Background: The prosthodontic management of the edentulous patient has always been a major challenge to prosthodontists. Patients wearing conventional complete dentures often complain about the instability and dissatisfaction especially with lower dentures. Implant retained over dentures help to solve this instability problem. Masticatory efficiency and biting force is a major indicator of functional state of masticatory system and its measurement is an important parameter during treatment planning. Materials and Method: This study involves the use of miniature load cell to determine the maximum biting force and color changing chewing gum to evaluate masticatory efficiency in 20 edentulous patients wearing conventional complete dentures and comparing it with implant over dentures retained ball and bar retained over dentures. Paired t-test and Anova test were applied to statistically evaluate the data. Results: Indicated that patients with bar retained implant over dentures demonstrated significant levels of masticatory biting force and masticatory efficiency as compared with ball retained over dentures and ball retained over dentures showed better results upon conventional complete dentures. Purpose: To assess the knowledge, attitude, behavioural response and use of preventive measures regarding a pandemic H1N1 influenza outbreak among dental students.Materials and Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a total of 448 dental students (118 in preclinical categories, 330 in clinical categories) were surveyed using a self-administered, structured questionnaire pretested through a pilot survey.Results: Out of 448 dental students, 92.6% had heard about swine flu, whereas only 64.3% of them knew about the H1N1 virus. More than 50% of dental students showed a positive response towards swine flu attitude, and pandemic H1N1 influenza modified the behaviour of dental students. Respondents rated hand washing and face masks as the most effective measures for the prevention of pandemic influenza.Conclusion: Half of the dental students had enough information and showed a positive attitude towards a H1N1 pandemic influenza outbreak. Purpose: To assess the oral hygiene and periodontal status and analyse the influence of age, education, institutionalization, type of visit and oral health behaviour on oral hygiene and periodontal status among detainees in juvenile detention center in Udaipur city, Rajasthan, India.Materials and Methods: The total sample comprised 223 subjects (67.7% male and 32.3% female) aged 6 to 18 years. Clinical examination included assessment of oral hygiene and periodontal status using OHI-S (Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified) and CPI (Community Periodontal Index), respectively. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), chi-square, Student t-test and stepwise multiple linear and multiple logistic regression analysis were carried out to find the relation between oral hygiene/ periodontal status and different independent variables.Results: The results showed that the oral hygiene status of detainees was poor, with only 28.1% of the subjects having good oral hygiene. Mean OHI-S scores were significantly associated with all independent variables. Overall periodontal disease prevalence was 80.2% with bleeding and calculus contributing a major part (71.9%). Stepwise multiple linear and logistic regression analysis revealed that oral hygiene practice and type of visit in the detention center were the best predictors for the oral hygiene index, and for periodontal disease it was oral hygiene practice alone.Conclusion: The findings confirmed that detainees in the juvenile detention center have poor oral hygiene and an increased prevalence of periodontal disease compared to that of similarly ages in the general population. The present study is aimed at obtaining in vitro dose-response data for the induction of micronucleus (MN) and nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs) in human lymphocytes using 60Co-gamma rays and 8 MeV pulsed electron beam. An attempt was made to validate the possibility of applying NPBs as new biodosimetry endpoint in the dose range of 0-6 Gy. A total of 1000 binucleated cells (BNCs) per dose point were evaluated for the frequency of MN and NPBs. From the study, it is clear that the dose-response increase of MN and NPBs is linear quadratic in nature. The study provides linear and quadratic parameter for biodosimetry application. The relative biological effectiveness value of the 8 MeV electron beam was estimated using slope values and is found to be 1.18 ± 0.01 for MN/BNCs, 1.27 ± 0.02 for the fraction of BNCs with MN, 1.16 ± 0.13 for MN/(BNCs with MN) and 1.09 ± 0.01 for NPBs. Introduction: Diet and nutrition plays an important role in signifying the health of an individual. Oral health is the most important aspect of the body when it comes to food intake and its health benefits. It is important for the nutrition/dietetics students to be aware of the health modalities related to oral aspect. Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess knowledge towards the effect of diet and nutrition on oral health among nutrition/dietetics students of Udaipur city, Rajasthan, India. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among all the nutrition and dietetics students of Udaipur city. A self-administered, pretested 14 item questionnaire was given to 180 students to assess their knowledge about dietary factors related to caries, anticariogenic foods, frequency and duration of sugar intake etc. One-way analysis of variance and independent sample t-test were utilized for statistical analysis. Confidence level and level of significance were set at 95% and 5%, respectively. Results: The mean score for knowledge was 28.92±1.72. Mean knowledge scores for III, II and I year students were 29.91±1.94, 29.56±1.27 and 27.30±1.66 respectively. When post-hoc Bonferroni test was applied, mean knowledge score was found to be at a higher end among III year as compared to I year (p=0.03) students. Conclusion: This study highlights about low dental nutrition knowledge among nutrition/dietetics students. Health professionals should have more information outside their immediate fields. Introduction: Provision of oral health knowledge to the children by their teachers at the school level can prove to be more fruitful because it is the time period during which the children begin to learn the basic oral hygiene practices and are most prone to dental caries. Aim: This study was carried out to assess the effect of training school teachers on oral hygiene status of 8-10 years old government school children of Udaipur city, India. Materials and Methods: A total of nine school teachers and 279, 8-10 year old school children from two government schools were included in the study. The questionnaire on oral health knowledge and practice contained 17 questions to evaluate the knowledge and practice of children towards oral hygiene before and after the teachers training program. Baseline and six months post training data on oral health knowledge and practice was obtained by the questionnaire method. Baseline and six months post training data on oral hygiene status was obtained by OHI-S Index. Statistical analysis was done using software SPSS 22, the test used were McNemar's test, paired t-test. Results: Pre and post training data were compared and it was found that there was a significant improvement in oral health knowledge and practices of school teachers and children. Also oral hygiene status of school children was significantly improved after the program. Conclusion: Results of the present study suggest that experiential learning is an effective school based oral health education method for improvement of oral hygiene in primary school children. Introduction: Endemic fluorosis resulting from high fluoride concentration in groundwater is a major public health problem. India is among the numerous nations, where fluoride sullied groundwater is creating wellbeing issues. Safe drinking water in rural areas of India is predominantly rely on groundwater sources, which are exceptionally contaminated with fluoride. Aim: To investigate the association of temporomandibular joint Signs & Symptoms with Dental Fluorosis & Skeletal Manifestations among people living in Dad, Bokersal & Deotalab villages of Dungarpur District, Rajasthan, India. Materials and Methods: The study group consisted of 750 subjects who were born & brought up in Dad, Bokersal & Deotalab villages of Dungarpur District, Rajasthan. Temporomandibular joint & Dental fluorosis was assessed by performing type III clinical examination according to WHO guidelines (1997). For the assessment of skeletal manifestations, participants were asked to perform three diagnostic tests: (1) Touching the toes without bending the knees; (2) Touching the chest with the chin; (3) Stretching the arms sideways & folding the arms to touch the back of the head. Chi Square test & Multiple Logistic Regression were applied for statistical analysis. results: Among the 750 (462 males & 288 females) who participated in the study, 53% had moderate grade of dental fluorosis. The most prominent symptom suggesting Temporomandibular Joint Disorder was the clicking sound affecting 21.4% population.(p>0.001). TMJ Signs & Symptoms were prominent in the age group of 45-54 years & males were highly affected than females. conclusion: Clinical examination of TMJ in Dental Fluorosis & Skeletal Fluorosis subjects showed a significant association with Dental Fluorosis & Skeletal Fluorosis.
