strategy in each database accordingly. Articles reporting postoperative values of the objective surgeon‐assessed KSS after KA TKA or KA and mechanically aligned TKA were included. For assessing included randomised control trials (RCTs), an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's design‐specific scale for assessing RCTs was used. The non‐RCTs were assessed by using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Tool. The Ottawa–Newcastle Score system was also used. Studies were additionally evaluated for their radiological methodology by using a five‐question checklist (Radiological Assessment Qualit criteria). Results: The initial search identified 167 studies, of which 129 were considered for screening. Ten studies reporting outcomes after KA TKA did not use the objective surgeon‐assessed part of KSS for clinical outcome measurement, and 30 studies reporting outcomes after KA TKA did not use KSS at all for clinical and/or functional outcomes. From the 10 included studies, only six have used the latest KSS score (2011), the rest using its 1989 variant; and out of these six studies, only two presented values of the FTA, which is needed for calculating the KSS's 'alignment' subcomponent, the rest presenting hip–knee–ankle angle (HKA) values. Additionally, when converting these HKA values to FTA intervals, the authors of this systematic review found that KA TKA FTA intervals display limits, which tend to be outside the 'well‐scored' KSS anatomical alignment interval. Conclusion: The inconsistent and nonstandardised use of the surgeon‐assessed KSS across studies reviewed compromises assessment reliability and patient outcome scores. To enhance precision and comparability, it is crucial to standardise the KSS application, incorporating personalised alignment strategies for more accurate patient evaluations. Many classical examples of models of self-organized dynamics, including the Cucker-- Smale, Motsch--Tadmor, multi-species, and several others, include an alignment force that is based upon density-weighted averaging protocol. Those protocols can be viewed as special cases of "environmental averaging". In this paper we formalize this concept and introduce a unified framework for systematic analysis of alignment models. A series of studies are presented including the mean-field limit in deterministic and stochastic settings, hydrodynamic limits in the monokinetic and Maxwellian regimes, hypocoercivity and global relaxation for dissipative kinetic models, several general alignment results based on chain connectivity and spectral gap analysis. These studies covermany of the known results and reveal new ones, which include asymptotic alignment criteria based on connectivity conditions, new estimates on the spectral gap of the alignment force that do not rely on the upper bound of the macroscopic density, uniform gain of positivity for solutions of the Fokker--Planck-alignment model based on smooth environmental averaging. As a consequence, we establish unconditional relaxation result for global solutions to the Fokker--Planck-alignment model, which presents a substantial improvement over previously known perturbative results. Multi-modal fusion technology gradually become a fundamental task in many fields, such as autonomous driving, smart healthcare, sentiment analysis, and human-computer interaction. It is rapidly becoming the dominant research due to its powerful perception and judgment capabilities. Under complex scenes, multi-modal fusion technology utilizes the complementary characteristics of multiple data streams to fuse different data types and achieve more accurate predictions. However, achieving outstanding performance is challenging because of equipment performance limitations, missing information, and data noise. This paper comprehensively reviews existing methods based on multi-modal fusion techniques and completes a detailed and in-depth analysis. According to the data fusion stage, multi-modal fusion has four primary methods: early fusion, deep fusion, late fusion, and hybrid fusion. The paper surveys the three major multi-modal fusion technologies that can significantly enhance the effect of data fusion and further explore the applications of multi-modal fusion technology in various fields. Finally, it discusses the challenges and explores potential research opportunities. Multi-modal tasks still need intensive study because of data heterogeneity and quality. Preserving complementary information and eliminating redundant information between modalities is critical in multi-modal technology.
