Waterlandbouw biedt vele kansen en mogelijkheden, zo kunt u lezen in dit biocahier. Despite its pervasive reputation as a place of religious extremes and war, Afghanistan has a complex and varied religious landscape where elements from a broad spectrum of religious belief vie for a place in society. It is also one of the birthplaces of a widely practiced variant of Islam: Sufism. Contemporary analysts suggest that Sufism is on the decline due to war and the ideological hardening that results from societies in conflict. However, in Sufi Civilities, Annika Schmeding argues that this is far from a truthful depiction. Members of Sufi communities have worked as resistance fighters, aid workers, business people, actors, professors, and daily workers in creative and ingenious ways to keep and renew their networks of community support. Based on long-term ethnographic field research among multiple Sufi communities in different urban areas of Afghanistan, the book examines navigational strategies employed by Sufi leaders over the past four decades to weather periods of instability and persecution, showing how they adapted to changing conditions in novel ways that crafted Sufism as a force in the civil sphere. This book offers a rare on-the-ground view into how Sufi leaders react to moments of transition within a highly insecure environment, and how humanity shines through the darkness during times of turmoil.

A lot of children's books about plastic pollution and its effect on the environment have been published. Yet, few of them present the opportunities and solutions for valorizing plastics within the framework of a Circular Economy model.We chose to write this book to demystify the complexity of plastic circularity and to advocate that the problem is not only with the material itself but also with our failure to use it and manage it responsibly. We present, through simple stories, the current research being done in this field to come up with solutions. We believe that children are the architects of the future, and we wrote this book for them, to plant a seed of awareness on how we use and consume the resources of our planet, and how we can improve our practices to use these resources more sustainably. These stories are for our children to have a better tomorrow. We will have succeeded if we can leave them a world better than ours, and hopefully, they will pass it on even better to the next generation. Perhaps a child who is reading this book today will become tomorrow's product designer, engineer, or environmental activist.

Terwijl Nederland nog steeds worstelt met de vraag hoe ernstig en wijdverbreid het geweld in de Indonesische onafhankelijkheidsoorlog was, is die geschiedenis overal in Indonesië terug te vinden. Monumenten en grafvelden zijn de stille getuigen van de strijd en de verhalen van de oorlog doen er nog steeds de ronde. Remco Raben en Peter Romijn betogen in 'Talen van geweld' dat de manier waarop in Nederland lang naar de oorlog in Indonesië is gekeken zijn oorsprong heeft in de taal en de manipulatie van informatie tijdens die oorlog. Zij onderzoeken de mentaliteit van bestuur en politiek in Indonesië en Nederland en traceren de weg die de kennis over het geweld heeft afgelegd, van de dorpen en velden in Indonesië tot aan de bureaus van bestuurders, politici en journalisten in Nederland. In recent years the development of historical databases reconstructing the lives of large populations accelerated. These considerable investments of time and money have greatly expanded possibilities for new research in history, demography, sociology, economics, and other disciplines. This special issue describes the content and design of 23 important historical databases. Authors were given the freedom to discuss a range of practical and technical decisions from evaluating archival sources to crowdsourcing data entry. The most common issue is nominative record linkage, but we find different choices between semi-automatic and fully automatic linkage techniques and various approaches for connecting diverse sources. Some databases describe special problems, like linking Chinese names, handwritten text recognition or the construction of a release in IDS-format. Other databases offer detailed descriptions of sources or discuss prospects for including new datasets.

This study describes certain aspects of the Moroccan Dutch youth variety in Gouda (the Netherlands). It adopts a critical approach with regard to youth language using current sociolinguistic concepts and tools. This study contains two parts. The first part is largely focused on methods and metalinguistic analysis, the second part is the description of the linguistic data which is subdivided in a phonetic part and a morphosyntactic part. This a fieldwork-based study which includes material based on a number of interviews with Moroccan Dutch teenagers. While the amount of fieldwork was sufficient for the initial goal of the study, namely a description of the phonetics, for it to dig deeper and uncover linguistic usage and ideology, metalinguistic data was collected as well. These data were used to uncover information, not only about language practice, but also about tribal origins, cultural stereotypes and heritage language use. Interethnic language practices, accent and code switching are included as well. The second part deals with the salient segmental phonetics, beginning with the consonants and ending with the vowels. Possible substrate influence, mainly based on Tarifiyt Berber, and intergenerational and interethnic differences are sketched as well. In the final part some conspicuous morphosyntactic phenomena are touched upon, such as grammatical gender and the genitive. To conclude, this study aims to provide an insight from a sociolinguistic perspective into Gouda Moroccan Dutch language practice, form and ideology. That is, it describes social interaction and linguistic practice from a multifocal and dynamic viewpoint.

The History of Work: A New History of Humankind. Polish translation by Tomasz S. Markiewka

Over the last 60 years several major historical databases with reconstructed life courses of large populations spanning decades have been launched. The development of these databases is indicative of considerable investments that have greatly expanded the possibilities for new research within the fields of history, demography, sociology, as well as other disciplines. In this volume spanning seven articles, eight databases are included that have had a wide impact on research in various disciplines. Each database had its own unique genesis that is well described in the articles assembled in this volume. They inform readers about how these databases have changed the course of research in historical demography and related disciplines, how settled findings were challenged or confirmed, and how innovative investigations were launched and implemented. In the end we explore how research with this kind of databases will develop in future.
