This paper analyses practical procedures for the virtual recognition of CHP (Combined Heat and Power) and non-CHP parts of the plant, and for determining their efficiencies and other parameters required by the regulator. The division of the plant into CHP and non-CHP parts is done on the basis of standard measurements carried out in practice, and the correct thermodynamic energy balance. The Energy efficiency of the CHP part is equal to a pre-set value and that of the non-CHP part is lower than this value. Instead of the Primary Energy Saving (PES) indicator, which compares the efficiency of a CHP plant with a classical plant for the production of heat energy and electricity, here we are analyzing a method that recognizes only the part of the CHP plant that fulfills the preset value of high-efficiency cogeneration. This value is prescribed by the national regulator and depends on the type and age of the plant, operating conditions, etc. Practical calculation procedures rely primarily on rules that are used in the EU (European Union). The impact of a changeable practical operating mode and the sensitivity of the referred efficiency to the attractiveness of cogeneration is particularly evaluated.

Insgesamt bestatigt die Analyse der Auswirkungen der Digitalisierung auf die Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters, dass das Phanomen nicht nur auserordentlich breit alle Wertschopfungskomponenten (Unternehmenskernlogik, Wertschopfungsaktivitaten und Ressourcen) tangiert, sondern auch konkret die tagliche Arbeit der Messeveranstalter erheblich beeinflusst. Diese Erkenntnis wird in der Diskussion der Ergebnisse und Betrachtung der Management-Implikationen untermauert.

Nun da die Wertschopfungsstruktur eines Messeveranstalters umfassend dargelegt ist, bedarf es der systematisierten Erfassung des Phanomens Digitalisierung, um im Folgeschritt dessen Auswirkungen auf die Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters untersuchen zu konnen.

Die systematische Strukturierung und Modellierung der Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters in einem abstrahierten Konstrukt dient dem Zweck, eine eingehende Analyse des Einflusses der Digitalisierung auf die Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters vorzunehmen. Aus einer Reihe verschiedener Ansatze zur Untersuchung der Wertschopfung in Unternehmen wird speziell der Geschaftsmodell-Ansatz gewahlt, um die Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters zu erlautern.

Die Analyse des Digitalisierungsphanomens untermauert anhand der identifizierten Erscheinungsformen und deren Wirkungskreis die Erwartung, dass die Digitalisierung auch signifikanten Einfluss auf die Wertschopfung eines Messeveranstalters nimmt. Durch Anwendung der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse auf das Geschaftsmodell eines Messeveranstalters wird nun konkret untersucht, inwieweit sich diese Erwartung im Einzelnen anhand der Wertschopfungsbereiche und Geschaftsmodellkomponenten bestatigt.

What makes a revolution possible? The text understands this as the question for the subject that is able to make a revolution. Any attempt to answer this question is faced with an aporia: The subject of the revolution can neither be identified with its historically produced social form, nor can it be the subject “as such,” as the power of negativity prior to history and society. The article suggests to find a way out of this aporia in the idea of a transcendental turn of subjectivity: The revolution is the transcendental usage of the subject’s historically acquired and socially formed capacities. The possibility of the revolution lies in the revolutionizing of possibilities (as abilities).

Die Bildtheorie hat sich jungst dem Begriff der Form zugewandt. Der interdisziplinare Band verfolgt das Ziel, den vielfaltigen Zusammenhangen von Form und Bild nachzugehen und ihre historischen, theoretischen und methodischen Voraussetzungen zu beleuchten. Das semantische Feld von Formbildung und Formbegriff umreist einen Gegenstandsbereich, der eine doppelte Herangehensweise nahelegt: eine Untersuchung der theoretischen Implikationen von Formbegriffen der Moderne einerseits und eine historische Analyse spezifischer kunstlerischer Positionen andererseits. Hat doch die Bildung konkreter Formen Auswirkungen auf deren begriffliche Reflexion. Der Terminus 'Form' bedeutet ebenso emphatisch Grundform, auf das Wesentliche reduzierte Form, wie er die konkrete anschauliche Form in ihrer Gewordenheit, sinnlichen Fulle und Einbettung in kulturelle und kommunikative Zusammenhange meint.

Various global optimization methods are available for the automatic design of optical systems. However, these methods are not specifically tailored at freeform systems with a large number of variables. This paper presents a novel method for the automatic design of optical systems which is based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). PSO was originally introduced in 1995 to model the interaction of individuals in a swarm or a flock of birds. The optimization of a problem is performed by iteratively improving a candidate solution with regard to a specific merit function. A collection of candidate solutions, called particles, move around in the search space according to simple mathematical rules. The movement of each particle is influenced by its local best known position and by the best known positions found by other particles. Repeating this process is expected to guide the swarm to the best solutions. Important aspects of PSO are the communication of the particles with each other and the ability to learn from the experience of the swarm. A PSO algorithm has been implemented in a custom optical design software. In the application to optical design, each particle represents an optical system in the multi-dimensional parameter space. The merit function is a measure for the quality of the optical system. The application of PSO is demonstrated through several examples with and without freeform elements. The results prove that the proposed method is an excellent tool for the optimization of freeform systems with a large number of variables.

Das Rechtssystem geht davon aus, dass der Mensch – und nur der Mensch – eine natürliche Person ist. Das sei ein Irrtum, argumentiert Malte-Christian Gruber, denn die Rechtssubjektivität wird keineswegs alleine mit dem bloßen Menschsein begründet. Es ist die sittliche Autonomie, die den Menschen zu einem »Subjekt, dessen Handlungen einer Zurechnung fähig sind« (Kant) und mithin zur Person macht. Personen werden nicht mit dem Menschsein als solchem identifiziert, sondern durch die Zuschreibung von Handlungs- und Rechtsträgerschaft. Eine solche funktionale Vorstellung von Rechtssubjektivität ist prinzipiell auch dazu imstande, neben Menschen noch weitere autonome Agenten als Träger von Rechten und Pflichten ein- zusetzen, z.B. technische Artefakte und andere nicht-menschliche Agenten. Christoph Menke macht dagegen darauf aufmerksam, dass die Erfindung neuer Rechte das eigentliche Bewegungsgesetz der politischen Emanzipation in der Moderne war. Das begann mit den bürgerlichen Revolutionen und ist immer noch das generelle Modell, mit dem Politik und Theorie operieren, die neue Rechte für nicht-menschliche Lebewesen und Artefakte einfordern. So wie im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert die rechtliche Emanzipation zunächst über die Grenzen bürgerlicher Subjektivität hinausgeführt hat und soziale und kulturelle Rechte erfand, so sollen wir nun den weiteren, konsequenten Schritt tun und auch noch die Bindung der juridischen Anerkennung an die Kategorie menschlicher Subjektivität aufbrechen. Auch Bio- und Artefakte sollen als eigenständige Rechtssubjekte rekonstruiert werden. Es fehlt ihnen allerdings etwas, das in den emanzipatorischen Kämpfen der Vergangenheit schlechthin grundlegend war: Ein Träger von Rechten zu sein, hieß, ein Fordernder von Rechten, ja, ein Kämpfer für Rechte gewesen zu sein. Man konnte keine rechtliche Person als Träger von Rechten sein, ohne ein politisches Subjekt als Kämpfer und Denker von Rechten gewesen zu sein. Wenn die Bindung der rechtlichen Personalität an die menschliche Subjektivität aufgelöst wird, damit es Bio- und Artefakt-Rechte geben kann, löst sich zugleich auch diese Einheit von rechtlicher Personalität und politischer Subjektivität auf, die die moderne Idee der Rechte definiert hatte., The legal system assumes that human beings – and only human beings – are natural persons. That is erroneous, argues Malte-Christian Gruber, because legal subjectivity isn’t founded in humanity alone. It is moral autonomy that makes man into a “subject whose actions are capable of attribution” (Kant) and thus into a person. Personhood is not identified with being human as such, but by the attribution of actions and legal ownership. Besides human beings, such a functional concept of legal subjectivity can in principle also be applied to other autonomous agents as holder of rights and obligations, e.g. techno- logical artifacts and other non-human agents. Christoph Menke in turn points out that the invention of new rights was the actual law of motion of political emancipation in modern times. This began with the bourgeois revolutions and is still the general model with which politics and theory operate to claim new rights for non-human creatures and artifacts. Just as in the 19th and 20th centuries, the legal emancipation initially led beyond the limits of bourgeois subjectivity and in- vented social and cultural rights, so should we make a further consequent step and break with the dependence of juridical recognition on the category of human subjectivity. Also bio- and artifacts are to be reconstructed as independent legal entities. However, they lack something that was absolutely fundamental in the emancipatory struggles of the past: to be a subject of rights meant to have demanded rights, indeed, to have been a fighter for rights. One could not be a legal person and holder of rights without having been a political subject as fighter and thinker of rights. To suspend the dependence of legal personhood on human subjectivity so that there may be bio- and artifact-rights also means to dissolve the unity between legal personality and political subjectivity that once defined the modern idea of rights.

Das Konzept der Negation ist der zentrale Operator bei der Unterscheidung zwischen historischem Wandel und natürlicher Evolution, welche grundlegend für das moderne Denken ist. Die Krise dieser Abgrenzung ist somit auch eine »Krise der Negation« (AlainBadiou). Der vorliegende Text untersucht die Krise, indem er zuerst Hegels Konzept der »bestimmten Negation« und deren Auswirkungen auf das moderne Verständnis von Revolution beleuchtet und erörtert im Anschluss zwei mögliche Alternativen, wie Negation noch verstanden werden kann: als abstrakte Negation (Luhmann) und als endlose Negation (Agamben)., The concept of negation is the central operator in distinguishing between historical change and natural evolution, which is constitutive of modern thinking. The crisis of this distinction is therefore the »crisis of negation « (Alain Badiou). The text examines this crisis by first considering Hegel’s concept of »determinate negation« and its impact on the modern understanding of revolution and then discusses two possible alternative understandings of negation: abstract negation (Luhmann) and infinite negation (Agamben)

Hermann Pfutze und Christoph Menke stellen in dem Podiumsgesprach die Frage nach den widerstandigen Potentialen der Kunst. Was ist das Spezifische der Kunst gegenuber anderen sozialen Feldern oder Praxisformen? Was lasst sich unter Asthetischem Widerstand genau verstehen? Auch wenn die Kunst nicht uber Gewaltmittel verfugt, so konnte es doch einen Wettstreit um die Idee der Kunst geben. Asthetischer Widerstand ist dann der Widerstand einer Kunstform gegen eine andere (Menke). Oder ist die asthetische Erfahrung gerade nicht antagonistisch organisiert? Dann konnte Kunst als eine heilende Praxis erscheinen, die anderen Antagonismen (Kriegserlebnisse, Krisensituationen, Krankheit) entgegenwirkt und so Angst und Schrecken bannt (Pfutze). Nach Hermann Pfutze weist das Asthetische eine Nahe zur Demokratie auf, da Kunst wie Demokratie die Unabgeschlossenheit der Welt betonen und von Angst und Schrecken befreien wollen. Dieser an Judith Shklar gewonnene Demokratiebegriff ist fur Christoph Menke zu defensiv. Kunst scheint fur Menke in unserer Gegenwartsgesellschaft eher der spezifische Ort eines utopischen Potentials zu sein, denn die Kunst kritisiert durch ihren Versuch der Darstellung von Lebendigkeit unbelebte Praxisformen, wie etwa die entfremdete Arbeit.

The program of Marx’s social critique of law is to reveal the social logic of law, the structural nexus between its normative content and the basic forms of social domination. In this chapter, Menke sketches a critique of the social critique of law. He argues that the fundamental premises of Marx’s legal theory lead him to reduce bourgeois law to private law, neglecting the separate and equiprimordial formation of social law. His alternative proposal is a conception according to which the tension between private and social law is constitutive of the bourgeois legal formation. This conception allows us to understand the law in bourgeois society as not only the “different form” of social domination but also the object, medium, and scene of a struggle of antagonistic relations of power.

A familiar way of starting to think about art is to submit it to the standard form of philosophical investigation defi ned by the sequence of an existential statement followed by a question. The existential statement concerns a particular class of things. The question concerns what makes these things possible. Let us say preliminarily: the question concerns the potential whose actualization is to be understood as a thing of that particular kind. The form of this investigation is well known, for it has defi ned philosophy since Socrates. What is essential to this form is that the being and modeofbeing of things are not simply taken for granted; rather, they are questioned or “problematized.” In the light of this questioning, things seem neither selfevidently given nor miraculous but, in Aristotelian terms, “problematic.” They become something, in other words, that we want to, and can, understand or explain. In his critical review of Recht und Gewalt Andreas Fischer-Lescano has suggested that the critical insight into the paradoxical entwinement of law and violence should lead towards the utopian idea of a “transcendence” of law. The response to Fischer-Lescano rejects this idea as a false leveling of the - decisive normative - difference between law and society. This difference is the condition of possibility of law’s critical and hence transformative relation to society. The response thus defends the idea, brought forward in Recht und Gewalt by way of an interpretation of Benjamin’s formula of the Entsetzung of law, that the break with law’s fateful violence cannot consist in the “transcendence” but rather the “depotenciation” of law.

We review the motivations and intended benefits of orthogonalized representations of aspheric shapes and demonstrate unexpected gains for design purposes. Leaving aside improvements in ‘design for manufacturability’, we show that local optimization within standard design codes can find solutions with better optical performance when orthogonal descriptions are employed. Our examples include rotationally symmetric systems as well as systems with no global axis of symmetry and even a system of freeform surfaces (i.e., with no individual axes of symmetry).

This paper presents two case studies of performance improvement alternatives. The first one is the 52.5 MWe cogeneration plant at the Suvarnabhumi Airport, and the second is the 9.9 MWe cogeneration plant of the government office building complex. Both plants are located in Bangkok. Performance improvements assume changing system design and operational plans during on-peak and off-peak periods with applying chilled water storage for more flexible operation. Such analysis gives opportunity for improvement of plant efficiency, primary energy saving, emission reduction and economical benefits. In case study 1, the selection of new prime mover results in overall efficiency improvement from 48% to 61%, 24% increase of primary energy saving, and 27% improvement of CO2 emission reduction. Significant amount of primary energy is saved 1451 TJ/a and CO2 emission reduction is 129,271 tCO2/a. The profit is increased to 24.80 Million US$/a and the payback period is 4.77 years. In case study 2, the application of chilled water storage leads to maximum profit of 2.63 Million US$/a. The results show that the selection of plant components should be made very carefully in the design stage, as well as that permanent control and optimization of plant operation in the exploitation phase is essential. Economic aspects of cogeneration plants are more sensitive to changeable input parameters than classical separate heat and power generation since cogeneration plants are more complex in the aspects of process configuration and products costs/values (electricity, steam, hot water, and chilled water). Having in mind the future development of the natural gas distribution network in Thailand, it can be estimated that the potential of power generation in public buildings is around 1.3 GWe. Comparing the Thailand total primary energy supply for commercial buildings, it means reduction of about 9.1%.

The cement industry is one of the largest carbon dioxide (CO2) emitters in the Thai industry. The cement sector accounted for about 20,633 kilotonnes (ktonnes) CO2 emissions in 2005 in Thailand. A bottom-up CO2 abatement cost curve (ACC) is constructed in this study for the Thai cement industry to determine the potentials and costs of CO2 abatement, taking into account the costs and CO2 abatement of different technologies. The period of 2010–2025 is chosen as the scenario period. We analyzed 41 CO2 abatement technologies and measures for the cement industry. Using the bottom-up CO2 ACC model, the cost-effective annual CO2 abatement potential for the Thai cement industry during the 15 year scenario period (2010–2025) is equal to 3095 ktonnes CO2/year. This is about 15% of the Thai cement industry’s total CO2 emissions in 2005. The total technical annual CO2 abatement potential is 3143 ktonnes CO2/year, which is about 15.2% of the Thai cement industry’s total CO2 emissions in 2005. We also conducted a sensitivity analysis for the discount rate parameter.
