Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is considered to be one of the socially valued practices whose conceptual and methodological grounds can be articulated when seen in the light of its discursive representation. Characterization and evaluation of this area in applied psychology proceeds through analysis of expert standpoints and views rendered in secondary sources where they express the conformity level of the discourse in question to academic standards existent in psychology as a theory. Special attention is given to the propositional expression of the ideas defining NLP studies as well as to the exposure of presuppositional attitudes of the NLP expert whose textbook is under discussion in the article. The logical correctness and validity of those presuppositions are analyzed in relation to their adequate representation of scientific or mass worldview. After having exposed the author’s intentions one can state the pragmatic strategy and ideology pursued by the NLP expert in the textbook alongside with the identity of NLP as a discursive and social practice, its position among other discursive practices. The results obtained after the analysis of a particular piece of NLP discourse are congruent with the current trends typical of postmodernist consumerist society. Characteristic postmodernist ways to organize verbal interaction – in particular, forms of discourse imitation, its variation and hybridization – are found in the examples provided. A practical workbook on NLP in English was taken as a source for evidence. Critical discourse-analysis (CDA) served as the guiding approach to the problem, which was realized at some points of the study as contextual analysis, definitive analysis, interpretation method, statistical procedures altogether with quantitative estimation.

The article is devoted to the problem of social constructionism of modern discourses, which is manifested in their ability to form the opinion of target groups and create algorithms of social actions. The existing approaches to the understanding of social constructionism, indicating the possibility of linguistic interpretation and modelling technologies for creating discursive models and their inclusion in the activities of social groups, one of which is the corporation, are considered. The novelty of the study is seen in the fact that for the first time the concept of “discursive technology” is considered as an object of study in linguistics, characterizing social constructionism. A typology of discursive technologies of construction, including technologies of text construction, text development and its implementation in professional practices of corporates is proposed. The author uses the method of complex pragmastylistic analysis of texts in corporate discourse and reconstructs the discursive technologies of text construction and the formation of communicative skills of staff.

Drawing on the discursive practice turn in social theory, we examine the career journeys of skilled West African migrants based in Britain. While many, especially those from developing countries, may end up in elementary occupations, accounts of their progression into professional occupations remain elusive. Here, we unpack specific transient moments of their career journeys through the lens of 'microstoria': the creation and sharing of contemporaneous storylines. These reveal that the 'way-finding' practices of skilled migrants into the professions are characterized by four distinct but durationally indivisible transitional phases – which we call 'Johnny just come', toe-holding, enrichment-in-practice, and the puissance-lap. Our study provides insights into the career experiences of skilled migrants, elucidating how they make sense of their careers in narrative terms in accessing professional occupations and progressing within these. In Polish social sciences, after 1989, the interest in ideology has been gradually replaced with research on discursive forms of power. The reception of Foucauldian governmentality studies has resulted in a shift from the Weberian concept of power to understanding power in terms of a practical technology of governing people through symbolic forces of discourse. However, after the 2015 victory of right-wing parties in presidential and parliamentary elections in Poland and the emergence of the second illiberal democracy in the European Union, we witness a revival of the question of ideology as a material-practical tool for shaping people's sentiments. In recent years, the assessment of the Polish systemic transition which started thirty years ago has been the subject of heated ideological debates. The Polish transformation has been retold and its leadership and outcomes re-evaluated from different standpoints. The comparative analysis of public statements that give contradictory assessments of the Polish transition presented in this article examines the relationship between discursive and ideological practices, and the possible linkages between post-Foucauldian analysis and the critique of ideology. The daybook manuscripts are miscellanies in that they gather together a range of different forms of text onto a single manuscript carrier. This article focuses on passages of rhymed text, analyzing in particular the forms, patterns, and functions of the rhymes. On this basis, I provide a number of preliminary observations on the use and context of the daybook manuscripts. The article focuses on the use of rhyme in material from the Kongjiapo 孔家坡 and Shuihudi 睡虎地 daybook manuscripts in particular, while also paying attention to related hemerological, astrological, and divinatory material from Mawangdui 馬王堆 , Fangmatan 放馬灘 , and the Beida 北大 manuscripts among others. These materials have a penchant for using especially Yang -group 陽部 rhymes marking the (auspicious or otherwise) results of actions and divinations, in this regard they can be further compared to genres such as prayers and philosophical sayings for instance, raising the possibility of a shared discursive practice. 摘要: 《日書》作為雜抄彙集了不同類型的文本段落。本文從《日書》韻文段落入手，探討押韻在《日書》裏的類型、規律和功能。在此基礎上對《日書》的使用與閱讀習慣提出幾個初步想法。本文主要討論孔家坡和睡虎地《日書》，以及馬王堆、放馬灘、北大簡等日書、天文、卜筮等類文獻的用韻現象。這些文獻多使用陽部韻形成韻文, 恰好與祝文、哲学類話語等其他文獻一樣使用這類韻文討論吉凶問題。本文進而試圖闡發《日書》類文獻是否與不同類型文獻有所關聯，參與一個共同的話語 實踐。 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Place identity studies have attracted considerable interest in South Africa because of its history of separate racial development. However, there is a paucity of studies that have reviewed such studies in the country. This article, therefore, aims to present a selective review of place identity studies in post-apartheid South Africa. A literature search was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. Studies published in English between 1994 and 2020, relating to changing place identities as a result of apartheid in South Africa, were included in our search. The search yielded studies from which four key themes were identified – these being identity and belonging, social identity and discursive practice, cultural symbolism and group identity, and social inclusion and exclusion. These themes attest to the social construction of place identity, with people forming cognitive and affective bonds within groups. In addition, these themes show that mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion are crucial for identity formation in which the self is contrasted with 'the other'. The studies collectively point to the intricacies surrounding attempts at desegregation and building social cohesion in post-apartheid South Africa. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unsafe abortion practices remain the major contributor to maternal death in Uganda, impeding the achievement of universal health coverage and quality of maternal health care. Using an ethnographic design and critical discourse analysis, we explored the operations of power in setting maternal healthcare priorities, as evident at the 2018 Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescents Health Conference. Observational data were collected of the policy-making activities, processes and events and key informant interviews were conducted with 27 participants. We describe how neoliberal and state governance through the structure and organization of policy-making, epistemic governance and universal concepts of 'high-impact' interventions, results-based financing, cost-effectiveness and accountability converge to suppress the articulation of local conditions associated with unsafe and risky abortion. By defining maternity along the continuum of birth and emphasizing birthing women, priority-setting was directed towards interventions promoting women's normative role as mothers while suppressing unmet abortion care needs. Finally, discursive and communicative materials controlled how women of reproductive age in Uganda managed reproduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper focuses on the analysis of ontological, epistemological and pedagogical terms of changes in education, first of all – on the status of an academic subject. From the ontological perspective, they are related to transfer from “object” ontology to communication-and-activity one, in terms of epistemological approach – from naturalism to transcendentalism, whereas with regard to pedagogical perspective – from autocratic-disciplinary organization of the academic process to a student-oriented pattern. The first part of the article describes academic subject’s functions in the process of educational reproduction. An academic subject is interpreted not so much from the perspective of the knowledge it contains, but as a complex linguistic code which organizes and regulates educational interaction. Its basics and structure, a mechanism of constituting educational reality are described, as well as the design specifics that hamper changes in education. The authors dwell on the distinction between an academic and scholarly subject. Part two of the article contains criticism of an academic subject practice in the university education. The central event here is attributed to differentiation and diversification of the form of academic subject, disintegration of its integrity into local autonomous linguistic fields. The conclusion formulates the idea how to overcome an academic subject crisis, which heart is discursive transformation of its representation practice. Based on Gilles Deleuze’s ideas, the authors consider the transformation of discursive practices in which an academic subject is embodied to be the condition for education change.

This article critically engages with the predominant understandings of repetitive bodily practices within a dementia context. Rather than interpreting such practices as pathological and abnormal, I instead approach them through an ethnographic mapping, paying particular attention to the affective dynamics of repetition. Critically developing Fernand Deligny’s insights and methods of tracing and mapping bodily movements in dialogue with Tim Ingold’s notion of dwelling, I demonstrate affect-underpinned encounters and interactions of repetitive phenomena. I then argue for the extension of recent anthropological discussions about affect, repetition, and subjectivity by suggesting a more productive dialogue among theories of affect, body, atmosphere, cognition, memory, language, and life history.

In the modern political system of Belarus the debates genre has appeared in public life of the country quite recently. The analysis of views, attitudes and beliefs of politicians is not only the special interest of political science but also of speech practice which gives a complex data to identify the image formation features of a politician’s speech. The article presents interdisciplinary approach to the verbal image phenomenon, including political linguistics, linguistics of conflicts, linguistic identity as the methodological basis. The analysis of political concepts, myths, frames of ordinary consciousness that form implicite basis of image-texts helps us to describe tactics and strategies, using by Speaker for impressinf His/Her Audience. The examples of TV debates, candidates’ speeches in other media have been taken from the latest election campaign in Belarus.

The paper is aimed at the analysis of the discursive work on creating the self-credibility in academic communication. The genre of institutional personal page on the University sites is considered. The author describes the most frequent, in this genre, discursive practices of constructing credibility in Russian and Spanish. The method used in the research is critical discourse analysis.

The paper aims at building a chain of semantic relations between the key concepts of the transdisciplinary discourse practices in relation to the procreation effect. To reveal the connections of the problem complex, the author provides a preliminary interpretation of concepts and semantic constructs forming a thematic thesaurus. Its key element is the concept of procreation, the definition of which derives its outline in the ways and rules of discursive practice, facilitating or hindering the impact of procreation on the process of normogenesis in the transdisciplinary perspective. In recent years, various forms of multifaith spaces have been emerging in Germany which include so-called Rooms of Silence in hospitals or educational institutions as well as Gardens of Religions. So far, empirical research on these spaces has focused on their establishment or their functions within the surrounding organisations. In this article we will put a focus on the 'user experience' of multifaith spaces based on an analysis of guestbooks. These books are a unique source of data for a qualitative in-depth analysis as they offer an opportunity for visitors for commentary including religious references and speech acts. Drawing on two case studies from a Room of Silence within a hospital and a Garden of Religions, we investigate how users experience and appropriate multifaith spaces and how guestbooks may become media of (inter-) religious contact. The image of a political leader is considered as a discursive phenomenon, structured by a set of practices. Two practices bring together the images of Stalin and Putin: 1) use of specific nominations of a leader; 2) reproduction of laudatory slogans addressed to a leader. The gatekeeping practices and the content of leaders' images in considered discourses are fundamentally different. The modern Russian media select the most spectacular breaking news with the participation of Putin and construct the star image, well sold to the Russian consumer. Soviet media refuse any sensationalism, covering only official and routine events with the participation of Stalin. So the contradiction is revealed between the ordinary actions of the leader and the endless praise for Stalin as a deified father. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Computer systems for medical diagnosis based on machine learning are not mere science fiction. Despite undisputed potential benefits, such systems may also raise problems. Two (interconnected) issues are particularly significant from an ethical point of view: The first issue is that epistemic opacity is at odds with a common desire for understanding and potentially undermines information rights. The second (related) issue concerns the assignment of responsibility in cases of failure. The core of the two issues seems to be that understanding and responsibility are concepts that are intrinsically tied to the discursive practice of giving and asking for reasons. The challenge is to find ways to make the outcomes of machine learning algorithms compatible with our discursive practice. This comes down to the claim that we should try to integrate discursive elements into machine learning algorithms. Under the title of "explainable AI" initiatives heading in this direction are already under way. Extensive research in this field is needed for finding adequate solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates a collective of websleuths called the Reddit Bureau of Investigation (RBI) that contains over 70,000 members. Websleuthing, or the investigative practices undertaken online by individuals who are not professional security providers, is an increasing trend. While conducting investigations on Reddit constitutes somewhat of a transgressive practice, the online platform's history is intimately linked with websleuthing since the manhunt that followed the 2013 Boston attacks which received much criticism from its community. Thus, we seek to understand how the RBI organizes its investigative activities against an anti-vigilante backdrop. Drawing from organizational discourse theory, we analyze the discursive practices developed by RBI members to define and enforce the collective's mission and participatory guidelines. Specifically, we focus on the figures (memes, metaphors, rules, affects, etc.) that RBI members invoke in interaction and on the role of Reddit's affordances in the materialization of these discursive entities. Our analysis is threefold. First, we underline how figures associated with retributive vigilantism are invoked by moderators and their propension to circumscribe what (not) to do within the subreddit. Then, we analyze a series of controversial posts to identify the recurring discursive practices developed by users when asking the RBI for assistance. Finally, we explore the ambivalent rapport that RBI members maintain with the police. Overall, our analysis shows that members must overtly recognize police authority over criminal matters yet invoke the institution's limitations to justify their involvement in the RBI, all the while rejecting any association with retributive vigilantism. The present article investigates the discursive encounter of the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education against the outbreak of Coronavirus and compares this ministry’s discursive strategies with those of other countries in dealing with the virus. To achieve this, all the news articles published in the "Coronavirus News" section in the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education website since the outbreak of the Virus in Iran from February 20, 2020, to November 20, 2020, which amounts to more than 1700 cases, have been analyzed to determine the ideologically-loaded news headlines. All the news headlines with the ideological concepts, which constitute a total number of 75 news articles, were coded based on Strauss and Corbin’s (1994) Grounded theory. The results implied that with the Coronavirus peak in the country in the four months leading up to November, the use of religious-revolutionary concepts by the Iran Ministry of Health and Medical Education had increased significantly. Based on Fairclough’s model of critical discourse analysis (1989), it is revealed that the usage of religiousrevolutionary discourse by Iranian ministry and recalling the Iran-Iraq war bears the “experiential value” applied in the ideological use of slogans at the "text" level. Recalling the successful narratives of the war discourse can help to gain the support of a nation in defeating the epidemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
