Abstract

There are well-known relationships between compressed sensing and the geometry of the finite-dimensional $\ell_p$ spaces. A result of Kashin and Temlyakov can be described as a characterization of the stability of the recovery of sparse vectors via $\ell_1$-minimization in terms of the Gelfand widths of certain identity mappings between finite-dimensional $\ell_1$ and $\ell_2$ spaces, whereas a more recent result of Foucart, Pajor, Rauhut and Ullrich proves an analogous relationship even for $\ell_p$ spaces with $p < 1$. In this paper we prove what we call matrix or noncommutative versions of these results: we characterize the stability of low-rank matrix recovery via Schatten $p$-(quasi-)norm minimization in terms of the Gelfand widths of certain identity mappings between finite-dimensional Schatten $p$-spaces., Comment: 16 pages

Abstract

The notions of $p$-convexity and $q$-concavity are mostly known because of their importance as a tool in the study of isomorphic properties of Banach lattices, but they also play a role in several results involving linear maps between Banach spaces and Banach lattices. In this paper we introduce Lipschitz versions of these concepts, dealing with maps between metric spaces and Banach lattices, and start by proving nonlinear versions of two well-known factorization theorems through $L_p$ spaces due to Maurey/Nikishin and Krivine. We also show that a Lipschitz map from a metric space into a Banach lattice is Lipschitz $p$-convex if and only if its linearization is $p$-convex. Furthermore, we elucidate why there is such a close relationship between the linear and nonlinear concepts by proving characterizations of Lipschitz $p$-convex and Lipschitz $q$-concave maps in terms of factorizations through $p$-convex and $q$-concave Banach lattices, respectively, in the spirit of the work of Raynaud and Tradacete., Comment: 25 pages

Abstract

Background: This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of high-sensitivity troponin using point-of-care testing (POCT) devices compared with main laboratory measurements for ruling out non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) in emergency department (ED) patients presenting with non-traumatic chest pain. Methods: This multicenter, observational, prospective, non-interventional study was conducted in two Spanish hospitals from 1 June to 31 December 2023 and included adult patients presenting with non-traumatic chest pain admitted to the ED. High-sensitivity troponin levels were measured using both the Siemens Atellica® VTLi POCT device and main laboratory testing, with data collected on analytical results and measurement times. Results: Of the 201 patients who met the inclusion criteria, a significant correlation was observed between the POCT and laboratory assays. The area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC curve was consistently greater than 0.9, indicating a high diagnostic accuracy for ruling out NSTEMI. In addition, measurement times were significantly reduced using POCT compared to the core laboratory. Conclusion: These results suggest that high-sensitivity troponin POCT devices offer comparable diagnostic performance to traditional laboratory methods for the diagnosis of NSTEMI in the emergency department, potentially speeding up clinical decisions and optimizing resource utilization. Abstract

Background: Myopia prevalence has been increasing in the last decades, and its pathological consequences, including myopic maculopathy and high myopia-associated optic neuropathy, are now one of the most common causes of visual impairment. It is estimated that by 2050, more than 50% of Europeans and Americans will be myopes, which is alarming due to the high morbidity of myopes over − 6.00D. Once myopia has appeared, there are different options with scientific evidence to try to slow the axial length growth. Ophthalmic lenses are the less invasive treatment to control myopia, and there is evidence about the efficacy of different designs, mainly in the Asiatic population. However, new designs have been launched, and it is not known if efficacy is the same between Asiatic and European subjects. Thus, we have set up a randomized, controlled, double-blind, and multicenter trial to investigate the efficacy of a new design of ophthalmic lenses for myopia control in European children. Methods: A 2-year prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled, and double-blind clinical trial is used to investigate the efficacy of a new design of ophthalmic lenses to slow the progression of myopia. Three hundred children aged from 6 to 13 years old will be recruited and randomly assigned to a study or control group. The study group will be composed of 150 children wearing MyoCare while the control group will be composed of 150 children wearing Clearview. The inclusion criteria will be myopia with a spherical equivalent between − 0.75D and − 5.00D, astigmatism < 1.50D, and anisometropia < 1.00D and having a historical evolution of at least − 0.50 The primary outcome is to compare the mean annual progression of the spherical equivalent between both groups. The secondary outcomes are axial length, choroidal thickness, phorias, and accommodative status of both groups. Discussion: This study will be the first randomized and controlled clinical trial in European children with spectacle lenses based on simultaneous competing defocus. The results will shed light on the clinical evidence of spectacle lenses relying on this new design for the management of myopia with results of efficacy in the non-Asiatic population. Abstract

In recent years, due to a better understanding of caries pathology and advances in dental materials, the use of non-invasive and minimally invasive techniques that delay or avoid the need for traditional restorations has gained importance. Objective: To present an update of concepts of minimally invasive dentistry in the treatment of dental caries. Methodology: The present investigation had an approach based on a literary review, allowing the comparison of studies by different authors on minimally invasive dentistry. Conclusion: Currently, minimally invasive dentistry has become the most common philosophy of dental treatment. The possibility of its inclusion is due in large part to the advent of new dental materials that adhere to the dental structure, more conservative methods for a healthy dental structure, achieving a treatment with a less invasive surgical approach and minimal removal of healthy tissue. En los últimos años, debido a una mejor comprensión de la patología de la caries y los avances en los materiales dentales, ha cobrado importancia el uso de técnicas no invasivas y mínimamente invasivas que retrasan o evitan la necesidad de restauraciones tradicionales. Objetivo: Presentar una actualización de conceptos de odontología mínimamente invasiva en el tratamiento de la caries dental. Metodología: La presente investigación tuvo un enfoque basado en la revisión literaria permitiendo comparar estudios de diferentes autores sobre odontología mínimamente invasiva. Conclusión: Actualmente, la odontología mínimamente invasiva se ha transformado en la filosofía más común de tratamiento dental. La posibilidad de su inclusión se debe en gran parte al advenimiento de nuevos materiales dentales que se adhieren a la estructura dental, métodos más conservadores para una estructura dental sana, logrando un tratamiento con un enfoque quirúrgico menos invasivo y supresión mínima de tejido sano. Nos últimos anos, devido ao melhor entendimento da patologia da cárie e avanços nos materiais odontológicos, o uso de técnicas não invasivas e minimamente invasivas que atrasam ou evitam a necessidade de restaurações tradicionais tem ganhado importância. Objetivo: Apresentar uma atualização dos conceitos da odontologia minimamente invasiva no tratamento da cárie dentária. Metodologia: A presente investigação teve uma abordagem baseada em uma revisão literária, permitindo a comparação de estudos de diferentes autores sobre odontologia minimamente invasiva. Conclusão: Atualmente, a odontologia minimamente invasiva tornou-se a filosofia mais comum de tratamento odontológico. A possibilidade da sua inclusão deve-se em grande parte ao advento de novos materiais dentários que aderem à estrutura dentária, métodos mais conservadores para uma estrutura dentária saudável, conseguindo um tratamento com abordagem cirúrgica menos invasiva e remoção mínima de tecido saudável.
