Objective: Investigation of deception within psychotherapy has recently gained attention. Micro expression training software has been suggested to improve deception detection and enhance emotion recognition. The current study examined the effects of micro expression training software on deception detection and emotion recognition. Method: The current study recruited 23 counseling psychology graduate students and 32 undergraduate students and randomly assigned them to either a training group or a control group. The training and control group received all the same materials and measures pre- and post-test, with the training group differing by receiving the micro expression training. Results: Findings revealed no significant difference in deception detection between the control group and training group. The training did reveal significant improvement for emotion recognition, specifically in contempt, anger, and fear. State and trait anxiety did not predict deception detection nor did it mediate emotion recognition. No significant difference was found between graduate trainees and undergraduate students. Conclusion: The use of the F.A.C.E. software was not effective for increasing deception detection but did serve to increase emotion recognition. Since Tolman's efforts to establish a code for psychologists, the American Psychological Association's (APA) ethics code has been maintained and revised for over six decades. One of APA's five core principles is honesty and integrity. Recent research has found that therapists lie to patients. The current project explored therapists' and non-therapists' beliefs about the ethics of therapist deception. We recruited 245 students and 38 therapists who read and rated vignettes of therapists lying or being honest. Overall, participants judged therapist deception as unacceptable and unethical. The results of therapist honesty perceived as most ethical and acceptable align with APA's value of honesty and integrity for the profession. Given findings from previous research suggesting the use of deception by psychotherapists, psychologists' ethics code would benefit by addressing honesty and integrity in more detail within the context of psychotherapy. This study examines whether the admiration of celebrities is the same or different from admiration of other persons. The Multidimensional Admiration Scale, Rubin's Liking Scale, and the Celebrity Attitude Scale were administered to 190 participants from four American universities. Participants were randomly assigned to fill out either the "most admired person" version or the "favorite celebrity" version (n = 96) of the three scales. We hypothesized that the Multidimensional Admiration Scale is a valid measure of admiration for individuals who are familiar with the morality of the target person, but is invalid for measuring admiration for celebrities. Arguably, this is partly because celebrities are admired mostly for their ability to entertain, and not their morality, which is often unknown or little is known to their fans. The results generally confirmed our hypotheses. The Multidimensional Admiration Scale was not intended as a measure of admiration for celebrities and is not recommended to be used for that purpose. Deception in therapy has been documented anecdotally through various narratives of therapists. The investigation of its occurrence within therapy has largely been overlooked. We explored the reported frequency of deception within psychotherapy, the types of deception used within therapy, the likelihood of people lying to a therapist compared to other groups of people, and client perceptions of the types of deception that therapists use. Ninety‐one participants were provided with a series of deception examples, asked questions about the use of these types of deception within therapy, and asked generally about their use of deception in therapy. We found that a majority of the participants had been deceptive in therapy, and a majority were willing to be deceptive in future therapeutic contexts. Participants were more likely to use white lies than other forms of deception in therapy. Lastly, participants were less likely to lie to therapists compared to strangers and acquaintances. This study examined nursing students' beliefs about indicators of deception and their attitudes toward patient deception. Fifty-eight participants from various nursing programs at a southwestern university completed a Detection of Deception Questionnaire and Attitudes Toward Patient Deception Scale. Findings indicated that nursing students have a number of inaccurate beliefs about deception and possess a number of negative attitudes toward patients who lie. Objective: To explore public perceptions of healthcare providers' responsibilities in recognizing, screening, discussing, and making referrals for postpartum depression (PPD)., Study Design: A total of 87 college students completed a questionnaire asking various questions related to perceptions of healthcare providers and PPD., Results: Participants perceived physicians and obstetricians/gynecologists as having more responsibility for recognizing and screening for PPD as compared to pediatricians and nurses. Participants also believed that physicians are deemed as most responsible for discussing symptoms of PPD and for making mental health referrals for PPD as compared to OB/GYNs, pediatricians, and nurses., Conclusion: Public perceptions of healthcare providers' responsibilities with PPD offer additional information helpful for the efforts in identifying and treating PPD. Understanding which healthcare provider patients may look to for assistance with PPD allows practitioners to consolidate resources and play a more active role in working with PPD.
