Singing voice conversion (SVC) automates song covers by converting one singer's singing voice into another target singer's singing voice with the original lyrics and melody. However, it raises serious concerns about copyright and civil right infringements to multiple entities. This work proposes SongBsAb, the first proactive approach to mitigate unauthorized SVC-based illegal song covers. SongBsAb introduces human-imperceptible perturbations to singing voices before releasing them, so that when they are used, the generation process of SVC will be interfered, resulting in unexpected singing voices. SongBsAb features a dual prevention effect by causing both (singer) identity disruption and lyric disruption, namely, the SVC-covered singing voice neither imitates the target singer nor preserves the original lyrics. To improve the imperceptibility of perturbations, we refine a psychoacoustic model-based loss with the backing track as an additional masker, a unique accompanying element for singing voices compared to ordinary speech voices. To enhance the transferability, we propose to utilize a frame-level interaction reduction-based loss. We demonstrate the prevention effectiveness, utility, and robustness of SongBsAb on three SVC models and two datasets using both objective and human study-based subjective metrics. Our work fosters an emerging research direction for mitigating illegal automated song covers.

World is looking for clean and renewable energy sources that do not pollute the environment, in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. Wind energy has significant potential to not only reduce greenhouse emission, but also meet the ever increasing demand for energy. To enable the effective utilization of wind energy, addressing the following three challenges in wind data analysis is crucial. Firstly, improving data resolution in various climate conditions to ensure an ample supply of information for assessing potential energy resources. Secondly, implementing dimensionality reduction techniques for data collected from sensors/simulations to efficiently manage and store large datasets. Thirdly, extrapolating wind data from one spatial specification to another, particularly in cases where data acquisition may be impractical or costly. We propose a deep learning based approach to achieve multi-modal continuous resolution wind data prediction from discontinuous wind data, along with data dimensionality reduction.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have become increasingly popular for their advanced text generation capabilities across various domains. However, like any software, they face security challenges, including the risk of 'jailbreak' attacks that manipulate LLMs to produce prohibited content. A particularly underexplored area is the Multilingual Jailbreak attack, where malicious questions are translated into various languages to evade safety filters. Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive empirical studies addressing this specific threat. To address this research gap, we conducted an extensive empirical study on Multilingual Jailbreak attacks. We developed a novel semantic-preserving algorithm to create a multilingual jailbreak dataset and conducted an exhaustive evaluation on both widely-used open-source and commercial LLMs, including GPT-4 and LLaMa. Additionally, we performed interpretability analysis to uncover patterns in Multilingual Jailbreak attacks and implemented a fine-tuning mitigation method. Our findings reveal that our mitigation strategy significantly enhances model defense, reducing the attack success rate by 96.2%. This study provides valuable insights into understanding and mitigating Multilingual Jailbreak attacks.

In recent times, a plethora of Large Code Generation Models (LCGMs) have been proposed, showcasing significant potential in assisting developers with complex programming tasks. Benchmarking LCGMs necessitates the creation of a set of diverse programming problems, and each problem comprises the prompt (including the task description), canonical solution, and test inputs. The existing methods for constructing such a problem set can be categorized into two main types: manual methods and perturbation-based methods. However, manual methods demand high effort and lack scalability, while also risking data integrity due to LCGMs' potentially contaminated data collection, and perturbation-based approaches mainly generate semantically homogeneous problems with the same canonical solutions and introduce typos that can be easily auto-corrected by IDE, making them ineffective and unrealistic. In this work, we propose the idea of programming problem merging (PPM) and provide two implementation of this idea, we utilize our tool on two widely-used datasets and compare it against nine baseline methods using eight code generation models. Timely, personalized feedback is essential for students learning programming. LLM-powered tools like ChatGPT offer instant support, but reveal direct answers with code, which may hinder deep conceptual engagement. We developed CodeAid, an LLM-powered programming assistant delivering helpful, technically correct responses, without revealing code solutions. CodeAid answers conceptual questions, generates pseudo-code with line-by-line explanations, and annotates student's incorrect code with fix suggestions. We deployed CodeAid in a programming class of 700 students for a 12-week semester. A thematic analysis of 8,000 usages of CodeAid was performed, further enriched by weekly surveys, and 22 student interviews. We then interviewed eight programming educators to gain further insights. Collecting relevant and high-quality data is integral to the development of effective Software Vulnerability (SV) prediction models. Most of the current SV datasets rely on SV-fixing commits to extract vulnerable functions and lines. However, none of these datasets have considered latent SVs existing between the introduction and fix of the collected SVs. There is also little known about the usefulness of these latent SVs for SV prediction. To bridge these gaps, we conduct a large-scale study on the latent vulnerable functions in two commonly used SV datasets and their utilization for function-level and line-level SV predictions. Leveraging the state-of-the-art SZZ algorithm, we identify more than 100k latent vulnerable functions in the studied datasets. We find that these latent functions can increase the number of SVs by 4x on average and correct up to 5k mislabeled functions, yet they have a noise level of around 6%. Despite the noise, we show that the state-of-the-art SV prediction model can significantly benefit from such latent SVs. The improvements are up to 24.5% in the performance (F1-Score) of function-level SV predictions and up to 67% in the effectiveness of localizing vulnerable lines. In recent years, the notion of ``the right to be forgotten" (RTBF) has become a crucial aspect of data privacy for digital trust and AI safety, requiring the provision of mechanisms that support the removal of personal data of individuals upon their requests. Consequently, machine unlearning (MU) has gained considerable attention which allows an ML model to selectively eliminate identifiable information. Evolving from MU, federated unlearning (FU) has emerged to confront the challenge of data erasure within federated learning (FL) settings, which empowers the FL model to unlearn an FL client or identifiable information pertaining to the client. Nevertheless, the distinctive attributes of federated learning introduce specific challenges for FU techniques. These challenges necessitate a tailored design when developing FU algorithms. While various concepts and numerous federated unlearning schemes exist in this field, the unified workflow and tailored design of FU are not yet well understood. Therefore, this comprehensive survey delves into the techniques and methodologies in FU providing an overview of fundamental concepts and principles, evaluating existing federated unlearning algorithms, and reviewing optimizations tailored to federated learning. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are promising self-powering supplies for a diverse range of intelligent sensing and monitoring devices, especially due to their capability of harvesting electric energy from low frequency and small-scale mechanical motions. Inspired by the fact that contact-separation mode TENGs with small contact areas harvest high electrical outputs due to fringing effect, this study employed discontinuity on the dielectric side of contact-separation mode TENGs to promote fringing electric fields for the enhancement of electrical outputs. The results reveal that the TENGs with more discontinuities show higher overall electric performance. Compared to pristine TENGs, the TENGs with cross discontinuities increased the surface charge by 50% and the power density by 114%. However, one should avoid generating discontinuities on tribonegative side of TENGs using metal blade within a positive-ion atmosphere due to the neutralization through electrically conductive metal blade. The computational simulation validated that the TENGs with discontinuities obtained higher electrical outputs, and further investigated the effect of discontinuity gap size and array distance on TENGs performance. Near-space information networks (NSINs) composed of high-altitude platforms (HAPs) and high- and low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are a new regime for providing quick, robust, and cost-efficient sensing and communication services. Precipitated by innovations and breakthroughs in manufacturing, materials, communications, electronics, and control techniques, NSINs have been envisioned as an essential component of the emerging sixth-generation of mobile communication systems. This article reveals some critical issues needing to be tackled in NSINs through conducting experiments and discusses the latest advances in NSINs in the research areas of channel modeling, networking, and transmission from a forward-looking, comparative, and technical evolutionary perspective. In this article, we highlight the characteristics of NSINs and present the promising use cases of NSINs. The impact of airborne platforms' unstable movements on the phase delays of onboard antenna arrays with diverse structures is mathematically analyzed. The recent advances in HAP channel modeling are elaborated on, along with the significant differences between HAP and UAV channel modeling. A comprehensive review of the networking techniques of NSINs in network deployment, handoff management, and network management aspects is provided. Besides, the promising techniques and communication protocols of the physical (PHY) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer, network layer, and transport layer of NSINs for achieving efficient transmission over NSINs are reviewed, and we have conducted experiments with practical NSINs to verify the performance of some techniques. Finally, we outline some open issues and promising directions for NSINs deserved for future study and discuss the corresponding challenges.

Traffic signal control (TSC) is a challenging problem within intelligent transportation systems and has been tackled using multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). While centralized approaches are often infeasible for large-scale TSC problems, decentralized approaches provide scalability but introduce new challenges, such as partial observability. Communication plays a critical role in decentralized MARL, as agents must learn to exchange information using messages to better understand the system and achieve effective coordination. Deep MARL has been used to enable inter-agent communication by learning communication protocols in a differentiable manner. However, many deep MARL communication frameworks proposed for TSC allow agents to communicate with all other agents at all times, which can add to the existing noise in the system and degrade overall performance. In this study, we propose a communication-based MARL framework for large-scale TSC. Our framework allows each agent to learn a communication policy that dictates "which" part of the message is sent "to whom". In essence, our framework enables agents to selectively choose the recipients of their messages and exchange variable length messages with them. This results in a decentralized and flexible communication mechanism in which agents can effectively use the communication channel only when necessary. We designed two networks, a synthetic $4 \times 4$ grid network and a real-world network based on the Pasubio neighborhood in Bologna. Our framework achieved the lowest network congestion compared to related methods, with agents utilizing $\sim 47-65 \%$ of the communication channel. Recent breakthroughs in pre-trained code models, such as CodeBERT and Codex, have shown their superior performance in various downstream tasks. The correctness and unambiguity of API usage among these code models are crucial for achieving desirable program functionalities, requiring them to learn various API fully qualified names structurally and semantically. Recent studies reveal that even state-of-the-art pre-trained code models struggle with suggesting the correct APIs during code generation. However, the reasons for such poor API usage performance are barely investigated. To address this challenge, we propose using knowledge probing as a means of interpreting code models, which uses cloze-style tests to measure the knowledge stored in models. Our comprehensive study examines a code model's capability of understanding API fully qualified names from two different perspectives: API call and API import. Specifically, we reveal that current code models struggle with understanding API names, with pre-training strategies significantly affecting the quality of API name learning. We demonstrate that natural language context can assist code models in locating Python API names and generalize Python API name knowledge to unseen data. Our findings provide insights into the limitations and capabilities of current pre-trained code models, and suggest that incorporating API structure into the pre-training process can improve automated API usage and code representations. Bayesian inference for neural networks, or Bayesian deep learning, has the potential to provide well-calibrated predictions with quantified uncertainty and robustness. However, the main hurdle for Bayesian deep learning is its computational complexity due to the high dimensionality of the parameter space. In this work, we propose a novel scheme that addresses this limitation by constructing a low-dimensional subspace of the neural network parameters-referred to as an active subspace-by identifying the parameter directions that have the most significant influence on the output of the neural network. We demonstrate that the significantly reduced active subspace enables effective and scalable Bayesian inference via either Monte Carlo (MC) sampling methods, otherwise computationally intractable, or variational inference. Empirically, our approach provides reliable predictions with robust uncertainty estimates for various regression tasks.

Code datasets are of immense value for training neural-network-based code completion models, where companies or organizations have made substantial investments to establish and process these datasets. Unluckily, these datasets, either built for proprietary or public usage, face the high risk of unauthorized exploits, resulting from data leakages, license violations, etc. Even worse, the ``black-box'' nature of neural models sets a high barrier for externals to audit their training datasets, which further connives these unauthorized usages. Currently, watermarking methods have been proposed to prohibit inappropriate usage of image and natural language datasets. However, due to domain specificity, they are not directly applicable to code datasets, leaving the copyright protection of this emerging and important field of code data still exposed to threats. To fill this gap, we propose a method, named CodeMark, to embed user-defined imperceptible watermarks into code datasets to trace their usage in training neural code completion models. CodeMark is based on adaptive semantic-preserving transformations, which preserve the exact functionality of the code data and keep the changes covert against rule-breakers. We implement CodeMark in a toolkit and conduct an extensive evaluation of code completion models. The modified Cholesky decomposition is popular for inverse covariance estimation, but often needs pre-specification on the full information of variable ordering. In this work, we propose a block Cholesky decomposition (BCD) for estimating inverse covariance matrix under the partial information of variable ordering, in the sense that the variables can be divided into several groups with available ordering among groups, but variables within each group have no orderings. The proposed BCD model provides a unified framework for several existing methods including the modified Cholesky decomposition and the Graphical lasso. By utilizing the partial information on variable ordering, the proposed BCD model guarantees the positive definiteness of the estimated matrix with statistically meaningful interpretation. Theoretical results are established under regularity conditions. Simulation and case studies are conducted to evaluate the proposed BCD model.

We employ the holographic quench technique to drive Einstein-Maxwell-scalar (EMs) black holes out of equilibrium and study the real-time dynamics therein. From the fully nonlinear dynamical simulations, a dynamically unstable Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{\text{o}}$m anti-de Sitter (RN-AdS) black hole can be scalarized spontaneously after an arbitrarily small quench. On the other hand, a dynamically stable scalarized black hole can be descalarized after a quench of sufficient strength. Interestingly, on the way to descalarization, the scalarized black hole behaves like a holographic superfluid, undergoing a dynamical transition from oscillatory to non-oscillatory decay. Such behaviors are related to the spectrums of quasi-normal modes of scalarized black holes, where the dominant mode migrates toward the imaginary axis with increasing quench strength. In addition, due to the $\mathbb Z_{2}$-symmetry preserved by the model, the ground state is degenerate. We find that there exists a threshold for the quench strength that induces a dynamical transition of the gravitational system from one degenerate ground state to the other. Near the threshold, the gravitational system is attracted to an excited state, that is, a RN-AdS black hole with dynamical instability.
