Since the recent discovery of Samba virus, the first representative of the family Mimiviridae from Brazil, prospecting for mimiviruses has been conducted in different environmental conditions in Brazil. Recently, we isolated using Acanthamoeba sp. three new mimiviruses, all of lineage A of amoebal mimiviruses: Kroon virus from urban lake water, Amazonia virus from the Brazilian Amazon river, and Oyster virus from farmed oysters. The aims of this work were to sequence and analyze the genome of these new Brazilian mimiviruses (mimi-BR) and update the analysis of the Samba virus genome. The genomes of Samba virus, Amazonia virus and Oyster virus were 97%–99% similar, whereas Kroon virus had a low similarity (90%–91%) with other mimi-BR. A total of 3877 proteins encoded by mimi-BR were grouped into 974 orthologous clusters. In addition, we identified three new ORFans in the Kroon virus genome. Additional work is needed to expand our knowledge of the diversity of mimiviruses from Brazil, including if and why among amoebal mimiviruses those of lineage A predominate in the Brazilian environment.

O artigo procura analisar as práticas de benzimento de três mulheres no interior do município de Campos Novos/SC e, com isso, através da etnografia e de seu cotidiano, compreender suas memórias, os usos do passado no presente, o significado do rito ontem e hoje, juntamente com as ações e práticas que se descortinam entre o profano e o sagrado, entre o simbólico e a fé, para um entendimento dos saberes do benzimento que transcorrem ao longo de suas experiências com o benzimento.

This study aimed to evaluate whether pre-emptive analgesia modifies the tissue expression of tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), and whether there is an association with postoperative surgical outcomes. A triple-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study of patients undergoing mandibular third molar removal was performed. Volunteers were allocated randomly to receive etoricoxib 120 mg, ibuprofen 400 mg, or placebo 1 h before surgery. Twenty-four surgical sites per group were required (95% confidence level and 80% statistical power). Pain scores differed significantly between groups (P < 0.001). Etoricoxib and ibuprofen reduced pain scores compared to placebo (P < 0.05). Pain scores peaked at 4 h postoperative in the experimental groups, but at 2 h postoperative in the placebo group (P < 0.05). A significant reduction in TNF-α concentration from time 0′ to time 30′ was seen for ibuprofen (P = 0.001) and etoricoxib (P = 0.016). The ibuprofen group showed a significant reduction in IL-1β levels from time 0′ to time 30′ (P = 0.038). In conclusion, TNF-α and IL-1β levels and the inflammatory events in third molar surgery were inversely associated with the degree of cyclooxygenase 2 selectivity of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used pre-emptively. Patients given pre-emptive analgesia showed significant reductions in the clinical parameters pain, trismus, and oedema when compared to the placebo group.

RESUMO: Relata-se um caso de Tuberculose monorresistente, em uma mulher de 50 anos portadora da síndrome da imunodeficiência adquirida (SIDA), cujo tratamento iniciou com o esquema básico em uma unidade de saúde da família. Tal estudo teve como objetivo a realização de uma análise comparativa entre as informações disponíveis na literatura acerca do Tratamento para Tuberculose Monorresistente e o tratamento ofertado ao paciente. Realizou-se resgate de prontuário do paciente acompanhado no Ambulatório de Tuberculose Multirresistente. A correta condução do caso juntamente com o uso correto das drogas escolhidas para o tratamento, aprimora a estratégia de cura para a tuberculose em tempo hábil.

A tuberculose é uma doença infecto-contagiosa, causada por um microorganismo denominado Mycobacterium tuberculosis, também denominado de bacilo de Koch (BK). Apresentando evolução em ciclos lentos e de maior incidência nas aglomerações urbanas, transmitida através do ar, por meio de gotículas contendo os bacilos expelidos pelo doente ao tossir, espirrar ou falar em voz alta. É uma doença curável. Este relato tem como objetivo a realização de uma análise comparativa entre as informações disponíveis na literatura acerca da Tuberculose e Etilismo frente aos sinais e sintomas encontrados no paciente em estudo, descrever os cuidados de enfermagem e a evolução clínica esperada do referido paciente. Realizou-se acompanhamento do paciente durante o período de internação, 01 a 15 de setembro de 2014, em um serviço hospitalar de nível terciário da Região Metropolitana do Recife. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de entrevista, resgate histórico da avaliação do serviço social, exame fisco e análise do prontuário contextualizando e agrupando informações a fim de proporcionar lista de cuidados de enfermagem. Os cuidados prestados pela equipe de enfermagem do setor de Tisiologia com a colaboração dos Residentes de Enfermagem em Pneumologia obteve como resultado a melhora substancial promovendo a alta hospitalar do paciente após três meses de internamento.

Lymphoepithelial cyst is a rare lesion of the oral cavity, with the mouth floor being the most common site of occurrence. The therapeutic approach of choice is the surgical treatment, which has rare cases of postoperative complications. The aim of this study is to report the case of a 53-year-old patient who came to Dental Service in the Federal University of Ceará complaining of a small nodular lesion (0.5 cm) located in the ventral tongue. Excisional biopsy was performed and the surgical specimen was submitted for anatomopathological analysis, which found that there was an oral lymphoepithelial cyst. The patient returned after seven days for suture removal and reported loss of sensitivity around the ventral tongue. We prescribed Citoneurin for ten days; however, there was not any significant improvement of the sensitivity. Low frequency laser therapy sessions were applied. The only postoperative symptom was dysesthesia, where there is only a sensitivity decrease. Currently, the patient has a postoperative period of 1 year without recurrence of the lesion. Although previous reports have no described tongue sensorineural disorders associated with this lesion, the occurrence of this event may be related to an unexpected anatomical variation of the lingual nerve.

International audience; BackgroundThe identification of novel giant viruses from the nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses group and their virophages has increased in the last decade and has helped to shed light on viral evolution. This study describe the discovery, isolation and characterization of Samba virus (SMBV), a novel giant virus belonging to the Mimivirus genus, which was isolated from the Negro River in the Brazilian Amazon. We also report the isolation of an SMBV-associated virophage named Rio Negro (RNV), which is the first Mimivirus virophage to be isolated in the Americas.Methods/resultsBased on a phylogenetic analysis, SMBV belongs to group A of the putative Megavirales order, possibly a new virus related to Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus (APMV). SMBV is the largest virus isolated in Brazil, with an average particle diameter about 574 nm. The SMBV genome contains 938 ORFs, of which nine are ORFans. The 1,213.6 kb SMBV genome is one of the largest genome of any group A Mimivirus described to date. Electron microscopy showed RNV particle accumulation near SMBV and APMV factories resulting in the production of defective SMBV and APMV particles and decreasing the infectivity of these two viruses by several logs.ConclusionThis discovery expands our knowledge of Mimiviridae evolution and ecology.

O processo de trabalho é compreendido como o fazer, isto é, o pôr em prática. Sendo o processo de trabalho em saúde um enumerado de atividades, que o profissional sozinho ou juntamente com a equipe realizam atividades de cunho social, esse trabalho pode ser físico, intelectual, ou ainda a junção das duas para mudar ou transformar algo ou alguma coisa. Desta forma, este estudo teve como objetivo Realizar uma revisão da literatura sobre processo do trabalho em saúde na atenção primária. O presente estudo trata-se de revisão da literatura que seguiu as seguintes etapas: escolha do tema, pesquisa de artigos publicados em periódicos científicos nacionais e bibliotecas eletrônicas disponíveis na Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), e (Dedalus), elaboração do plano de trabalho, elaboração do texto, para tanto levou-se em consideração o Código de Ética dos Profissionais de Enfermagem. O trabalho em saúde está concomitantemente relacionado ao trabalho em equipe, pois o mesmo exige das pessoas um trabalho coletivo e para desenvolverem juntos um trabalho profissional, todos da equipe necessitam relacionar-se e para, a partir daí desenvolverem projetos para um bom atendimento. Portanto, a organização do processo de trabalho em saúde na atenção primária deve promover suficientemente o vínculo e responsabilização com o usuário dos serviços, favorecendo a busca de atendimento quando necessário.

This work aimed to evaluate the impacts of the fire on the regenerant stratum in a fragment of Atlantic forest, in Areia municipality, PB. It was plotted 40 parcels in two environments: intact forest (Environment I) and burned forest (Environment II). The structure of the vegetation was evaluated through usual parameters to natural regeneration and the difference in the number of tillers of the individuals between Environments was analyzed by KW test. The individuals were grouped in four high classes and it was calculated the index of Shannon diversity and equability of Pielou. It was surveyed 7.270 individuals belonging to 23 families, 28 genera and 45 species. In the Environment I, Protium heptaphyllum represented 38,56% of the abundance, while in the Environment II, Myrcia sp. and the dead individuals represented 73,77% of the sample. The KW test reveals significant differences between environments, specially in number of stems. The index of diversity and the equability in the Environment I were bigger than in the burned environment. The results demonstrated that the fire modified the floristic composition, affected the structure of the community, and increased significantly the tillering, indicating the death of the aerial part of many individuals., O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os impactos causados pelo fogo sobre o estrato regenerante de um fragmento de floresta atlântica, em Areia, PB. Foram plotadas 40 parcelas em dois ambientes: floresta intacta (Ambiente I) e floresta queimada (Ambiente II). A estrutura da vegetação foi avaliada através dos parâmetros usuais para regeneração natural e a diferença no número de perfilhos dos indivíduos entre os ambientes foi avaliada pelo teste KW. Os indivíduos foram ainda enquadrados em quatro classes de tamanho. Foram calculados, também, os índices de diversidade Shannon e de equabilidade de Pielou. Foram amostrados 7.270 indivíduos, pertencentes a 23 famílias, 27 gêneros e 41 espécies. No Ambiente I, Protium heptaphyllum foi responsável por 38,56% da abundância, enquanto no Ambiente II, Myrcia sp. representou 54,82% da amostra. O teste KW demonstrou que houve diferença significativa entre os ambientes quanto ao número de perfilhos. O índice de diversidade e a equabilidade no Ambiente I foram maiores que no atingido pelo incêndio. Os resultados demonstraram que o incêndio não modificou a composição específica da sinúsia queimada, porém afetou a estrutura da comunidade, além de aumentar significativamente o perfilhamento, indicando a morte da parte aérea de muitos indivíduos.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impacts of fire on the tree-shrub component in an ombrophilous forest fragment in Areia, state of Paraíba, Brazil. Forty parcels were plotted in two environments: intact forest (Environment I) and burned forest (Environment II). The vegetation structure was evaluated by conventional parameters, and the difference in the number of shoots of individuals between the environments was evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Also calculated were the index of diversity, equability and the similarity between the environments. We sampled 1,960 individuals, belonging to 22 families, 26 genera and 35 species. In Environment I, Protium heptaphyllum, Cupania oblongifolia and Brosimum guianense were the most important and abundant species, while the dead individuals were the majority in Environment II. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed there were significant differences between the intact and burned environments. The indices of diversity and the equability of Environment I were greater than those found in Environment II. Nevertheless, the two environments remain similar according to the Jaccard index. The results showed that fire does not appear to change the composition of species; however, it affected the structure of the community, and increased significantly the number of shoots, indicating the death of the canopy in several individuals O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar os impactos causados pelo fogo sobre o estrato arbustivo-arbóreo de um fragmento de Floresta Atlântica, em Areia, Paraíba. Foram plotadas 40 parcelas de 100 m2 em dois ambientes: floresta intacta (Ambiente I) e floresta queimada (Ambiente II). O presente levantamento incluiu indivíduos com diâmetro ao nível do solo (DNS) ≥ 3 cm, sendo a estrutura da vegetação avaliada por parâmetros convencionais. Calcularam-se, também, os índices de diversidade e de equabilidade, além da similaridade entre os ambientes. Foram amostrados 1.960 indivíduos, pertencentes a 22 famílias, 26 gêneros e 35 espécies. No Ambiente I, Protium heptaphyllum foi a espécie mais abundante e importante; no Ambiente II, sobressaíram-se os indivíduos mortos. O teste Kruskal-Wallis (H) analisou a diferença no número de perfilhos dos indivíduos entre os Ambientes, apontando diferença significativa entre estes. O índice de diversidade e a equabilidade no Ambiente I foram maiores que no atingido pelo incêndio; pelo índice de Jaccard, porém, verificou-se que continuam similares. Os resultados demonstraram que o incêndio parece não modificar a composição específica da sinúsia, mas afeta a estrutura da comunidade, além de aumentar significativamente o perfilhamento, indicando a morte da parte aérea de muitos indivíduos
