The UK has released a new Strategic Defense Review espousing a minimum deterrent and supporting further significant reductions in its weapons program. The review, Labor's first comprehensive evaluation of the country's defense requirements through the year 2015, calls for the maintenance of four Trident ballistic missile submarines and a nuclear stockpile of less than 200 operationally available nuclear warheads. It also concluded that the 58 Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missiles proposed by the Labor government are enough for the country's nuclear deterrence needs.
