Bronchial chondromas are usually treated by thoracotomy and resection of a lung segment or lung lobe. This case report describes the endobronchial resection of a bronchial chondroma by flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy in a 61-year-old man.

The diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the skeleton of the hand are reviewed. Benign enchondromas were found to be the most common. Primary osteogenetic sarcoma was rare as was malignant degeneration in initially benign tumors and in the bony manifestations of systemic disease such as neurofibromatosis or hyperparathyroidism. Tumors were more common in phalanges and metacarpals than in the carpus and showed their highest incidence in the 4th decade. Diagnosis was aided by angiography and bone-scanning. Some difficulties were encountered in pathological examination. Treatment involved curettage and cancellous grafting in small tumors, en bloc resection followed by osteosynthetic stabilisation in larger instances and radical ablation followed by chemotherapy in malignancy.

A case of osteochondroma of the mandibular condyle has been presented. The facial and occlusal deformities produced by the tumor are described. After the surgical treatment and concomitant orthodontic treatment, satisfactory occlusion and facial contour were established.

A new case of a chondroma of the larynx is reported discussing the diagnosis and its treatment. Also a brief review of the literature is presented. Scattered calcification observed by CT is considered as a pathognomic finding. Finally, biopsy is the only method for establishing the positive diagnosis.

The article reports on seven patients with a histologically established chondromatosis of the joints. The aetiology, diagnosis, pathologico-anatomic findings and treatment of this rare joint disease are discussed. The case history of a patient serves to illustrate how a benign chondromatosis can undergo malignant degeneration.

Currently, determining whether a cartilage tumor is benign or malignant is a challenge. This article explains the available diagnostic tools and the tumor characteristics used to make such judgements. Treatment of chondrosarcoma is also discussed.

Solitary vertebral osteochondromas with spinal cord compression are very rare. Here we report a case of an osteochondroma of the 5th cervical vertebra protruding into the spinal canal. The therapeutic approach is discussed in relation to the natural evolution and the favourable prognosis of these lesions. The usefullness of the C.T. scan is shown both in diagnosis and post-operative follow-up.

Carney's triad--gastric leiomyosarcoma, pulmonary chondroma, and extra-adrenal paraganglioma--is a syndrome that occurs primarily in young women. To date, 28 patients with at least two of these individually unusual or rare neoplasms have been described. This updated case report of one of the originally described patients with Carney's triad highlights several clinically important features of this unusual syndrome: (1) the multicentricity of both the paragangliomas and the epithelioid leiomyosarcomas, (2) the often indolent progression of metastatic leiomyosarcoma, (3) the potential for late recurrences, and (4) the importance of distinguishing intra-adrenal from periadrenal catecholamine-producing tumors (paragangliomas). Localization of paragangliomas is facilitated by two relatively new techniques--131I-metaiodobenzylguanidine scanning (a scintigraphic technique with high specificity for catecholamine-producing tumors) and two-dimensional echocardiography (which can noninvasively localize and demonstrate the anatomic relationships of aorticopulmonary paragangliomas). In patients with this syndrome, new or recurrent tumors frequently manifest after unusually long asymptomatic intervals. We outline an approach for continued follow-up of patients with one or more of the three neoplasms that constitute the syndrome. Rigorous long-term screening of these patients should not only lead to early recognition and resection of recurrent or new tumors but also enhance our understanding of this intriguing syndrome.

A case of chondromyxoid fibroma of the anterior maxilla is presented. The light and electron microscopic appearances of this tumor are described. A review of chondromyxoid fibromas of the jaws is performed, with a discussion of the appropriate therapy.
